Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

Someday, maybe, there will exist a well-informed, well considered and yet fervent public conviction that the most deadly of all possible sins is the mutilation of a child’s spirit; for such mutilation undercuts the life principle of trust, without which every human act, may it feel ever so good and seem ever so right is prone to perversion by destructive forms of conscientiousness.
Erik Erikson
(Young Man Luther : A Study in Psychoanalysis and History, 1958)

...Exposure to traumatic events in childhood can have dire and long-lasting consequences, not only for traumatized children but for society as well. Green (1985) has suggested that “failure to master the trauma of childhood creates a continual need to repeat and reenact them during adult life...
Kenneth E. Fletcher

Childhood Trauma, the Neurobiology of Adaptation, and "Use-dependent" Development of the Brain: How "States" Become "Traits"
Infant Mental Health Journal, Vol. 16, No. 4, Winter 1995
…Adults interpret the actions, words, and expressions of children through the distorting fitter of their own beliefs. In the lives of most infants and children, these common adult misinterpretations are relatively benign. In many cases, however, these misinterpretations can be destructive. The most dramatic example occurs when the impact of traumatic events on infants and young children is minimized. It is an ultimate irony that at the time when the human is most vulnerable to the effects of trauma— during infancy and childhood— adults generally presume the most resilience...
...Deprivation of critical experiences during development may be the most destructive yet least understood area of child maltreatment. Unlike broken bones, irreversible maldevelopment of brain areas mediating empathy resulting from emotional neglect in infancy and childhood is not readily observable...
...Some of the most powerful clinical examples of this phenomenon are related to lack of attachment experiences early in life. The child who has been emotionally neglected early in life will exhibit profound attachment problems which are extremely insensitive to any replacement experiences later, including therapy. Examples of this include feral children, children in orphanages observed by Spitz and Wolf (1945) and, often, the remorseless, violent child...
...Profound sociocultural and public policy implications arise from understanding the critical role of early experience in determining the functional capacity of the mature adult — and therefore our society. Persistence of the destructive myth that "children are resilientwill prevent millions of children, and our society, from meeting their true potential. Persistence of the pervasive maltreatment of children in the face of decreasing global and national resources will lead, inevitably, to sociocultural devolution.
It need not be so.

War & PTSD in Children: A Review 2010

Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like
little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this
child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever welcomes one such child in
my name welcomes me.
Matthew 18: 3-5

This contrast between the social environments of growing up in Nazi Germany vs Buenos Aires, Argentina is so severe that it not only validates the science on homosexuality which, in good conscience I was morally obligated to come out March 1997 - but it also points out the urgency to protect children from such antigay social environments. With all do respect, do we want our children to end up like the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy?

It tends to be the norm that early childhood traumatic events are minimized as not having any lasting effects on children, because of their very young age. As stated in the above research, this is a gross destructive misconception that adults have of children. It not only threatens the stability of the safety and well-being of children throughout their lifetime, but society as well. We are able to learn how and in what ways this destructive misconception is played out by observing the behavioral reactions of majority of the members of curia and hierarchy regarding the science of homosexuality. The exposure of their antigay obsession is legendary, but it is not until the Vatileaks of 2012 and the arrival of Pope Francis 2013 - that we are able see how destructive these misconceptions are individually and globally.

The Vatileaks of 2012, acted like a ruptured water main that first begins with water leaking out slowly for a time (months, years) before the break occurs and water is bursting out in full force. The Vatileaks ruptured the hermetic seal of the bureaucratic anonymity of the curia, exposing the complexity of the intense infighting involving “cardinals vying for position in the Conclave that will one day elect Benedict’s successor…(http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/04/world/europe/as-vatican-manages-crisis-book-details-infighting.htmland the money and influence of “powerful conservative Catholic groups.” With the arrival of Pope Francis and his reforming the curia - the rupture widen, exposing more than just a multitude of machinations taking place. It revealed more insight into the early childhood psychological developmental years of the curia members involved - casting shadows as far back the late 1800s of both Pope Francis and European members of the curia, including Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

The obsessive dominant force that has been for the past 30 years or more among the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy has been this absolute refusal to dialogue about the science of homosexuality. It is not only the refusal to dialogue - but it is the ruthless tactics employed by the curia and hierarchy to silence and remove anyone (like myself) who openly discusses this science. The knowledge of this science is vital to the safety and well-beings of the lives of millions of people, beginning with very young children. How can these men get away with these atrocities?

Fifty-two crematorium ovens, including these, were used to burn the bodies of up to 6,000 people every 24 hours during the operation of Auschwitz-Birkenau gas chambers.

Chelmno extermination camp did not have direct rail connections. Jews were delivered by train to Koło, then to nearby Powiercie, and in overcrowded lorries to camp. They were forced to abandon their bundles along the way. At the manor house in Chełmno, they were compelled to undress for transport to a bath, unaware that it was the final stage of their lives. They representing the Vatican - the leaders of the Catholic Church - are continuing to foster the ignorance and fears of the societal prejudices against homosexuals that were exploited to woo the conservative votes that ushered Hitler into becoming the dictator of Nazi Germany in March 1933 that led to the deaths of 70 million people by the end of World War II 1945. Even though, Dr. Evelyn Hooker after experiencing the Nazi dehumanization of Jewish people 1937-38 - was triggered by Joe McCarthy dehumanization of homosexuals 1950s that out of empathy led to her ground breaking research proving that homosexuality is not a mental illness in 1957 - dispelling all societal prejudices against homosexuals - this science was arbitrarily ignored, ruthlessly silenced by the members of the curia and hierarchy for the past 60 years. They instead have continued to foster the ignorance and fears of the societal prejudices against homosexuals that has been used as a political wedge the ushered into elected office promoters of globalization based on the “trickle-down theory” known as Reaganomics that led to the greatest inequality in human history “where 1% of humanity controls as much wealth as the bottom 99%.” How can these men get away with these atrocities?

We can hardly shake a finger at the leaders of Globalization who ignore the science of climate change and are completely indifferent to the human lives they are destroying. We set a very bad example to be followed, except for Pope Francis. From the start of his papacy March 2013 - he uttered the now famous healing statement about a gay priest, but being inclusive of all gay people “Who am I to judge?” Pope Francis strongly encouraged the importance of dialogue - including of being more welcoming of gay people October 2014. However, the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy have proven not to be supportive of Pope Francis's inclusiveness of gay people. This baseless attempt to remove me from the priesthood is cowardly display of the curia and hierarchy not to have to face the truth about the science and religion regarding homosexuality. It is an extraordinary effort not to have to face the truth about themselves - their sexual orientation. However, their public statements and actions, including their silence - speak the truth about who they are and the corruption they continue fostering. It is the manure that everyone ignores at the great cost of human lives. It is the breach that Pope Benedict XVI warns us all to avoid.

Though some of the following historical reports refer to Cardinal Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) as the one who was solely responsible for orchestrating these obsessive antigay initiatives. However, since his retirement February 2013, the arrival of Pope Francis and the fierce resistance Francis has encountered in reforming the curia, especially the Vatican Bank - there is substantial reasoning indicating the real possibility that Benedict XVI was exploited, if not greatly exploited. It appears that for decades - the curia had been acting independently and at times secretly, and in direct opposition to the pope’s directives. A prime example of this is was in regards to Cardinal Burke permanently removing Boeselager from his position, as the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta and indicating that it was Pope Francis’s wish that he resign. Burke had falsified a papal decision of Pope Francis, a direct order that no one was to be fired that problematic issues should be resolved through dialogue and no one was to be fired. Burke had lied. Further investigation of this whole affair firing Boeselager - it was revealed that it was all a trumped situation over “condoms” instigated by an identified rich and powerful ultra-conservative third party ("Lepanto Institute for the restoration of all things in Christ") and its designated target was to sabotage Pope Francis’s efforts reforming the Vatican bank. When Pope Francis intervened and foiled their plans the very next morning “inflammatory posters” Francis appeared in Rome.

Why Is Someone Attacking Pope Francis With Nasty Posters?
February 6, 2017
ROME — Something strange is happening in Vatican City.
Over the weekend, dozens of inflammatory posters showing a dour-faced Pope Francis were plastered in central Rome. Under the picture of the frowning Francis, written in Roman dialect, was what seemed like a not-so-veiled warning…

The Pope faces his adversaries

…Within the Order of Malta, the attacks against von Boeselager, who was accused of having allowed the distribution of condoms by the Order in Burma in 2005, was a moral issue. The German explained to the grand master that the matter had been settled and refused to resign. Supported, at least in silence, by Cardinal Burke, Matthew Festing insisted that it was "the will of the Holy See.”…
..Currently, the most severe attacks against the pope are coming from the United States. At the Order of Malta, the case of the Burmese condoms was put forward by the "Lepanto Institute for the restoration of all things in Christ". This ultraconservative organization specialized in the denunciation of "gays” entering the Church and in attacks on the major development associations that question unfettered economic liberalism…

Knights of Malta chief says it was Burke who asked official to resign

Therefore, in the following historical list below though Ratzinger’s name appears often, as the one and only person solely orchestrating the obsessive antigay initiatives - there is good reason to question whether or not it is true. I greatly suspect that it was not true of Benedict XVI. For me, I found such a vast disconnect between Benedict’s writings and this pervasive ruthless antigay obsession that never had made sense. It always seemed that he was a fall guy, a scapegoat. The situation is far more complex than I originally thought before the arrival of Pope Francis. In so many ways, Pope Francis - seems like a fish out of water - living at the Vatican, which is a good thing. His presence alone continues to expose chasms of inconsistencies and corruption.

Internalized Homophobia
Photo

This is because the homophobic (an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people) culture that has dominated the curia for decades that has been overwhelmingly documented globally by their aggressive public actions, and statements suppressing the science on homosexuality for the pass 60 years - appears to be a completely foreign concept to Pope Francis, by his public welcoming treatment of gay people. This is because Pope Francis does not exhibit any behavioral symptoms of being relentlessly consumed by the entrapments of internalized homophobia that has engulfed the curia. The difference between homophobia and internalized homophobia is that “Homophobia is fear of, or hostility towards, homosexuality and internalized homophobia is the presence of these feelings within oneself.” Internalized homophobia refers “to the internalization of societal antigay attitudes in lesbians and gay men…Meyer and Dean (1998) defined internalized homophobia as “the gay person’s direction of negative social attitudes toward the self, leading to a devaluation of the self and resultant internal conflicts and poor self-regard.

Prejudice, Social Stress, and Mental Health in Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Populations: Conceptual Issues and Research Evidence
Psychol Bull. 2003 September ; 129(5): 674–697.
Ilan H. Meyer - Columbia University
Internalized homophobia
—In the most proximal position along the continuum from the environment to the self, internalized homophobia represents a form of stress that is internal and insidious. In the absence of overt negative events, and even if one’s minority status is successfully concealed, lesbians and gay men may be harmed by directing negative social values toward the self. Thoits (1985, p. 222) described such a process of self-stigmatization, explaining that “role-taking abilities enable individuals to view themselves from the imagined perspective of others. One can anticipate and respond in advance to others’ reactions regarding a contemplated course of action.”
Clinicians use the term internalized homophobia to refer to the internalization of societal antigay attitudes in lesbians and gay men (e.g., Malyon, 1981–1982). Meyer and Dean (1998) defined internalized homophobia as “the gay person’s direction of negative social attitudes toward the self, leading to a devaluation of the self and resultant internal conflicts and poor self-regard” (p. 161). After they accept their stigmatized sexual orientation, LGB people begin a process of coming out. Optimally, through this process they come to terms with their homosexuality and develop a healthy identity that incorporates their sexuality (Cass, 1979, 1984;Coleman, 1981–1982;Troiden, 1989). Internalized homophobia signifies the failure of the coming out process to ward off stigma and thoroughly overcome negative self-perceptions and attitudes (Morris et al., 2001). Although it is most acute early in the coming out process, it is unlikely that internalized homophobia completely abates even when the person has accepted his or her homosexuality. Because of the strength of early socialization experiences, and because of continued exposure to antigay attitudes, internalized homophobia remains an important factor in the gay person’s psychological adjustment throughout life. Gay people maintain varying degrees of residual antigay attitudes that are integrated into their self- perception that can lead to mental health problems (Cabaj, 1988;Hetrick & Martin, 1984;Malyon, 1981–1982;Nungesser, 1983). Gonsiorek (1988) called such residual internalized homophobia “covert,” and said, “Covert forms of internalized homophobia are the most common. Affected individuals appear to accept themselves, yet sabotage their own efforts in a variety of ways” (p. 117)…
Read more:

Believe it or not internalized homophobia is the key source of all the corruption streaming through the curia and it has been imploding that if a corrective action is not taken “the moral edifice of the church is likely to FALL LIKE A HOUSE OF CARDS (Pope Francis).” It is not a matter of belief that internalized homophobia will collapse the moral edifice - it is a matter of facts. Facts that are found only through the ongoing dialogue between science and religion on homosexuality. Without the incorporation of the science of homosexuality the moral edifice has been a house of cards, because it was not built on truth and therefore it was not built on love. It was built on the internalized homophobia of self-hate that is fueled by the ignorance of societal antigay prejudices that were exposed to children in their early childhood years growing up gay or bisexual. It was this traumatic exposure that attacks the very core of the child’s spirit. It made it traumatically clear to the child, who at that age is just learning to venture outside himself to connect to another - to feel one with another - being loved and by loving another. It is the foundation for all future relationships and the development of empathy

For a child, at the young age of 4 or 5 years old to be told his way of loving is wrong, at a time when a child is most vulnerable, depending in the way and intensity this is conveyed to the child, seriously damages all future relationships for the child. It is a traumatizing situation that does not happen just once, but is continuous. The child no longer will trust his understanding of love - he begins to believe that his way of loving is evil, because he is internalizing the ignorance of societal antigay attitudes. The child out of fear of being abandoned by his parents will believe anything his parents imparts to him and will believe it has if it comes from God.  In brief, such traumatizing events that a child experiences at such a young age, because of the human built-in safety mechanisms to protect the child from being endlessly overwhelmed - the traumatizing event will pass into the unconscious and the child will not remember the traumatizing event. But the traumatizing emotion connected to the event, though separated from the event remains active and disruptive throughout the child's life - until the two, the event and emotion, are reconnected and understood as an adult. This helps to explained why some adults who instantly react with an emotional outburst of hysteria at the mere mentioning of the topic of homosexuality, without being able to offer any rational explanation for their outburst and their refusal to further discuss anything on the subject i.e. gay marriage or being more welcoming to gay people. This behavioral reaction is a red flag that there is some psychological problems. Though they will be adamant that homosexuality is wrong and evil, because they feel it is an "innate" feeling they have about it.  However, whether or not it is or is not an "innate" feeling about homosexuality - it still has to pass the test of an ongoing dialogue between science and religion. Hitler too had an "innate" feeling
about the irrational concept of the German people being descendants of the mythical Aryan race, as the superior race, the Master Race. Including that the rest of humanity are various forms of subhumans - who are not deserving of the human rights shared by the superior race. Hitler's "innate" feeling completely bypassed any dialogue between science and religion that led to the deaths of 70 million people by the end of World War II 1945. Pope Benedict's encyclical Caritas in Veritate” gives a clear warning of what happens whenever there is a breach in the dialogue between science and religion - "Any breach in this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human
development..."

Racial policy of Nazi Germany
The racial policy of Nazi Germany included policies and laws implemented in Nazi Germany (1933–45) based on a specific racist doctrine asserting the superiority of the Aryan race, which claimed scientific legitimacy. This was combined with a eugenics programme that aimed for racial hygiene by compulsory sterilization and extermination of the Untermenschen ("sub-humans"), which eventually culminated in the Holocaust. Nazi policies labeled Jews, Romani people, Slavs (Poles, Serbs etc.) and persons of color as inferior non-Aryan subhumans in a racial hierarchy that placed the Herrenvolk ("master race") of the Volksgemeinschaft ("people's community") at the top. Jews were at the bottom of the hierarchy, considered inhuman and thus unworthy of life…

In the case of the majority of the members of curia and hierarchy - their immediate harsh negative reaction at the mere mention of homosexuality, as documented endlessly in the past several decades, including their ruthless suppression of the science of homosexuality for the past 60 years - is a more than likely an indication of their lifetime struggles with their internalized homophobia. More will be explained on this topic, further below regarding the interconnected biological and psychological components of sexual orientation.

What is important to remember is that societal antigay attitudes are not based on any dialogue between science and religion - they are not based in truth and therefore they are not about love. Societal antigay attitudes have twisted around the meaning of love to mean the opposite which is HATE. This is one reason we do not give in to societal antigay hysteria - instead we are to teach people the truth. If the hysteria of societal antigay attitudes are left unchallenged they can be exploited - as they were in the 1930s to usher Hitler into becoming the dictator of Nazi Germany. And again as they were, in the US in the 1980s that help to usher in globalization based on the "trickle-down theory" known as  Reaganomics that has led to the greatest inequality in human history “where 1% of humanity controls as much wealth as the bottom 99%.”  They have and are being exploited to blackmail and control the members of the curia and hierarchy. More will be explained further below - about the exploitation of the internalized homophobia of the curia and hierarchy. We need not allow history to repeat itself, because of our negligence and or lack of courage to face the truth about the science on homosexuality, as well as, the truth about our own individual sexual orientation. WE cannot cure cancer - but we can begin to deactivate this weapon of global human destruction, more powerful than any nuclear weapon that exists now or anytime in the future - by facing up to the truth.  We would be helping to increase the development of human empathy in the world, not creating the unending self-hatred that robs a child of much of his future potential

...Exposure to traumatic events in childhood can have dire and long-lasting consequences, not only for traumatized children but for society as well. Green (1985) has suggested that “failure to master the trauma of childhood creates a continual need to repeat and reenact them during adult life...

Never Ending - Internal & International
C o n f l i c t s

It seems that the countries that have been fiercely antigay are also countries torn with both - never ending internal relationships struggles, fighting among themselves, as well as, ongoing international relationships conflicts, fighting with other countries. It would be an invaluable research study to explore. There is one research study that found that a country's violation of LGBT human rights has a harmful effect on that country’s level of economic development.

Human Rights Watch Country Profiles: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
June 23, 2017
…The countries are all listed below in alphabetical order. This compilation is not comprehensive. If a country is not listed, that means there was no mention of LGBTI/SOGI issues for that country in the 2017 World Report. For example, many of the smaller Caribbean countries and some African countries are omitted due to research limitations, but most have anti-LGBT laws on the books and pervasive homophobia and transphobia. On the other hand, several countries that are not included here made progress in the 2016-2017 period: Belize, Nauru and the Seychelles all decriminalized consensual same-sex conduct, for example. Human Rights Watch has only recently begun investigating the rights of intersex people, so there are few references to intersex rights.
This is a living document which will be updated regularly to reflect new events and further Human Rights Watch research…

ISIS, many of their enemies share a homicidal hatred of gays
 CBS/AP - June 13, 2016
REYHANLI, Turkey - The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has frequently used the Islamic holy month of Ramadan - which is supposed to be for fasting and prayer - as an excuse to step up its slaughter of people it considers heretics.
Last year, ISIS supporters bombed a Shiite mosque in Kuwait and attacked tourists at a Tunisian beach resort, among other atrocities, during the holy month.
Last month, an ISIS leader put out a call for "a month of hurt" in the United States as well as Europe during Ramadan.
On Monday, the group called the Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen "one of the soldiers of the caliphate in America," and Mateen pledged allegiance to the group in a 911 call during the shooting. However there has been no evidence uncovered so far of a direct link between the shooter and the group's Mideast leaders.
Still, the Orlando nightclub massacre would fall in line with ISIS' goals, as the group has a history of targeting gays with brutal public killings…
The most recent, self-reported execution the terrorists undertook happened around May 7 of this year, according to OutRight. A "blindfolded young boy" can be seen in photos getting tossed off a roof and then pelted with stonesafter landing, with an audience of men and children taking part.
ISIS frequently reserves one of its most gruesome methods of killing for suspected gays -- throwing them to their death from building rooftops
…Videos ISIS has released show masked militants dangling men over the precipices of buildings by their legs to drop them head-first or tossing them over the edge. At least 36 men in Syria and Iraq have been killed by ISIS militants on charges of sodomy, according to OutRight Action International, though its Middle East and North Africa coordinator, Hossein Alizadeh, said it was not possible to confirm the sexual orientation of the victims…

ISIS stone 'gay' man to death after he survived being thrown off a roof
May 5, 2015
ISIS militants have released harrowing photographs of a gay man being stoned to death after he survived their first attempt at killing him.
Eleven men, one of them holding an Islamic State flag, held the blindfolded man at the top of a tall building, taking pictures on mobile phones before throwing their victim off the roof.
The killing, which supposedly took place in Raqqua, Syria – although other sources say it happened somewhere in Iraq – was watched by a large crowd.
A picture showing the man half way to earth circulated on Twitter over the weekend, with images of the injured man lying on the ground following soon.
The victim survived the fall but, badly injured and unable to defend himself, was killed by men, some of them armed, from the crowd who were queueing up to throw rocks’, according to the Daily Mail.

ISIS throw 4 more gay men to their deaths
5 October 2015
Executions were carried out in two Iraqi cities over the weekend
Islamic State (ISIS) militants executed four more gay men in Iraq over the weekend.
Two young men were thrown off the roof a building in Mosul under the pretext they were a gay couple.
‘On Sunday afternoon, Daesh called on the people of Mosul to gather in the square of Bab al-Toub in order to witness the execution of the two allegedly men,’ an eyewitness told ARA News.
‘The victims were taken to the top of a building and were brutally thrown off the roof.’
Also on Sunday, the Terror Monitor group tweeted photos of a separate execution of two ‘gay’ men, who were thrown from a building in Ninevah into a pile of cement blocks.
The photos show an imam reading out their sentence and large crowd of spectators:

Islamic State group targets gays with brutal public killings
June 13, 2016
The Associated Press is reproducing an article on IS treatment of gays that initially ran on Dec. 2 and was part of a 2015 AP series of stories, “Inside the Caliphate,” which explored life under Islamic State rule…

In this picture posted on a social media account affiliated with the Islamic State group on June 14, 2015, IS militants stone a man accused of violating the extremists' ban on homosexuality after they threw him from a roof in the city of Homs, Syria. One witness of such a killing in Syria described to The Associated Press how the victim pleaded with militants to shoot him in the head rather than drop him from a nearby four-story building.

Islamic State group publicly killing gays in Syria and Iraq to show its 'ideological purity’
December 2, 2015
REYHANLI, Turkey (AP) — Before a crowd of men on a street in the Syrian city of Palmyra, the masked Islamic State group judge read out the sentence against the two men convicted of homosexuality: They would be thrown to their deaths from the roof of the nearby Wael Hotel.
He asked one of the men if he was satisfied with the sentence. Death, the judge told him, would help cleanse him of his sin.
"I'd prefer it if you shoot me in the head," 32-year-old Hawas Mallah replied helplessly. The second man, 21-year-old Mohammed Salameh, pleaded for a chance to repent, promising never to have sex with a man again, according to a witness among the onlookers that sunny July morning who gave The Associated Press a rare first-hand account.
"Take them and throw them off," the judge ordered. Other masked extremists tied the men's hands behind their backs and blindfolded them. They led them to the roof of the four-story hotel, according to the witness, who spoke in the Turkish city of Reyhanli on condition he be identified only by his first name, Omar, for fear of reprisals.
Notorious for their gruesome methods of killing, the Islamic State group reserves one of its most brutal for suspected homosexuals. Videos it has released show masked militants dangling men over the precipices of buildings by their legs to drop them head-first or tossing them over the edge. At least 36 men in Syria and Iraq have been killed by IS militants on charges of sodomy, according to the New York-based OutRight Action International, though its Middle East and North Africa coordinator, Hossein Alizadeh, said it was not possible to confirm the sexual orientation of the victims.
The fear of a horrific death among gay men under Islamic State rule is further compounded by their isolation in a deeply conservative society that largely shuns them…

Blindfolded, bound and thrown off buildings … inside the ISIS Sharia court’s treatment of homosexuals
2nd December 2015
…“They are violating God’s laws and doing something that is forbidden in Islam, so this is a legitimate punishment,” said Hajji Mohammed, a resident of the
IS-held northern Iraqi city of Mosul. There the group has thrown men suspected of being gay off the Insurance Building, a landmark about 10 stories high.

…By employing the grisly method of execution, the Islamic State group aims to
show to radicals that it is unflinchingly carrying out the most extreme strains in Islam — a sort of “ideological purity” which the group boasts distinguishes it even from other militants. The punishment “will protect the Muslims from treading the same rotten course that the West has chosen to pursue,” IS proclaimed in its online English-language magazine Dabiq…

Isis has killed at least 25 men in Syria suspected of being gay, group claims
Tuesday 5 January 2016
Figures revealed as reports emerged of a teenager in the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor was thrown to his death
At least 25 people have been murdered in Syria by the so-called Islamic State for being gay, a UK-based monitoring group has told the Independent.
Amid reports of a 15-year-old boy being thrown from the rooftop of a high-rise building in the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor - seemingly the latest victim of the Islamist group's brutal crackdown - the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told The Independent that dozens of men had been killed by Isis jihadists.
Six have been stoned to death, three killed from direct shooting to the head and 16 thrown from high-rise buildings. Those that survived the fall, the group added, were then stoned on the streets below by scores of bystanders. Two of those killed were under 18.
It is alleged that the man who raped the 15-year-old, a senior Isis officer called Abu Zaid al-Jazrawi, was spared execution.
Instead, he faced a demotion and was forced to leave Syria and join the fighting fronts in north-western Iraq.
“The horrific execution took place in front of large crowd,” said Sarai al-Din, a local media activist who witnessed the murder, told Syrian news agency ARA.
Speaking to the news agency, civil rights activist Rawd Ahmed, said: “Daesh (another name for Isis) accuses people of being gay only on the basis of some superficial information without any investigation. Although the Islamic law bans homosexuality, the brutal punishment by Daesh has never been witnessed throughout history.”
Footage of terrified men in blindfolds being escorted to the rooftops of high-rise buildings and then being thrown to their death has become commonplace. It has led human rights groups to become increasingly concerned that this extreme violence is inspiring other militias in the war-torn region to attack men they suspect of being gay…

Study: Islamic fundamentalism is not a marginal phenomenon in Europe
January 16, 2015
Last week's attacks in Paris, committed in the name of a god, reopen a badly-healed scar in Europe. The world once again turns towards religious fundamentalism. A new study shows that hostility towards other out-groups is not an isolated phenomenon among Muslims living in Europe; but nor is it a synonym of violence. According to the author of the study, Ruud Koopmans, director of the WZB Berlín Social Science Centre (Germany), "Islam is not the problem”…
…Although violence does not necessarily form part of this ideology, hostility towards other out-groups including homosexuals, Jews, and Westerners (in the case of Muslims) or Muslims (in the case of Christians) is evident. As a whole, Muslims are shown to be more hostile towards the three out-groups mentioned above, with between 25% and 30% rejecting these groups. Christian hostility is not as much as 5%.
However, independently, Christian fundamentalists show greater hostility towards Muslims (more than 50%) and towards Jews (between 30 and 35% of Christian fundamentalists were revealed to be hostile). In the case of Islamic fundamentalistsmore than 70% of followers feel hostility towards homosexuals, Jews and Westerners.
Religious fundamentalism is closely linked to hostility towards other out-groups," says Koopmans. But social and economic levels also have a bearing. Individuals with a high social and economic status are more tolerant and less xenophobic…

The Relationship between LGBT Inclusion and Economic Development: An Analysis of Emerging Economies
November 2014
Executive Summary
This study analyzes the impact of social inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people on economic development in 39 countries. When LGBT people are denied full participation in society because of their identities, their human rights are violated, and those violations of human rights are likely to have a harmful effect on a country’s level of economic development.
Several theoretical frameworks argue that inclusion of LGBT people is linked to a stronger economy. In the human capital approach, inclusion allows LGBT people to achieve their economic potential when they can get education and training that improves their productivity and when they are treated equally in the labor market. The capabilities approach suggests that greater rights and freedoms improve individual well-being by expanding individuals’ capabilities to be and do what they value. The post- materialist demand for human rights theory suggests that greater economic development might make countries more likely to respect the rights of LGBT people, as LGBT people can freely organize and push for legal changes and as public opinion shifts to support greater individual autonomy and minority rights. And the strategic modernization approach posits that countries hoping to present themselves as more visibly “modern” and successful to potential trading partners might be using LGBT rights strategically as a way to promote and expand economic opportunities…

The majority of the members the curia and hierarchy have not directly thrown gay priests or gay people, including gay children off from rooftops but they have done the equivalent by their arbitrary and obsessively ruthless crusade to suppress the emerging science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. And even more frightening is the fact that 1.2 billion baptized Catholics have allowed it to continue for decades. These are all symptoms of structural violence, which is just as deadly as direct violence  - as throwing gay people off from rooftops. The only difference is that with structural violence - “the damage is slower, more subtle, more common, and more difficult to repair.” These forms of structural violence are mostly invisible. They are pervasively deeply rooted in a multitude of social structures i.e. the family unit, classrooms, schools, clubs, sports groups - “marriage, divorce, welfare, and all the laws that govern our society (https://www.enotes.com/homework-help/what-some-examples-social-structures-505739).” These invisible forms of structural violence are normalized by stable institutions i.e. government, US Congress, Vatican, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institutiondescribed in the book - Peace, conflict, and violence: Peace psychology in the 21st century - edited by Daniel Christie.

The Introduction
by Deborah Du Nann Winter and Dana C. Leighton - to
Peace, conflict, and violence: Peace psychology in the 21st century
Direct violence is horrific, but its brutality usually gets our attention: we notice it, and often respond to it. Structural violence, however, is almost always invisible, embedded in ubiquitous social structures, normalized by stable institutions and regular experience. Structural violence occurs whenever people are disadvantaged by political, legal, economic, or cultural traditions. Because they are longstanding, structural inequities usually seem ordinary—the way things are and always have been. But structural violence produces suffering and death as often as direct violence does, though the damage is slower, more subtle, more common, and more difficult to repair. The chapters in this section teach us about some important but invisible forms of structural violence, and alert us to the powerful cultural mechanisms that create and maintain them over generations.
Johan Galtung originally framed the term “structural violence” to mean any constraint on human potential caused by economic and political structures (1969). Unequal access to resources, to political power, to education, to health care, or to legal standing, are forms of structural violence. When inner-city children have inadequate schools while others do not, when gays and lesbians are fired for their sexual orientation, when laborers toil in inhumane conditions, when people of color endure environmental toxins in their neighborhoods, structural violence exists. Unfortunately, even those who are victims of structural violence often do not see the systematic ways in which their plight is choreographed by unequal and unfair distribution of society’s resources. Such is the insidiousness of structural violence…
Recognizing the operation of structural violence forces us to ask questions about how and why we tolerate it, questions that often have painful answers. The first chapter in this section, “Social Injustice,” by Susan Opotow, argues that our normal perceptual/cognitive processes lead us to care about people inside our scope of justice, but rarely care about those people outside. Injustice that would be instantaneously confronted if it occurred to someone we love or know is barely noticed if it occurs to strangers or those who are invisible or irrelevant to us. We do not seem to be able to open our minds and our hearts to everyone; moral exclusion is a product of our normal cognitive processes. But Opotow argues convincingly that we can reduce its nefarious effects by becoming aware of our distorted perceptions. Inclusionary thinking can be fostered by relationships, communication, and appreciation of diversity.
One outcome of exclusionary thinking is the belief that victims of violence must in some way deserve their plight. But certainly it is easy to see that young children do not deserve to be victims…

Gay People

The majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy have absolutely refused to openly maintained any dialogue between the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality and theology that naturally includes the bible. This is a clear form of structural violence. As a group - they have demonstrated their fierce hostility against such dialogue by their explosive emotional outburst in October 13, 2014 at the release of the Synod on Family - Midterm report that indicated an open discussion on how to be more pastorally welcoming to gay people and their families. So intense was their hostile objection to the idea of welcome gay people that it raged on for a full year and prevented the scheduled continuation of the dialogue on gay people that began in October 2014 from taking place at the second session of the synod on Family October 4-25, 2015. This extraordinary uncontrollable fierce hysterical public display of the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy absolutely refusing to openly dialogue about pastoral care of gay people so closely resembled the irrational behavior of a two year old child throwing a tantrum. The contrast between the treatment of gay people by these members of the curia and hierarchy and the men of the Netherlands “Holding Hands To Show Solidarity With Victims Of Homophobic Attack" April 2017 (article listed above) - is so severe. It immediately begs the question, as to what causes this extreme contrast between these two groups of men regarding gay men - one of indifference and cruelty, - the other of compassion and empathy? Is internalized homophobia the root cause for the absence of empathy among the men of the curia and hierarchy?

Gay Catholics Will Be Silenced During Pope Francis' Philadelphia Visit: Archbishop
June 25, 2015

Conservative dissent is brewing inside the Vatican
September 7, 2015
VATICAN CITY — On a sunny morning earlier this year, a camera crew entered a well-appointed apartment just outside the 9th-century gates of Vatican City. Pristinely dressed in the black robes and scarlet sash of the princes of the Roman Catholic Church, Wisconsin-born Cardinal Raymond Burke sat in his elaborately upholstered armchair and appeared to issue a warning to Pope Francis.
A staunch conservative and Vatican bureaucrat, Burke had been demoted by the pope a few months earlier, but it did not take the fight out of him. Francis had been backing a more inclusive era, giving space to progressive voices on divorced Catholics as well as gays and lesbians. In front of the camera, Burke said he would “resist” liberal changes — and seemed to caution Francis about the limits of his authority. “One must be very attentive regarding the power of the pope,” Burke told the French news crew…
[Burke states] “We have a serious issue right now, a very alarming situation where Catholic priests and bishops are saying and doing things that are against what the church teaches, talking about same-sex unions, about Communion for those who are living in adultery,” the official said. “And yet the pope does nothing to silence them. So the inference is that this is what the pope wants.”…

CNN Exclusive: Pope held private meeting with same-sex couple in U.S.
October 3, 2015
(CNN)The day before Pope Francis met anti-gay county clerk Kim Davis in Washington last week, he held a private meeting with a longtime friend from Argentina who has been in a same-sex relationship for 19 years.
Yayo Grassi, an openly gay manbrought his partner, Iwan Bagus, as well several other friends to the Vatican Embassy on September 23 for a brief visit with the Pope. A video of the meeting shows Grassi and Francis greeting each other with a warm hug.
In an exclusive interview with CNN, Grassi said the visit was arranged personally with the Pope via email in the weeks ahead of Francis' highly anticipated visit to the United States.
"Three weeks before the trip, he called me on the phone and said he would love to give me a hug," Grassi said.
The meeting between the Pope and gay couple adds another intriguing twist to the strange aftermath of Francis' first-ever trip to the United States. Since news broke on Tuesday of Francis' meeting with Davis, conservatives have cheered the seemingly implicit endorsement, while liberals have questioned how much the Pope knew about her case. Davis spent six days in a Kentucky jail last month for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
The two encounters -- one with an openly gay couple and one with a government official who ardently opposes homosexuality -- have left the Vatican scrambling to issue statements that seek to de-politicize the Pope's meetings and agenda…

Pope Francis faces an uphill climb to get the synod he wants
October 3, 2015
…This synod is actually round two of a process that began last October with a first summit on the family. Back then, fierce debate broke out over homosexuality, the pastoral care of divorced Catholics, and what to make of other “irregular” relationships.
The hope had been that the year between the first synod and the second one might allow time to cool those tensions and find common ground, but there’s not a great deal of evidence that things have played out that way.
Instead, there seems to be a mounting tendency on all sides to suspect skullduggery and underhanded tactics.
…If these opening salvos are any indication, the synod may be defined not just by disagreements on substance, but also suspicions of Machiavellian maneuvers along the way. That’s not exactly a prescription for meeting in the middle.
More basically, the emotional intensity of the synod is amped up because of perceptions that the pope’s position is still a work in progress.
Whenever topics such as homosexuality and divorce are on the docket, feelings will run strong. What’s new now is a sense, however exaggerated, that movement might actually be possible. That’s elicited strong passions both from those who see such movement as desirable, and those who view it as alarming…

Secret Letter Allegedly Sent To Pope Francis By Conservative Cardinals Fuels Speculations At Vatican Synod
October 10, 2015
…In the letter, the senior churchmen said that if the reformers succeeded in changing the church’s approach to modern families it could send the Catholic Church down the path of Protestant denominations that abandoned “key elements of Christian belief and practice in the name of pastoral adaptation.”
…The mystery also fueled intrigue about the three-week meeting, called a synod. It also spotlighted increasingly bold efforts by traditionalists to thwart any changes to church doctrine or practices, in particular proposals to allow divorced and remarried Catholics to receive Communion.
…as well as efforts to make the church more open to cohabiting couples and gays and lesbians — has become a focus and flashpoint for the wide-ranging synod of 270 bishops from around the world.
…This fall’s gathering follows a previous synod that Francis convened here last October as part of his effort to foster dialogue within the hierarchy and to discuss possible reforms to pastoral practices (though not necessarily doctrines) that could make the church more welcoming and inclusive.
Yet raising the specter of any change set off alarm bells for conservatives who have been lobbying fiercely, in public and behind the scenes, to ensure that the synod acts to remove any doubts about the possibility of changing church teachings or policies…

Are conservatives at the high-stakes Vatican summit overplaying their hand?
October 16, 2015
VATICAN CITY — Ever since a Vatican summit last year raised the possibility of making the Church more open to those whose family lives may not mirror the Catholic ideal, conservative foes have been in an uproarwaging an intense campaign to block any reforms from being adopted.
Yet as a follow-up meeting this month has progressed, the enthusiasm of the traditionalists could be overwhelming their tactical judgment — annoying and even angering enough of their fellow bishops that they may have weakened what was once considered a strong position…
With all these twists and turns, the saga was quickly becoming as absurd as it was convoluted, and it might have been seen as just another chapter in the legacy of Vatican intrigue that stretches from the era of the Borgia popes to the novels of Dan Brown — except that the plot seemed so backhanded it made the synod look faithless as well as foolish.
“The general opinion I detected among the bishops was a sense of disgust,” Bishop Marcello Semeraro, an Italian who is on the final drafting committee along with Wuerl, told Vatican Insider.
Another synod delegate, Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Australia, called the leaked letter affair a “typically Roman melodrama” that was “not untinged with psychodrama.”
The problem, Coleridge wrote on his blog, is that episodes like this tend to “aggravate the sense that the Synod is not much more than a political caucus, with ideological riptides swirling around us and the odd stinger drifting by.”
Already, he said, the deliberations are struggling to battle against “a fear that can become a kind of paranoia.”…

Pope Francis has a brain tumor? Sharp denials amid synod silly season
October 21, 2015
VATICAN CITY (RNS) The Vatican on Wednesday (Oct. 21) categorically denied a story from an Italian news agency that Pope Francis has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, calling the report “unfounded” and “seriously irresponsible…
The scoop was quickly called into question, in part because the story provided so few details and because the Vatican has been swirling with rumors this month during an intense and contentious debate over church teachings among 270 bishops gathered for a global synod on the family.
The synod has featured unusually open arguments and no small amount of public sniping among churchmen, as well as revelations of a secret letter to the pope and accusations of behind-the-scenes “rigging” and “manipulation.”…

Cardinal Wuerl Calls Out Pope’s Opponents
October 18, 2015
Cardinal Donald Wuerl has flatly denied the allegations by some of his fellow cardinals and bishops that the fathers attending the synod are “somehow” being manipulated by the pope and the synod structure that Francis approved. He wonders whether the underlying reason why they are suggesting or saying such things is because “they just don’t like this pope,” and find the church that he is calling for “somewhat threatening.”
In this interview with America on Oct. 18,  the cardinal archbishop of Washington charged that a number of his brother cardinals and bishops have their own position and think that some questions now on the synod agenda should not even be discussed.  He said some of these people “are speaking, sometimes surreptitiously, sometimes half-way implying, then backing off and then twisting around” and in this way they have "tainted" the synod process in the public eye with their groundless allegations of manipulation, and so cast a cloud over its outcome.
Asked what he would say to those bishops who said and did such things, Wuerl replied:
“There’s not much you can say because if someone isn’t willing to hear you . . . ”…

Vatican Says Rumors About Pope's Health Are Attempt To Undermine Him

October 22, 2015

After repeatedly denying reports that Pope Francis has a benign brain tumor Wednesday, the Vatican is going a step further, calling the rumor"false information" that's meant to destabilize the papacy. The doctor named in the reports also says they're untrue…
From Rome, NPR'S Sylvia Poggioli reports:
The suggestion that the tumor report was part of a plot against Pope Francis was put forth by the official Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano. It wrote, "the timing of the claim reveals there was an intent to manipulate and cause a dust storm of confusion."
"Cardinal Walter Kasper said it was part of an effort to undermine the bishops' assembly…

Cardinal Sarah blocked discussion of gays, says bishop

October 24, 2015

A standard-bearer of progressive thought at the Synod on the Family, Bishop Johan Bonny, admitted last night that he had been prevented from raising the issue of the pastoral care of gay Catholics in the gathering’s group discussions.
Bishop Bonny of Antwerp, who was in a group led by a senior African cardinal, Robert Sarah, said there had been no way of discussing the issue “in a peaceful way.”
Bonny was speaking at a press conference in Rome called by the three Belgian bishops at the synod on Friday night. Clearly alluding to tensions with Cardinal Sarah in the group, he said it was better to talk about the gay issue “in a positive way than in a bad atmosphere.”…

Opposition to Pope Francis Comes Out of the Closet
December 4, 2015
…First up is Cardinal Raymond Burke’s recent op-ed in the National Catholic Register. The flamboyant cardinal uses the old trick of attacking someone close to the pope, rather than the pope directly, in this instance, Father Antonio Spadaro, S.J. Fr. Spadaro had written that the synod opened a door toward the divorced and remarried. +Burke replies: “The fact is that the synod could not open a door which does not exist and cannot exist, namely, a discernment in conscience which contradicts the truth about the supreme sanctity of the Most Holy Eucharist and the indissolubility of the marriage bond.” Who said anything about “contradicting” the truth? The contradiction – and it is only an apparent one to us poor humans who have more theological work to do – is between “the truth” about marriage and the Eucharist and “the truth” about God’s mercy and, relatedly, “the truth” about the practice of our sister Churches of the East. But, Cardinal Burke expects everyone to use his lens, his weighting of the issues, his sense of what is, and is not, possible. Someone needs to tell him that he was not elected pope in 2013…

It was the striking contrast between the Argentinian Pope Francis, his open and friendly attitude towards gay people - respecting them as human beings created by God that exposed how fiercely scornful the European curia and hierarchy (of course not true of all members) are towards gay people. At the time of the release of the Synod on Family: Midterm Report of 2014 - the idea of even welcoming gay people completely shocked the world, however, no where near the degree of the shock it caused to the curia and hierarchy. For those of us observing this historic phenomenon of course were in the state of shock, however, in observing the openly public prolonged blizzard and hysterical emotional outburst of the curia and hierarchy being interviewed by the news media - I began realizing that this was a first, too. The hermetically sealed wall of the curia’s bureaucratic anonymity that they have always preferred to hide behind was gone e.g. Archbishop Hunthausen affair 1980s (https://dspace.library.uu.nl/bitstream/handle/1874/601/full.pdf).

It was like what happened to the movie stars - when the silent movie pictures of the early 1900s switched to talking movie pictures - the movie audiences heard for the first time the movie actors voices, and were shocked. Many of the silent motion picture stars did not make into being successful in the taking motion pictures because of their voices. The 1952 film “Singin' in the Rain” starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds was a depiction of Hollywood during the 1920s about the transition from silent films to “talkies” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singin%27_in_the_Rain).

Deviousness Behind the Curtain - Curtain Pulled-up Reveals Truth

Luke 12:2-3

Cardinal Burke’s statements to the news media were unbelievable, I felt embarrassed for him, because his statements were irrational about gay people. I kept thinking to myself - does Burke realized he is talking to the press. However, many other members of the curia and hierarchy did the same and sounded the same - all lacking coherency or sound facts to support their emotional outburst. In fact, they began to sound the same in lockstep fashion - claiming the bible, natural law, etc. to back their fierce objection to welcoming gay people let alone valuing long term committed gay relationships. However, all their public statements lacked any reference to the science on homosexuality. And according to Pope Benedict XVI without the light of truth obtained through the ongoing dialogue between science and religion - there is no LOVE. Here lies the structural antigay violence being past on generationally that severely harms children for life - some more than others and threatens the safety and well-being of all society. Another, surprising unexpected event happened - it was hearing the more rational support for gay people and their families coming directly from members of the hierarchy though few in number - their rational support for all gay people was exceedingly powerful and healing. We must remember that Christ started with a very small number. It is truth that makes us strong in loving others.

Welcoming homosexual persons
Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community...
...homosexual unions it has to be noted that there are cases in which mutual aid to the point of sacrifice constitutes a precious support in the life of the partners. Furthermore, the Church pays special attention to the children who live with couples of the same sex, emphasizing that the needs and rights of the little ones must always be given priority...

Pope lectures Catholic elders at closing of synod on family
 October 25, 2015
…But there were limits. Bishop Johan Bonny of Antwerp, Belgium, said that when he raised the idea in his working group at the synod that committed same-sex relationships could have spiritual value, “bad feelings came up.”
In the end, he said he was pleased that the synod did not delve deeper into the issue of homosexuality.
“That is a point for next time,” he said. “Better to leave it for later than discuss it in a hot and bad atmosphere.”

Catholicism can and must change, Francis forcefully tells Italian church gathering
November 10, 2015
FLORENCE, ITALY Pope Francis has strongly outlined anew a comprehensive vision for the future of the Catholic church, forcefully telling an emblematic meeting of the entire Italian church community here that our times require a deeply merciful Catholicism that is unafraid of change
Francis said Catholics must realize: "We are not living an era of change but a change of era."
"Before the problems of the church it is not useful to search for solutions in conservatism or fundamentalism in the restoration of obsolete conduct and forms that no longer have the capacity of being significant culturally," the pontiff said at one point during his remarks.
"Christian doctrine is not a closed system incapable of generating questions, doubts, interrogatives -- but is alive, knows being unsettled, enlivened," said the pope. "It has a face that is not rigid, it has a body that moves and grows, it has a soft fleshit is called Jesus Christ."
"The reform of the church then, and the church is semper reformanda  ... does not end in the umpteenth plan to change structures," he continued. "It means instead grafting yourself to and rooting yourself in Christ, leaving yourself to be guided by the Spirit -- so that all will be possible with genius and creativity.”…
"A new humanism in Jesus Christ…”

A Big Heart Open to God: An interview with Pope Francis
September 30, 2013
…“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.
“The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently

Pope Says Church Is ‘Obsessed’ With Gays, Abortion and Birth Control
September 19, 2013
Six months into his papacy, Pope Francis sent shock waves through the Roman Catholic church on Thursday with the publication of his remarks that the church had grown “obsessed” with abortion, gay marriage and contraception, and that he had chosen not to talk about those issues despite recriminations from critics.
His surprising comments came in a lengthy interview in which he criticized the church for putting dogma before love, and for prioritizing moral doctrines over serving the poor and marginalized. He articulated his vision of an inclusive church, a “home for all”…
“We have to find a new balance,” the pope continued, “otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.”…

Pope says Church must end obsession with gays, contraception, abortion
September 19, 2013.
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis said the Catholic Church must shake off an obsession with teachings on abortion, contraception and homosexuality and become more merciful or risk the collapse of its entire moral edifice “like a house of cards”.
In a dramatically blunt interview with an Italian Jesuit journal, Francis said the Church had “locked itself up in small things, in small-minded rules” and should not be so prone to condemn.
Its priests should be more welcoming and not cold, dogmatic bureaucrats. The confessional, he said, “is not a torture chamber but the place in which the Lord’s mercy motivates us to do better.”…

Top Vatican and U.S. church officials back new gay-friendly book
April 9, 2017
Father James Martin's new book, "Building a Bridge," includes several blurbs from top figures in the Catholic Church's hierarchy which is a surprising break from the past. This seems to indicate a sea change during the papacy of Pope Francis.
The Vatican’s point man on family issues and a U.S. cardinal who is close to Pope Francis have both blurbed a new book by a Jesuit priest and popular author that calls on the Catholic Church to be more respectful and compassionate toward gay people.
They called it “brave, prophetic, and inspiring” and a “much-needed book.”
Such positive language from senior church leaders is extraordinary and another sign of how Francis is reorienting the church toward a more pastoral focus.
Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity, by Fr. James Martin of America magazine, does not advocate for any changes in doctrine nor does it touch third-rail topics like same-sex marriage; nor do the churchmen who praise the book, to be published by HarperOne on June 13.
But simply using terms like LGBT to describe people is highly controversial for many in the church who insist that gay people be described as “homosexual” or “same-sex attracted” rather than by words that seem to affirm their orientation.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who was recently chosen by Francis to head the Vatican office on laity, family, and life issues, praises Martin’s writing in his blurb: “A welcome and much-needed book that will help bishops, priests, pastoral associates, and all church leaders more compassionately minister to the LGBT community.
“It will also help LGBT Catholics feel more at home in what is, after all, their church,” said Farrell, the former bishop of Dallas.
“In too many parts of our church LGBT people have been made to feel unwelcome, excluded, and even shamed,” Newark Cardinal Joseph Tobin, who Francis personally picked for the New Jersey archdiocese, adds in a blurb.
“Father Martin’s brave, prophetic, and inspiring new book marks an essential step in inviting church leaders to minister with more compassion, and in reminding LGBT Catholics that they are as much a part of our church as any other Catholic.”
“The Gospel demands that LGBT Catholics must be genuinely loved and treasured in the life of the church. They are not,” writes Bishop Robert McElory of San Diego, also a rising star in the U.S. hierarchy, in another endorsement.
McElroy says Martin “provides us with the language, perspective, and sense of urgency to replace a culture of alienation with a culture of merciful inclusion.”…

Cardinal Sarah should never use the term natural law when referring to gay sexuality as being contrary to the natural law” when he has NOT had any dialogue in science on homosexuality included! What is natural law without science??? Cardinal Sarah is speaking without love and we know what St. Paul says about whatever we do without love - we are nothing but a “ding dong.” Cardinal Sarah please be extremely careful what you say publicly that is not based on truth - truth as Pope Benedict XVI defines it in Caritas in veritate - you are harming children globally - in the same way you were harmed. But at least, it seems you are beginning a dialogue - that is a good thing. WE have nothing unless we all are in dialogue, however, in the meantime let’s not do anything that would harm children for life. Father James Martin states that his book - “Building a Bridge is not a book of moral theology nor a book on the sexual morality of L.G.B.T. people. It is an invitation to dialogue and to prayer, and I’m sure that Cardinal Sarah would agree on the importance of both (https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2017/08/31/cardinal-sarah-offers-critique-lgbt-book-father-james-martin-responds).”

Love Is the Greatest
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
but do not have love,
I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy, and
know all mysteries and
all knowledge; and
if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains,
but do not have love, I am nothing.
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor,
and if I surrender my body to be burned,
but do not have love, it profits me nothing.

Love is patient,
 love is kind and is not jealous;
love does not brag and is not arrogant,
does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own,
is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,
 does not rejoice in unrighteousness,
 but rejoices with the truth;
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things.

Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy,
they will be done away;
if there are tongues, they will cease;
if there is knowledge, it will be done away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.

When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child,
reason like a child; when I became a man,
I did away with childish things.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face;
now I know in part, but then I will know fully
just as I also have been fully known.
But now faith, hope, love, abide these three;
but the greatest of these is
love.
1 Corinthians 13

I do not mean to be rude - no ruder than Jesus tying a rope around someone’s neck and throwing him in the middle of the sea - who dares to harm one of these little ones who believes in him.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus
and said,
“Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
And He called a child to Himself and set him before them,
and said,
“Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and
become like children, you will not enter
the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever then humbles himself
as this child,
he is the greatest in
the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one such child in
My name receives Me; but

whoever causes one of these little ones
who believe in Me
to stumble,
it would be better for him to have
a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and
to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Stumbling Blocks
“Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks!
For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come;
but woe to that man through whom
the stumbling block comes!
Matthew 18:1-7

The same applies to all those involved in this foolish attempt to try to remove me from the priesthood, including those who have been supportive this foolish attempt - who have not studied the science on homosexuality. This is not just about me alone, how many 100s of others priests, sisters, bishops, theologians in the Church, who were in the process of the dialogue between science and religion on the subject of homosexuality were removed in the same way. By the curia’s unwarranted removal of these courageous followers of Christ in search for truth - they have seriously weakened the moral fabric of the US. They allowed the ignorance and fear of societal prejudices against homosexuals to continued to increase and to be exploited by people in power for their own selfish gain and irrational ideologies, as Hitler did to become dictator of Nazi Germany. Then, as now, the curia continues to operate in the breach of the dialogue between science and religion on the sexual orientation of homosexuality that Pope Benedict XVI warns against “Any breach in this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human development…” Because to harm me without truth and justice - having no knowledge of the science on homosexuality - the same as they have done endlessly to so many in the past - is to harm children - globally! Personally, I am quite unimportant - but not the truth of the facts of the science and religion that in good conscience I felt morally obligated, especially as a priest that I have risked my life by “coming out” March 1997 to protect the lives of defenseless children - who are not able to protect themselves. You have over played your hand. Jesus gives us words of warning and hope.

Be on your guard against
the yeast of the Pharisees,” he said.
“They just pretend to be godly.
Everything that is secret
will be brought out into the open.
Everything that is hidden
will be uncovered.
What you have said in the dark
will be heard in the daylight.
What you have whispered to someone
behind closed doors
will be shouted from the rooftops.
“My friends, listen to me.
Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body
but can’t do any more than that.
I will show you whom you should be afraid of.
Be afraid of the one who has the authority to throw you into hell after you have been killed.
Yes, I tell you, be afraid of him.
Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies?
But God does not forget even one of them.
In fact, he even counts every hair on your head!
So don’t be afraid.
You are worth more than many sparrows.
Luke 12:1-7

Theology Event Aims to Unite Church and LGBT Groups
September 2, 2017
The relationship between the Catholic Church and the LGBTQ+ community has long been characterized by tension. As a sect of Christianity that prides itself on tradition and following what the Catechism decrees, the Catholic Church has been known to condemn homosexuality and same-sex marriage, failing to recognize the rights of LGBTQ+ people. In recent years, a line of communication has begun to present itself between the two groups. This movement toward acceptance, or at least the encouragement of discussion surrounding the topic is being reflected in a variety of communities, including here at Fordham. In order to spur conversation about this relationship, the theology department will bring “Building a Bridge: The Catholic Church and the LGBT Community” to the McNally Amphitheatre on Sept. 5th…
…Only in recent years, with the appointment of Pope Francis, have we seen some flexibility and compromise within the Church and its attitude toward LGBTQ+ rights. In 2013, when asked whether he would criticize gay priests for their sexuality, Pope Francis famously said, “who am I to judge?
The goal of the event at Fordham will be to initiate discussion about the relationship between the two groups. Fr. James Martin, a Jesuit writer and influential figure in the Catholic faith, will present his newly published book on the relationship between the Church and the LGBTQ+ community. Professor Patrick Hornbeck, the head of the theology department noted, “His book has received both praise and criticism, the latter both from some representatives of the institutional church and from some leaders in the LGBTQ+ community. The Theology Department is eager to bring Fr. Martin to Fordham for a dialogue about his book, his response to the criticism he has received, and the overall state of the relationship between LGBTQ+ people and the Catholic Church.”…

Hitler and the Nazi regime built their edifice of the Third Reich from 1933 to 1945 based on Hitler’s arbitrary and irrational formulation of the pseudoscience of racial purity and presented it in pseudo-religious terminology. It was this false dehumanizing edifice of Nazism that led them to starting World War II and that ended falling, destroying them and much of Germany. By the end of World War II more than 70 million people died, equivalent to “wiping-out” the entire populations of both (a) the state of Michigan with 10 million people and (b) the country of Italy with 60 million people. It is “considered the single most destructive event in human history (Less Than Human - by David Livingstone Smith - The Psychology Of Cruelty - http://www.npr.org/2011/03/29/134956180/criminals-see-their-victims-as-less-than-human).” The Second World War from 1939-to 1945 was a global war. It was the most widespread war in history that involved over 100 million people, activated the total resources (economic, industrial, scientific capabilities) of 30 countries (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II).

Hitler's Place in History
Professor of Modern History at Sheffield University
Wednesday 27th April 2005
…How, then, should we look upon Hitler’s place in history? Primarily, as the inspiration of the most lethal and destructive war in history, and of the most terrible genocide the world has ever seen. He left behind him not just physical, but also moral, ruination such as history has never previously experienced. He represented an extreme pathology of modern society. He showed us the most radical face of modern inhumanity – how an advanced society can undergo a breathtaking descent into modern barbarity that’s quite without precedent. That’s what, with the passage of time, we can see was historically defining about Hitler. Never before Hitler’s time had we seen so clearly what human beings are capable of…
…we shouldn’t mystify Hitler’s personality. The uniqueness of Nazism can’t be reduced to that strange personality. Another time, another place, and Hitler would have had no impact at all. He couldn’t have derailed a modern society without that society itself making a major contribution to its own fate… We shouldn’t be complacentabout the future. New forms of fascism and racial intolerance rightly appal and worry us…
…what we can do is to remind ourselves of the essential point about Hitler: he represented the most fundamental and frontal assault ever launched on all that we associate with humanity and civilisation

The hierarchy who staff the curia at the Vatican are predominantly European and had to weather the atrocities of Hitler and Nazi regime. They have publicly displayed endlessly, their internalized homophobia most obviously by their obsessive and ruthless suppression of the science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. Including their silencing and removing anyone who dared to openly discuss this science or who were supportive to gay people.

What is important to note here is the degree of intensity associated with the outward expressions of the curia’s and hierarchy’s internalized homophobia has remained constant - unchanged for decades. It has seriously stunted their psychological growth that accounts for their immaturity - acting more like preadolescents than adults. What we are observing is the lifelong tragic effects caused to children in early childhood being raised in the lethally hostile antigay social environments poisoned by the atrocities committed by Hitler and the Nazi regime. The Nazis to silence and remove the anti-nazi opposition of the Catholic clergy - they staged highly publicized immorality trials of falsely accusing the priests of the crime of being homosexuals - in order to avoid any public outcry for sending the priests to concentration camps. The Nazis dehumanization of homosexuals treating them as subhumans created a lasting effect throughout the social environments of Europe.

However, the contrast of the social environment that Pope Francis being born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina - a distance of 7000 miles south of Rome, Italy, is the complete opposite from the social environments that members of the curia at Vatican were raised in Europe, including where Cardinal Sarah was born and raised. In Buenos Aires since the late 1800s men were dancing the tango together and have continued to the present. All children are harmed by being raised in hostile antigay social environments, but only the gay and bisexual children are likely to become obsessively antigay throughout their lives. Pope Francis shows no signs of any internalized homophobia whether gay, straight or bisexual.

Internalized homophobia is defined as the self-hatred and shame of homosexually oriented individuals that has been incorporated into their belief system; it is also a source of stress. The construct includes negative global attitudes toward homosexuality, discomfort with disclosure of sexual orientation to others, disconnectedness from other lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals, and discomfort with same-sex sexual activity…

"Do I Sound Gay?"
Gay men, internalized homophobia, and (re)defining the "gay voice"
E. J. R. David Ph.D. - July 20, 2015
…It is important to note that people are not born having negative attitudes about themselves or perceiving their characteristics as inferior or undesirable; self-hate is taught and learned. In this regard for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, research suggests that people develop internalized homophobia because they learned that being different or gender nonconforming was bad (from their families, friends, society in general) and so they also learned not to love themselves. In other words, people have internalized, accepted, or believed the homophobic messages that society has imposed upon them. So being stressed out and psychologically bothered by “sounding gay"—to the point that one’s self-esteem and other aspects of one’s life are negatively affected—is a very telling “symptom” of internalized homophobia

Not “just words”: Exposure to homophobic epithets leads to dehumanizing and physical distancing from gay men

Homophobic language is common. We demonstrate here that homophobic epithets impact the extent to which heterosexuals perceived homosexual men as human beings and how they act towards them. Our findings show that homophobic epithets are more than just common slurs as they are deviance markers. Their impact is not merely increasing negative attitudes toward and evaluation of a target. It goes beyond that as their specific nature induces heterosexuals dehumanizing and maintaining distance from gay men, with all the risks that this implies for discrimination and both intergroup and homophobia is reinforced and maintained

The signs that he shows the most is genuine empathy not only for gay people, but extraordinary for all those considered the least, the poor, immigrants, imprisoned, those most in need of our help - the list is endless. This capacity for empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another - is noticeably missing among the members of the curia and hierarchy, as revealed in the Vatileaks, and Pope Francis’s Christmas address to the curia, December 22, 2014, but especially by their public statements.

However, Pope Francis acts and reacts like everyday people that has universally caught the world’s attention, most notably among non-Catholics and people of no particular faith. I think the reason for this is because prior to Francis being elected to the papacy - he actually did walk those many miles for decades through the slums of Buenos Aires talking to people and listening to their sufferings.

Aerial view of Buenos Aires, Argentina
In such situations - we meet people that we would never have met otherwise, they are quite outside the usual social circles we travel within. We are exposed to worlds we never could imagine existed before. I know this - from my own experience and from cognitive psychology that we are changed by ever person we meet who is in pain and is suffering. The contrast between their lives and ours is so great, it all seems so unfair. It creates a “cognitive dissonance” in us that is unsettling - especially in those of us who profess we are Christ’s servants that is if we are not obsessively consumed about hiding our gay sexual orientation. We are left with the nagging realization that it is only by chance that we are not in their situation. Those images become etched in our minds. They cannot be erased. Therefore, we do not quite fit back into our normal social circles - it becomes difficult to go on enjoying the luxuries and advantages of our lives (which we have never before consider as luxuries, or advantages - i.e. running water, a bed, food, respectability, status etc.) when we know how badly other people are suffering without even the mere necessities of life. It tends to be the motivation that stirs us to attempt to make a difference in the world for the better. Meeting opposition like the curia’s dehumanizing tactics (not true of all members) only ignites us to work harder, because the Vatican is supposed to be Christ to all, especially the poor, and those consider to be the least of our brothers and sisters.

Jesus Cleanses the Temple
…on entering the temple area he began
to drive out those selling and buying there. He
overturned the tables of the money changers and the
seats of those who were selling doves. He did not permit anyone
to carry anything through the temple area.  Then he taught them
saying, “Is it not written:
‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples’?
But you have made it a den of thieves.”
Mark 11:15-17

Since, Benedict XVI retired in 2013 and the presence of Pope Francis alone has helped to exonerate Benedict XVI - because the curia’s antigay obsession still exists in full force even though it was gone underground. This has allowed light to shine more on Benedict’s writings, his addressing many issues of social justices, i.e. the inequality of economics, workers. Pope Francis is in sync with many of the same directives that Benedict wrote about before, but did not receive much attention. The following is only a partial listing of the curia’s and hierarchy’s ruthless and obsessive antigay crusade - completely void of any reality check with the science on homosexuality, it is the absence of truth therefore is void of love.

Vatican Warning Seen Against Liberal Views on Sexuality
October 31, 1986
VATICAN CITY — The Vatican's latest condemnation of homosexual acts, issued Thursday, was seen by some churchmen here as another in a series of blunt warnings to European and North American Catholics to abandon their increasingly liberal views concerning sexuality and other social issues...
The letter, dated Oct. 1 [1986] and made public Thursday, accused gay rights organizations of "deceitful propaganda" and trying to gain a foothold in the church…

Bishops Protest Vatican Advisory Condoning Anti-Homosexual Bias
Nov. 2,1992
Two Roman Catholic bishops have joined more than 1,500 Catholics in publicly protesting a Vatican document that said discrimination against homosexuals could be justified in areas like adoption, military service and the hiring of teachers or coaches.
Bishop Walter F. Sullivan of Richmond and Auxiliary Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton of Detroit were among the signers of a statement challenging the document, which was circulated to American bishops last June.
The document also warned against "well-intentioned support" of anti-discrimination laws that could lead to approval of homosexual behavior.
The document was unsigned...
...many other bishops are cool to the Vatican warning, either because they disagree with its contents or because they think it makes political judgments that should be left to local bishops, whohistorically have taken a variety of positions on local laws barring discrimination against homosexuals.
The Vatican document is based on "several misconceptions regarding homosexuality," the statement says. "There is an irrational fear that lesbian or gay people influence the sexual orientation of children or youth with whom they live or work. There are erroneous beliefs that lesbian and gay persons are erotically attracted to every person of their own gender and that they cannot control their sexual impulses in same-sex environments."
Homosexuals, it says, are "numbered among our finest teachers and coaches" and "have provided loving and nurturing homes for many children."

Vatican Instructs Legislators On Gays Backing Marriages Called 'Immoral'
August 1, 2003
The Vatican fired a booming shot yesterday in the rapidly escalating political battle over gay marriage, issuing specific instructions for Catholic lawmakers to oppose any effort to give legal status to homosexual unions.
According to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith – the Vatican's agency for policing Roman Catholic orthodoxy - "the Catholic law-maker has a moral duty to express his opposition [to gay marriage] clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral."
… Both documents came from the Vatican bureau headed by the conservative Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger…

Vatican opposes UN Declaration on decriminalisation of homosexuality
Dec. 12, 2008
Homosexuality is illegal in nearly half of the world's nations. In most of those countries which ban consensual adult same-sex relationships, the penalties range from a few years in jail to life imprisonment. But in the case of seven countries, all governed by Islamic law, the sentence is death. Two of those countries, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, will sit on the U.N. Human Rights Council in 2009.
The picture here shows two young gay men about to be hanged in Iran. In May, Britain granted asylum to a gay Iranian teenager studying in London who feared execution by Iranian authorities after his boyfriend was hanged for 'sodomy'. Iranian human rights campaigners say more than 4,000 gay people have been executed in their country since 1979.
The United Nations appears now increasingly minded to end the criminalisation of homosexuality, and later this month the UN General Assembly will issue an historic declaration calling for the decriminalisation of homosexuality across the world. It's historic because the General Assembly has never before considered the rights of the global gay and lesbian population in any convention, declaration or humanitarian law.
Why, then, is the Vatican opposing this new Declaration?...

5-Year Study by American Bishops – Roman Catholic Church Sex Abuse Cases
 May 18, 2011
“…the study is likely to be regarded as the most authoritative analysis of the scandal in the Catholic Church in America. The study, initiated in 2006, was conducted by a team of researchers at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City at a cost of $1.8 million… The National Institute of Justice, the research agency of the United States Department of Justice, supplied about $280,000…
The report notes that homosexual men began entering the seminaries “in noticeable numbers” from the late 1970s through the 1980s. By the time this cohort entered the priesthood, in the mid-1980s, the reports of sexual abuse of minors by priests began to drop and then to level off. If anything, the report says, the abuse decreased as more gay priests began serving the church…

Dolan wrote…“If the definition of marriage is continually being altered, could it not in the future be morphed again to include multiple spouses or even family members?”

Bishops state 'great concern' over executive order on LGBT discrimination
June 20, 2014
WASHINGTON - Archbishop-chairmen of several U.S. bishops' committees issued a statement Friday citing "great concern" over news that President Barack Obama is planning to issue an executive order banning discrimination against LGBT persons by federal contractors.

Catholic bishops find pornography more important than poverty
December 4, 2015
Pope Francis’ emphasis has been on “a poor church for the poor” and the church as a “field hospital.” But the agenda of the American bishops at their annual meeting in Baltimore last month was business as usual, with a focus on abortion, same-sex marriage, religious liberty and, especiallypornography.
The bishops labored over a document highlighting the evils of pornography and went into great detail about erotic stimulation, orgasm and masturbation, reminding us, as some of them do on a regular basis, that masturbation is always gravely evil. Because the church has repeatedly condemned pornography, it is not clear why the bishops put so much effort into this policy paper at this time.
What is clear is that a majority of U.S. Catholic bishops continue to be obsessed with things sexual and continue to ignore the pope’s exhortation to instead focus on issues relating to charity and justice. Thomas Reese, reporting on the bishops’ meeting for National Catholic Reporter, wrote, “Francis wants a pastoral church, preaching a Gospel-based message of love, compassion and justice — not a nagging church wagging its finger at people.”…

By adding this cruel and relentless enforcement to maintain the complete absence of the science of homosexuality, to their expressed level of immaturity, as noted by their inability to related with each other, their narcissistic propensity for recognition and control, the absence of empathy, all documented in the news media (i.e. Vatileaks 2012, Benedict XVI vast clean-up of the Vatican's finances) and described by Pope Francis on December 22, 2014, including the endless closeted gay sexual incidences - it appears clearly that they were victims of the child abuse growing up gay in extremely antigay social environments. In exploring their adult behavior - we will see how early childhood antigay trauma that is not acknowledged is passed down through the generations. This type of cycle of violence is only stopped when someone stands up and identifies the problem and then works to mend the situation. It must first be identified in ordered to end the this form of child abuse.

Their obsessive drive, lasting for decades - to maintained the absolute suppression of all the science of homosexuality and their inability to even dialogue maturely in a rational manner about human sexuality, especially on the topic of the sexual orientation of homosexuality are - major red flags indicating psychological problems. This is especially true, when it is the majority of a global group of celibate men. It continues to beg the question - what is the problem for not dialoguing about human sexuality?

Jesus’s words about children are timeless. By changing to become like little children, we are able re-enter the life of a child and experience what it is like to be totally dependent on adults. Through this process we are likely to see the world as a child sees it and remember how we as children experienced it. It can promote healing personally, as well as, preventing re-enacting the violence that we most likely have forgotten - and protect children more diligently from ever experiencing the same.

Photo & Photo

The practice of “foot binding” forever deforms the feet - the absence of the science of homosexuality deforms the person that is “the mutilation of a child’s spirit (Erik Erikson).” I came out to protect children growing up gay from the lifelong harmful effects caused by the influence of unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms forcing the unnatural suppression of a child’s gay sexual orientation. Forcing a child to suppress his or her gay sexual orientation is an unidentified violent form of child abuse, which I will explain more about this below. It deforms the meaning of love, because it is the absence of science that destroys truth and without truth there is no LOVE. It twist the meaning of the word love to mean the exact opposite, which is hate.

It demonizes the idea of two men in love - walking and holding hands and instead sanctifies the cowardliness of a lynching mob to hang the two men - without one word of reason. This is the breach in the dialogue between science and religion, which Benedict XVI warns “comes only at an enormous price to human development…(Caritas in Veritate 2007  2009).” The complete absence of any knowledge of the science of homosexuality for the past 60 years and the obsessive hostile tactics used to silence and remove anyone who dares to openly discuss this science - is the single common denominator shared among the majority of the members of curia and hierarchy. Collectively - their fierce negative emotional reaction expressed against the Midterm report: Synod of Bishops on the Family, Oct 14, 2014 regarding the “Welcoming homosexual persons” is a vivid affirmation of this single common denominator of hatred.

Vatican debate on gays provokes strong reaction from all corners
By Josephine Mckenna - October 10, 2014
VATICAN CITY — From questions of welcoming a gay son home for Christmas to denying the sacraments for the children of gay and lesbian parents, an ongoing debate on the Catholic Church’s approach to homosexuality has raised the hopes of some LGBT advocates and provoked the ire of the church’s right wing.
At the two-week Synod on the Family convened by Pope Francis here, the issue of homosexuality is competing for air time with similar questions of denying Communion to divorced and remarried Catholics or how to respond to couples that live together outside of marriage.
But with a rapidly shifting legal landscape, and a pope who famously asked “Who am I to judge?”, the debate over homosexuality is eliciting personal and charged reactions from all corners of the church.
The controversial debate was unwittingly fired up by Australians Ron and Mavis Pirola, the parents of four and delegates to the church family summit.
The Sydney couple told nearly 200 bishops about friends who had invited their gay son and his partner home for Christmas.
“They fully believed in the church’s teachings and they knew their grandchildren would see them welcome the son and his partner into the family,” the couple told those assembled in the Vatican’s Paul VI hall. “Their response could be summed up in three words: ‘He’s our son.’”
American hard-liner Cardinal Raymond Burke shot back on Thursday (Oct. 9) that children should be protected from “exposure” to gay relationships, which he rejected as “evil.”…

7 lessons from the Vatican’s wild and crazy Synod on the Family
 October 20, 2014
  5. Speech is free
Amid all the lobbying and armchair analysis, it’s important to step back and realize that in the three decades before Francis was elected pope, bishops, priests and theologians could have been investigatedcensuredsilenced or fired for many of the ideas that were being openly discussed at the synod.
That is perhaps the real earthquake, and it’s one that Francis himself wanted...

Archbishop Chaput ‘disturbed’ by Vatican synod debate, says ‘confusion is of the devil

Burke: Church under Francis is a ‘ship without a rudder’

The biggest unreported synod influence: human experience
Oct. 30, 2014 - Eugene Cullen Kennedy
...Besides offering his fellow cardinals a model of how to get transferred to Malta, Cardinal Burke, who loves to drape himself in the trailing yards of crimson silk of the old church's cappa magna, claims to be fighting for the integrity of church teaching in a world that irritates him by now being more sympathetic to homosexuals than to the vanished glory of the cappa magna.
Burke provides a sad example of a churchman who doesn't get or simply overrides the theological wisdom of human experience. By insisting that homosexuality is "intrinsically disordered," he aligns himself with other church leaders who have no clinical or theological basis for making such a judgment. Indeed, he employs a philosophical category that does not fit the human dignity of homosexual men and women.
...We can be thankful to Cardinal Burke for providing us with the contrast needed to see the understanding of human personality that may be the hallmark of Francis' papacy as well as of the synod on the family. The crimson-wrapped Burke is headed for exile on an island, the fate of a faux Napoleon who, thanks to the Peter Principle, has reached the level that matches his ignorance about and fear of homosexuals. He vindicates the sensible judgments tested by human experience while revealing how out of sync he is with the church he claims to defend...

Pope Francis at Mass: Love and justice are more important than attachment to the laws
31/10/14
...This way of life of being attached to the laws, distanced them from love and from justice.  They followed the laws and they neglected justice.  They followed the laws and they neglected love.  They were the models.  And for these people Jesus had only one word (to describe them): hypocrites...
...This is the path that Jesus teaches us, totally opposite to that of the doctors of law. And it’s this path from love and justice that leads to God.  Instead, the other path, of being attached only to the laws, to the letter of the laws, leads to closure, leads to egoism.  The path that leads from love to knowledge and discernment, to total fulfilment, leads to holiness, salvation and the encounter with Jesus. Instead, the other path leads to egoism, the arrogance of considering oneself to be in the right, to that so-called holiness of appearances, right?...

"The true shepherd"

Pope at Santa Marta: God goes to the limit so no one should be lost
6 November 2014
..."Being a half-way shepherd - Pope Francis said - is a defeat". "A shepherd must have the heart of God, go to the very limit" because he does not want anyone to be lost:
"The true shepherd, the true Christian has this zeal within: no one should be lost. And this is why they are not afraid to get his hands dirty. He is not afraid. He goes where he needs to go. He risks his lifehe risks his reputationhe risks losing his comforts, his status, even lose his ecclesiastical career as well, but he is the Good Shepherd. Even Christians have to be this way. It is so easy to condemn others, as they [the Pharisees] did - the tax collectors and sinners - it's so easy, but it is not Christian! It is not [the attitude of] the children of God. The Son of God goes to the very limit, the giver of life, as Jesus gave his for others. He cannot be content, keeping to himself: his comfort, his reputation, his peace of mind. Remember this: no half-way shepherds, never! No half-way Christians, never!...

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin defends Pope Francis from Cardinal Burke - November 6, 2014
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has a message for the conservative clerics loudly criticizing Pope Francis in the press – don’t be afraid, the sky isn’t falling...
Archbishop Martin said he was “quite surprised at the remarks of some commentators within church circles about the recent Synod of Bishops, often making accusations of confusion where such confusion did not exist and so actually fomenting confusion.”
...But Archbishop Martin scoffed at Burke’s claim. During a mass at the Dublin Institute of Technology this week Martin questioned how strong the faith of the pope’s critics can be can be if they are so threatened by discussions about groups they usually prefer to condemn?
Archbishop Martin said he believed that “a longing for certainties may spring from personal uncertainty rather than strong faith.”
“A strong – and indeed orthodox faith – is never afraid of discussion,” he added...

In the last 50 years a pope has not been criticised so brazenly
13 November 2014
US bloggers and “culture warriors” – even the now-former Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, Cardinal Burke – have publicly laid into Pope Francis in the media, criticising the calling and content of last month’s Extraordinary Synod on the Family.
…But I do not think that US culture warriors should publicly criticise Pope Francis, who is not only restoring episcopal collegiality but the scriptural based notion of God’s “infinite love and mercy” rather than just man-made Pharisaic and poorly drafted canon law.

Sarah linked - gay rights to “Nazi-Fascism and Communism”
October 22, 2015
…Of the many measures under debate here, two have emerged as the most polemic.
One is whether to grant divorced and remarried Catholics, who are committing adultery in the church’s view, access to Communion. The other is the question of whether to offer a warmer welcome to gays and lesbians, including cutting references to being gay as “intrinsically disordered” from church teachings.
The divide is not just a liberal-conservative split; it is also geographic, with prelates in Africa, for instance, denouncing the “Eurocentric” and “Western” fixation with issues such as gay rights.
Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah linked the push for gay rights to abortion and Islamic extremism, comparing them all to what “Nazi-Fascism and Communism were in the 20th century.”
The vehemence of the backlash has shocked even some moderate conservatives, and it has suggested the rise of a tea-party-like faction of bishops within the hierarchy.
“Some of them are talking now like this is Armageddon,” Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane, Australia, said in an interview with The Washington Post.
“They see themselves as the sons of goodness and others as the sons of darkness and evil. I have been very surprised by this apocalyptic view of things at the synod. . . . This isn’t the way discussions are done,” he added…

Pope Francis’s Christmas message to the Roman Curia on December 22, 2014 regarding making “a real examination of conscience” he describes many aspects that appear close, to the symptoms of Heinz Kohut’s self psychology model, of narcissistic psycho-pathology. This is the result of the lack of parental empathic caring during early childhood psychological development. It is a description of the lifelong harmful effects caused during early childhood - when a gay child is forced to suppress his sexual orientation, which in effect is to be raised never to fall in love that somehow the gay child’s idea of love was wrong and evil. Pope Francis’s descriptions of the Roman Curia’s "spiritual Alzheimer’s disease," "excessively busy,” "rivalry and vainglory,” “indifference,” “accumulation,” “worldly profit and exhibitionism,” are the only things left to a gay child when that child is forced to suppress his need for love.

Pope issues scathing critique of Vatican bureaucracy in pre-Christmas meeting
December 22, 2014
…Many of the 15 diseases given by Francis were frank and blunt: a feeling of indispensability like a "rich fool"; of having a "spiritual Alzheimer's" that makes a person dependent on the present; of living an "existential schizophrenia" of double lives that create "parallel worlds"; and a "terrorism of gossip" that sows discord and that amounts to "cold-blooded murder" of friends and colleagues…

To the Roman Curia on the occasion of the presentation of Christmas greetings (22 December 2014) | Francis
ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS
Monday, 22 December 2014
1. The disease of thinking we are “immortal”, “immune” or downright “indispensable, neglecting the need for regular check-ups. A Curia which is not self-critical, which does not keep up with things, which does not seek to be more fit, is a sick body…
2. Another disease is the “Martha complex”, excessive busy-ness. It is found in those who immerse themselves in work and inevitably neglect “the better part”: sitting at the feet of Jesus (cf. Lk 10:38-42)…
3. Then too there is the disease of mental and spiritual “petrification. It is found in those who have a heart of stone, the “stiff-necked” (Acts 7:51-60), in those who in the course of time lose their interior serenity, alertness and daring, and hide under a pile of papers, turning into paper pushers and not men of God (cf. Heb 3:12). It is dangerous to lose the human sensitivity that enables us to weep with those who weep and to rejoice with those who rejoice!…
4. The disease of excessive planning and of functionalism. When the apostle plans everything down to the last detail and believes that with perfect planning things will fall into place, he becomes an accountant or an office manager. Things need to be prepared well, but without ever falling into the temptation of trying to contain and direct the freedom of the Holy Spirit, which is always greater and more flexible than any human planning (cf. Jn 3:8)…
5. The disease of poor coordination. Once its members lose communion among themselves, the body loses its harmonious functioning and its
equilibrium; it then becomes an orchestra which produces noise: its members do not work together and lose the spirit of fellowship and teamwork…
6. There is also a “spiritual Alzheimer’s disease”…It involves a progressive decline in the spiritual faculties which in the long or short run greatly handicaps a person by making him incapable of doing anything on his own, living in a state of absolute dependence on his often imaginary perceptions…
7. The disease of rivalry and vainglory.[11] When appearances, the colour of our clothes and our titles of honour become the primary object in life, we forget the words of Saint Paul: “Do nothing from selfishness or conceit but in humility count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Phil 2:3-4)…
8. The disease of existential schizophrenia. This is the disease of those who live a double life, the fruit of that hypocrisy typical of the mediocre and of a progressive spiritual emptiness which no doctorates or academic titles can fill. It is a disease which often strikes those who abandon pastoral service and restrict themselves to bureaucratic matters, thus losing contact with reality, with concrete people…
9. The disease of gossiping, grumbling and back-biting. I have already spoken many times about this disease, but never enough. It is a grave illness which begins simply, perhaps even in small talk, and takes over a person, making him become a “sower of weeds” (like Satan) and in many cases, cold-blooded killer of the good name of our colleagues and confrères. It is the disease of cowardly persons who lack the courage to speak out directly, but instead speak behind other people’s backs…
10. The disease of idolizing superiors. This is the disease of those who court their superiors in the hope of gaining their favour. They are victims of careerism and opportunism; they honour persons and not God (cf. Mt 23:8- 12). They serve thinking only of what they can get and not of what they should give. Small-minded persons, unhappy and inspired only by their own lethal selfishness (cf. Gal 5:16-25). Superiors themselves could be affected by this disease, when they court their collaborators in order to obtain their submission, loyalty and psychological dependency, but the end result is a real complicity…
11. The disease of indifference to others. This is where each individual thinks only of himself and loses sincerity and warmth of human relationships. When the most knowledgeable person does not put that knowledge at the service of his less knowledgeable colleagues. When we learn something and then keep it to ourselves rather than sharing it in a helpful way with others. When out of jealousy or deceit we take joy in seeing others fall instead of helping them up and encouraging them…
12. The disease of a lugubrious face. Those glum and dour persons who think that to be serious we have to put on a face of melancholy and severity, and treat others – especially those we consider our inferiors – with rigourbrusqueness and arrogance (having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities)…
13. The disease of hoarding. When an apostle tries to fill an existential void in his heart by accumulating material goods, not out of need but only in order to feel secure
14. The disease of closed circles, where belonging to a clique becomes more powerful than belonging to the Body and, in some circumstances, to Christ himself…
15. Lastly: the disease of worldly profit, of forms of self-exhibition. When an apostle turns his service into power, and his power into a commodity in order to gain worldly profit or even greater power. This is the disease of persons who insatiably try to accumulate power and to this end are ready to slander, defame and discredit others, even in newspapers and magazines…

The Vatican for the past several decades reeks with nearly all forms of dissociated repressed homosexual acting out behavior, from cocaine gay sex orgies, to obsessive antigay crusade and everything in between. Who are they kidding?!? It is like, what a friend long ago said to me in reference to the quality of another social environment “The place is filled to the top with manure - passed the noses of everyone there and yet everyone continues to act as if everything is wonderful!”

For the heart of this people has become dull,
With their ears they scarcely hear,
And they have closed their eyes,
Otherwise they would see with their eyes,
Hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I would heal them.’
Matthew 13:15

The Closet: Psychological Issues of Being In and Coming Out
Jack Drescher MD - 2004
…In the developmental histories of gay men and women, periods of difficulty in acknowledging their homosexuality, either to themselves or to others, are often reported. Children who grow up to be gay rarely receive family support in dealing with antihomosexual prejudices. On the contrary, beginning in childhood--and distinguishing them from racial and ethnic minorities--gay people are often subjected to the antihomosexual attitudes of their own families and communities (Drescher et al., 2004). Antihomosexual attitudes include homophobia (Weinberg, 1972), heterosexism (Herek, 1984), moral condemnations of homosexuality (Drescher, 1998) and antigay violence (Herek and Berrill, 1992). Hiding activities learned in childhood often persist into young adulthood, middle age and even senescence, leading many gay people to conceal important aspects of themselves.
Closeted individuals frequently cannot acknowledge to themselves, let alone to others, their homoerotic feelings, attractions and fantasies. Their homosexuality is so unacceptable that it must be kept out of conscious awareness and cannot be integrated into their public persona. Consequently, these feelings must be dissociated from the self and hidden from others…

…For example, a religious, homosexually self-aware man may choose a celibate life to avoid what, for him, would be the problematic integration of his religious and sexual identities

…Clinical presentations of closeted gay people may lie somewhere in severity between selective inattention--most commonly seen in the case of homosexually self-aware patients thinking about "the possibility" that they might be gay--to more severe dissociation--in which any hint of same-sex feelings resides totally out of conscious awareness. More severe forms of dissociation are commonly observed in married men who are homosexually self-aware but cannot permit the thought of themselves as gay (Roughton, 2002)…
…Strong antihomosexual feelings may represent an effort to control perceptions of a gay-basher's own sexual identity. This might translate as, "If I attack gay people, no one will think I am gay." Psychoanalysts call this defense "identification with the aggressor" (Freud, 1966). It may represent intrapsychic efforts to maintain a psychological distance from one's own homoerotic feelings. In other words, it is an effort to strengthen dissociative tendencies…
Internalized, antihomosexual attitudes are often rigid and disdainful of compromise or "relativism." A patient's dogmatic belief system may not recognize the concept of respectful disagreement…

Ex-Swiss guard complains of sexual advances in Vatican
Jan 8, 2014
For almost 500 years, young men from all over Switzerland have made the trek to Rome to guard the pope as Swiss guards.
Now a former member of the elite division has revealed that, besides protecting the pontiff, he spent his two years in the Vatican rebuffing unwanted sexual advances from priests, bishops and even a high-ranking cardinal.
The unnamed guard told a Swiss newspaper that he was the subject of 20 “unambiguous sexual requests”.
“One night, after midnight, I received a call on my mobile phone,” said the former guard in the interview. “The person on the other end said he was a cardinal and he asked me to come to his room.”
On another occasion the guard, who said he served during the papacy of Pope John Paul II, found a bottle of whiskey outside his door alongside the calling card of an influential bishop.
He recalled a dinner with a priest in a Rome restaurant that took an unexpected turn.
“As the spinach and steak were served, the priest said to me: ‘And you are the dessert’,” recalled the ex-guard, saying he stood up and left without touching his food. When the guard complained about the incident to his superior in the guard, he said he was told that, as he spoke no Italian, he had clearly misunderstood the priest’s intentions…

Secrets of the Vatican - March 2014

Excerpts:
ROBERT MICKENS, Vatican Correspondent, The Tablet: I came here when I was a seminarian in 1986. And I remember I had this very wide-eyed idea of the Vatican, of these holy cardinals and holy men. And I was shocked within a matter of weeks, months, at the careerism, at the sexual innuendo, the— just the whole kind of non-holy life I hadn't expected.
VATICAN GUIDE: [through interpreter] A large part of the hierarchy is homosexual. Certainly, at the top levels of the church, in the Curia, and many important people, such as bishops and archbishops, are gay.
NARRATOR: He's a Vatican guide who says he's had relationships with several priests.
VATICAN GUIDE: [through interpreter] Here in Rome, it's very easy to meet a gay priest, on a bus, in a church, and important churches like St. Peter's. It's even easier when you go to gay clubs and gay bars. You see them in the bars, and then at the altar the following Sunday…

Who is to blame for all the overflowing gay sexual acting out behavior? Is it the priests and members of the hierarchy involved in the cocaine gay sex orgies, soliciting gay prostitutes, or the members of the hierarchy who purchased apartments next door to Europe's largest gay bathhouse? The place is over flowing with manure and still the Congregation for Clergy reaffirms its stand on banning “persons with homosexual tendencies.” Who’s Nuts?!? So, what is the problem?

To find the truth - we all must go back and follow the warnings of both Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI about maintaining an ongoing dialogue between science and religion on the subject of homosexuality. This will begin untwisting of the true meaning and value of love from being the exact opposite.

We will learn from science why the members of the curia and hierarchy - with their over-the-top obsessive antigay crusade to completely silence all the knowledge of the emerging science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality for the past 60 years - why it has led to the Vatican being inundated with unending gay sex scandals. It has been inundated by such scandals as recent as 2017 “Vatican’s Swiss Guards Break Up a Drug-Fueled Gay Orgy,” 2013 “Priests In Panties,” 2010 - “Le Notti Brave Dei Preti Gay,” or “Good Nights Out for Gay Priests,” 2010 “Gay priests giving gay priests a bad name.” We will most especially learn that “…the church's real problem is the closet (Bryan Cones).” The science on sexual orientation will all clearly establish the fact that a person’s sexual orientation cannot be suppressed or consciously controlled and that such efforts to personally to do so will more than likely lead to the over abundant gay sex scandals imploding endlessly at the Vatican.

Science  +

On Gay Priests “Who am I to Judge?”
July 29, 2013
Pope Francis

We have to find a new balance; otherwise
even the moral edifice of the church is likely to
FALL LIKE A HOUSE OF CARDS,
losing the freshness and fragrance
of the Gospel.
Pope Francis

SCIENCE can purify religion from error and superstition;
RELIGION can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes.
Each can draw the other into a wider world,
a world in which both can flourish.
For the truth of the matter is that the Church and the scientific community will inevitably interact; their options
DO NOT include ISOLATION.
Pope John Paul II - 1988

…TRUTH is the light that gives meaning and value to CHARITY. That light is both the light of REASON and the light of FAITH, through which the intellect attains to the natural and supernatural truth of charity: it grasps its meaning as GIFT, acceptance, and communion. WITHOUT truth, charity degenerates into SENTIMENTALITY. Love becomes an EMPTY SHELL, to be filled in an ARBITRARY way. In a CULTURE without truth, this is the FATAL risk facing love. It FALLS prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted,to the point where it comes to MEAN the opposite. Truth FREES charity from the constraints of an EMOTIONALISM that deprives it of relational and social content, and of a FIDEISM that deprives it of human and universal breathing-space. In the truth, charity reflects the personal yet public dimension of faith in the God of the Bible, who is both Agápe and Lógos: Charity and Truth, Love and Word…
REASON always stands in need of being purified by faith: this also holds true for political reason, which must not consider itself OMNIPOTENT. For its part, RELIGION always needs to be purified by reason in order to show its authentically human face. Any breach in this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human development
Pope Benedict XVI 2007 2009

Science  +

 + Religion = Truth = L O V E

July 12, 2017

Bishop David J. Walkowiak
Bishop of the Grand Rapids Diocese
360 Division Avenue S.,
Grand Rapids, MI 49503-4501

Dear Bishop David,

I received your letter dated October 2015, that included a request to set an appointment to dialogue with you. At the time, my commitments, obligations and lack of financial means did not permit me to follow through. Furthermore, the around trip from Canton, MI to Grand Rapids, MI would have been about eight hours. However, after seeking reliable spiritual direction I was advised to write a letter to accept your request to meet. In the process of writing this letter, I began to thoroughly research the situation, from the combined insight obtained from three professionals perspectives, as a priest, as a psychologist, and as a historian. Through these perspectives, I have analyzed the many ways in which I was a victim of antigay hierarchal violence, having no judicial oversight to appeal to for protection within the church or civilly. This is an unidentified form of structural violence directed not at me alone but also many priests, theologians, sisters, religious and others, including Pope Francis for the past four decades - all have been victims of this form of violence.

S t r u c t u r a l   V i o l e n c e
Introduction
by Deborah Du Nann Winter and Dana C. Leighton
Peace, conflict, and violence: Peace psychology in the 21st century
Direct violence is horrific, but its brutality usually gets our attention: we notice it, and often respond to it. Structural violence, however, is almost always invisibleembedded in ubiquitous social structures, normalized by stable institutions and regular experience. The chapters in this section teach us about some important but invisible forms of structural violence, and alert us to the powerful cultural mechanisms that create and maintain them over generations…
One outcome of exclusionary thinking is the belief that victims of violence must in some way deserve their plight. But certainly it is easy to see that young children do not deserve to be victims…
Section II:  Winter, D. D., & Leighton, D. C. (2001). Structural violenceIn D. J. Christie, R. V. Wagner, & D. D. Winter (Eds.), Peace, conflict, and violence: Peace psychology in the 21st centuryNew York: Prentice-Hall.

The main purpose of this form of structural violence is to silence and remove anyone in the Church who openly discusses the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality - gay people. This antigay hierarchical, structural violence has been successful in firmly suppressing this science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. In 1957, world renowned psychologist, Dr. Evelyn Hooker conducted ground breaking research proving that homosexuality is not a mental illness. She proved that being homosexual was just as normal as being heterosexual. For years the hierarchical church has rebuked such scientifically sound findings and have championed the obsessive suppression of gay people. Such actions lead to question who benefits from falsifying truth? The hierarchical church did not suppress the scientific research on heart surgery or cancer for the past 60 years. This vicious form of gay suppression is entrenched in the corruption of the curia in which speaking the truth has become a reprehensible thing. Through my years of analysis, I have come to find that the greatest harm this suppression imposes is on our children.

Truly I tell you, unless you
change and become like little children,
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this
child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever welcomes one such child in
my name welcomes me.
Matthew 18: 3-5

…whoever causes one of these
little ones
who believe in Me to stumble,
it would be better for him
to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck,
and to be drowned in the
depth of the sea.
Matthew 18:6

My “coming out” in March 1997 was all based on substantiated science and scripture. Furthermore, it was motivated to protect defenseless children. How did risking my life by coming out warrant such extreme vindictive retaliation for the past 20 years by members of the curia and hierarchy?

How did it get twisted around that I refused to return to the Grand Rapids Dioceses, when in fact, it was made clear to me that it was unsafe for me to return by their coercing me to acquiesce to being sent away to be re-educated on the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. They wanted me to leave the priesthood on my own, which would be another grave sin to commit. Since I had no recourse to appeal to for justice in 1997 - what recourse would I have available to me if I returned and more severe immoral tactics were used against me?

This tactic of the curia to dispose of someone was most recently demonstrated by Cardinal Raymond Burke firing Boeselager the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. Burke falsified a papal decision of Pope Francis that no one was to be fired, that the problematic issues with the Knights of Malta should be resolved through dialogue. Burke without any true dialogue with Boeselager stated that it was Pope Francis’s wish that he resign as the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. When Boeselager refused to resign because of “unreasonable circumstances,” Burke fired him on the grounds of disobedience. Sound familiar?  Boeselager, then appealed directly to Pope Francis and an investigation was ordered into the firing of Boeselager. It was later exposed that the grounds that Burke had used against Boeselager were over “condoms.” However, this information was contrived by a group of Burke’s supporters known as “Lepanto Institute for the Restoration of All Things in Christ.” This group is described as a “militant traditionalist organization close to Burke (Austen Ivereigh).” “This ultraconservative organization specialized in the denunciation of "gays” entering the Church and in attacks on the major development associations that question unfettered economic liberalism (La Croix International).” On February 4, 2017, Pope Francis replaced Cardinal Burke as the Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and overnight all over Rome appeared posters of Pope Francis with a sad expression with the words - “Where is your mercy?”

It was the truth from science and religion that morally obligated me to come out for the protection of children growing up gay in March 1997. This was an act of love and my duty as a priest. It is the true meaning of being a priest. Pope Francis  on Thursday, June 22, 2017  in his homily during Mass at Casa Santa Marta confirmed this fact stating,"The Good Shepherd gives his life for his sheep,” using as an example the parish priest of Barbiana, Fr. Don Milani, the from the Diocese of Firenze (Florence).

The research to find the answers to these questions endlessly kept unfolding more and more information that led back in time - more than a century and a half. The research doors were opened wide once Pope Francis was elected and he along with his team of experts, and cardinals began reforming the curia. The research revealed two main historical events that were dependent on exploiting societal prejudices against gay people to rise and to stay in power. The, first, began with the ideology of Nazism promoted by Hitler and the Nazi regime that led to the deaths of 70 million people unprecedented in human history. The, second, began the with ideology of the “trickle-down theory” known as Reaganomics that led to Globalization and the greatest inequality in human history - “A world where 1% of humanity controls as much wealth as the bottom 99% will never be stable (President Obama’s departing speech to the UN General Assembly September 2016). Ian Kershaw explains what Hitler’s place in history will be:

…Primarily, as the inspiration of the most lethal and destructive war in history, and of the most terrible genocidethe world has ever seen.
The uniquenessof Nazism can’t be reduced to that strange personality. Another time, another place, and Hitler would have had no impact at all. He couldn’t have derailed a modern society without that society itself making a major contribution to its own fate… We shouldn’t be complacent about the future. New forms of fascism and racial intolerance rightly appal and worry us…
…what we can do is to remind ourselves of the essential point about Hitler: he represented the most fundamental and frontal assault ever launched on all that we associate with humanity and civilisation.
Excerpt from: - Hitler’s Place in History - Ian Kershaw
Professor of Modern History at Sheffield University
Lecture - Wednesday 27th April 2005

Over the past year and a half - I have been researching and writing 24/7, since I received your letter - gathering significant amounts of factual data on all three levels (as a priest, psychologist and historian). This research includes my personal experience of being a victim of the hierarchical, antigay violence. As it happens when I do research, such as it did when I was doing the qualitative research on the Holocaust in graduate school for psychology, it is only after thoroughly exhausting every possible avenue several times do all the pieces begin to fall into place like  a jigsaw puzzle that a picture is formed.

The picture centers on the crucial importance for the safety and well-being of all of humanity present and on into the future and is dependent on maintaining an ongoing dialogue between science and religion. This is necessary to obtain truth that which then gives meaning and value to love. Without this truth formed through this process -

…Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. It falls prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted,to the point where it comes to mean the opposite…
Benedict XVI - Caritas in Veritate 2007  2009

Pope Benedict XVI goes on to make the warning that “Any breach in this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human development…” St. Pope John Paul II made an early statement to this effect explaining how science and religion cannot be separated. He explains - as Benedict does that science is the study of all of God’s creation and religion is formed from the bible, which is the inspired word of God. They both explain how the dialogue between science and religion becomes a self-correcting mechanism of oversight, preventing abuse and maintaining integrity of both science and religion - thus allowing science and religion to guide us on our journey into the future. Both John Paul II and Benedict XVI are writing from their experience having lived through the atrocities of Hitler and the Nazi regime (1933-1945) that resulted from their manipulation and abuse of science and religion to invent a pseudo-science to legitimize Hitler’s ideology of Nazism and pseudo-religious terms to promote it. They experienced living in a social environment saturated in the racial ideology of Nazism - where the meaning of love was so twisted around that in actuality love meant the opposite. Love meant exterminating people considered to be less than human or subhuman - “Life Unworthy Of Life.”

With the recent election of President Trump we are experiencing living in a similar social environment saturated with the ideology of the “trickle-down theory.” This led to Globalization that was also legitimized by the manipulation of science and religion that twisted the meaning of love around to mean the exact opposite. In addition to Mr. Trump’s behavior, the Republican Convention 2016 slogans, “Lock her up!” (that sounded like the palpable hysteria of the Nazi Party “Sieg Heil” chant at a Cathedral lit Nuremberg Rally of the 1930s) and his being elected US president are all blatant examples of love twisted to mean the opposite. Both the rise of Nazism and Globalization were depended on the exploitation of societal prejudices against gay people.

However, in regards to rise of the  “trickle-down theory”of the 1980s that led to Globalization - the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are responsible for the exploitation of societal prejudices against gay people. The research of Dr. Evelyn Hooker and subsequent research completely dispel prejudices against gay people. Instead of the curia and hierarchy acknowledging the truth of this science - they manipulated religion by misusing the bible and continued to wrongly condemn homosexuality. Thus they twisted the meaning of truth around to the point that it continues to mean the opposite. They and their supporters are not about truth and therefore not about love. They are no different than the palpable hysteria of the Nazi Party “Sieg Heil” members at the Nuremberg Rallies of the 1930s. And this is the violence, their twisted meaning of truth - the complete absence of love, they have used against me and against so many others before and after me. Some of our best and brightest theologians and bridge makers, such as, Sister Jeannine Gramick and Fr. Robert Nugent. Gramick and Nugent have been responsible since 1977 for saving millions of people’s lives, especially very young children. To the best of my knowledge, they were the first to begin an ongoing dialogue on the science of the sexual orientation of homosexuality - gay people and religion - scripture and theology.

S c i e n c e   can purify religion from error and superstition;
R e l i g i o n   can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes.
Each can draw the other into a wider world,
a world in which both can flourish.
For the truth of the matter is that the Church and the scientific
community will inevitably interact; their options
do not include isolation.
St. Pope John Paul II - 1988

I came out in March 1997: for the protection of children, as young as 4 and 5 years of age, who are growing up gay. Since then it has become a moral obligation to educate and prevent forced parental suppression and unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms. What has bothered me ever since was the fact that I found it difficult to find the  r o o t   c a u s e  in understanding “how” and “why” and “when” did the meaning of “love” and “truth” get so monumentally - twisted around; notably among the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy to mean the exact opposite.

For the past 10 years I have been writing in an effort to explain how this mindless inquisition that started almost immediately after coming out in June 1997 - of being coerced “behind closed doors” by a directive from the curia conveyed by the bishop for me to acquiesce to being sent away “somewhere” to be re-educated on the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. This directive was not only shocking, but traumatizing as well.

This irrational directive from the curia completely negated the immediate need of protecting the lives of millions of very young defenseless children from lifelong debilitating harmful effects. It also negated the wealth of the authoritative substantiated research gathered from the major medical and mental health associations, institutions, and organizations, including universities. This was the reason for my “coming out.”

Through knowledge acquired during my studies at the University of Michigan and attending the American Psychological AssociationNational Conventions my research was reinforced on the science of sexual orientation. The action of the curia and hierarchy was a blatant affront, a direct attack on truth and love, as taught and embodied in Jesus Christ, of which the entire purpose and meaning of priesthood is based on. It was like a supervisor telling a heart surgeon that he is going to be be sent away on a sabbatical to be reeducated on the ancient system of medicine known as “bloodletting.” I cannot explain how twisted it sounded - to be told such absurdity!!! “Who in the hell is running this ship?!?” I was 47 years old at the time.

How did the curia and hierarchy cause a breach in the dialogue between science and religion that ended up twisting the meaning of love around to mean the opposite?

We will learn from studying the - science on sexual orientation that it is composed of interrelated biological and psychological processes that are not able to be consciously controlled or suppressed. These interrelated processes function outside our conscious awareness - automatically and continuously throughout life as part of the autonomic nervous system - like the heart beating and breathing. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation - is essential in meeting our most basic human need for love, attachment, intimacy, through which empathy is developed. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation is as vital to human survival from the beginning of life to the end - as the heart beating and breathing. Any attempt to force the suppression of a child’s gay sexual orientation is the same as suppressing the heart and breathing rate which can cause a number of lifelong adverse effects (persistent form of depression (dysthymia), suicidal ideation, and obsessive dislike for gay people that is implicit, to explicit verbal expressions of hate, to lethal forms of violence, and torture).

The majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are European. They are the ones who grew up in the toxic antigay social environments left behind by Hitler’s Nazi regime. This begins to explain the long history of the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy’s collective obsessive antigay crusade. This collective thought suppressed all emerging science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. For these members of the curia and hierarchy the thought of gay science has been a long closed door slammed shut in their early childhood years. This was out of great fear from their witnessing the terror in the adult’s warnings of how Hitler treated priests who were found out to be homosexuals. As this trauma of the early childhood events are not remembered, only the emotional terror of the event remains. It is this emotional terror that is wronglymistaken as an innate guiding voice of their conscience strongly conveying to them that homosexuality is evil. This misunderstanding then becomes a force that completely obliterates years of scientific research on homosexuality. It is more likely that such scientific research ignites seemingly unending waves of unexplainable terror. That door slammed tightly shut - is the breach in the dialogue between science and religion on the issue of homosexuality. This is a childhood defense mechanism. It is the only means available to the child to stop the unending waves of fear. However, as adults, these childhood defenses must be reexamined in a safe environment - to be challenged in the adult dialogue between science and religion on issues of homosexuality. As Pope Benedict XVI explains, this is the only process to find truth and give real value and meaning to the understanding of love. I do not presume this to be an easy task to unravel and should only be attempted in a safe environment. However, this situation - is not unusual - it brings to mind the words of St. Paul to be understood with great care and empathy.

When I was a child, I talked like a child,
I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
1 Corinthians 13:11

No, no, no this type of breach in the dialogue between science and religion on gay sexual orientation has to stop! Justice demands that I be exonerated and proper restitution be made for all harm endured, including the lost salary for the past 20 years to be made quickly. Not to follow through on this road of true justice is to continue this breach in the dialogue between science and religion on gay sexual orientation. Am I, like so many others, going to be made an example of what happens when a priest speaks aloud the truth? Will this be a situation reminiscent of Hitler’s regime to remove and silence Anti-Nazi priests? Are you going demonstrate publicly how an advanced society of people made a major contribution to the modern barbarity of Hitler and the Nazi regime by their complicity and indifference?

My moral obligation as a priest is to protect people, especially children.

I look forward to setting a time to dialogue the reality of this situation in the light of the warnings of both St. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI while maintaining an open discussion between science and religion for the search of truth that leads to love.

Sincerely yours,

Re-education Clinics - of homosexual sexual orientation

QUACKS: 'Conversion Therapists,' the Anti-LGBT Right, and the Demonization of Homosexuality
May 25, 2016
This is a report about junk science and some of the people who propagate it. It is not about silly, perhaps amusing theories about ESP or life on the moon or even purported miracle cures for cancer. The “science” examined here actively harms people, leading with grim regularity to suicidedepression and an array of self-destructive behaviors. It demeans, defames and defrauds human beings, typically at their most vulnerable moments. And, as if that weren’t enough, it regularly lays the blame for the alleged malady of homosexuality at the feet of gay people’s parents, despite the fact that they are wholly innocent.
Executive Summary
Will standing in a circle of naked men deep in the woods turn gay men straight? Is disrobing in front of a mirror alone with your therapist and then touching “your masculinity” a cure for homosexuality? Does beating a pillow representing your mother really help develop “healthy” relationships with other men?
The men and women who people this industry known as “conversion,” “reparative” or “ex-gay” therapists are like modern-day phrenologists, the “experts” beloved by the Nazis who thought they could identify inferior human beings by measuring their subjects’ skulls. They employ theories that have been thoroughly debunked by virtually all relevant medical associations. They cite bizarre studies that were shot down decades ago as key documents. They use techniques that were described in court by one expert as “worse than snake oil.” They are quacks.
Many of them are doubtless sincere. Some describe their own struggles with “unwanted same-sex attractions.” But sincere or not, the promotion of conversion therapy has a cynical side. If being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is merely a chosen behavior, one that can be “fixed” with the right mental health treatment, then criticizing LGBT people for their sexual choices is akin to simply criticizing bad behavior. Unlike attacking someone for their skin color, reparative therapists can condemn the gay “lifestyle” and still claim that they are not LGBT-hating bigots.
The real science is perfectly clear. A consensus of the vast majority of psychiatrists, psychologists and other counselors and their professional organizations agree that homosexuality is a normal variation of human sexuality. Likewise, they condemn reparative therapy and other attempts to change sexual orientation

Fr. Marty Kurylowicz - June 9, 2017
Excerpts:

Holy Family Parish, Sparta, Michigan

The hierarchy and Pope Francis -  vividly validated the reasoning for the immediacy - why I came out in March 1997, as pastor of Holy Family Parish, Sparta, Michigan - for the protection of gay children, as young as 4 and 5 years of age - from the lifelong harmful effects growing up gay or bisexual - during early childhood caused by the influence of anti-gay social and religious norms. These lifelong harmful effects can be clearly observed in the curia and hierarchy fierce homophobic behavior - their inability to form life-long meaningful and fulfilling relationships, including their inability to connect with others, their lack of empathy for others, their over concerns about outward appearance, status and careers, as noted in Pope Francis "Christmas address to the curia", December 22, 2014.  It is not only their complete absence of maintaining any ongoing dialogue between science and religion on the topic homosexual sexual orientation for the past 60 years, which is directly against the words of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI , it is also by their immediate emotional explosive outbursts to the 2014 midterm report of Synod session on Family - that listed notes of the open discussion that took place -  discussing ways of how to be pastorally more welcoming to gay people and their families, including ways of valuing long term committed gay relationships. There was a lot of emotional outbursts among the curia and hierarchyhowever, there is absolutely - no detail reasoning to substantiate their extraordinary hostile and aggressive reactions to the report. So intense was their fierce emotional reaction that the continuation of this open discussion on gay people scheduled for the second synod on Family session 2015 had to be canceled.

Sadly, one cannot, also, help to notice the enormous amount of the emotional psychic energy that is use by the curia and the hierarchy completely absorbed in an anti-gay obsession and the enormous amount of Pope Francis emotional psychic energy is used in reaching out to all people globally in nearly every situation in extraordinary effort to be inclusive of everyone, particularly those most forgotten and are in need of our help. Pope Francis has been relentless in this regard since his election to the papacy in March 2013.

As Church Shifts, a Cardinal Welcomes Gays; They Embrace a ‘Miracle’
The New York Times
June 13, 2017
NEWARK — The word “pilgrimage” usually evokes visions of far-off, exotic places, but for some 100 gay and lesbian Catholics and their families, a pilgrimage to the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart here on a recent Sunday was more like a homecoming.
The doors to the cathedral were opened to them, and they were welcomed personally by the leader of the Archdiocese of Newark, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin. They were seated on folding chairs at the cathedral’s center, in front of the altar in the towering sanctuary, under the blue-tinted glow of stained glass.
“I am Joseph, your brother,” Cardinal Tobin told the group, which included lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Catholics from around New York and the five dioceses in New Jersey. “I am your brother, as a disciple of Jesus. I am your brother, as a sinner who finds mercy with the Lord.”
The welcoming of a group of openly gay people to Mass by a leader of Cardinal Tobin’s standing in the Roman Catholic Church in this country would have been unthinkable even five years ago. But Cardinal Tobin, whom Pope Francis appointed to Newark last year, is among a small but growing group of bishops changing how the American church relates to its gay members. They are seeking to be more inclusive and signaling to subordinate priests that they should do the same…
Four years ago, Pope Francis shook the Catholic world with his comment about gay priests seeking the Lord: “Who am I to judge?” But it was unclear how his words would affect Catholics seeking acceptance in the pews…
But gestures like Cardinal Tobin’s are evidence that Pope Francis’ words are having an impact…

AUSCHWITZ -- CHRISTMAS 2008 -- A flashback far more severe than in --- BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN – December 26, 2008 – Fr. Marty Kurylowicz

I have been so saddened by Pope Benedict XVI's cruel words to LGBTQ people around the world, to their parents, families and friends, most ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN. After reading the accounts of this human travesty, I did not know where to find comfort or hope. And then I thought about your blog. And just like receiving a wonderful Christmas present, sure enough I found the hope and comfort I needed to hear. Photo

I am a priest and a clinical psychologist (MS). And for one of my research projects I chose to do a qualitative research project of the recorded verbal accounts of survivors of the Holocaust, 50 years after the event. It was a difficult research project, because I could not make sense of one of the accounts of the survivors.

For example, one survivor was describing what it was like riding the train to AUSCHWITZ, but he was describing how he was trying to make conversation with a girl on the train. I listened and wrote out this one account almost 30 times but I just was not getting it. I could not understand how this man could be talking about wanting to make conversation with this girl on the same train to AUSCHWITZ!?!

Because I had taught high school religion classes for nearly 20 years, it hit me hard, like a flash of lightning. Instantly, all the pieces came together, so fast. Though this survivor was in his late 60’s when he gave his account of his story on audiotape, he was remembering the events that took place, but naturally they were recounted through the mind of a teenager, the age he was on the train to AUSCHWITZ. That is why the dialogue wasn’t making any sense. I was thinking of him as an old man because the voice on the audiotape was the voice of a 68-year-old. As shocking as a bomb going off, all the different aspects of the psychological developmental stages of a teenager kicked in. I realized only too fully that he was just a young normal teenager on that train!!! And so was the girl he was trying to make conversation, and their moms and dads were there with them!!! There was no way to pretend I did not realize what I discovered. It kept hitting me: this is not some script from a movie or TV miniseries on the Holocaust. No; as much as I wished it were. The reality of this horror hit me all at once, on so many different levels of consciousness: what an unbelievable horror it was!!! How could we treat human beings like this! I remember when the realization of the magnitude of this horror first hit me, like an instant reflex. I threw down the transcript I was holding as if it were a blazing hot poker. It kept hitting me over and over again that this is not a movie script or some kind of play – this really happened! It really happened! Oh, my God, how could this have happened!?!!!

My supervisor told me at the time that I was traumatized by the oral content. Qualitative research is an attempt to understand the complexity of emotions, the kinds of emotions, and the degree of intensity involved. Our emotions are what allow us to connect with other human beings. We identify with the non-verbal quality of emotions more immediately and strongly than with the words used to express them. The non-verbal qualities include tone of voice, eye contact, facial expression, body posture, and gestures, all of which express emotions. Emotions are why we can connect with people through time, across cultures, and individually. It is the expression of human emotions in the arts that makes some works of art timeless, because they continually speak to all people through the ages.

And when I heard what Pope Benedict XVI said about homosexuals and transgendered human beings at Christmas 2008, I felt that same trauma all over again. Because in some way, somehow, he was conveying in a non-verbal manner the horror of the Holocaust, in what appears to be a traumatized, trance-like, accepted social norm from that period of time dictating that some people just don’t count, aren’t important, and can be easily disposed of. And if you rock the boat, you could be next to be disposed of.

I truly have to believe that a person in his position would not be doing this consciously or intentionally. The horror of the Holocaust is like an atomic bomb with fallout so extensive that it spreads over a radius of more than 150 miles. The horror of the Holocaust began in 1933 and ended in 1945. The psychological fallout would have been far more extensive and more deadly, especially when it is notidentified as such.

It hit me the way it did when I realized that the research I was doing about a Holocaust survivor, a man 68 years old telling his story, who was remembering what it was like to be on the train to AUSCHWITZ, from the perspective of a young teenage boy who just wanted to talk to a girl. It seemed like the same kind of horror, a tacit assumption that some people don't count and can be disposed of without remorse. Could it be that Benedict XVI is unconsciously repeating Hitler's crime against humanity by taking on a long-accepted social attitude from that period of time?

The question I asked myself was: what would it have been like for someone growing up gay during the Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933 -1945

What would be the severity of the psychological effects on a boy who grew up to be gay in Germany during the time of Hitler’s NAZI PERSECUTION OF HOMOSEXUALS 1933 -1945? During the Nazi regime, homosexuals were publicly defamed and falsely accused for the major social problems of that time, which was done to incite massive public hatred and hostility directed against homosexuals. Homosexuals were used for medical experiments, physically mutilated, brutally tortured and exterminated.

Would this child, as an adult, in a severe dissociated state of mind from his own homosexual feelings (Harry Stack Sullivan MD, Dissociative Processes, Clinical Studies on Psychiatry (1956)), unconsciously perpetuate the terrifying horror of the insensitivity he had experienced growing up? If he found himself in a position of authority would he recreate the same social and political environment of violence and terror for homosexuals that he experienced, as a child who grew up to be gay, during the NAZI PERSECUTION OF HOMOSEXUALS?

I think in truth on a much deeper level I was frightened, really frightened, to hear Pope Benedict XVI’s Christmas remarks against homosexuals and transgendered human beings and even more frightened by the silence from the larger global community of human beings. What is so frightening is, even if there is agreement that one person does not matter or is not important, in truth then no one matters. Therefore, when I thought about your blog and what you did on October 5, 2008, I felt more reassured, I felt hope, and I felt comforted. NOW, isn’t that the true meaning of Christmas?

God Bless you,

Fr. Marty Kurylowicz
