Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

A mature and a more thorough educated understanding of sexual orientation from a variety of academic disciplines of science, biblical studies and theology - will help to gave a more broader and unifying perspective  - to be able to view sexual orientation as not exclusively limited to sexual behavior - rather that it is about expressing and receiving the totality of the meaning of love and that we will find it is the binding force that though we are many it binds us all together as one. It is the key to understanding the reality of the words of Christ regarding the Last Judgment. It is the wonder of how God created us - a slice of heaven on earth.

The Last Judgment
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Matthew 25:31-46

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

When I was a child, I talked like a child,
I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
1 Corinthians 13:11

Therefore every teacher of the law
who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven
is like the owner of a house
who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.
Matthew 13:52

It vexes me when they would constrain science
by the authority of the Scriptures,
and yet do not consider
themselves bound to answer reason and experiment.

“Is the Pope Catholic?” suddenly a serious question - April 20, 2016

Too Late for An Easier, Softer Way? - April 8, 2016

Fr. Hans Kung says Francis responded to request for free discussion on infallibility dogma - April 26, 2016  Photo
Editor's note: Fr. Hans Küng, the Swiss theologian, says that he has received a letter from Pope Francis that responds "to my request to give room to a free discussion on the dogma of infallibility."
Küng declined to show the letter to NCR, citing "the confidentiality that I owe to the Pope," but he says the letter was dated March 20 and sent to him via the nunciature in Berlin shortly after Easter.
Küng says the letter shows that "Francis has set no restrictions" on the discussions.
Küng also said that he is very encouraged by Francis' recent apostolic exhortation, Amoris Laetitia ('The Joy of Love'), "I could not have foreseen then quite how much new freedom Francis would open up in his post-synodal exhortation," Kung wrote in statement released to NCR and other media outlets. "Already in the introduction, he declares, 'Not all discussions of doctrinal, moral or pastoral issues need to be settled by interventions of the magisterium.’”…

Francis: Love not theology or 'liturgical rubrics,' but 'has another way’ - April 27, 2016
…Jesus gives the parable in response to a question from a lawyer, who says he is following the commandment to love God and neighbor but asks: "Who is my neighbor?"
There's more to NCR than what you read online. Request a sample issue to see what you're missing!
Francis said the man "wants a clear rule that permits him to classify others as 'neighbor' and 'not neighbor,' who can become a neighbor and who cannot become a neighbor."
The parable, the pope says, gives a different response. He said it "teaches us that compassion, love is not a vague sentiment but means taking care of the other even at a personal cost.”…

CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF FAITH MUST END MEDIEVAL PRACTICES, POPE URGED BY ACCUSED - 20 April 2016
Investigation of accusations should be reformed and anonymous denunciations ended, high-profile signatories insist
An international group of bishops, nuns, priests and lay people, who have all been investigated by Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, have written to Pope Francis calling for a reform of the investigation process and specifically an end to anonymous denunciations.
…In their letter to the Pope, which was also sent to the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, Cardinal Gerhard Müller, the group warn that as the CDF acts as "investigator, accuser, judge and jury" the process cannot offer justice. The process is outdated and follows the "absolutism of sixteenth and seventeenth century Europe" as a model, the signatories said.
They suggest a new set of procedures that would require greater transparency and accountability while imposing a strict time limit on any investigation and direct personal face-to-face communication between the accused and the Vatican congregation. One of the signatories, Australian historian and author Paul Collins, said that the current process makes no presumption of innocence and those accused are never told who has accused them nor who is judging them. "They don't even know who their defence counsel is. They are usually never given a chance to defend themselves verbally and in person. Letters go unanswered for months or are 'lost'," he criticised.
The signatories highlight that those investigated by the CDF find the process completely draining, isolating and exhausting and this is often linked to CDF imposed exclusion from ministry. "It seems designed to wear you down psychologically. It is completely alien to the values of Christ and the gospels," Paul Collins said...

The Shift from Heteronomy to Autonomy

Curia’s and Hierarchy’s Morality - 30 Years

Heteronomous Morality (5-9yrs) - Jean Piaget
The stage of heteronomous morality is also known as moral realism – morality imposed from the outside. Children regard morality as obeying other people's rules and laws, which cannot be changed. They accept that all rules are made by some authority figure (e.g. parents, teacher, God), and that breaking the rules will lead to immediate and severe punishment (immanent justice). The function of any punishment is to make the guilty suffer in that the severity of the punishment should be related to severity of wrong-doing (expiatory punishment).
During this stage children consider rules as being absolute and unchanging, i.e. 'divine like'. They think that rules cannot be changed and have always been the same as they are now.
Behaviour is judged as “bad" in terms of the observable consequences, regardless on the intentions or reasons for that behaviour. Therefore, a large amount of accidental damage is viewed as worse than a small amount of deliberate damage…

Autonomous Morality - Jean Piaget
The stage of autonomous morality is also known as moral relativism – morality based on your own rules. Children recognize there is no absolute right or wrong and that morality depends on intentions not consequences.
Piaget believed that around the age of 9-10 children’s understanding of moral issues underwent a fundamental reorganisation. By now they are beginning to overcome the egocentrism of middle childhood and have developed the ability to see moral rules from other people’s point of view.
A child who can decentre to take other people’s intentions and circumstances into account can move to making the more independent moral judgements of the second stage. As a result children’s ideas on the nature of rules themselves, on moral responsibility and on punishment and justice all change and their thinking becomes more like that of adults…

Piaget's Social Theory
Rheta L. DeVries
University of Northern Iowa
…Piaget’s (1932/1965) description of sociomoral development was expressed as movement from anomy (non-regulation by others or the self) to heteronomy (regulation by others) to autonomy (self-regulation). He described two types of morality corresponding to two types of adult-child relationships, one that he believed to promote children's development in all domains and one that he believed to retard development.
The first type of morality is a morality of obedience. Piaget called this "heteronomous" morality, reflecting roots meaning regulation by others. Therefore, the individual who is heteronomously moral follows moral rules given by others out of obedience to an authority who has coercive power. Heteronomous morality means that the individual does not regulate his or her behavior by means of personal convictions. Rather, his or her activity is regulated by impulse or unthinking obedience
The second type of morality is autonomous, reflecting roots meaning self regulation. The individual who is autonomously moral follows moral rules that are self-constructed, self-regulating principles. These rules have a feeling of personal necessity for the individual. The individual who is autonomously moral follows internal convictions about the necessity of respect for persons in relationships with others. On a practical level, without belief that rises from personal conviction, children will not be likely to follow moral rules given ready-made by adults.
These two types of morality correspond, in Piaget's theory, to two types of adult-child relationships. The first type is one of coercion or constraint in which the adult prescribes what the child must do by giving ready-made rules and instructions for behavior. In this relation, respect is a one-way affair…the child's reason for behaving is thus outside his or her own reasoning and system of personal interests and values. Piaget calls this type of relation "heteronomous." …Heteronomy can range on a continuum from hostile and punitive to sugar-coated control. According to this view, when children are governed continually by the values, beliefs, and ideas of others, they practice a submission that can lead to mindless conformity in both moral and intellectual life…In Piaget's view, a life dominated by the rules of others through a morality of obedience will never lead to the kind of reflection necessary for commitment to internal or autonomous principles of moral judgment…
Piaget contrasted the heteronomous adult-child relationship with a
second type that is characterized by mutual respect and cooperation. The adult returns children's respect by giving them the possibility to regulate their behavior voluntarily. This type of relation Piaget called "cooperative." He argued that it is only by refraining from exercising unnecessary coercion that the adult opens the way for children to develop minds capable of thinking independently and creatively and to develop moral feelings and convictions that take into account the best interests of all parties. The method by which this relationship operates is co-operation. Piaget hyphenated this word when he wanted to emphasize the etymological root meaning. Co-operating means striving to attain a common goal while coordinating one's own feelings and perspective with a consciousness of another's feelings and perspective…

Jean Piaget - Heteronomous Phase
…This phase, more common among children, is characterized by the idea that rules come from authority figures in one's life such as parents, teachers, and God. It also involves the idea that rules are permanent no matter what. Thirdly, this phase of moral development includes the belief that "naughty" behavior must always be punished and that the punishment will be proportional.

Jean Piaget - Autonomous Phase
…The second phase in Piaget's theory of moral development is referred to as the Autonomous Phase. This phase is more common after one has matured and is no longer a child. In this phase people begin to view the intentions behind actions as more important than their consequences. For instance, if a person who is driving swerves in order to not hit a dog and then knocks over a road sign, adults are likely to be less angry at the person than if he or she had done it on purpose just for fun. Even though the outcome is the same, people are more forgiving because of the good intention of saving the dog. This phase also includes the idea that people have different morals and that morality is not necessarily universal. People in the Autonomous Phase also believe rules may be broken under certain circumstances. For instance, Rosa Parks broke the law by refusing to give up her seat on a bus, which was against the law but something many people consider moral nonetheless. In this phase people also stop believing in the idea of immanent justice.

Rosa Parks Biography
Civil Rights Activist (1913–2005)
Civil rights activist Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus spurred a city-wide boycott. The city of Montgomery had no choice but to lift the law requiring segregation on public buses. Rosa Parks received many accolades during her lifetime, including the NAACP's highest award…

Jean Piaget - Stages of Moral Development:
…Based upon his theory of cognitive development, Piaget stated that moral reasoning takes place through-out stages that children pass at certain approximate ages. (Piaget, 1932). The first stage is known as the premoral judgment and starts from birth till 5 years and coincides with the pre-operational stage of Piaget's cognitive theory. According to him, children begin in a "heteronomous" stage of moral reasoning, because their cognitive structure is characterized by egocentrism i.e. young children have a poor conception of other people's consciousnesses and are unable to take into account their own view of things with the perspective of someone else’s.
As a result, it is impossible for them to have a sense of morality or understand the concept of rules. Their thinking is based on how actions affect them or what the result of an action is i.e. consequences rather than the motivation behind them. Moreover, since children’s first exposure to social rules are commands handed down by parents or other authority figures, they view them as fixed laws. This relative powerlessness of young children results in a strict adherence to rules and obedience to authority.
The second stage is called moral realism, which lasts from the age of 5 to 10 years and corresponds to the concrete operational stage of Piaget’s cognitive theory. Children at this stage understand the concept of rules, but still see them as external and rigid. They evaluate wrongdoing in terms of its consequences, not intentions, and obey rules mainly because they are there. They recognize the sanctity of rules and that they have to play by them and cannot make up new ones to a game.
Piaget called this, "moral realism with objective responsibility" i.e. being concerned with outcomes rather than intentions of an action or valuing the letter of the law above the purpose of the law. Moral realism is also associated with a child's expectation that punishment automatically follows acts of wrongdoing. (Harris, 2002)
The third and final stage is called moral relativism and begins at about 10 years onwards. It coincides with the formal operational stage in Piaget's cognitive theory, during which children are able to carry out complex thought processes, first on concrete examples, and then abstract concepts.
Children now develop a more flexible view of moral issues and begin forming their own internal morality, which is different from external rules. They progress to an "autonomous" stage of moral reasoning, where they learn that rules are social conventions governed by mutual consent and that it is permissible to break or alter them without being punished. (Harris, 2002). They start to critically examine rules, determining whether they are fair or not, and applying them to other situations based on mutual respect and cooperation. Actions are now evaluated more in terms of their intentions and motives behind them than their consequences. In short, there is a shift in the child's cognitive structure from egocentrism to perspective taking.
Thus according to Piaget, morality and moral development cannot be inculcated into children through dictates of parents and teachers; it is through active relationship and involvement with peers that children develop moral concepts (Nucci, 1997)…

Moral realism - is associated with "objective responsibility", which is valuing the letter of the law above the purpose of the law.
This is why young children are more concerned about the outcomes of actions rather than the intentions of the person doing the act.

Secret Letter Allegedly Sent To Pope Francis By Conservative Cardinals Fuels Speculations At Vatican Synod - 10/12/15
…In the letter, the senior churchmen said that if the reformers succeeded in changing the church’s approach to modern families it could send the Catholic Church down the path of Protestant denominations that abandoned “key elements of Christian belief and practice in the name of pastoral adaptation.”
…The mystery also fueled intrigue about the three-week meeting, called a synod. It also spotlighted increasingly bold efforts by traditionalists to thwart any changes to church doctrine or practices, in particular proposals to allow divorced and remarried Catholics to receive Communion.
…as well as efforts to make the church more open to cohabiting couples and gays and lesbians — has become a focus and flashpoint for the wide-ranging synod of 270 bishops from around the world.
…This fall’s gathering follows a previous synod that Francis convened here last October as part of his effort to foster dialogue within the hierarchy and to discuss possible reforms to pastoral practices (though not necessarily doctrines) that could make the church more welcoming and inclusive.
Yet raising the specter of any change set off alarm bells for conservatives who have been lobbying fiercely, in public and behind the scenes, to ensure that the synod acts to remove any doubts about the possibility of changing church teachings or policies…

Opposition to Pope Francis Comes Out of the Closet - December 4, 2015
…First up is Cardinal Raymond Burke’s recent op-ed in the National Catholic Register. The flamboyant cardinal uses the old trick of attacking someone close to the pope, rather than the pope directly, in this instance, Father Antonio Spadaro, S.J. Fr. Spadaro had written that the synod opened a door toward the divorced and remarried. +Burke replies: “The fact is that the synod could not open a door which does not exist and cannot exist, namely, a discernment in conscience which contradicts the truth about the supreme sanctity of the Most Holy Eucharist and the indissolubility of the marriage bond.” Who said anything about “contradicting” the truth? The contradiction – and it is only an apparent one to us poor humans who have more theological work to do – is between “the truth” about marriage and the Eucharist and “the truth” about God’s mercy and, relatedly, “the truth” about the practice of our sister Churches of the East. But, Cardinal Burke expects everyone to use his lens, his weighting of the issues, his sense of what is, and is not, possible. Someone needs to tell him that he was not elected pope in 2013…

Cardinals publicly battling over divorce -September 18, 2014
VATICAN CITY – The battle lines are being drawn before a major church meeting on family issues that represents a key test for Pope Francis.
Five high-ranking cardinals have taken one of Francis’ favorite theologians to task over an issue dear to the pope’s heart: Whether Catholics who divorce and remarry without an annulment can receive Communion.
They have written a book, “Remaining in the Truth of Christ,” to rebut German Cardinal Walter Kasper, whom Francis praised in his first Sunday blessing after he was elected pope as “a great theologian” and subsequently entrusted with the setting the tone for the two-year study on marriage, divorce, and family life that the Vatican will open Oct. 5…
The outcry that ensued has turned the 81-year-old Kasper into the biggest lightning rod for internal debate that the Catholic Church has seen in some time.
Conservatives, including the five cardinal authors, have vehemently opposed Kasper’s suggestion as contrary to Christ’s teaching on the indissolubility of marriage.
…Francis has asserted church doctrine on the matter but has called for a more merciful, pastoral approach: He reportedly told an Argentine woman earlier this year that she was free to receive Communion even though her husband’s first marriage was never annulled. Knowing the issue is divisive, though, he has convened the whole church to debate the issue.
The new book asserts there really is no better solution – and no grounds to argue for it citing the practice of the ancient church – since Catholic doctrine is clear. The authors include two of the highest-ranking Vatican officials, both appointed by Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI, a great friend to conservatives and traditionalists: Cardinal Gerhard Mueller, head of the Vatican’s doctrine office, and Cardinal Raymond Burke, the American head of the Vatican’s supreme court.
“These are not a series of rules made up by the church; they constitute divine law, and the church cannot change them,” the book says. Kasper’s assertions, reading of history and suggestions for debate “reinforce misleading understandings of both fidelity and mercy.”…

Gay Catholics Will Be Silenced During Pope Francis' Philadelphia Visit: Archbishop - June 25, 2015

Conservative dissent is brewing inside the Vatican - September 7, 2015
VATICAN CITY — On a sunny morning earlier this year, a camera crew entered a well-appointed apartment just outside the 9th-century gates of Vatican City. Pristinely dressed in the black robes and scarlet sash of the princes of the Roman Catholic Church, Wisconsin-born Cardinal Raymond Burke sat in his elaborately upholstered armchair and appeared to issue a warning to Pope Francis.
A staunch conservative and Vatican bureaucrat, Burke had been demoted by the pope a few months earlier, but it did not take the fight out of him. Francis had been backing a more inclusive era, giving space to progressive voices on divorced Catholics as well as gays and lesbians. In front of the camera, Burke said he would “resist” liberal changes — and seemed to caution Francis about the limits of his authority. “One must be very attentive regarding the power of the pope,” Burke told the French news crew…
[Burke states] “We have a serious issue right now, a very alarming situation where Catholic priests and bishops are saying and doing things that are against what the church teaches, talking about same-sex unions, about Communion for those who are living in adultery,” the official said. “And yet the pope does nothing to silence them. So the inference is that this is what the pope wants.”…

In letter to CDF, theologians and bishops call for reform of Vatican doctrinal investigations - April 19, 2016
VATICAN CITY A group of prominent global Catholic theologians, priests and bishops who have been criticized by the Vatican's chief doctrinal office have come together to call for a new process for theological investigations in the church that would be marked by openness and transparency instead of deep secrecy.
In a letter sent to the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith last month, the theologians argue that current procedures for investigations -- characterized often by a lack of adequate defense or possibility of appeal -- are "contrary to natural justice and in need of reform."
The writers sharply criticize current practice. They say that current norms are outdated and follow a model based on "the absolutism of sixteenth and seventeenth century Europe." They identify that:

The person under investigation is not allowed to meet or speak to their accusers;

The doctrinal office often acts as "investigator, accuser, judge and jury" and also imposes any penalties and hears any appeals;

The accused is often not in direct contact with the Vatican -- the doctrinal office rather works through the person's religious superior or bishop, and;

Procedures can "drag on for years, with sometimes negative consequences for the mental and physical health of the accused."

The last point carries special significance, as many who have been investigated by the Vatican describe the process as particularly debilitating.
Jesuit Fr. Gerald O'Collins, who assisted famed Belgian Jesuit Fr. Jacques Dupuis with a doctrinal inquiry that continued for three years, has said the stress of the process led to a hospital stay and perhaps even an early death for Dupuis…

Vatican Says Rumors About Pope's Health Are Attempt To Undermine Him - October 22, 2015

From Rome, NPR'S Sylvia Poggioli reports:
The suggestion that the tumor report was part of a plot against Pope Francis was put forth by the official Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano. It wrote, "the timing of the claim reveals there was an intent to manipulate and cause a dust storm of confusion."
"Cardinal Walter Kasper said it was part of an effort to undermine the bishops' assembly…

In the last 50 years a pope has not been criticised so brazenly
13 November 2014
US bloggers and “culture warriors” – even the now-former Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, Cardinal Burke – have publicly laid into Pope Francis in the media, criticising the calling and content of last month’s Extraordinary Synod on the Family.
In language similar to that of Bernard Fellay’s, the head of traditionalist Society of St Pius X, who said the Synod had opened “the gates of hell”, Cardinal Burke went further and likened the Church under Pope Francis’s leadership to “a ship without a rudder”...
I appreciate that some bishops who are criticising Pope Francis’ leadership passed the litmus test for their appointments under Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. But I do not think that US culture warriors should publicly criticise Pope Francis, who is not only restoring episcopal collegiality but the scriptural based notion of God’s “infinite love and mercy” rather than just man-made Pharisaic and poorly drafted canon law.

VATICAN CITY (RNS) The Vatican on Wednesday (Oct. 21) categorically denied a story from an Italian news agency that Pope Francis has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, calling the report “unfounded” and “seriously irresponsible…
The scoop was quickly called into question, in part because the story provided so few details and because the Vatican has been swirling with rumors this month during an intense and contentious debate over church teachings among 270 bishops gathered for a global synod on the family.
The synod has featured unusually open arguments and no small amount of public sniping among churchmen, as well as revelations of a secret letter to the pope and accusations of behind-the-scenes “rigging” and “manipulation.”…

Pope lectures Catholic elders at closing of synod on family - October 25, 2015

…But there were limits. Bishop Johan Bonny of Antwerp, Belgium, said that when he raised the idea in his working group at the synod that committed same-sex relationships could have spiritual value, “bad feelings came up.”
In the end, he said he was pleased that the synod did not delve deeper into the issue of homosexuality.
“That is a point for next time,” he said. “Better to leave it for later than discuss it in a hot and bad atmosphere.”

Catholicism can and must change, Francis forcefully tells Italian church gathering - November 10, 2015
FLORENCE, ITALY Pope Francis has strongly outlined anew a comprehensive vision for the future of the Catholic church, forcefully telling an emblematic meeting of the entire Italian church community here that our times require a deeply merciful Catholicism that is unafraid of change
Francis said Catholics must realize: "We are not living an era of change but a change of era."
"Before the problems of the church it is not useful to search for solutions in conservatism or fundamentalism in the restoration of obsolete conduct and forms that no longer have the capacity of being significant culturally," the pontiff said at one point during his remarks.
"Christian doctrine is not a closed system incapable of generating questions, doubts, interrogatives -- but is alive, knows being unsettled, enlivened," said the pope. "It has a face that is not rigid, it has a body that moves and grows, it has a soft fleshit is called Jesus Christ."
"The reform of the church then, and the church is semper reformanda  ... does not end in the umpteenth plan to change structures," he continued. "It means instead grafting yourself to and rooting yourself in Christ, leaving yourself to be guided by the Spirit -- so that all will be possible with genius and creativity.”…
"A new humanism in Jesus Christ…”

Pope Francis continues his critique of religious fundamentalism - Dec. 3, 2015
…”In the Catholic church we have some -- many -- who believe they possess the absolute truth and they go on sullying others through slander and defamation and this is wrong. Religious fundamentalism must be combated. It is not religious, God is lacking, it is idolatrous.” http://ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/pope-francis-continues-his-critique-religious-fundamentalism

Pope’s Press Conference on Flight from Bangui to Rome (Unofficial Transcript) - Nov. 30, 2015
…We are all children of God, we have the same father. And in this sense one must make a politics of unity, or reconciliation, and – though I do not like the word, but I must use it –tolerance. So, fundamentalism is an illness that is in all religions.
We Catholics have them, not a few but many, who think they have the absolute truth, and they go ahead throwing mud on others with calumny, defamation, and they do harm. I can say this because it is my church: also we, and we all. One must fight, because religious fundamentalism is not religious. Why? Because it lacks God. It is idolatry, just as money is idolatry. To do politics in the sense of convincing the people that have this tendency is a politics that we religious leaders must do. But fundamentalism that always ends in a tragedy or in crimes is a bad thing, but a piece of it comes in all religions…

Pope Francis at Mass: Love and justice are more important than attachment to the laws - 31/10/14
...This way of life of being attached to the laws, distanced them from love and from justice.  They followed the laws and they neglected justice.  They followed the laws and they neglected love.  They were the models.  And for these people Jesus had only one word (to describe them): hypocrites...
...This is the path that Jesus teaches us, totally opposite to that of the doctors of law. And it’s this path from love and justice that leads to God.  Instead, the other path, of being attached only to the laws, to the letter of the laws, leads to closure, leads to egoism.  The path that leads from love to knowledge and discernment, to total fulfilment, leads to holiness, salvation and the encounter with Jesus. Instead, the other path leads to egoism, the arrogance of considering oneself to be in the right, to that so-called holiness of appearances, right?...

Pope at Santa Marta: God goes to the limit so no one should be lost - 6 November 2014
..."Being a half-way shepherd - Pope Francis said - is a defeat". "A shepherd must have the heart of God, go to the very limit" because he does not want anyone to be lost:
"The true shepherd, the true Christian has this zeal within: no one should be lost. And this is why they are not afraid to get his hands dirty. He is not afraid. He goes where he needs to go. He risks his life, he risks his reputation, he risks losing his comforts, his status, even lose his ecclesiastical career as well, but he is the Good Shepherd. Even Christians have to be this way. It is so easy to condemn others, as they [the Pharisees] did - the tax collectors and sinners - it's so easy, but it is not Christian! It is not [the attitude of] the children of God. The Son of God goes to the very limit, the giver of life, as Jesus gave his for others. He cannot be content, keeping to himself: his comfort, his reputation, his peace of mind. Remember this: no half-way shepherds, never! No half-way Christians, never!,,,

The biggest unreported synod influence: human experience
Oct. 30, 2014 - Eugene Cullen Kennedy
...Besides offering his fellow cardinals a model of how to get transferred to Malta, Cardinal Burke, who loves to drape himself in the trailing yards of crimson silk of the old church's cappa magna, claims to be fighting for the integrity of church teaching in a world that irritates him by now being more sympathetic to homosexuals than to the vanished glory of the cappa magna.
Burke provides a sad example of a churchman who doesn't get or simply overrides the theological wisdom of human experience. By insisting that homosexuality is "intrinsically disordered," he aligns himself with other church leaders who have no clinical or theological basis for making such a judgment. Indeed, he employs a philosophical category that does not fit the human dignity of homosexual men and women.
...We can be thankful to Cardinal Burke for providing us with the contrast needed to see the understanding of human personality that may be the hallmark of Francis' papacy as well as of the synod on the family. The crimson-wrapped Burke is headed for exile on an island, the fate of a faux Napoleon who, thanks to the Peter Principle, has reached the level that matches his ignorance about and fear of homosexuals. He vindicates the sensible judgments tested by human experience while revealing how out of sync he is with the church he claims to defend...

Cardinals Attack 'People's Pope' With Familiar Wingnut Tactics 11/04/14
...Burke is, to me, the worst kind of Church prelate, known not only for his rigid views on abortion and gays and his willingness to aid the Republican right wing, but for his love of the kind of gaudier ceremonial frippery most cardinals had the taste to leave behind a half-century ago. (All for the greater glory of God, I'm sure.)...
As an authoritarian, of course, he was not so quick to address the sexual abuse scandal. As the National Catholic Reporter noted last month:...

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin defends Pope Francis from Cardinal Burke - November 6, 2014
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has a message for the conservative clerics loudly criticizing Pope Francis in the press – don’t be afraid, the sky isn’t falling...
Archbishop Martin said he was “quite surprised at the remarks of some commentators within church circles about the recent Synod of Bishops, often making accusations of confusion where such confusion did not exist and so actually fomenting confusion.”
...But Archbishop Martin scoffed at Burke’s claim. During a mass at the Dublin Institute of Technology this week Martin questioned how strong the faith of the pope’s critics can be can be if they are so threatened by discussions about groups they usually prefer to condemn?
Archbishop Martin said he believed that “a longing for certainties may spring from personal uncertainty rather than strong faith.”
“A strong – and indeed orthodox faith – is never afraid of discussion,” he added...

Curia’s and Hierarchy’s Morality - 30 Years

 H E T E R O N O M O U S    vs    A U T O N O M O U S

There is a common thread of extreme violence disguised as love and believed by the perpetrators who are members of the curia to be love, deemed by God. For the past 30 years, this disguised violence as grown and spread out to members of the hierarchy - infecting the seminaries and then onto members of the laity. This disguised violence is easily identifiable,  in a person - because normally hidden below the surface - it remains emotionally charged 24/7 at the same level of intensity throughout the life of this person - though when provoked it instantly raises to the surface fiercely denouncing the sexual orientation of homosexuality. Photo

Having been a victim, myself, of this ongoing violence for the past 19 years, since March 1997 for coming out for the protection of children growing up gay or bisexual, as young as 4 and 5 years of age, from the lifelong harmful influence of unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms - I have been well aware of the covert nature, the type and degree of intensity of this violence. Normally behind closed doors in "private meetings" numerous tactics of coercion are used to force compliance to silence any open discussion on the science or scriptural interpretations of homosexuality and to avoid any public oversight, as I have experienced on two occasions 1997, 2008, however, never is there any explanation or educated rationale given. These clandestine meetings are not only illicit, but there is a definite nature of immaturity that is pervasive and seemly collectively condoned among the members of the curia and hierarchy. Why all the secrecy? Truth is truth, if you are convinced about having truth, why the necessity to be obsessively secretive about it? Why all this “cat and mouse” behavioral? It is childish. Unless, on some level of consciousness you are not convinced that you have the truth about homosexuality.

It was not until this organizational culture of immaturity of the curia began imploding, as noted in the Vatileaks 2012 and after the election of Pope Francis, especially their explosive reaction against the midterm report of the Synod session 2014 - Welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving and committed relationships that was sustaining to forcefully prevent the continuation of this open discussion at the Synod session of 2015 that they had publicly blown their covert cover exposing their violent antigay behavior. Equally, revealing was the fact that they were unabashed by the immaturity of their forceful public statements in that they completely lack offering any supporting substantiating data.

HETERONOMOUS MORALITY
Unnatural Suppression - Child's Sexual Orientation

There is a common thread of extreme violence that is disguised as love and believed by the perpetrators who are members of the curia - to be love, deemed by God. For the past 30 years, this disguised form of violence has grown and spread out to members of the hierarchy - infecting the seminaries and then onto members of the laity. This type of violence is the direct result of the lifelong harmful influences caused to children, as young as 4 and 5 years of age, in their early childhood psychological developmental years growing up gay or bisexual by the unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms. It is the result of the implicit and or explicit forms of the unnatural suppression of a child's sexual orientation, which are all severe forms child abuse.

The symptoms (i.e. depression, narcissism, inability of form lifelong meaningful relationships, etc.) that once were used to classify homosexuality as a mental disorder have been proven to be, nearly 6 decades ago, not to be the cause of homosexuality but instead caused by the unnatural suppression of a child’s gay sexual orientation. These are the some of the same symptoms that Pope Francis listed as the ills of the Roman curia on December 22, 2014 (http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2014/12/22/pope_francis_christmas_greetings_to_curia/1115668).

Understanding Sexual Orientation
American Psychological Association
Sexual orientation refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions to men, women or both sexes…Research over several decades has demonstrated that sexual orientation ranges along a continuum, from exclusive attraction to the other sex to exclusive attraction to the same sex. However, sexual orientation is usually discussed in terms of three categories: heterosexual (having emotional, romantic or sexual attractions to members of the other sex), gay/lesbian (having emotional, romantic or sexual attractions to members of one's own sex) and bisexual (having emotional, romantic or sexual attractions to both men and women). This range of behaviors and attractions has been described in various cultures and nations throughout the world…
…sexual orientation is defined in terms of relationships with others…sexual orientation is closely tied to the intimate personal relationships that meet deeply felt needs for loveattachment and intimacy. In addition to sexual behaviors, these bonds include nonsexual physical affection between partners, shared goals and values, mutual support, and ongoing commitment.…

Sexual Orientation & Attachment

What scientific research has proven over the past 60 years, just as sure as it determined 400 years ago that it is earth that revolves around the sun - is that the sexual orientation of a person whether heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual is a normal, natural and vital involuntary life sustaining function of a human being. Sexual orientation is solely involved with the most basic human need - the need to be loved, to love and to feel one with another. Sexual orientation is expressed through the interpersonal relationship process of human attachment, which is the child’s ability to develop basic trust in his or her caregivers and self.

It is through this crucial emotional developmental process of the parent-child relationship that the child is learning how to form and interact in human relationships that will service as a template - for how the child will relate and interact in all the child’s future relationships throughout the child’s lifetime. During the early childhood years growing up - it is more clearer to understand how the intrinsic nature of sexual orientation is whether gay, bisexual or heterosexual is solely related to the ongoing emotional development of the most basic human need that we cannot live without, which is - love, learning how to connect, relate and form - lifelong fulfilling relationships.

Attachment theory
The most important tenet of attachment theory is that an infant needs to develop a relationship with at least one primary caregiver for the child's successful social and emotional development, and in particular for learning how to effectively regulate their feelings…

Bowlby's Attachment Theory
Around the age of three these seem to become part of a child’s personality and thus affects their understanding of the world and future interactions with others (Schore, 2000).  According to Bowlby (1969) the primary caregiver acts as a prototype for future relationships via the internal working model.
There are three main features of the internal working model: (1) a model of others as being trustworthy, (2) a model of the self as valuable, and (3) a model of the self as effective when interacting with others.
It is this mental representation that guides future social and emotional behavior as the child’s internal working model guides their responsiveness to others in general…

Sexual Orientation & Autonomic Nervous System

The enduring emotional nature of sexual orientation is about the most basic of all human emotions - love. In fact, from an psychoanalytic perspective it is understood that “love relates to all the other affects like white light to all colors (http://www.ibrarian.net/navon/paper/Chapter_8__Psychoanalytic_Approaches_to_Trauma__A.pdf?paperid=16436404).” Because of this enduring emotional nature of sexual orientation means that sexual orientation is not a stagnant label or term or that it is a choice, but that it is a continuous fully operative bodily function. What it means is that the continuous functioning of our sexual orientation, like the continuous functioning of our breathing and the our hearts beating - they are under the control of the autonomic nervous systems. “When it comes to emotion, all roads lead to the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Whether it is the generation, expression, experience, or recognition of emotion, the role of the ANS is critical (http://conium.org/~ucbpl/docs/10.1177_1754073913512003.pdf).”
The bodily functions that are under the control of the autonomic nervous systems - means that they are not under our conscious control. They function involuntary and reflexively. However, their continuous functioning is crucial to keeping us alive. They are our survival mechanism, because - we cannot live without breathing or our hearts beating or exist without love and any impairment to these functions will shorten our lifespan.

Sexual orientation (bisexual, homosexual and heterosexual) - functions automatically and continuously throughout life - as part of the autonomic nervous system - like breathing, or the heart beating, they functions unconsciously meaning we do not have think about breathing that we need to take a breath. A research study, at Cornell University found that measurements of pupil dilation taken while study participants viewed erotic videos of people they found attractive - was a robust indicator of - a person’s sexual orientation and of the activation of the autonomic nervous system. The results of bisexual men was of significant importance in this new study that revealed they had substantial pupil dilations to sexual videos of both men and women.

Autonomic nervous system
The autonomic nervous system is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions such as the heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, urination, and sexual arousal…

The Eyes Have It: Sex and Sexual Orientation Differences in Pupil Dilation Patterns - August 3. 2012
…pupil dilation to stimuli indicates activation of the autonomic nervous system. This system is associated with many automatic processes such as perspiration, digestion, blood pressure, and heart rate. For this reason, pupil dilation has been used as indicator of automatic response, for example, in studies of implicit reaction and cognitive load. Other research suggests that pupil dilation can reflect automatic attention, or attention that is likely not in the conscious control of participants. It is therefore unlikely that participants suppress pupil dilation to stimuli they are sexually attracted to. Pupil dilation patterns could therefore reflect, with high sensitivity, automatic attention related to sexual attraction and sexual orientation…

Sexual Orientation & Turn-Blue-In-The-Face

Even if we attempt to hold our breaths till we turn-blue-in-the-face our bodies will override our efforts and force us to begin breathing again (http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/spells.html).

Turn blue while holding your breath
When the oxygen levels in our blood drop, that blood turns a darker shade of red. Now, if you hold your breath long enough so that the oxygen level in your blood drops to about 80 percent of what it normally is, you’d start looking bluish. This is due to the way our tissues absorb and reflect back light.
Obviously, you can’t hold your breath long enough for your oxygen levels to drop to the required level. You’d pass out long before the oxygen level in your blood dropped low enough to make you turn blue. And at that point, you’d automatically start breathing again…

This is also true that we cannot permanently - suppress the continuous functioning of our sexual orientation, just like breathing our bodies will override our efforts to do this. Research studies have shown that male individuals can be mentally dissociated, in varying degrees of severity from being consciously aware of the reality of their gay or bisexual sexual orientation. However, the research reveals that physically - the biological nature of sexual orientation is not under our conscious control, as stated above, - it is under the control of autonomic nervous systems - it never stops operating - just like breathing or hearts beating. The functioning of our individual sexual orientation never skips a beat.

Update: 4/21/16

This helps to account for the curia and hierarchy 30 years obsessive antigay crusade and their never ending concern about gay adult pornography. If sexual orientation was under our conscious control, and not under the control of autonomic nervous systems - then curia and hierarchy would be considered responsible adults - who through extensive education on the science of homosexuality would have graduated from a heteronomous morality to an autonomous morality (Piaget's stages moral development). They would not be so fiercely emotionally adverse to any open discussion on the science and biblical interpretation on the subject of gay people.

Research studies have shown that male individuals can be mentally dissociated, in varying degrees of severity from being consciously aware of the reality of the functioning of their gay or bisexual sexual orientation, however, physically - the biological nature of sexual orientation is under the control of autonomic nervous systems.

Is Homophobia Associated With Homosexual Arousal? 1996
…The results of this study indicate that individuals who score in the homophobic range and admit negative affect toward homosexuality demonstrate significant sexual arousal to male homosexual erotic stimuli…                                                          Photo

Many intensely antigay public male adults may be severely dissociated from the reality of their gay or bisexual sexual orientation. However, their obsessiveness is not unlike the fierce and sustaining antigay public demonstration by the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy to the Synod on Family 2014 - 2015 - welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving committed relationships. This fact has been proven publicly endlessly when male politicians, male church leaders and the like - who speak out so obsessively and fiercely against gay people, only to be found in public restrooms having anonymous sex with men or are found traveling with a gay escort.

The Closet: Psychological Issues of Being In and Coming Out October 1, 2014 - By Jack Drescher, MD
Dissociation
What psychological mechanisms facilitate separating one's sexual identity from the rest of one's persona? Sullivan's (1956) concept of dissociation may be illuminating, particularly its most common aspect: selective inattention. A ubiquitous, nonpathological process, selective inattention makes life more manageable, like tuning out the background noise on a busy street. However, through dissociation of anxiety-provoking knowledge about the self, a whole double life can be lived and yet, in some ways, not be known. Clinical presentations of closeted gay people may lie somewhere in severity between selective inattention--most commonly seen in the case of homosexually self-aware patients thinking about "the possibility" that they might be gay--to more severe dissociation--in which any hint of same-sex feelings resides totally out of conscious awareness. More severe forms of dissociation are commonly observed in married men who are homosexually self-aware but cannot permit the thought of themselves as gay (Roughton, 2002)…

Sexual Orientation - Curia & Hierarchy
Dissociated Homosexual Arousal - Groupthink

The fact is that a person who is severely dissociated from the reality of their gay or bisexual sexual orientation - is unaware that he is. Though he has been able to suppress the truth about being gay or bisexual from himself - it remains observable to others. This nearly lack of awareness - is an indication that this severe dissociation took place back in his early childhood years growing up and was a direct cause by the very same unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms that he is obsessively promoting publicly - that wrongly believes being gay or bisexual is choice. He is reenacting the same severe form of child abuse that he was victimized  by as a child. It is difficult to breakout of this generational self-perpetuating of violence.

It is even extremely more difficult if you are a members of closed and isolated group of the same type of celibate men known as the curia and hierarchy, who “…believe unquestioningly in the inherent morality of their ingroup.  To the extreme end, this belief could incline the members to ignore the ethical or moral consequences of their decisions (http://web.stanford.edu/group/scie/Career/Wisdom/groupthink1.htm).” The consequences of Groupthink can and have been fatal disasters responsible for millions of lives of innocent adults and children. The same will be written about the Roman curia and hierarchy - in their deadly treatment of gay adults and gay children, which thy publicly demonstrated during the Synod on Family 2014 - 2015. They were hostilely unwilling to dialogue or to consider any of the science on homosexuality accumulated over the past 6 decades.

March 4, 2008 - Children Growing-up Gay & Vatican's Impact Harmful -GROUPTHINK - Fr. Marty Kurylowicz

GROUPTHINK - Symptoms
Groupthink is a psychological terminology used to describe the mode of thinking that persons engage in when concurrence-seeking becomes so dominant in a cohesive ingroup that it tends to override realistic appraisal of alternative courses of action.  It refers to a deterioration in mental efficiency, reality testing and moral judgments as a result of group pressures…
The groupthink type of conformity tends to increase as group cohesiveness increases.  Groupthink involves nondeliberate suppression of critical thoughts as a result of internalization of the group's norms.  The more cohesive the group, the greater the inner compulsion on each individual to avoid creating disunity, which inclines him/her to believe in the soundness of whatever proposals are promoted by the leader or by a majority of the group's members…

Pope Francis faces an uphill climb to get the synod he wants - October 3, 2015
…This synod is actually round two of a process that began last October with a first summit on the family. Back then, fierce debate broke out over homosexuality, the pastoral care of divorced Catholics, and what to make of other “irregular” relationships.
The hope had been that the year between the first synod and the second one might allow time to cool those tensions and find common ground, but there’s not a great deal of evidence that things have played out that way.
Instead, there seems to be a mounting tendency on all sides to suspect skullduggery and underhanded tactics.
…If these opening salvos are any indication, the synod may be defined not just by disagreements on substance, but also suspicions of Machiavellian maneuvers along the way. That’s not exactly a prescription for meeting in the middle.
More basically, the emotional intensity of the synod is amped up because of perceptions that the pope’s position is still a work in progress.
Whenever topics such as homosexuality and divorce are on the docket, feelings will run strong. What’s new now is a sense, however exaggerated, that movement might actually be possible. That’s elicited strong passions both from those who see such movement as desirable, and those who view it as alarming…

Pope lectures Catholic elders at closing of synod on family - October 25, 2015
VATICAN CITY…In a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica… - Francis seemed to target narrowness, focusing his homily on the biblical story of a blind man named Bartimaeus whom Jesus engages during a journey.
“None of the disciples stopped, as Jesus did,” Francis said in what at times appeared to be a scolding tone.
He continued, “if Bartimaeus was blind, they were deaf. His problem was not their problem. This can be a danger for us. In the face of constant problems, it is better to move on, instead of letting ourselves be bothered. In this way, just like the disciples, we are with Jesus but we do not think like him.”
“We can speak about him, work for him, but still live far from his heart which is focused on those who are wounded,” the pontiff said. “This is the temptation of the spirituality of mirage.”
He added, “A faith that does not know how to grow roots into the lives of people stays barren. And instead of an oasis, it creates more deserts.”
…This year, homosexuality became less a focus than divorce. But some conservative bishops argued that the synod was being hijacked by liberals…
Africans more generally, he said, had far bigger problems …
…But there were limits. Bishop Johan Bonny of Antwerp, Belgium, said that when he raised the idea in his working group at the synod that committed same-sex relationships could have spiritual value, “bad feelings came up.”
In the end, he said he was pleased that the synod did not delve deeper into the issue of homosexuality.

Groupthink - Case studies - Politics and military
Groupthink can have a strong hold on political decisions and military operations, which may result in enormous wastage of human and material resources. Highly qualified and experienced politicians and military commanders sometimes make very poor decisions when in a suboptimal group setting. Scholars such as Janis and Raven attribute political and military fiascoes, such as the Bay of Pigs Invasion, Vietnam War, and the Watergate scandal, to the effect of groupthink. More recently, Dina Badie argued that groupthink was largely responsible for the shift in the U.S. administration's view on Saddam Hussein that eventually led to the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the United States. After 9/11, "stress, promotional leadership, and intergroup conflict" were all factors that gave rise to the occurrence of groupthink. Political case studies of groupthink serve to illustrate the impact that the occurrence of groupthink can have in today's political scene…

Case Studies of Groupthink
Groupthink is a phenomenon that occurs when members of a cohesive group are concerned with quickly reaching a consensus in their decision making without critically analyzing and evaluating ideas. The term was coined by William H. Whyte in 1952 and was studied extensively by Irving Janis. Janis analyzed numerous foreign policy disasters such as Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and Bay of Pigs and found group cohesion to be the cause…

Princess Diana bows to Mother Teresa, the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, after the two met briefly at the Missionaries of Charity's residence in the Bronx on June 18, 1997.

Nineteen years ago on, Friday, March 7, 1997, I flew to Pittsburgh, PA to attend the weekend long National Symposium of the New Ways Ministry "The Church Teaching/Teaching the Church: A National Dialogue on Lesbian/Gay Issues and Catholicism.” The Symposium began that evening with Richard Isay MD delivering the keynote address.

Ministering in New Ways to Gay and Lesbian Catholics and the Church
In 1997, our twentieth anniversary year was a banner year for the ministry. In March, we sponsored the Fourth National Symposium, entitled "The Church Teaching/Teaching the Church: A National Dialogue on Lesbian/Gay Issues and Catholicism." Over 650 Catholic leaders and pastoral ministers gathered in Pittsburgh for a weekend-long in-depth and extensive discussion of topics ranging from same-sex marriage, family relationships, civil rights, homophobia, heterosexism, pastoral care, and lesbian nuns.
At that meeting, Bishop Gumbleton made another historic statement: he called on all gay and lesbian Church workers--"including priests and bishops"--to come out of the closet and acknowledge their sexual orientation. Little by little, awareness of gay and lesbian Church personnel is becoming a reality in Catholicism.
October 1997 saw the publication "Always Our Children," a historic pastoral statement from the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Marriage and Family Life. This document, directed to parents and pastoral ministers, is one of the strongest affirmations of the goodness of lesbian and gay people in the Catholic Church. "In you, God's love is revealed," the bishops say to gay and lesbian people at the close of this document which calls Catholic parents and leaders to initiate dialogue, outreach, and affirmation of the gay and lesbian members of their families and parishes…

Richard Isay
Richard A. Isay (December 13, 1934 – June 28, 2012) was an American psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, author and gay activist. He was a professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and a faculty member of the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Isay is considered a pioneer who changed the way that psychoanalysts view homosexuality…

Obituary: Richard Isay/ Pittsburgh-born doctor fought illness label for gays Died June 28
July 2, 2012
…”He changed the way the psychoanalytic world viewed the subject of homosexuality," said Jack Drescher, a training and supervising analyst at the William Alanson White Institute in New York and the author of "Psychoanalytic Therapy and the Gay Man." "He was a pioneer, a very brave man. He was attacked by psychoanalysts. He took a lot of flak."
During the era in which Dr. Isay trained, homosexuality was viewed as a "lower level of psychological development," Dr. Drescher said. It was something to be cured in therapy, and openly gay professionals were barred from training as analysts at institutions accredited by the American Psychoanalytic Association, the oldest professional group for analysts in the United States and one of the most influential, with many training institutes and affiliated societies.
Early in his career, Dr. Isay accepted the mainstream view. Troubled about his own sexuality, he thought psychoanalysis might help, and he had 10 years of therapy. In the early 1970s, soon after the analysis ended and he was supposedly "cured," he realized, he said, that he was homosexual. By then, he had a wife and two sons…

AN IMPERFECT MAN: THE STORY OF DR. RICHARD ISAY - 09 JULY 2012

It was the knowledge from Dr. Isay’s address that was the foundation for my reasoning to come out 3 weeks later during Holy Week, March 1997. I came out for the immediate protection of children as young as 4 and 5 years of age growing up gay from the lifelong harmful influences caused by the unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms. These antigay norms are unsupported or proven by evidence - they are solely driven by a collective behavior of societal ignorance and fear. It is like driving blind with young children in the car. This unchecked irrational reasoning continues to lead parents, in varying degrees of severity, to forcing the suppression of the gay sexual orientation of their children - growing up during their early childhood years. It is as unnatural as it was, in the past, forcing left handed children to be right handed, however, the suppression of the sexual orientation of gay children was and is far more severely life threatening (http://www.cdc.gov/msmhealth/stigma-and-discrimination.htm).

Stigma and Discrimination
U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
Homophobia, stigma (negative and usually unfair beliefs), and discrimination (unfairly treating a person or group of people) against gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men still exist in the United States and can negatively affect the health and well-being of this community.
These negative beliefs and actions can affect the physical and mental health of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, whether they seek and are able to get health services, and the quality of the services they may receive. Such barriers to health must be addressed at different levels of society, such as health care settings, work places, and schools to improve the health of gay and bisexual men throughout their lives.

These lifelong harmful effects, depending on the severity of an authoritarian parental suppression of a child’s gay sexual orientation, range anywhere, varying degrees of intensity, from: depression and anxiety, to suicidal ideation, to problems in forming close, fulling and lifelong relationships, to a marked form of aggressiveness and interpersonal hostility, to violent behavior directed indiscriminately at all gay people (http://www.rochester.edu/news/show.php?id=4040).

PARENTING AND HOMOPHOBIA
Parental Autonomy Support and Discrepancies Between Implicit and Explicit Sexual Identities: Dynamics of Self-Acceptance and Defense - 2012
When individuals grow up with autonomy-thwarting parents, they may be prevented from exploring internally endorsed values and identities and as a result shut out aspects of the self perceived to be unacceptable. Given the stigmatization of homosexuality, individuals perceiving low autonomy support from parents may be especially motivated to conceal same-sex sexual attraction, leading to defensive processes such as reaction formation…
…Psychodynamic traditions hold that people have a preferred view of themselves, which may not reflect reality. When this idealized view is threatened by contradictory thoughts or feelings, people engage in one or more unconscious processes to defend against the threat to self. Among defensive processes that have been recognized as having some empirical support is reaction formation, a process indicated in the modern body of research on self-esteem preservation (e.g., Baumeister, Dale, & Sommer, 1998).  Reaction formation refers to the process of adopting values or beliefs, or engaging in behaviors, that are in opposition to feelings or impulses experienced within oneself that are deemed unacceptable. Empirical work has shown reaction formation processes with respect to sexism (Sherman & Garkin, 1980), sex guilt (Morokoff, 1985), and prejudice (Dutton & Lake, 1973), indicating that individuals sometimes defend against self-relevant, threatening information by engaging in opposing behaviors…
Read more:

Also, among these lifelong harmful effects is a noticeable behavioral immaturity in the defenses used that “include projection, acting out, isolation, devaluation, autistic fantasy, denial, passive aggressiveness, displacement, disassociation, splitting, rationalization, and somatization (http://www.west-info.eu/files/Ciocca_et_al-2015-The_Journal_of_Sexual_Medicine.pdf).”

PsychoticismImmature Defense Mechanisms and a Fearful Attachment Style are Associated with a Higher Homophobic Attitude - September 8, 2015
…We demonstrated the involvement of psychoticism and immature defense mechanisms in homophobic attitudes, while a contrasting role is played by neurotic defense mechanisms and depressive symptoms. Moreover, secure attachment is an indicator of low levels of homophobia compared with the subjects demonstrating a fearful style of attachment. Hence, in the assessment of homophobia and in the relevant programs of prevention, it is necessary to consider the psychologic aspects described earlier…
Homophobia is a significant social problem that involves specific personality features in the subjects, with an intrinsic aversion toward homosexuals. Psychoticism and immature defense mechanisms specify people with higher levels of homophobia, highlighting a remarkable association between dysfunctional aspects of personality and homophobic attitudes. This association could generate two possible victims: potential sexual offenders, and above all, homosexual subjects. Moreover, our study follows a controversial issue regarding homophobia as a possible mental disorder, and it also discusses the possible clinical implications that cross inevitably into the area of psychiatric epistemology. Therefore, to know and to assess the relationship between psychopathology and homophobia is a fundamental challenge in preventing the stigma toward homosexuality.

American Psychiatric Association - Official Actions
Position Statement on Issues Related to Homosexuality - Dec. 2013
…It is the American Psychiatric Association’s position that same-sex attraction, whether expressed in action, fantasy, or identity, implies no impairment per se in judgment, stability, reliability, or general social or vocational capabilities…

This identifiable form of an irrational - “intrinsic aversion toward homosexuals” has been found to be a dissociated form of latent homosexuality, (http://www.shrink-friendly.co.il/tau/article/homophobia.pdf). Latent homosexuality is an erotic inclination toward members of the same sex that is not consciously experienced or expressed in overt action. This may mean a hidden inclination or potential for interest in homosexual relationships, which is either suppressed or not recognized, and which has not yet been explored, or may never be explored (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_homosexuality). Again, these are the lifelong harmful effects that adults experience, who as children as young as 4 and 5 years of age suffer from the impact of the influences caused by the unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms.

It is important to remember that at 4 and 5 years of age - a child does not have any concept of the adult understanding of what “gay” means or anything about human sexuality, as well. A child’s expressions of his sexual orientation, whether gay, straight or bisexual - at this very young age - are completely about “wanting to be loved and wanting to love and wanting be one with another” that any forced disruption at this time would be experienced by the child as traumatic, disorienting, causing a disturbance and fixation in their psychosexual (Freud) and moral (Piaget) developmental stages of the early childhood years growing up. Because a child at this young age is beginning to learn how to express love for another - in the only way that comes naturally to him, and therefore - the child is completely startled by the unexpected disapproval, rejection or worst - is traumatizing.

A child - will do anything to please and avoid disapproval of his parents and instantly will suppress any visible behavioral actions from his parents and even from himself. And here begins what Erik Erikson defines as - “the mutilation of a child’s spirit.” A traumatized child out of fear will unquestioningly obey whatever his parents say and come to rigidly believe that his natural expression of love - is bad and therefore he is bad. The child will no longer trust his natural expressions of love and to avoid any further traumatizing disapproval of his parents - the child will rigidly follow his parental rules

However, the reality about sexual orientation whether it is gay, straight or bisexual - it cannot be permanently suppressed or changed. It is forever continuously functioning autonomically - like our hearts beating or our breathing - it is operates automatically, not under our conscious control regulating our bodily functions - sustaining our lives. In brief, sexual orientation is all about our most basic human emotional need that we cannot live without - love and human attachment. Attractions and the need for love, are forever operative out of our control and no matter how hard we try to suppress our sexual orientation - it cannot be done.

Matthew 8:5-13
The Faith of the Centurion
When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
1Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.

‘Amoris Laetitia’ and Gay Marriage: A Closer Look
Francis X. Clooney, SJ - Apr 11 2016
I grant that none of this, including my opinion, adds up at all to the evidence required to persuade the Vatican to rethink its stance on gay marriage. But it should be evident to anyone with their eyes open, that gay marriage is in many ways similar to marriage as is esteemed by the church, and that analogies abound, including those I have mentioned. It is hard to see how or why Pope Francis might think that gay marriage could be entirely dissimilar and equivocally unlike heterosexual marriage. It is hard to see why Pope Francis, even if quoting quotes from other documents, would be willing to say that the marriage of a gay couple is entirely outside God’s plan. Is there anything or anyone outside God's mercy and compassion? Later in "Amoris Laetitia" Francis writes,
We put so many conditions on mercy that we empty it of its concrete meaning and real significance. That is the worst way of watering down the Gospel. It is true, for example, that mercy does not exclude justice and truth, but first and foremost we have to say that mercy is the fullness of justice and the most radiant manifestation of God’s truth. For this reason, we should always consider “inadequate any theological conception which in the end puts in doubt the omnipotence of God and, especially, his mercy.” This offers us a framework and a setting which help us avoid a cold bureaucratic morality in dealing with more sensitive issues. Instead, it sets us in the context of a pastoral discernment filled with merciful love, which is ever ready to understand, forgive, accompany, hope, and above all integrate. That is the mindset which should prevail in the Church and lead us to “open our hearts to those living on the outermost fringes of society” (No. 311-12).
Though I am a Jesuit, I do not have the pope’s ear, nor the ear of those who have the pope’s ear. But were I to speak to him, I would thank him heartily for "Amoris Laetitia," its content and tone—and also ask him to rewrite No. 251 in light of Nos. 311-312, in his own hand, from his own heart.

COMMENTS
Robert Lewis | 4/13/2016 - 1:56am
…Oh, I know about “Go and sin no more,” spoken to the woman at whom the Savior would not throw the first stone, but “go and sin no more” was not said when Jesus Christ was actually extended the perfect opportunity to explicitly rebuke “same-sex love” and attraction. I have explained it before on these threads, and my explanation was censored by the editors of AMERICA, probably as giving too much “scandal” to the good, conservative Catholics who tune in here, but it’s important, I believe, that they know, in order to open some space for the operations of conscience that Pope Francis writes about, of the occasion in which Jesus Christ did NOT hesitate to give “scandal” to fundamentalist and puritanical Jews regarding homosexual relationships, so please allow publication of what follows: [Matthew 8:5-13 | The Faith of the Centurion]
…Classical scholarship has, in the past few decades, made abundantly clear what were the officially prescribed relationships between Roman citizens and their slaves in the Graeco-Roman world, and sexual access to slaves of both sexes by their masters was sanctioned by law, and, indeed, culturally approved. This is directly relevant to the Scriptural account of the healing of the centurion’s “servant,” because “servant” is NOT the accurate translation of the Greek "paieus" of the original text, which actually means something like “minion,” and signifies a beloved slave, not a servant. Christ heals the sick slave boy at the Roman centurion’s request and pronounces that He has not seen such faith amongst the Jews. He does NOT rebuke the centurion for enjoying a physical relationship with his slave boy, and sends him on his way without a scolding. Some extraordinarily paranoid fundamentalist Christians who know of this likelihood respond to this claim, which I’m not the only one to make in recent times, that the Savior, in his “omniscience,” would have known that there was no sexual contact in that particular Roman’s relationship with his slave boy, but my response to that is that the Lord was, at the very least, “giving scandal” to the Jews standing around witnessing the confabulation, because they would have known very well what were the practices of their Roman occupiers, and would have expected to hear, at the very least, a request that this particular Roman “sin no more,” but the rebuke is not there, and the centurion’s enormous gratitude for the saving of the life of his adolescent male lover is preserved in the passage of the liturgy of the Mass, which repeats “Lord, I am not worthy, but only say the word, and my soul” [beloved] “shall be healed.”…

CNN Exclusive: Pope held private meeting with same-sex couple in U.S. _ October 3, 2015
(CNN)The day before Pope Francis met anti-gay county clerk Kim Davis in Washington last week, he held a private meeting with a longtime friend from Argentina who has been in a same-sex relationship for 19 years.
Yayo Grassi, an openly gay man, brought his partner, Iwan Bagus, as well several other friends to the Vatican Embassy on September 23 for a brief visit with the Pope. A video of the meeting shows Grassi and Francis greeting each other with a warm hug.
In an exclusive interview with CNN, Grassi said the visit was arranged personally with the Pope via email in the weeks ahead of Francis' highly anticipated visit to the United States.
"Three weeks before the trip, he called me on the phone and said he would love to give me a hug," Grassi said.
The meeting between the Pope and gay couple adds another intriguing twist to the strange aftermath of Francis' first-ever trip to the United States. Since news broke on Tuesday of Francis' meeting with Davis, conservatives have cheered the seemingly implicit endorsement, while liberals have questioned how much the Pope knew about her case. Davis spent six days in a Kentucky jail last month for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
The two encounters -- one with an openly gay couple and one with a government official who ardently opposes homosexuality -- have left the Vatican scrambling to issue statements that seek to de-politicize the Pope's meetings and agenda…

Pope Francis Replaces Ambassador Who Arranged Kim Davis Meeting - April 12, 2016
Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio in Mexico, to the same position in the U.S., replacing the Vatican's ambassador who set up the pope's meeting with controversial Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis last fall.
The move had been anticipated since the exiting nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 earlier this year.
News of the pope's meeting with Davis surprised many of his American supporters last year; for some, it came as the lone controversial element of an otherwise harmonious visit to the U.S. Only weeks earlier, Davis had been put in jail over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples…

Priest hits out at Church’s ‘nonsensical’ doctrine on homosexuality - March 1, 2016
The Catholic Church’s doctrine on homosexuality is “nonsensical” and its stance against the proposed criminalisation of gay conversion therapy is flawed, Fr Rene Camilleri said.
“The Catholic Church’s doctrine still refers to homosexuality in terms of it being an illness or a disorder,” Camilleri said during an interview aired on Monday night’s edition of Reporter. “Speaking like that in today’s society is simply nonsensical.”
Camilleri, the head of the Curia’s secretariat for catechesis, criticised the Maltese Church’s recent controversial position paper that took a stance against a Bill to criminalise LGBT conversion ‘therapy’.
“The Church has long been accustomed to keeping silent on major national issues, but [Archbishop] Charles Scicluna’s strategy is to request position papers on such issues so that the Church can take a stance…

Church must take bold choices on new realities - Fr Rene Camilleri - April 20, 2015
When our sister daily newspaper carried a story earlier this week that Fr Mark Montebello had blessed the rings of a gay couple during their engagement ceremony, he was summarily summoned by the Archbishop who told the outspoken priest to continue his pastoral work with gay people but instructed him to no longer go against the Church’s guidelines on this sensitive subject.
The Malta Independent on Sunday spoke to two other outspoken members of the clergy – Fr Rene Camilleri and Fr Colin Apap – about the controversy over whether priests should bless the rings of gay couples or couples who opt for civil instead of Church marriages.
According to Fr Camilleri: “Today, we are facing new realities such as divorced couples, civil unions and the introduction of the gender identity bill. The Church has to take account of these realities and take bold choices about them. It can’t afford to keep repeating old teachings because these realities are here to stay.”…

Without Truth there is no Love - Benedict XVI - Welcoming gay people - Synod 2014 & 2015???

Excerpts:

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

CARITAS IN VERITATE
BENEDICT XVI - 2009

3. Through this close link with truth, charity can be recognized as an authentic expression of humanity and as an element of fundamental importance in human relations, including those of a public nature. Only in truth does charity shine forth, only in truth can charity be authentically lived. Truth is the light that gives meaning and value to charity. That light is both the light of reason and the light of faith, through which the intellect attains to the natural and supernatural truth of charity: it grasps its meaning as gift, acceptance, and communion. Without truth, charity degenerates into sentimentalityLove becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. It falls prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted, to the point where it comes to mean the opposite. Truth frees charity from the constraints of an emotionalism that deprives it of relational and social content, and of a fideism that deprives it of human and universal breathing-space. In the truth, charity reflects the personal yet public dimension of faith in the God of the Bible, who is both Agápe and Lógos: Charity and Truth, Love and Word.
4. Because it is filled with truth, charity can be understood in the abundance of its values, it can be shared and communicated. Truth, in fact, is lógos which creates diá-logos, and hence communication and communion. Truth, by enabling men and women to let go of their subjective opinions and impressions, allows them to move beyond cultural and historical limitations and to come together in the assessment of the value and substance of things. Truth opens and unites our minds in the lógos of love: this is the Christian proclamation and testimony of charity. In the present social and cultural context, where there is a widespread tendency to relativize truth, practising charity in truth helps people to understand that adhering to the values of Christianity is not merely useful but essential for building a good society and for true integral human development. A Christianity of charity without truth would be more or less interchangeable with a pool of good sentiments, helpful for social cohesion, but of little relevance. In other words, there would no longer be any real place for God in the world. Without truth, charity is confined to a narrow field devoid of relations. It is excluded from the plans and processes of promoting human development of universal range, in dialogue between knowledge and praxis…
Reason always stands in need of being purified by faith: this also holds true for political reason, which must not consider itself omnipotent. For its part, religion always needs to be purified by reason in order to show its authentically human face. Any breach in this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human development

FIDES ET RATIO
JOHN PAUL II
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
FAITH AND REASON
14 September 1998

Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves (cf. Ex 33:18; Ps 27:8-9; 63:2-3; Jn 14:8; 1 Jn 3:2).
…Philosophy and the sciences function within the order of natural reason; while faith, enlightened and guided by the Spirit, recognizes in the message of salvation the “fullness of grace and truth” (cf. Jn 1:14) which God has willed to reveal in history and definitively through his Son, Jesus Christ (cf. 1 Jn 5:9; Jn 5:31-32)…
…Therefore, reason and faith cannot be separated without diminishing the capacity of men and women to know themselves, the world and God in an appropriate way…
…On a number of occasions, the Second Vatican Council stressed the positive value of scientific research for a deeper knowledge of the mystery of the human being…
…“[Galileo] declared explicitly that the two truths, of faith and of science, can never contradict each other, 'Sacred Scripture and the natural world proceeding equally from the divine Word, the first as dictated by the Holy Spirit, the second as a very faithful executor of the commands of God', as he wrote in his letter to Father Benedetto Castelli on 21 December 1613. The Second Vatican Council says the same thing, even adopting similar language in its teaching: 'Methodical research, in all realms of knowledge, if it respects... moral norms, will never be genuinely opposed to faith: the reality of the world and of faith have their origin in the same God' ( Gaudium et Spes, 36). Galileo sensed in his scientific research the presence of the Creator who, stirring in the depths of his spirit, stimulated him, anticipating and assisting his intuitions”: John Paul II, Address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (10 November 1979): Insegnamenti, II, 2 (1979), 1111-1112.

Letter to Father George V. Coyne, Director of the Vatican Observatory (June 1, 1988) | John Paul II
By encouraging openness between the Church and the scientific communities, we are not envisioning a disciplinary unity between theology and science like that which exists within a given scientific field or within theology proper. As dialogue and common searching continue, there will be grow towards mutual understanding and a gradual uncovering of common concerns which will provide the basis for further research and discussion. Exactly what form that will take must be left to the future. What is important, as we have already stressed, is that the dialogue should continue and grow in depth and scope. In the process we must overcome every regressive tendency to a unilateral reductionism, to fear, and to self-imposed isolation. What is critically important is that each discipline should continue to enrich, nourish and challenge the other to be more fully what it can be and to contribute to our vision of who we are and who we are becoming…
Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish.
For the truth of the matter is that the Church and the scientific community will inevitably interact; their options do not include isolation.

Faith can never conflict with reason
The 'Galileo case' teaches us that different branches of knowledge call for different methods, each of which brings out various aspects of reality
The following English translation of the Holy Father's address, which was given in French, appeared in L'Osservatore Romano N. 44 (1264) - 4 November 1992

After 350 Years, Vatican Says Galileo Was Right: It Moves - October 31, 1992
ROME, Oct. 30— More than 350 years after the Roman Catholic Church condemned Galileo, Pope John Paul II is poised to rectify one of the Church's most infamous wrongs -- the persecution of the Italian astronomer and physicist for proving the Earth moves around the Sun.
With a formal statement at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on Saturday, Vatican officials said the Pope will formally close a 13-year investigation into the Church's condemnation of Galileo in 1633. The condemnation, which forced the astronomer and physicist to recant his discoveries, led to Galileo's house arrest for eight years before his death in 1642 at the age of 77.
The dispute between the Church and Galileo has long stood as one of history's great emblems of conflict between reason and dogma, science and faith. The Vatican's formal acknowledgement of an error, moreover, is a rarity in an institution built over centuries on the belief that the Church is the final arbiter in matters of faith.
At the time of his condemnation, Galileo had won fame and the patronage of leading Italian powers like the Medicis and Barberinis for discoveries he had made with the astronomical telescope he had built. But when his observations led him to proof of the Copernican theory of the solar system, in which the sun and not the earth is the center, and which the Church regarded as heresy, Galileo was summoned to Rome by the Inquisition. Forced to Recant…

Vatican Science Panel Told By Pope: Galileo Was Right - November 1, 1992
…John Paul said the theologians who condemned Galileo did not recognize the formal distinction between the Bible and its interpretation.
This led them unduly to transpose into the realm of the doctrine of the faith, a question which in fact pertained to scientific investigation…

Only in truth does charity shine forth, only in truth can charity be authentically lived - Benedict XVI - - Welcoming gay people - Synod 2014 & 2015 - Where was the truth??? Where was the dialogue??? There was no love!!!

In the first social encyclical letter of Pope Benedict XVI, CARITAS IN VERITATE, he focuses not on the harmful structural aspects of globalization of the social economy, but addresses that the cure for this devastation of human life and to the environment is to be found - “In the present social and cultural context, where there is a widespread tendency to relativize truth, practising charity in truth helps people to understand that adhering to the values of Christianity is not merely useful but essential for building a good society and for true integral human development.”

What he details as to how Truth contains the light of reason and faith and that “Truth frees charity from the constraints of an emotionalism that deprives it of relational and social content, and of a fideism that deprives it of human and universal breathing-space” and how “Truth, by enabling men and women to let go of their subjective opinions and impressions, allows them to move beyond cultural and historical limitations and to come together in the assessment of the value and substance of things” - his descriptions - parallels both the successful completion and lack-thereof of a crucial psychological developmental period of a child’s emotional maturation that take place between 5-9 years of age. The successful completion of this developmental period of a child’s life is essential for maturational developments in adolescence that leads to adult maturity, which Benedict XVI refers to as the Truth in Charity. The fixation at this period - he describes as a person - who is given to emotionalismsentimentallyfideism, filled with arbitrary ways and refuses to dialogue with others. This description describes the fierce emotional negative reaction of the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy to the Synod session of 2014  midterm report - “welcoming gay people,” valuing gay loving committed relationships. It was followed by their equally fierce refusal to even dialogue or to consider the decades of the scientific data  regarding gay sexual orientation.

Not only did they ignore Benedict XVI’s encyclical letter CARITAS IN VERITATE, but also John Paul II’s  FIDES ET RATIO and his address given in 1979 regarding Galileo and of literal interpretation of the sacred books. John Paul II also - stressed the importance of not separating reason and faith because it diminishes “the capacity of men and women to know themselves, the world and God in an appropriate way.” And again in 1988 John Paul II stressed the importance of ongoing dialogue and common searching should grow in depth and scope warning that “In the process we must overcome every regressive tendency to a unilateral reductionism, to fear, and to self-imposed isolation.” This is exactly what they did for the past 30 years, in their intense reaction against any consideration or open discussion concerning gay people. They continued the same throughout the Synod session of 2015, which included same covert though ruthless tactics forcefully preventing any further open discussion on the topic of being supportive of gay people. They publicly demonstrated both their collective immaturity and their violent tactics, as documented in the Vatileaks of 2012, by blatantly attacking Pope Francis by way of character assassination accusing him of attempting to fix the outcome the Synod in favor of gay people and leaking the rumors the he had a brain tumor. I have experienced and continue to experience the same ruthless tactics - like so many others before me, including without any grounds attempting to remove name from the priesthood. What happened at the session of the Synod 2015, was brutally obsessive in preventing the open dialogue about the lives of gay people from taking place  was without Truth and therefore it was without of God's Love.

Photo

Autonomic nervous system
The autonomic nervous system is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions such as the heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, urination, and sexual arousal

FIDES ET RATIO - 1998
AMORIS LÆTITIA - 2016

It is astounding that the curial’s understanding of homosexuality is frozen in the 1950s. They have not labored to integrate the science and religion, as John Paul II and Benedict XVI stated in their respective encyclicals FIDES ET RATIO 1998 and CARITAS IN VERITATE 2009 must never be separated - on the sexual orientation of heterosexual and homosexuality.

The majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy still believe that homosexuality is a mental disorder though completely unsubstantiated by science and scripture - made the same mistake that was made against Galileo.

Pope Francis in his APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION - AMORIS LÆTITIA 2016 (http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20160319_amoris-laetitia.html) made the statement “We also need to be humble and realistic, acknowledging that at times the way we present our Christian beliefs and treat other people has helped contribute to today’s problematic situation.” This statement could applied to the accountability to the curia and hierarchy and their followers for decades of human atrocities committed against gay people, especially children for negligence of separating science from religion - regarding homosexuality. Would they have ignored all the scientific advancements for the past several decades - regarding the human heart? They will ignore all the scientific advancement made regarding homosexuality and yet use outdated psychological theories to continue to condemn homosexuality e.g. “affective immaturity,” which is analogous to using “bloodletting” in the 21st century.

Bloodletting (or blood-letting) is the withdrawal of blood from a patient to cure or prevent illness and disease. Bloodletting was based on an ancient system of medicine in which blood and other bodily fluids were regarded as "humors" that had to remain in proper balance to maintain health.

What science has determined is that homosexuality is not a mental disorder, as Everly Hooker’s research had found in 1957. The symptoms that once were used to classify homosexuality as a disorder have been found to be caused by the unnatural suppression of the child’ homosexual sexual orientation beginning in early childhood. These symptoms include low self-esteem, narcissistic behavior, excessive anger, jealousy, problems forming close, meaningful and lifelong last friendships, etc. Not so ironically that these same symptoms have been publicly demonstrated extensively throughout the majority of the members of curia and hierarchy that began with the midterm report of the Synod session of 2014 welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving and committed relationships.

In reviewing the encyclicals and addresses of John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and of course Pope Francis the common theme is not separating science and religion. John Paul II reviewed the Galileo affairs set an example how the curia ignored the science and misused the interpretations of the scripture to wrongly condemned Galileo. Benedict XVI explains in theological terminology to describe the devastating affects when truth is not in charity. He too classifies truth as the integration of science and faith and states that without truth there is no love. The symptoms he describes that need to be overcome for truth to become love, which are the same symptoms that are classified as caused by the suppression of the child’s gay sexual orientation. Pope Francis identified these symptoms as belonging to the curia and hierarchy, since his election and especially listing them in his December 2014 address to the curia. However, as stated above - it was the fierce emotionally negative reaction throughout the Synod sessions of 2014 and 2015 publicly made by the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy that confirmed the fact that these symptoms to be truth of themselves collectively. Photo

The observation of this common link among these popes raises a number of significant fundamental questions about just how entrenched the corruption of the curia is and how it is firmly and obsessively been centered around the suppression of their gay sexual orientation.

1978 John Paul II - - - Galileo 1979

Why did John Paul II almost immediately after his election to the papacy in October 1978 - feel such urgency to begin the investigate of the Galileo affair nearly 400 years after the fact, in1979?

1980s Draconian - - - Machiavellian 2015

And what triggered the next that 30 years, beginning in the 1980s, of the curia’s obsessive suppression of the emerging science on homosexuality including ruthlessly removing anyone priest, theologian, sister who openly discuss this science or who were supportive of gay people?

This curial antigay crusade was beginning in the mid 1970s and gained national and international notoriety in the 1980s with Archbishop Hunthausen. It was labeled then as using “Draconian measures (http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1986-09-28/news/8603120562_1_archbishop-weakland-seattle-archbishop-raymond-hunthausen-seattle-archdiocese)” the use of these obsessive ruthless tactics remained constant for the next 3 decades - right on through the Synod session of 2015 and was labeled then as “Machiavellian maneuvers (http://www.cruxnow.com/church/2015/10/03/pope-francis-faces-an-uphill-climb-to-get-the-synod-he-wants/).” It appears to have been triggered by the researcher, Evelyn Hooker’s efforts to challenge US Senator Joseph McCarthy from Wisconsin in the 1950s unsubstantiated terrorizing witch-hunt for homosexuals exploiting people’s ignorance and fears, known as the Lavender scareCardinal Raymond Burke was born in Wisconsin, June 1948, he grew up during this time of McCarthy’s antigay demagoguery reign of terror of the 1950s. It is interesting to note how identically Burke mirrors  McCarthy’s antigay demagogic rhetoric, emotional terror and narcissism. Photo

Mentally Healthy  Overt Male - Homosexuals & Heterosexuals
No Detectable Difference

Evelyn Hooker PhD, throughout the 1950s in efforts to combat US Senator Joseph McCarthy from Wisconsin - who exploited the societal ignorance and fears of homosexuals was able terrorize the nation by his obsessive demagogic witch hunt for homosexual, she conducted the first ever research on overt male homosexuals that in 1957 - found that they are as mentally healthy as male heterosexuals. Using the word overt means that these were male homosexuals - who openly were living as gay men - the same as heterosexual men. They did not exhibit any symptoms indicating that they were forced to suppress their gay sexual orientation during their early childhood years by their parents - influenced by unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms.

Dr. Evelyn Hooker’s research was internationally replicated by experts and reported “…that homosexuality is not a mental disorder, as there was no detectable difference between homosexual and heterosexual men in terms of mental adjustment…(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelyn_Hooker).” She provided the authoritative research that became the empirical foundation for the removal of homosexuality as a mental disorder from the DSM in 1973. The mental health issues that were normally used to describe homosexuals, at the time, in the 1950s, such as, depression - found that depression was not a normal condition of a person who is homosexual, but instead the person was depressed, because he was not allowed to freely live from his early childhood years as a homosexual.

"The most striking finding of the three judges," Dr. Hooker wrote, "was that many of the homosexuals were very well adjusted. In fact, the three judges agreed on two-thirds of the group as being average to superior in adjustment. Not only do all homosexuals not have strong feminine identification, nor are they all 'somewhat paranoid,' but, according to the judges, some may not be characterized by any demonstrable pathology (http://psc.dss.ucdavis.edu/rainbow/html/hooker2.html).”

Since, 1957, when Dr. Evelyn Hooker completed her ground breaking research, “The Adjustment of the Male Overt Homosexual” - ongoing research studies have continued, for the past 6 decades, substantiating homosexuality as a normal and natural development of human sexuality, established from birth and is resistant to change. In fact, research has found that attempts to changed a child’s homosexual orientation have led to a significant increase in the severity of the symptoms of depression, anxiety, drug abuse and suicidal ideation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_among_LGBT_youth).

This entire posting has been previously sent out as a US group mailing prior to posting it here on the Thalamus Center.

Until this moment, Senator,
I think I never really gauged
your cruelty or your recklessness …
Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator…

You've done enough.
Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?
Have you left no sense of decency?

US Senator Joseph McCarthy - Wisconsin
Cardinal Raymond Burke - Wisconsin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Leo_Burke

In just reviewing all of the documented facts that took place before, during and after the two sessions of the Synod on Family 2014, and 2015 - as vivid as a flashing neon sign, a thousand times bigger than St. Peter’s Basilica - Cardinal Burke, and the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy blinded by the symptoms of groupthink (http://web.stanford.edu/group/scie/Career/Wisdom/groupthink1.htm) - OUTED themselves as severely violent closeted repressed homosexuals. Photo

First, by their instant volcanic emotional eruption triggered by the midterm report 2014 regarding - the idea of welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving committed relationships. Second, this was followed by their year long orchestrated planning to disrupt the proceedings of the Synod 2015 - to prevent any open discussion on these issues. Surprisingly, this included a scheduled bombardment of attacks against me for nearly 7 months before the Synod 2015. It seemly was meant to keep me in a state of distressed unable to continue writing anything that would be considered of importance for the Synod 2015, as it seemed was the case for the Synod 2014. It is hard to believe that I could be perceived as such a substantial threat - meaning has anyone really been reading my postings on the Thalamus Center. Photo

However, my postings rely heavily on ample amounts of documentation, because I think that it is important for people to have enough access to information to begin their own investigation into any one issue. It is what good teachers do. So, if am a threat - it is only because I am the direct opposite of Cardinal Burke, I do not believe in forcing anyone to have to accept anything I say or think. I really prefer hearing an endless variety of sincere view points - I believe that is a major part of education. I realize that, instead for Burke this is a major threat, because, like Joseph McCarthy, a fully rounded education - takes all the wind out of his fierce demagoguery, which is solely hot air and no documentation (http://fathermartykurylowicz.blogspot.com/2015/07/part-2-obedient-to-whom-1997-2015.html). And in addition, it exposes his homophobia, his own personal gender issues (http://ncronline.org/news/people/cardinal-raymond-burke-feminized-church-and-altar-girls-caused-priest-shortage) and his obsession searching for pornography. Burke made this demagogic statement about gay priests, “who were feminized and confused about their own sexual identity” however, because it completely baseless - it then is a projection of his own internal conflict about his own gender that he is confused about (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/religion/cardinal-raymond-burke-gays-remarried-catholics-murderers-are-all-the-same/2015/03/27/2c2125b8-d4b5-11e4-8b1e-274d670aa9c9_story.html). Just because I prefer to read and will challenge his false and demeaning statements - so harmful to children for life - that is not a reason to try to have me removed from the priesthood. It does present a problem - remove me and then there will be 100s of priests like Burke.

“SOMETIMES WE ARE PREJUDICED AGAINST OURSELVES”:
INTERNALIZED AND EXTERNAL HOMOPHOBIA IN THE TREATMENT OF AN ADOLESCENT BOY - MARY T. BRADY, Ph.D. - 2010
Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Vol. 47, No. 4. ISSN 0010-7530

Internalized Homophobia
…Moss (2002)… He describes internalized homophobia in men as a movement from a personal subjective experience of homosexual impulses, which, if threatening, is defended against by a movement towards identifying with “masculine” group hatred towards homosexuality. He notes that the conventional usage of the term “internalized homophobia” “aims to describe and to partially account for a sexual identity characterized by persistent, structured negative feelings, particularly shame and self-loathing. Implicit . . . is the idea that such feelings represent the dynamic outcome of an internalization of the dominant culture’s attitude toward homosexuality”…
…Moss’s reminder that the concept of internalized homophobia relates not only to relatively accessible dimensions of experience but also to profoundly unconscious dynamics essential. He points to the complex manner in which the internalization of social, cultural, and familial rejections combines with intrapsychic issues:
Internalized homophobia is a symptomatic structure. Conceptually it is best thought of as a multilevel phenomenon. At a minimum it refers both to the widespread internalization of the dominant culture’s interdiction against homosexuality and to a particular individual’s defensive and possibly idiosyncratic employment of the interdiction. (Moss, 2002, p. 49)
That is, the internalization of prejudice meets the complexities of psychic reality and developmental processes, intermingling into complex states of shame and superego judgment. Harris (1996) pithily expresses it as follows: “Homophobia, like many aspects of ideology, is both in us and we are in it” (p. 363)…  Photo - Definition

Secondly, I started the Thalamus Center - to illustrate how those clerics and religious in the Church who based on authoritative data from science and the bible have been supportive of gay people and outspoken for the protection of children growing up gay have been denied their legal civil rights of protection, as citizens of the USA - from the covert criminal mistreated by members of the curia and hierarchy: by though not limited to, character assassination attacks severely damaging their good reputation, to point of destroying possibility for them to support themselves. This criminal activity, by members of the curia and hierarchy destroying my good reputation - is their way of silencing me from speaking out for the protection of children - ultimately meant to leave children unprotected. Photo

These same lethally harmful covert tactics - were used against Pope Francis during the synod proceedings of 2015 - by the leaking of the false rumors that he had a brain tumor.

Pope Francis has a brain tumor? Sharp denials amid synod silly season - October 21, 2015 VATICAN CITY (RNS) The Vatican on Wednesday (Oct. 21) categorically denied a story from an Italian news agency that Pope Francis has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, calling the report “unfounded” and “seriously irresponsible.” Photo
The brief and unsourced story was published late Tuesday on the website of Quotidiano Nazionale, or National Daily, which said only that a small tumor was discovered “months” ago and that no surgery would be required.

Pope Francis celebrates 79th birthday  - December 18, 2015
Pope Francis celebrated his 79th birthday on Thursday amid hopes among his critics that it will be his last - at least as pope.
While Francis remains enormously popular among most rank-and-file Catholics, a small but vocal group of conservatives who have never much cared for his radical agenda have grown increasingly strident in criticising him now that there is little doubt left about his priorities.
…The Remnant, a small, traditionalist US newspaper, last week wrote an open letter begging Francis to change course or resign, arguing that his papacy was 'causing grave harm to the church'. Organisers say a few thousand people have signed onto the petition.
' …This appalling situation has no parallel in church history.'
To put it more simply: 'Many people in the Vatican want Francis dead,' said Francesca Chaouqui, the woman at the heart of a leaks scandal currently convulsing Francis' Vatican.
In an interview last weekend with Italy's La Stampa newspaper, Chaouqui said Francis' in-house reforms and nominations have emboldened his enemies, many of whom were in the Vatican when Francis was archbishop of Buenos Aires and had a less-than-pleasant relationship with Rome.
Some of these cardinals and bishops are openly resisting his reforms while others inside and out of the Vatican are simply waiting out his pontificate under the argument that popes come and go but the Curia remains… Photo

Growing up Gay

My name is Fr. Marty Kurylowicz, a Roman Catholic priest from the Diocese of Grand Rapids Michigan ordained June 16, 1979.
In March 1997, after attending a National Symposium of the New Ways Ministry that was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I learned that children as young as 4 and 5 years of age know that they are different. This feeling "different" is only identified in their adult years as being gay. However, the harmful influence of antigay social and religious norms -- in particular, for Catholics, the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings -- are severe and last throughout a child’s lifetime. The harmful effects are not isolated only to these children who grow up to be gay, but also affect their families, siblings, friends and anyone whom they might consider special in their lives. They are a prescribed societal sentence of implicit isolation, which place at risk of suicide so many innocent adolescents and young adults. They stifle an enormous amount of human potential in the world that otherwise could be put to use for finding cures for diseases, offering better ways of maintaining peace among people and improving the quality of life for everyone in the world…

Experts praise Vatican's finance laws, but call for clampdown on crime - December 16, 2015  VATICAN CITY
European experts on preventing financial crimes praised the Vatican for significant steps in establishing laws and procedures in line with international protocols, but called for "real results" in cracking down on infractions and prosecuting offenses.
Moneyval -- the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism -- said the Vatican has addressed "most of the technical deficiencies in its legislation and regulations."
"However, there is a need now for the anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing system to deliver effective results in terms of prosecutionsconvictions and confiscation" of criminal assets, the experts said in a press release Dec. 12…

Roman Catholic hierarchy child sexual abuse “cover-ups” - to avoid public outrage & criminal charges falsely accused gay priests, WATERGATE? Fr. Marty Kurylowicz - December 17, 2009
...A major problem with the hierarchical structure of the Roman Catholic Church is that there are no “checks and balances.” When the necessary “checks and balances” are not in place to protect any organization, it leaves "not making waves" the rule that governs the hierarchy and opens the way to many devastating mistakes harmful to everyone and allows corruption to grow...

There within the Thalamus Center, for the continual protection of children - I have persistently and forthrightly been challenging the erroneous public antigay demagoguery statements made - led and orchestrated by Cardinal Burke - because of the lifelong harmful effects it has on the lives of children. Pope Benedict XVI and Cardinal Burke are both - two prime examples of this devastating lifelong harmful effects. Pope Benedict XVI grew up in the severely dehumanizing antigay social environment of Nazi Germany and Burke grew up in the dehumanizing antigay demagoguery social environment of US Senator Joseph McCarthy. Together - this is evident by the extensive documentation over the past 30 years, regarding their obsessive reenactments of the same extraordinary relentless violent public demagoguery crusade condemning homosexuals that dominated their early childhood years growing up.  Photo

Pope Benedict XVI, at the of six years old being raised in Nazi Germany - was significantly affected by the Nazi building upon societal prejudices against homosexuals, in order to scapegoat this negative image of homosexuals  - to falsely accuse the Catholic priests who outwardly opposed the Nazi racial policies. The Nazi did this - in order to avoid public outrage for removing these priests to concentration camps. In this way, the Nazi effectively silenced their opposition and use this fear to intimidating anyone else who dare to speak against the Nazi racial policy. Photo

Cardinal Burke having been raised in the state of Wisconsin - is mirroring the same hysterical antigay demagoguery campaign of US Senator Joseph McCarthy also from Wisconsin that was terrorizing the United States. In particular, Burke has been mirroring - the distortions and false statements of McCarthy’s demagoguery regarding his conspiracy theories that Communists and homosexuals were an imminent threat to the US government were terrorizing the nation. Photo

Cardinal Raymond Burke: Gays, remarried Catholics, murderers are all the same - 3/27/15

Burke has repeatedly used the almost exact same type of erroneous terrorizing tactics of intimidation that McCarthy used to expel those he suspected of being homosexual from government positions, to remove gay priests from the Church. McCarthy is noted for destroying people's reputations and even their lives by making his false accusations of people he suspected are part of a conspiracy to take over the US government.

Edward Murrow Challenges Joseph McCarthy
Using partial truthsdistortions, and some flat out lies in speeches and in hearings, McCarthy was a poster child for people who saw Communist conspiracies everywhere. On the March 9, 1954 episode of See It Now, Murrow systematically countered the charges McCarthy made in public. During the show, Murrow played clips of McCarthy making charges and then answered him using McCarthy’s own words. Public opinion was starting to turn and seemed to turn faster after the show… Photo

Having searched my conscience and my files, I cannot contend that I have always been right or wise. But I have attempted to pursue the truth with some diligence and to report it, even though, as in this case, I had been warned in advance that I would be subjected to the attentions of Senator McCarthy...

Army-McCarthy hearings

Joseph McCarthy - U.S. Senator from Wisconsin (1947–57)
...Not as widely known as McCarthy's anti-Communist crusade were his various attempts to intimidate, and expel from government positions, persons whom he accused, or threatened to publicly accuse, of homosexuality. Former U.S. Senator Alan K. Simpson has written: "The so-called 'Red Scare' has been the main focus of most historians of that period of time. A lesser-known element...and one that harmed far more people was the witch-hunt McCarthy and others conducted against homosexuals.” This anti-homosexual witch-hunt that McCarthy and others waged alongside their "Red Scare" tactics has been referred to by some as the "Lavender Scare"...

Joseph McCarthy - Lavender scare
The lavender scare refers to the fear and persecution of homosexuals in the 1950s in the United States and United Kingdom, which paralleled the anti-communist campaign known as McCarthyism. Gay men and lesbians were often considered communist sympathizers ("fellow travelers"), and the era of lavender scare "may be seen as the time when homosexuals became the chief scapegoats of the Cold War.”
Former U.S. Senator Alan K. Simpson has written: "The so-called 'Red Scare' has been the main focus of most historians of that period of time. A lesser-known element ... and one that harmed far more people was the witch-hunt McCarthy and others conducted against homosexuals.”…

Joseph N. Welch - Army-McCarthy hearings - 1954
…Senator McCarthy (R-Wisconsin) experienced a meteoric rise to fame and power in the U.S. Senate when he charged in February 1950 that “hundreds” of “known communists” were in the Department of State. In the years that followed, McCarthy became the acknowledged leader of the so-called Red Scare, a time when millions of Americans became convinced that communists had infiltrated every aspect of American life. Behind closed-door hearings, McCarthy bulliedlied, and smeared his way to power, destroying many careers and lives in the process...
...however, McCarthy’s recklessness and increasingly erratic behavior became unacceptable and the senator saw his clout slowly ebbing away. In a last-ditch effort to revitalize his anticommunist crusade, McCarthy made a crucial mistake. He charged in early 1954 that the U.S. Army was “soft” on communism. As Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee, McCarthy opened hearings into the Army. Photo
Joseph N. Welch, a soft-spoken lawyer with an incisive wit and intelligence, represented the Army. During the course of weeks of hearings, Welch blunted every one of McCarthy’s charges. The senator, in turn, became increasingly enraged, bellowing “point of order, point of order,” screaming at witnesses, and declaring that one highly decorated general was a “disgrace” to his uniform. On June 9, 1954, McCarthy again became agitated at Welch’s steady destruction of each of his arguments and witnesses. In response, McCarthy charged that Frederick G. Fisher, a young associate in Welch’s law firm, had been a long-time member of an organization that was a “legal arm of the Communist Party.” Welch was stunned. As he struggled to maintain his composure, he looked at McCarthy and declared, “Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness.” It was then McCarthy’s turn to be stunned into silence, as Welch asked, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” The audience of citizens and newspaper and television reporters burst into wild applause. Just a week later, the hearings into the Army came to a close. McCarthy, exposed as a reckless bully, was officially condemned by the U.S. Senate for contempt against his colleagues in December 1954...

Burke has been plagued with fictitious conspiracy theories regarding gay agendas, and powerful gay lobbies within the Church. He even warned Pope Francis of the same. It may even account for the endless conspiracy theories that saturated the proceedings of the Synod 2015 along with other ruthless tactics were meant to prevented any further discussion on welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving committed relationships, including attacking Pope Francis’s reputation by leaking the false rumor that he has a brain tumor (http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/10/22/450801081/vatican-says-rumors-about-pope-s-health-are-attempt-to-undermine-him).

The “Sour” FRUIT BOWL - Vatican City

The fact is that during the course of the two sessions on the Synod on Family 2014 and 2015 by their own public reactions and statements made against the idea or any further open discussion on the topic of welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving committed relationships, as stated above, - "Cardinal Burke, and the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy blinded by the symptoms of groupthink (http://web.stanford.edu/group/scie/Career/Wisdom/groupthink1.htm) - OUTED themselves as severely violent closeted repressed homosexuals."  (Photo - NEW YORK CITY, USA - JUNE 30, 2013: Drag queen celebrates the annual gay pride event in dramatic rainbow dress with matching headdress. — Foto de Lazyllama)

This, of course, does not included everyone, as it was also revealed during the course of these two sessions on the Synod on Family 2014 and 2015. There are some remarkably courageous members of the hierarchy, few though they may be, who struggled to push for a broader more thorough and comprehensive open discussion from all the related academic perspectives on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. However, they were forcefully blocked from doing so, by the “fishy” orchestrated hysteria of the infusion of conspiracy theories, threats of “walkouts”, false rumors of “brain tumors” called “the saga part of a ‘calumny to block change’”.

Vatican Says Rumors About Pope's Health Are Attempt To Undermine Him - October 22, 2015

From Rome, NPR'S Sylvia Poggioli reports:
"The suggestion that the tumor report was part of a plot against Pope Francis was put forth by the official Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano. It wrote, "the timing of the claim reveals there was an intent to manipulate and cause a dust storm of confusion."
"Cardinal Walter Kasper said it was part of an effort to undermine the bishops' assembly…

Cardinal Wuerl Calls Out Pope’s Opponents - October 18, 2015
Cardinal Donald Wuerl has flatly denied the allegations by some of his fellow cardinals and bishops that the fathers attending the synod are “somehow” being manipulated by the pope and the synod structure that Francis approved. He wonders whether the underlying reason why they are suggesting or saying such things is because “they just don’t like this pope,” and find the church that he is calling for “somewhat threatening.”
In this interview with America on Oct. 18,  the cardinal archbishop of Washington charged that a number of his brother cardinals and bishops have their own position and think that some questions now on the synod agenda should not even be discussed.  He said some of these people “are speaking, sometimes surreptitiously, sometimes half-way implying, then backing off and then twisting around” and in this way they have "tainted" the synod process in the public eye with their groundless allegations of manipulation, and so cast a cloud over its outcome.
Asked what he would say to those bishops who said and did such things, Wuerl replied:
“There’s not much you can say because if someone isn’t willing to hear you . . . ”…

Pope lectures Catholic elders at closing of synod on family - October 25, 2015

“That is a point for next time,” he said. “Better to leave it for later than discuss it in a hot and bad atmosphere.” Photo

Opposition to Pope Francis Comes Out of the Closet - Dec. 4, 2015
A recent spate of articles demonstrates that the opposition to Pope Francis is not exactly warming to the idea of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, still less to the pope himself. The more I read the opposition, the more it becomes clear that Cardinal Donald Wuerl, during the synod, was correct when he said of the opposition, “I wonder if some of these people who are speaking, sometimes surreptitiously, sometimes half-way implying, then backing off and then twisting around, I wonder if it is really that they find they just don’t like this pope. I wonder if that isn’t part of it.” Not sure whether to file the following examples of disliking the pope under the sad, funny or tragic categories, but they are all, in their different ways, undermining the pope…

However, given the ongoing Vatican gay-sex scandals this is hardly news. What it has done was to us give a more complete picture of homosexuality as to how extensively it has engulfed the Vatican and has spread throughout the hierarchy, globally. Though, it is one that indicates it is far more complicated than anyone could imagine. It appears to be a prism of - nearly a full spectrum of the extensive variability of how homosexuality is expressed among the individual clerics associated with the Vatican. Pope Francis referred to the curia in his Christmas address December 22, 2014 (http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2014/12/22/pope_francis_christmas_greetings_to_curia/1115668), as a microcosm of the Church. It appears that this spectrum of the variability of homosexuality contained at the Vatican - is also a microcosm of homosexuality that exist in the Church. It would truly be a most interesting research project that would prove to be of monumental importance in furthering the understanding of human sexuality - in particular homosexual sexual orientation.

It is the sickness of the cowardly who, not having the courage to speak directly to the people involved, instead speak behind their backs”...

Secrets of the Vatican - March 2014
Transcript FRONTLINE | PBS

There appears to be one undeniable common denominator - that the expression of the sexual orientation of homosexuality is forever operative throughout life - and that is connected to the innate human need to be loved and to love and to feel one with another. This is true no matter how severely it may be repressed in the early childhood years growing up gay.

However, it is this type of authoritarian parental severity used to repressed a child's sexual orientation that then leads to adult distorted sexual behavior - and often, as research has found, to violent attacks committed against gay people, as so clearly demonstrated by the harsh antigay tactics used throughout the Synod 2015. Photo

Is Some Homophobia Self-phobia? - April 5, 2012
Anti-gay Bias Linked to Lack of Awareness of One's Sexual Orientation and Authoritarian Parenting, Study Shows  Photo
Homophobia is more pronounced in individuals with an unacknowledged attraction to the same sex and who grew up with authoritarian parents who forbade such desires, a series of psychology studies demonstrates.
The study is the first to document the role that both parenting and sexual orientation play in the formation of intense and visceral fear of homosexuals, including self-reported homophobic attitudes, discriminatory bias, implicit hostility towards gays, and endorsement of anti-gay policies. Conducted by a team from the University of Rochester, the University of Essex, England, and the University of California in Santa Barbara, the research will be published the April issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
"Individuals who identify as straight but in psychological tests show a strong attraction to the same sex may be threatened by gays and lesbians because homosexuals remind them of similar tendencies within themselves," explains Netta Weinstein, a lecturer at the University of Essex and the study's lead author.
"In many cases these are people who are at war with themselves and they are turning this internal conflict outward," adds co-author Richard Ryan, professor of psychology at the University of Rochester who helped direct the research…
The findings may help to explain the personal dynamics behind some bullying and hate crimes directed at gays and lesbians, the authors argue. Media coverage of gay-related hate crimes suggests that attackers often perceive some level of threat from homosexuals. People in denial about their sexual orientation may lash out because gay targets threaten and bring this internal conflict to the forefront, the authors write.
The research also sheds light on high profile cases in which anti-gay public figures are caught engaging in same-sex sexual acts. The authors write that this dynamic of inner conflict may be reflected in such examples as Ted Haggard, the evangelical preacher who opposed gay marriage but was exposed in a gay sex scandal in 2006, and Glenn Murphy, Jr., former chairman of the Young Republican National Federation and vocal opponent of gay marriage, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old man in 2007.
"We laugh at or make fun of such blatant hypocrisy, but in a real way, these people may often themselves be victims of repression and experience exaggerated feelings of threat," says Ryan. "Homophobia is not a laughing matter. It can sometimes have tragic consequences," Ryan says, pointing to cases such as the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard or the 2011 shooting of Larry King… Photo
Across all the studies, participants with supportive and accepting parents were more in touch with their implicit sexual orientation, while participants from authoritarian homes revealed the most discrepancy between explicit and implicit attraction.
"In a predominately heterosexual society, 'know thyself' can be a challenge for many gay individuals. But in controlling and homophobic homes, embracing a minority sexual orientation can be terrifying," explains Weinstein. These individuals risk losing the love and approval of their parents if they admit to same sex attractions, so many people deny or repress that part of themselves, she said…

Projection - Repressed Homosexual Feelings
When an internal impulse provokes too much anxiety, the ego may reduce that anxiety by attributing the unwanted impulse to an external object, usually another person. This is the defense mechanism of projection, which can be defined as seeing in others unacceptable feelings or tendencies that actually reside in one’s own unconscious (Freud, 1915/1957b). For example, a man may consistently interpret the actions of older women as attempted seductions. Consciously, the thought of sexual intercourse with older women may be intensely repugnant to him, but buried in his unconscious is a strong erotic attraction to these women. In this example, the young man deludes himself into believing that he has no sexual feelings for older women. Although this projection erases most of his anxiety and guilt, it permits him to maintain a sexual interest in women who remind him of his mother.
An extreme type of projection is paranoia, a mental disorder characterized by powerful delusions of jealousy and persecution. Paranoia is not an inevitable out- come of projection but simply a severe variety of it. According to Freud (1922/1955), a crucial distinction between projection and paranoia is that paranoia is always characterized by repressed homosexual feelings toward the persecutor. Freud believed that the persecutor is inevitably a former friend of the same sex, although sometimes people may transfer their delusions onto a person of the opposite sex. When homosexual impulses become too powerful, persecuted paranoiacs defend themselves by reversing these feelings and then projecting them onto their original object. For men, the transformation proceeds as follows. Instead of saying, “I love him,” the paranoid person says, “I hate him.” Because this also produces too much anxiety, he says, “He hates me.” At this point, the person has disclaimed all responsibility and can say, “I like him fine, but he’s got it in for me.” The central mechanism in all paranoia is projection with accompanying delusions of jealousy and persecution…

Are conservatives at high-stakes Vatican summit overplaying their hand? - October 16, 2015
VATICAN CITY (RNS) Ever since a Vatican summit last year raised the possibility of making the church more open to those whose family lives may not mirror the Catholic ideal, conservative foes have been in uproar, waging an intense campaign to block any reforms from being adopted.
Yet as a follow-up meeting this month has progressed, the enthusiasm of the traditionalists could be overwhelming their tactical judgment — annoying and even angering enough of their fellow bishops they may have weakened what was once considered a strong position.
Still, the conservatives may also have created enough disarray and disagreement to ice any significant moves toward change, or taint any proposals they may offer to Pope Francis when the meeting, called a synod, concludes on Oct. 25 after three intense weeks.
The most public, and, for the conservatives, embarrassing episode came earlier this week with the leak of a private letter to the pope from 13 cardinals opposed to reforms.
In the letter, the senior churchmen complained that Francis had set up this meeting of 270 bishops from around the world in a way that would favor reformers who want, for example, to adopt a new approach to gays and lesbians or find a way that divorced and remarried Catholics could receive Communion…

At either end of this possible continuum - there is a distortion of the reality of homosexuality to the extreme. And this is definitely caused in early childhood years by the influence of antigay social and religious norms that seriously disrupt the emotional developmental process of learning how to be loved and to love and feel one with another - on a number of different levels. And how this disruption is played out in adulthood is visibly displayed throughout the Vatican.

Another, common denominator among the homosexual clerics associated with the Vatican is that it is closeted. Being closeted repressed or being closeted uninhibited are both connected to lifelong harmful effects caused in early childhood. The one person, in the Vatican, who stood up - out of the closet, Monsignor Krzysztof Charamsa, was truly a honest and mentally healthy individual, who came to terms with the reality of his sexuality - and this one the Vatican threw out faster than lightning (http://americamagazine.org/content/dispatches/vatican-dismisses-official-declaring-hes-gay-and-has-partner-eve-synod). The manner of his removal is more revealing about the overall unhealthiness and the degree of the severity of the repressed homosexuals that exists among the members of the curia. Living one’s life in a closet - can never be a good thing, for anyone’s sense of well-being, in addition, it also makes one easy prey to be exploited.

Becoming Gay: The Journey to Self-Acceptance - by Richard Isay MD, 1996
“Becoming Gay” answers those whose approach to homosexuality is summed up in the phrase “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Isay argues that a closeted life is psychologically unhealthy. Instead, he offers gay men a model for achieving a positive gay identity. His most recent book, Commitment and Healing, is the capstone to Isay’s nearly 30 years of treating gay men. He’s convinced that while sustaining committed relationships is difficult for all couples, gay men find it especially so.
Too many gay men have given up on the idea that sustained intimacy is either possible or desirable, Isay argues. He is skeptical of the claims made by many gay men that long-term committed relationships are restrictive and “undemocratic.” These are the justifications, he argues, “of men whose history of parental and social rejection has made it especially difficult for them to develop trust that their needs will be met.”…

The above is all associated with the lifelong harmful effects caused by the Vatican’s teachings on homosexuality to children beginning and lasting throughout their early childhood years growing up gay. And the above devastating harmful effects noted - are more than substantiated proof that these teachings are unsubstantiated. They do not represent truth. They are severely harmful to the innocent lives of children for life, and therefore, they do not represent God’s love, in the least. So, on that fact alone the Vatican’s teachings on homosexuality should all be renounced, immediately - for the safety of the lives of children, globally.

Show me one Church document or Church teaching that approves of slowly and continuously torturing children for life - beginning in their early childhood years! And then tell me how the Vatican's teachings on homosexuality have any substantiation! How many more live examples of the lifelong harmful effects caused by the Vatican teachings on homosexuality do you need? The Vatican has all the extremes examples and everything in between - of these lifelong harmful effects being played out in real time. The two sessions of the Synod on Family 2014 and 2015 has outed practical the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy, except for those who were willing to openly discuss the issues of being welcoming of gay people and valuing gay loving committed relationships.  And because I am concerned about the protection of children - in a way that would have prevented the lifelong suffering that the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are experiencing and - I am to be removed from the priesthood?!? PAZZO!!! Now, who needs to see a shrink? KIDS ARE BEING HURT!!!

Pope tells Roman Curia to "return to the essentials” - December 21, 2015
…3. Spirituality and humanity: spirituality is the backbone of all service in the Church and in the Christian life. It is what nourishes all our activity, sustaining and protecting it from human frailty and daily temptation. Humanity is what embodies the truthfulness of our faith; those who renounce their humanity renounce everything. Humanity is what makes us different from machines and robots which feel nothing and are never moved. Once we find it hard to weep seriously or to laugh heartily, we have begun our decline and the process of turning from “humans” into something else. Humanity is knowing how to show tenderness and fidelity and courtesy to all (cf. Phil 4:5). Spirituality and humanity, while innate qualities, are a potential needing to be activated fully, attained completely and demonstrated daily.
4. Example and fidelity: Blessed Paul VI reminded the Curia of “its calling to set an example”. An example of avoiding scandals which harm souls and impair the credibility of our witness. Fidelity to our consecration, to our vocation, always mindful of the words of Christ, “Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much” (Lk 16:10) and “If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world for stumbling blocks! Occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to the one by whom the stumbling block comes” (Mt 18:6-7)…

..let us savour the magnificent prayer, commonly attributed to Blessed Oscar Arnulfo Romero, but pronounced for the first time by

Every now and then it helps us to take a step back
and to see things from a distance.

The Kingdom is not only beyond our efforts, it is also beyond our visions.
In our lives, we manage to achieve only a small part
of the marvellous plan that is God’s work.
Nothing that we do is complete,
which is to say that the Kingdom is
greater than ourselves

Christmas Midnight Mass
Homily of Pope Francis
24 December 2015
Tonight “a great light” shines forth (Is 9:1); the light of Jesus’ birth shines all about us. How true and timely are the words of the prophet Isaiah which we have just heard: “You have brought abundant joy and great rejoicing” (9:2)! Our heart was already joyful in awaiting this moment; now that joy abounds and overflows, for the promise has been at last fulfilled. Joy and gladness are a sure sign that the message contained in the mystery of this night is truly from God. There is no room for doubt; let us leave that to the sceptics who, by looking to reason alone, never find the truth. There is no room for the indifference which reigns in the hearts of those unable to love for fear of losing something. All sadness has been banished, for the Child Jesus brings true comfort to every heart…

The road to Auschwitz was built by hate,
but paved with indifference.

Update: 12-15-2015

Overcome indifference and win peace: 2016 Peace Day Message - Pope Francis - Dec 15, 2015
...Kinds of indifference
3. Clearly, indifference is not something new; every period of history has known people who close their hearts to the needs of others, who close their eyes to what is happening around them, who turn aside to avoid encountering other people's problems. But in our day, indifference has ceased to be a purely personal matter and has taken on broader dimensions, producing a certain “globalization of indifference”.
The first kind of indifference in human society is indifference to God, which then leads to indifference to one’s neighbour and to the environment. This is one of the grave consequences of a false humanism and practical materialism allied to relativism and nihilism. We have come to to think that we are the source and creator of ourselves, our lives and society. We feel self-sufficient, prepared not only to find a substitute for God but to do completely without him. As a consequence, we feel that we owe nothing to anyone but ourselves, and we claim only rights…
In other cases, indifference shows itself in lack of concern for what is happening around us, especially if it does not touch us directly. Some people prefer not to ask questions or seek answers; they lead lives of comfort, deaf to the cry of those who suffer. Almost imperceptibly, we grow incapable of feeling compassion for others and for their problems; we have no interest in caring for them, as if their troubles were their own responsibility, and none of our business.[9] “When we are healthy and comfortable, we forget about others (something God the Father never does): we are unconcerned with their problems, their sufferings and the injustices they endure... Our heart grows cold. As long as I am relatively healthy and comfortable, I don’t think about those less well off.”[10]

God Forbid - We Are Proactive Protecting Children

God forbid that we should do something that is courageously proactive in way of the protection and well-being of children!!! God forbid that for once we should error in the way of charity - instead of - in the way of negligence, especially regarding children. What would the news media be like “The Catholic Church foolishly renounced all the Vatican’s teachings on homosexuality for the safety and well-being of all children globally.” The real damage to the Church - were the decades of the bishops’ child sexual abuse cover-ups, orchestrated by members of the curia. Children were not protected. WE need not continue to follow this pattern of negligence in caring for children. Where we go once the Vatican’s teachings on homosexuality are renounced - I really do not know. I only know that our first, foremost - priority is to make sure that the lives of all children are safe. To find out what we do next - I would have followed a process that is exactly what Pope Francis has been doing. I would seek advice and input from everyone. Photo

Part 1 - Ghosts in the - Synod of Bishops on Family - October 2014 - Repress Unacknowledged Need for Empathy?

Pope Francis, along with his entourage of diverse colleagues and experts had the right idea to first gather information from everyone around the world to be used as the foundation for the 2 sessions of the Synod on Family 2014, and 2015. This process involved removing homosexuality from the closet and then to openly discuss every facet of homosexuality, in the daylight. Supposedly, in good faith, free from all the ruthless vindictive retaliation tactics used over the past 30 years. Pope Francis more than one time, at the start of the Synod 2014, instructed the participants to speak freely and boldly without fear and to listen with humility.

Pope calls synod to speak 'boldly,' cardinal defends current teachings - Oct. 6, 2014
VATICAN CITY Pope Francis opened discussions at his worldwide meeting of Catholic bishops Monday by telling the prelates they should speak openly, without fear of upsetting him or limiting discussions to things he would want to hear…
"A general condition is this," said the pope. "Speak clearly. Let no one say: 'This you cannot say.’”…

Pope Francis Calls for Candor at Meeting on Family Issues - Oct. 6, 2014
VATICAN CITY — Setting the tone for a two-week meeting of Roman Catholic bishops, Pope Francis on Monday urged participants to speak openly and clearly, without fear of censure. He also called on the participants to listen to each other with humility and to respect differing opinions.
“Do not say: I cannot say this, if I do they will think badly of me. Speak freely of everything you believe,” Francis instructed the nearly 200 prelates assembled in the Vatican for the synod, which will chart the church’s course regarding family life in contemporary society.
“It is necessary to say everything that in the Lord we feel must be said,” without any concern that it might contradict the pope, he said. Holding back discussion “is not good,” Francis added, even as he exhorted the participants to “listen with humility and accept with an open heart all that our brothers say.”…

Pope Francis wanted open debate. With clashing cardinals, he’s got it - Oct. 2, 2014
…“Everybody is free to express his opinion…
“The pope wanted an open debate, and I think that is something new because up to now often there was not such an open debate. I think that’s healthy and it helps the church very much.”
Since his election in March last year, the pope has repeatedly said that the church needs to be more collegial and transparent. “Fraternal and open discussion help develop theological and pastoral thinking,” Francis has said. “I’m not afraid of this. On the contrary, I seek it.”…

The midterm report of the Synod 2014 - was exceptional - a phenomenal start, in the direction of protecting children. It far surpassed anyone’s wildest expectations that the Vatican could be so outright courageous of expressing the possibility of being more accepting in welcoming gay people and even to think of valuing gay loving committed relationships, in the way that God loves us all. It touched so deeply - the hearts and souls of millions and has not been forgotten.

Psychologically, I wish that there was a way to measure the amount of good will, on so many different levels that it had on people. Most importantly, what healing effect it may have had on people, who have thought, because of the way the world has so cruelly treated them, began to believe that even God has given up on them. It was a slice of heaven - because in some small way it was a statement that everyone matters in the world. Photo

A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.
John 13:34-35

It was similar to the effect that subtly happened - shortly after Pope Francis was elected to the papacy - and the world slowly learned of his decades of service to the poor. At the age of 76 - you either did or did not care for the poor. It was understood that he did not do it for show and that in some way - it was again an implicit statement that everyone matters in the world. No one should ever be forgotten. These phenomenal situations of simply plain acts of human respect and kindness - have a contagious effect, because there is nothing like being a part of something greater than one’s self that not only is renewing to the individual but for everyone else, as well. There seems to have been a few events that followed later that appeared to mirror the same kind of courageous acts of love. Photo

Truly I tell you, unless you
change and become like little children,
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this
child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever welcomes one such child in
my name welcomes me.
Matthew 18: 3-5

Synod 2015 - God’s Direction For The Church???

Though, regrettably this exceptionally phenomenal start - at the Synod 2014 and on through the second session 2015 was derailed. But even this derailment is of great significance, because it flushed out, and exposed - the degree of violence that exists among the repressed homosexual members of the curia and hierarchy. They were allowed for far too long - to hide behind the shield of the curial bureaucratic anonymity free for decades - from any accountability for their use of unethical and immoral tactics, such as those used throughout the Synod 2015. And this is how the corruption was allowed to grow in the Vatican. But in no way - should this derailment that succeeded in preventing the continuation of the open debate on welcoming gay people and valuing gay loving committed relationships to - be considered - as if it is God’s direction for the Church. This is because it was the violent use of tactics to prevent, to block any open discussion on homosexuality, and this is not the love of God.

Pope Francis 2010s - -  Hoodwinked - - Hunthausen 1980s
Perspective Shift

The way that the proceedings of the Synod 2015 were disrupted had one and only one object, as has been the situation for the last 30 years and that is to suppress any and all open discussion on homosexuality. However, as was the case at the Synod 2014 - those involved are no longer protected by the shield of crural bureaucratic anonymity and again seem completely oblivious that they were revealing way more than they intended. Their footsteps are evident. And these footsteps are unmasking their involvement in this same form of vindictive treatment that has been used against tens of thousand of people for the past 30 years.

Still - Absolutely No Accountability

And they remain having absolutely no accountability for the devastation they have caused, the lives they have destroyed and are still causing. We can, now, see that without any accountability - for the past 30 years - the level that this form of corruption has reached. This corruption and use of violence is solely targeted, as it has been for the last 30 years, at silencing and removing anyone who openly discusses the emerging science on homosexuality or the alternative scriptural interruptions on homosexuality or the resulting theological implications. It has now - reached the level of attacking and threatening the members of the curia and hierarchy, including Pope Francis participating in the Synod 2015. This crural form of corruption and use of violence - has been excessively rampant over the past 30 years, because the members of the curia and hierarchy who are responsible - have been protected behind the shield of bureaucratic anonymity and have absolutely never had to face the consequences for their criminal activity. Even now they are getting away with murder, a structural violence form of murder of millions (http://u.osu.edu/christie/files/2014/10/Section-II-Structural-Violence-Winter-Leighton-28aggie.pdf) (http://u.osu.edu/christie/about/peace-conflict-and-violence-peace-psychology-for-the-21st-century/).

Hunthausen - Kurylowicz - Pope Francis

The strategies that they used to disrupt the proceedings of the Synod 2015 and the efforts to destroy Pope Francis’ credibility are exactly the same old strategies of manipulation used against Archbishop Hunthausen in the 1980s, and as used against me, for the past 18 years, since I came out for the protection of children 1997. Again, the use of these strategies by members of the curia and hierarchy - are always related to silencing, removing or destroying a person’s credibility who openly discusses the subject of homosexuality. Photo

Perspective Shift” is one particular strategy that appears to be common used among the three of us. The strategy of shifting the perspective is related to the tension of how words are used and their meaning as applied to a specific conceptional framework to a question. It limits discussion and perception to a specific framework and missing the broader fully meaning of what is being presented as an issue.

It is shifting the perspective - the focus of a situation completely off the real issue being presented and onto  “one particular set of strictly intraecclesial perspectives” - it absolutely refuses to consider (tone-deaf) the complete essence of the a situation being presented. Hunthausen was being investigated by the CDF among others issues for his pastoral outreach to gay people. With Hunthausen the discussion with Ratzinger, head of the CDF, refused to hear any pastoral explanation from Hunthausen. This curt exchange between the two men has been recounted in a resent book by John McCoy, May 10, 2015, a brief excerpt is given below. The manner in which Hunthausen was treated by the curial staff member of the CDF was sharply rebuked by Archbishop Weakland and other bishops at the time in November 1986.

Perspective Shift…tries to frame the discussion of Hunthausen’s leadership within one particular set of strictly intraecclesial perspectives (the perspectives of the “human sciences” are excluded), Hunthausen invites his audience to (re)consider the same question according to the perspective of the Church “come of age” in the world. Hunthausen also seeks a perspective shift when he asks his hearers to evaluate the “justice” of Church procedures according to the standards of civil law…

Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger's Report Issued on Seattle Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen - September 30, 1985
… A final question of pastoral practice pertains to ministry to homosexual men and women. The Archdiocese should withdraw all support from any group, which does not unequivocally accept the teaching of the Magisterium concerning the intrinsic evil of homosexual activity. This teaching has been set forth in this Congregation's Declaration on Sexual Ethics and more recently in the document, Educational Guidance in Human Love, issued by the Congregation for Catholic Education in 1983. The ill-advised welcome of a pro-homosexual group to your cathedral, as well as events subsequent to the Apostolic Visitation, have served to make the Church's position appear to be ambiguous on this delicate but important issue. A compassionate ministry to homosexual persons must be developed that has as its clear goal the promotion of a chaste lifestyle. Particular care is to be exercised by any who represent the Archdiocese, to explain clearly the position of the Church on this question…

“A Still and Quiet Conscience: The Archbishop Who Challenged a Pope, a President and a Church
by John McCoy - book -  May 10, 2015
…Cardinal Josef Ratzinger rebukes Hunthausen for allowing the gay Catholic group Dignity to use St. James Cathedral. The Seattle archbishop replies by evoking John 8:11 in which the Pharisees bring to Jesus a woman caught in adultery and demand that she be stoned to death. Fireworks follow:
“Hunthausen was recounting the Gospel story when Ratzinger, his voice full of wrath, interrupted him. ‘Are you presuming to lecture me?'” he demanded.
“The archbishop paused, caught his breath and quietly continued. In regard to Dignity, he explained, ‘I tried to do what I thought Jesus would do. Jesus didn’t wait until people changed before he talked to them. He began a dialogue and I think that’s what they church ought to do with the gay community.’
“Infuriated, Ratzinger silenced him again. ‘Don’t preach to me,'” he said…

Archbishop Asks Rome To Ease Up - September 28, 1986
MILWAUKEE — Rembert George Weakland long has been regarded by his peers as the brightest member of the hierarchy in the American Roman Catholic Church...has politely but forthrightly told the Vatican to, in effect, soften its drive to coerce doctrinal uniformity by punishing dissenters.
He asserted that Draconian measures used throughout Christian history to silence those who challenge traditional church teaching have resulted in “much cruelty, suppression of theological creativity and lack of growth…”
Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton of Detroit predicted that the “cruel (and) demeaning” treatment of Archbishop Hunthausen would effectively “intimidate” his fellow prelates…
…in his columns, titled “The Price of Orthodoxy,” Archbishop Weakland appeared to be directing his remarks to Vatican inquisitors.
He contended that previous efforts to monitor and safeguard Catholic doctrine have been undertaken in an atmosphere where “amateurs-turned-theologians easily became headhunters and leaders were picked (on the basis of) the rigidity of their doctrine, so that often second-rate and repressive minds, riding on the waves of fear, took over.
“Religion under such circumstances then can become an ideology that tolerates no obstacle and that values ideas more than people…”

Justice

It is quite interesting that my situation also, deals with the issues of “justice” that is non-existent in the Vatican in comparison the the “procedures according to the standards of civil law.” This is also related to the fact that there is no accountability of the members of the curia - during the 1980s with Hunthausen and even less with my situation from 1997 to the present. And I believe as Pope Francis has experienced the same - regarding the criminal activity by likely the same members of the curia and hierarchy who disrupted the Synod proceedings and made attacks against his credibility. They are the same, who are attempting remove me from the priesthood without cause, any cause. In addition, they are attempting to remove me without making justified reparation for the irreparable harm they have caused to my reputation and credibility, in the same way that they attacked Pope Francis’s credibility by leaking false rumors that he has a brain tumor.

This inhuman treatment is also, a major part of the decades of entrenched corruption that has existed in the curia - harming millions of lives. However, it does provide first hand documentation for my immediate appeal, including that justified reparation being made directly by the Vatican. How many people in the Church before me have been treated as inhumanly - excluded from the system of justice that the rest of humanity has access to? This complete absence of justice is - a reenactment of the way the Nazis treated the people they arbitrary deemed as subhumans that allowed them to commit the atrocities that by the end to World War II led to the deaths of 70 million people.

Thinking sets the agenda for action, and thinking of humans as less than human paves the way for atrocity. The Nazis were explicit about the status of their victims. They were Untermenschen — subhumans — and as such were excluded from the system of moral rights and obligations that bind humankind together. It's wrong to kill a person, but permissible to exterminate a rat. To the Nazis, all the Jews, Gypsies and others were rats: dangerous, disease-carrying rats…

A new command I give you: Love one another.

John 13:34-35

Any attempt to save face in a sense of collegiality among the members of curia and hierarchy - by discrediting even in the slightest the person with the protocol number 20131723/F or refusing proper restitution - for the harm inflicted upon me by the Vatican - with all due respect, if you will pardon the expression - you can kiss your ass - Good-by!

I say this in no way to protect myself - because the issue is not about me it is about truth and children - all children globally.  The only thing I can be accused of - is resisting risking my life - in standing up for children, by “coming out.” And isn't that the very core of what it means to be a priest that we willingly sacrifice our lives for others, most especially for children! Or did you become a priest so that you could wear a dress! I willingly admit - I tried to get out of what I knew I had to do, however, now - it has been passed on to you. Photo

I will explain, as I have written to many US politicians, how I handled this situation:

WELL-INFORMED CONSCIENCE
Protect Religious Freedom - but not
Tyranny in Religion
June 20, 2011
The way to begin for us all, not only the NY State Senators, to protect Religious Freedom and not Tyranny in Religion is by obtaining a well-informed conscience.  We start by individually approaching and studying in great detail, because it involves the lives of children, from the best and the brightest (1) scripture scholars regarding the references related to homosexuality and (2) scientists in the field of study of human sexuality, in particular, but [not] limited to, the onset of sexual orientation. The prerequisite to the formation of a well-informed conscience is making a thorough study of all sides of the issue from all available authoritative data and research, including opposing views. Then in this way we are better equipped to decide who and what needs government protection in regards to the gay marriage bill. This exhaustive procedure follows to the letter the Gospel quotation about the “plank” and the” speck.”

How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Luke 6:42

The “plank” for us is ignorance.  If we satisfactorily resolve this ignorance, then together we will be able to see more clearly, whether or not, as NY State Senators (government officials) and as citizens we are colluding with the Catholic Hierarchy and are harming children, as was found to be the case in the Ireland Murphy Report.
…This piece of legislation the gay marriage bill is not like any other in that it involves the well-being of children, at its very root…
How I resolved this situation was through hours upon hours of continuous prayer. Afterwards, I came to the realization that my life had already been altered – changed forever. Because there was no way I could pretend I did not know what I knew, how severely children are harmed for life by the Vatican unsubstantiated antigay teachings and antigay social norms. I decided that I could not live with the regret knowing that I had a chance to make a profound difference for the better for others, most especially children and that I did nothing. My life would be nothing. I took the bungee jump and I came out to my parishioners. It definitely was not easy, but one thing that happened to me is - I gained a real sense of peace and well-being that has remained constant and unshaken. The scripture passages that kept repeating over and over in my head were:

For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
Matthew 16:25

Overcome indifference and win peace: 2016 Peace Day Message - Pope Francis  - Dec 15, 2015
..Kinds of indifference

October 8, 2005 - Impending rules on gay priests creates Catholic divide
…Rev. Martin Kurylowicz...said...the struggle would be made harder for many others if the Vatican issues new rules that reportedly would ban gays from becoming priests… “Kids as young as 4 or 5 know they're different," said Kurylowicz... "They grow up with this pervasive guilt, which sabotages their growth and motivation." The result is thousands of dollars in therapy to accept their natural orientation, he said, adding, "Does the Vatican want to take that on, like the tobacco industry had to take on for the damage it caused consumers?”...

May 27, 2006 - Gay priest removed from ministry
(check The Grand Rapids Press for accuracy)
Note: Bishop Hurley unethically manipulates canon law misrepresenting my situation: by excluding the factual details of the Vatican’s equally unethical punitive sanctions and threats imposed on me for “coming out” for the protection of children in March 1997, e.g. lost of the possibility of future assignments, regular priest salary and educational benefits, to  coerce my compliance to be reeducated - to assure my silence in protecting children or to force me to leave the priesthood. Hurley’s dishonest response to the press was meant to destroy my credibility and reputation. Hurley also disclosed the cost of my psychotherapy sessions, a breach of employer employee confidentially. There are No USA civil laws to protect gay priests from such a fatal destructive public attack on my reputation. The same tactic was used, again in 2012, against Vatican Bank, ex-president Tedeschi, who was attempting to increase the transparency of the scandal-ridden Vatican institution. There is “…the publication of a letter from a psychotherapist detailing the mental health of the Vatican's recently ousted bank chief…and appeared aimed at further discrediting and humiliating the Vatican bank's ex-president, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, once a top papal adviser…”(http://www.businessweek.com/ap/2012-06/D9VBK7581.htm

Hurley’s deliberate distortion of the facts of my situation was meant to humiliate me publicly, a character assassination against me. This was not just one single isolated character assassination attack made against me. The exact pattern of this character assassination attack, since 2004 to 2014  has been over used by the Vatican under Benedict XVI - against anyone - deemed as a threat to their specific ideology, especially related to gay sexual orientation. On, April 30, 2014, Cardinal Muller of the CDF, issued a forceful public statement against the LCWR leaders that is confusing and irrationally based on a misrepresentation of unsubstantiated facts. Cardinal Burke during and after the Synod on the Family, October 2014 - fiercely demonstrated by his unwillingness to even discuss issues related marriage and gay sexual orientation, the pervasive hostile attitude against homosexuality.

December 17, 2009 - Roman Catholic hierarchy child sexual abuse “cover-ups” ordered by Benedict XVI to avoid public outrage & criminal charges falsely accused gay priests, WATERGATE? Fr. Marty Kurylowicz
...A major problem with the hierarchical structure of the Roman Catholic Church is that there are no “checks and balances.” When the necessary “checks and balances” are not in place to protect any organization, it leaves "not making waves" the rule that governs the hierarchy and opens the way to many devastating mistakes harmful to everyone and allows corruption to grow...

February 10, 2013 - Fr. Kurylowicz’s letter sent to US government officials...
I made an appeal to counteract Bishop Hurley’s manipulation of canon law in order to be able to charge me on a technicality “not returning home” by separating it from the situation that caused it after I came out 1997. Letter gives an extensive accounting of my “coming out” situation of 1997 - not separated from Hurley’s charges against me.

Justice everywhere

What you cannot do is accept injustice.

You must make the injustice visible

Kids Are Being Hurt!!!

“Someday, maybe, there will exist a well-informed,
well considered and yet fervent public conviction that
the most deadly of all
possible sins
is the mutilation of
a child’s spirit.”

…whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:6

Important note: No disrespect meant to Pope Benedict XVI or the hierarchy, the one and only concern is the safety and well-being of children.
