Rowling Lets Dumbledore Out of the Closet – Hanna Siegel – October 20, 2007 – ABC News

Well, it's official. Albus Dumbledore, a hero of the phenomenally popular Harry Potter series and headmaster of the wizarding school Hogwarts, is gay.

That's right, Harry's mentor and father-figure would prefer a nice wizard to a hot witch any day.

In a surprising new Potter twist, author J.K. Rowling outed Dumbledore at New York's Carnegie Hall in front of 2,000 Potter fans during a question and answer session Friday night.

After reading an excerpt from the seventh installment of her series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," one young fan asked if Dumbledore had ever loved anyone.

"Dumbledore is gay, actually," replied Rowling.

She was initially met with a surprised silence but ultimately the audience erupted in cheers for several minutes prompting Rowling to add, "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy." Read more:

Benedict XVI’ New Mass Translation, Should Be POSTPONED INDEFINITELY Children First, In The Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ

First and Foremost Assure Protection of Children Globally, Transparency Independent Investigations, Restitution Made To Victims Before Benedict XVI’ New Mass Translation, Should Be POSTPONED INDEFINITELY In The Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ

It had been reported that the reason Benedict XVI, as Cardinal Ratzinger should be excused from any culpability for the reassigning of pedophile clergy, because he was heavily involved in theological issues, which before God is no excuse.  Now, Benedict XVI and the hierarchy are involved in the negligence of globally failing to protect children, which has not been resolved only covered up again. Benedict XVI appears to be repeating the same irresponsible behavior regarding the safety and well-being of children, with all due respect.  To remain silent regarding this issue is to collude with this travesty of justice to children and the victims of child sexual abuse – a sacrilege committed every time we would celebrate this new mass of Benedict XVI.

The Blind Side - Oscar acceptance speech of Sandra Bullock - Hot Indie News

Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down? I would like to thank the Academy for allowing me in the last month to have the most incredible ride with rooms full of artists that I see tonight and that I’ve worked with before and I hope to work with in the future, who inspire me and blaze trails for us. Four of them that I’ve fallen deeply in love with I share this night with and I share this award with. Photo

Gabby, I love you so much. You are exquisite. You are beyond words to me. Carey, your grace and your elegance and your beauty and your talent makes me sick. Helen, I feel like we are family through family and I don’t have the words to express just what I think of you. And Meryl, you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser.

I have so many people to thank for my good fortune in this lifetime and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I know. To the family that allowed me to play them, the Tuohy family, I know they’re in here and you’ll probably hear her in a minute. Maybe not. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to… the family that made this film that gave me the opportunity to do something different. John Lee Hancock, Gil Netter, Alcon, Warner Bros., the actors, everyone who’s shown me kindness when it wasn’t fashionable, I thank you. To everyone who was mean to me when it wasn’t… George Clooney threw me in a pool years ago. I’m still holding a grudge. But there’s so many people to thank. Photo

Not enough time, so I would like to thank what this film is about for me which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from. Those moms and parents never get thanked. I, in particular, failed to thank one. So… if I can take this moment to thank Helga B. for not letting me ride in cars with boys until I was 18 because she was right. I would’ve done what she said I was gonna do. For making me practice every day when I got home. Piano, ballet, whatever it is I wanted to be. She said to be an artist, you had to practice every day, and for reminding her daughters that there’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love. So, to that trailblazer, who allowed me to have that. And this. And this. I thank you so much for this opportunity that I share with these extraordinary women and my lover Meryl Streep. Thank you.

J. K. Rowling – A Remarkably Courageous Woman beyond the Fame - Doing " … Her Best She Could With the Talents She Had”

J. K. Rowling

Importance of Children & Reading

By Fr. Marty Kurylowicz, Thalamus Center

I wanted to but never had the time because of my grueling work and study schedule (5:00am -10:00pm), and lack of funds, after I came out 1997, to read and view the “Harry Potter” movies. I learned about J.K. Rowling being on the University campus and from people working for community mental health and their positive reactions to “Harry Potter” and renewed sense of hope. She managed to touch the lives of millions people by her writings. If her books are anything like how she has lived her life, it would explain their worldwide popularity.

As we come to the end of the first decade of the 21st century, we have witnessed many of our public figures both in government and in the Church dropping to an unprecedented low level of blatant immorality and ignorance, and a total disregard of the poor and children. It was like a return to the “Dark Ages” a period in history void of intellectual thought and unbelievable corruption in both church and state.

J.K. Rowling in her quiet nature becomes a bright beacon of hope in her morally neural writing style managing to keep alive the importance of love, loyalty, trust, integrity and the need to stand up against evil. By her determination facing the overwhelming struggles and major disappointments in her life, gives us an example of hope struggling to do our best with the talents we have against seemly all odds, making a difference for the better. She kept alive what we expected from our leaders in both state and church. At a time that has forgotten about the importance of children, she gave to our children hope and a way to live that can benefit everyone. During her struggles in her life, she never expected it to turn out as it has for her. I was most impressed with her work at Amnesty International in London, as she describes in her Commencement Address at Harvard, June 5, 2008. 41,552

She has given an interview to ABC News, explaining more about what her life was like before the fame of “Harry Potter.” Read more and video 665 ABC News interview Photo

J.K. Rowling - The Power of Human Empathy, Leading to Collective Action, Saves Lives, and Frees Prisoners

…Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not,
…it is the power that enables us to empathise with humans whose experiences we have never shared.
One of the greatest formative experiences of my life preceded Harry Potter, though it informed much of what I subsequently wrote in those books. This revelation came in the form of one of my earliest day jobs… in my early 20s by working at the African research department at Amnesty International’s headquarters in London.
…I saw photographs of those who had disappeared without trace, sent to Amnesty by their desperate families and friends. I read the testimony of torture victims and saw pictures of their injuries. I opened handwritten, eye-witness accounts of summary trials and executions, of kidnappings and rapes…
…Every day, I saw more evidence about the evils humankind will inflict on their fellow humans, to gain or maintain power. I began to have nightmares, literal nightmares, about some of the things I saw, heard, and read.
And yet I also learned more about human goodness at Amnesty International than I had ever known before.
Amnesty mobilises thousands of people who have never been tortured or imprisoned for their beliefs to act on behalf of those who have. The power of human empathy, leading to collective action, saves lives, and frees prisoners. Ordinary people, whose personal well-being and security are assured, join together in huge numbers to save people they do not know, and will never meet. My small participation in that process was one of the most humbling and inspiring experiences of my life.
Unlike any other creature on this planet, humans can learn and understand, without having experienced. They can think themselves into other people’s places.
… One might use such an ability to manipulate, or control, just as much as to understand or sympathise.
...And many prefer not to exercise their imaginations at all. They choose to remain comfortably within the bounds of their own experience, never troubling to wonder how it would feel to have been born other than they are. They can refuse to hear screams or to peer inside cages; they can close their minds and hearts to any suffering that does not touch them personally; they can refuse to know.

...Choosing to live in narrow spaces leads to a form of mental agoraphobia, and that brings its own terrors. I think the wilfully unimaginative see more monsters. They are often more afraid.
What is more, those who choose not to empathise enable real monsters. For without ever committing an act of outright evil ourselves, we collude with it, through our own apathy.
...If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the powerful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not only be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and millions of people whose reality you have helped change. We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.
… As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters. I wish you all very good lives.
