“…As Pope Benedict XVI argues, it imposes unjust limitations on the freedom of religious communities to act in accordance with their beliefs and ultimately results in a less free society.”

With all due respect, Benedict XVI is wrong, by misinterpreting scripture (like with Galileo), moral theology by dismissing the over abundance data from science regarding sexual orientation. Benedict XVI is repeating the same mistake regarding sexual orientation as his office did by wrongly condemning Galileo, which Pope John Paul II apologized for nearly 400 years after the fact. So, in truth Benedict XVI is not speaking for the Roman Catholic Church by promulgating is own personal inaccurate thoughts about sexual orientation, which cannot be substantiated by the bible or science. In truth, Benedict XVI is teaching hate harming worldwide children who grow up to be LGBT creating a hostile and violent social environment for these people, as well as for their parents, siblings, families and friends.

The state has the responsibility to protect the civil liberties of all its citizens, whenever any particular religious group beliefs threaten and harm citizens of the state. The Christian religious groups at one time use the bible to condone slavery. Benedict XVI is misusing the authority of his office; in the same way that children were sexual abused. Benedict XVI and his hierarchy have clearly proven to the world that they are unable to protect children entrusted in their care. The state in good conscience must step in to protect children regardless of the objections of Benedict XVI and his hierarchy.
The USA had to do the same regarding Prop 8 in California banning gay marriage. Judge Vaughn Walker, August 4, 2010, ruled in his judgment that “Religious beliefs that gay and lesbian relationships are sinful or inferior to heterosexual relationships harm gays and lesbians.”

Important note: No disrespect meant to Pope Benedict XVI or the hierarchy, the one and only concern is the safety and well-being of children.
