“THE ADVOCATE” - Person of the Year: Pope Francis - 2013

The Advocate's Person of the Year: Pope Francis - 2013

Brief Excerpt:

...The most influential person of 2013 doesn't come from our ongoing legal conflict but instead from our spiritual one — successes from which are harder to define. There has not been any vote cast or ruling issued, and still a significant and unprecedented shift took place this year in how LGBT people are considered by one of the world's largest faith communities.

Pope Francis is leader of
1.2 billion Roman Catholics all over the world. There are three times as many Catholics in the world than there are citizens in the United States. Like it or not, what he says makes a difference. Sure, we all know Catholics who fudge on the religion's rules about morality. There's a lot of disagreement, about the role of women, about contraception, and more. But none of that should lead us to underestimate any pope's capacity for persuading hearts and minds in opening to LGBT people, and not only in the U.S. but globally.

The remaining holdouts for LGBT acceptance in religion, the ones who block progress in the work left to do, will more likely be persuaded by a figure they know. In the same way that President Obama transformed politics with his evolution on LGBT civil rights, a change from the pope could have a lasting effect on religion...

...what Francis does say about LGBT people has already caused reflection and consternation within his church. The moment that grabbed headlines was during a flight from Brazil to Rome. When asked about gay priests, Pope Francis told reporters, according to a translation from Italian, "If someone is gay and seeks the Lord with good will, who am I to judge?"

The brevity of that statement and the outsized attention it got immediately are evidence of the pope's sway. His posing a simple question with very Christian roots, when uttered in this context by this man, "Who am I to judge?" became a signal to Catholics and the world that the new pope is not like the old pope.

Francis's view on how the Catholic Church should approach LGBT people was best explained in his own words during
an in-depth interview with America magazine in September. He recalled, “A person once asked me, in a provocative manner, if I approved of homosexuality. I replied with another question: ‘Tell me: when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person?’ We must always consider the person.”

President Obama Quotes Pope Francis In Speech About Income Inequality - 12/4/13

President Obama Quotes Pope Francis In Speech About Income Inequality - 12/4/13
The Pope is making the world sit up and pay attention to poverty with his dedication to serving the poor, and it looks like world leaders are taking a leaf out of his book, including President Obama.
During a Wednesday speech on income equality, Obama remarked, "Across the developed world, inequality has increased. Some of you may have seen just last week, the pope himself spoke about this at eloquent length."
He went on to quote a line from Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation "Evangelii Gaudium," asking, "How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?"... Photo

Obama: Income Inequality a Defining Challenge - 12/4/13
President Barack Obama prodded Congress to raise wages and secure the social safety net as he issued an overarching appeal Wednesday to correct economic inequalities that he said make it harder for a child to escape poverty. "That should offend all of us," he declared.  "We are a better country than this."
Focusing on the pocketbook issues that Americans consistently rank as a top concern, Obama argued that the dream of upward economic mobility is breaking down and that the growing income gap is a "defining challenge of our time."
...The speech coincided with growing national and international attention to economic disparities — from the writings of Pope Francis to the protests of fast-food workers in the U.S. Obama recalled the pope's words, the deeds of past presidents as well as his own personal story as a young boy with a financially struggling mother...

Obama says income inequality is defining challenge for U.S. - 12/4/13
...The speech comes amid growing national and international attention to economic disparities - from the writings of Pope Francis to the protests of fast-food workers in the U.S. The president cited the pope's question of how it isn't news when an elderly homeless person dies from exposure, but news when stock market loses two points...

The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
Remarks by the President on Economic Mobility - 12/4/13
White House
...Nevertheless, during the post-World War II years, the economic ground felt stable and secure for most Americans, and the future looked brighter than the past.  And for some, that meant following in your old man’s footsteps at the local plant, and you knew that a blue-collar job would let you buy a home, and a car, maybe a vacation once in a while, health care, a reliable pension.  For others, it meant going to college -- in some cases, maybe the first in your family to go to college.  And it meant graduating without taking on loads of debt, and being able to count on advancement through a vibrant job market.
Now, it’s true that those at the top, even in those years, claimed a much larger share of income than the rest:  The top 10 percent consistently took home about one-third of our national income.  But that kind of inequality took place in a dynamic market economy where everyone’s wages and incomes were growing.  And because of upward mobility, the guy on the factory floor could picture his kid running the company some day.
But starting in the late ‘70s, this social compact began to unravel.  Technology made it easier for companies to do more with less, eliminating certain job occupations.  A more competitive world lets companies ship jobs anywhere.  And as good manufacturing jobs automated or headed offshore, workers lost their leverage, jobs paid less and offered fewer benefits.
As values of community broke down, and competitive pressure increased, businesses lobbied Washington to weaken unions and the value of the minimum wage.  As a trickle-down ideology became more prominent, taxes were slashed for the wealthiest, while investments in things that make us all richer, like schools and infrastructure, were allowed to wither.  And for a certain period of time, we could ignore this weakening economic foundation, in part because more families were relying on two earners as women entered the workforce.  We took on more debt financed by a juiced-up housing market.  But when the music stopped, and the crisis hit, millions of families were stripped of whatever cushion they had left.
And the result is an economy that’s become profoundly unequal, and families that are more insecure.  I’ll just give you a few statistics.  Since 1979, when I graduated from high school, our productivity is up by more than 90 percent, but the income of the typical family has increased by less than eight percent.  Since 1979, our economy has more than doubled in size, but most of that growth has flowed to a fortunate few.
The top 10 percent no longer takes in one-third of our income -- it now takes half.  Whereas in the past, the average CEO made about 20 to 30 times the income of the average worker, today’s CEO now makes 273 times more.  And meanwhile, a family in the top 1 percent has a net worth 288 times higher than the typical family, which is a record for this country.
So the basic bargain at the heart of our economy has frayed.  In fact, this trend towards growing inequality is not unique to America’s market economy.  Across the developed world, inequality has increased.  Some of you may have seen just last week, the Pope himself spoke about this at eloquent length.  “How can it be,” he wrote, “that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?”... Photo

No to an economy of exclusion

53. Just as the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, today we also have to say “thou shalt not” to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills. How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points? This is a case of exclusion. Can we continue to stand by when food is thrown away while people are starving? This is a case of inequality. Today everything comes under the laws of competition and the survival of the fittest, where the powerful feed upon the powerless. As a consequence, masses of people find themselves excluded and marginalized: without work, without possibilities, without any means of escape. Photo

Human beings are themselves considered consumer goods to be used and then discarded. We have created a “throw away” culture which is now spreading. It is no longer simply about exploitation and oppression, but something new. Exclusion ultimately has to do with what it means to be a part of the society in which we live; those excluded are no longer society’s underside or its fringes or its disenfranchised – they are no longer even a part of it. The excluded are not the “exploited” but the outcast, the “leftovers”.

54. In this context, some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system. Meanwhile, the excluded are still waiting. To sustain a lifestyle which excludes others, or to sustain enthusiasm for that selfish ideal, a globalization of indifference has developed. Almost without being aware of it, we end up being incapable of feeling compassion at the outcry of the poor, weeping for other people’s pain, and feeling a need to help them, as though all this were someone else’s responsibility and not our own. The culture of prosperity deadens us; we are thrilled if the market offers us something new to purchase. In the meantime all those lives stunted for lack of opportunity seem a mere spectacle; they fail to move us.

No to the new idolatry of money

55. One cause of this situation is found in our relationship with money, since we calmly accept its dominion over ourselves and our societies. The current financial crisis can make us overlook the fact that it originated in a profound human crisis: the denial of the primacy of the human person! We have created new idols. The worship of the ancient golden calf (cf. Ex 32:1-35) has returned in a new and ruthless guise in the idolatry of money and the dictatorship of an impersonal economy lacking a truly human purpose. The worldwide crisis affecting finance and the economy lays bare their imbalances and, above all, their lack of real concern for human beings; man is reduced to one of his needs alone: consumption.

56. While the earnings of a minority are growing exponentially, so too is the gap separating the majority from the prosperity enjoyed by those happy few. This imbalance is the result of ideologies which defend the absolute autonomy of the marketplace and financial speculation. Consequently, they reject the right of states, charged with vigilance for the common good, to exercise any form of control. A new tyranny is thus born, invisible and often virtual, which unilaterally and relentlessly imposes its own laws and rules. Debt and the accumulation of interest also make it difficult for countries to realize the potential of their own economies and keep citizens from enjoying their real purchasing power. To all this we can add widespread corruption and self-serving tax evasion, which have taken on worldwide dimensions. The thirst for power and possessions knows no limits. In this system, which tends to devour everything which stands in the way of increased profits, whatever is fragile, like the environment, is defenseless before the interests of a deified market, which become the only rule.

No to a financial system which rules rather than serves

57. Behind this attitude lurks a rejection of ethics and a rejection of God. Ethics has come to be viewed with a certain scornful derision. It is seen as counterproductive, too human, because it makes money and power relative. It is felt to be a threat, since it condemns the manipulation and debasement of the person. In effect, ethics leads to a God who calls for a committed response which is outside the categories of the marketplace. When these latter are absolutized, God can only be seen as uncontrollable, unmanageable, even dangerous, since he calls human beings to their full realization and to freedom from all forms of enslavement. Ethics – a non-ideological ethics – would make it possible to bring about balance and a more humane social order. With this in mind, I encourage financial experts and political leaders to ponder the words of one of the sages of antiquity: “Not to share one’s wealth with the poor is to steal from them and to take away their livelihood. It is not our own goods which we hold, but theirs”.[55]

58. A financial reform open to such ethical considerations would require a vigorous change of approach on the part of political leaders. I urge them to face this challenge with determination and an eye to the future, while not ignoring, of course, the specifics of each case. Money must serve, not rule! The Pope loves everyone, rich and poor alike, but he is obliged in the name of Christ to remind all that the rich must help, respect and promote the poor. I exhort you to generous solidarity and to the return of economics and finance to an ethical approach which favours human beings...

  33. Pastoral ministry in a missionary key seeks to abandon the complacent attitude that says: “We have always done it this way”. I invite everyone to be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of evangelization in their respective communities. A proposal of goals without an adequate communal search for the means of achieving them will inevitably prove illusory. I encourage everyone to apply the guidelines found in this document generously and courageously, without inhibitions or fear. The important thing is to not walk alone, but to rely on each other as brothers and sisters, and especially under the leadership of the bishops, in a wise and realistic pastoral discernment. Photo
  47. The Church is called to be the house of the Father, with doors always wide open. One concrete sign of such openness is that our church doors should always be open, so that if someone, moved by the Spirit, comes there looking for God, he or she will not find a closed door. There are other doors that should not be closed either. Everyone can share in some way in the life of the Church; everyone can be part of the community, nor should the doors of the sacraments be closed for simply any reason. This is especially true of the sacrament which is itself “the door”: baptism. The Eucharist, although it is the fullness of sacramental life, is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.[51]These convictions have pastoral consequences that we are called to consider with prudence and boldness. Frequently, we act as arbiters of grace rather than its facilitators. But the Church is not a tollhouse; it is the house of the Father, where there is a place for everyone, with all their problems.
205. I ask God to give us more politicians capable of sincere and effective dialogue aimed at healing the deepest roots – and not simply the appearances – of the evils in our world! Politics, though often denigrated, remains a lofty vocation and one of the highest forms of charity, inasmuch as it seeks the common good.[174] We need to be convinced that charity “is the principle not only of micro-relationships (with friends, with family members or within small groups) but also of macro-relationships (social, economic and political ones)”.[175] I beg the Lord to grant us more politicians who are genuinely disturbed by the state of society, the people, the lives of the poor! It is vital that government leaders and financial leaders take heed and broaden their horizons, working to ensure that all citizens have dignified workeducation and healthcare...

US Catholic bishops OPPOSE - US Senators - INCLUDING - LGBT PEOPLE in Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) - 11/4/13 Photo
Three prominent Catholic prelates—Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton, CA, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco, and Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore—have made it known that they plan to “work with leaders and all people of good will to end all forms of unjust discrimination, including against those who experience same sex attraction.” This they said in a letter mailed to US senators.
What’s that now? Are US bishops taking Pope Francis’s message of focusing on poverty rather than homosexuality to heart? Are Catholic bishops going on-the-record in support of the marginalized and oppressed? Is this a sign of a new era in US Catholicism, the one heralded by lefty Catholics who have expressed unabashed hope in the new pope?
...Catholic bishops apparently feel that discriminating against LGBT people in the workplace is not only just, but in fact, not being able to do so threatens their religious liberty. So the USCCB is appealing to lawmakers to vote against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)...

Editorial: Put concrete realities on US bishops' agenda - 11/8/13
Anyone looking at the published agenda of the meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (see story) would say that an efficient, business-like organization could deal with that in half a day. The published agenda is beyond prosaic: approval of some liturgical translations, an election of officers, some committee reports, and a "presentation for a proposal to develop a formal statement on pornography." (Spoiler alert: They are against porn.)...
Pope Francis has been clear about what he expects of bishops: He has condemned in no uncertain terms clericalism and careerism. One of his earliest statements was that priests -- and by extension bishops -- should "be shepherds with the smell of sheep" on them. In late October, ordaining two archbishops, Francis told them: "Keep in mind that you were selected to serve, not to dominate."...

Unnecessary roughing: Why Catholic bishops should be more accepting of gay marriage - 11/19/13
As Gov. Pat Quinn prepares to sign a marriage equality bill on Wednesday, Catholic prelates continue to offer unnecessarily stinging words to gays and lesbians...
The words of Pope Francis offer important lessons that could guideoutraged prelates such as Springfield Bishop Thomas Paprocki, who is expected to lead prayers of supplication and exorcism for “the evil wrought by same-sex relations” during the bill-signing ceremony, and Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George, who has declared the bill “a bad law.”...

Study examines the roots of homophobia - 4/6/12
Acceptance of gays and lesbians has never been higher, but anti-gay bias still exists. A new study suggestsintense hostility toward homosexuals may be linked to a repressed same-sex attraction, combined with an authoritarian upbringing.
Though such factors are not the only cause of homophobia, the findings suggest those "who have a discrepancy within themselves about their expressed vs. unconscious sexual attraction find gay and lesbian people more threatening and are more likely to express prejudice and discrimination toward them," says University of Rochester psychology professor Richard Ryan, co-author of the study, which is published in the April Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Also an author is Netta Weinstein of the University of Essex, England...

Is Some Homophobia Self-Phobia?
Apr. 6, 2012 —Homophobia is more pronounced in individuals with an unacknowledged attraction to the same sex and who grew up with authoritarian parents who forbade such desires, a series of psychology studies demonstrates. Photo

The study is the first to document the role that both parenting and sexual orientation play in the formation of intense and visceral fear of homosexuals, including self-reported homophobic attitudes, discriminatory bias, implicit hostilitytowards gays, and endorsement of anti-gay policies. Conducted by a team from the University of Rochester, the University of Essex, England, and the University of California in Santa Barbara, the research will be published the April issue of the Journal of Personality and Social PsychologyPhoto
"Individuals who identify as straight but in psychological tests show a strong attraction to the same sex may be threatened by gays and lesbians because homosexuals remind them of similar tendencies within themselves," explains Netta Weinstein, a lecturer at the University of Essex and the study's lead author.
"In many cases these are people who are at war with themselves and they are turning this internal conflict outward," adds co-author Richard Ryan, professor of psychology at the University of Rochester who helped direct the research...

Attention U.S. bishops: Abortion is nothing like gay marriage - 11/19/13
On Wednesday, the Catholic bishop of Illinois, ThomasPaprocki, will perform an exorcism for the state of Illinois. That’s right, an exorcism – for the entire state. According to the teachings of the Catholic Church, entire places can become possessed by the devil, not just individuals. Paprocki is convinced that Illinois is now one such place, as the state legislature has passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, and Governor Pat Quinn plans to sign it on Wednesday...
Outrageous –and perhaps even a bit comical –as many might find the use of the rite of exorcism to make a political statement in the culture wars, the entire body of U.S. Catholic bishops has, in fact, implemented a far less theatrical, yet ever more serious plan in their attempt to sully the love and commitment of same-sex couples, along with their civil marriage equality, in the minds and hearts of lay Catholics. This is no laughing matter...

Archbishop Cordileone: DOMA ruling, ENDA passage put marriage at 'critical point'- 11/12/13
...The effects of ENDA, Cordileone said during a presentation Monday at the U.S. bishops' fall general meeting in Baltimore, "go much further" than preventing employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity to the point where "ENDA-like laws have contributed to the erosion and redefinition of marriage at the state level."
The bishops, though, voted 203-17, with five abstentions, to extend through 2016 a "Call to Prayer for Life, Marriage and Religious Freedom," originally intended to coincide with the now-ended Year of Faith and was itself scheduled to end with the Nov. 24 feast of Christ the King...

                                    Dear --- ----,

My name is Fr. Marty Kurylowicz, a Roman Catholic priest from the Diocese of Grand Rapids Michigan ordained June 16, 1979.

In March 1997, after attending a National Symposium of the New Ways Ministry that was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I learned that children as young as 4 and 5 years of age know that they are different. This feeling "different" is only identified in their adult years as being gay. However, the harmful influence of antigay social and religious norms -- in particular, for Catholics, the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings -- are severe and last throughout a child’s lifetime. The harmful effects are not isolated only to these children who grow up to be gay, but also affect their families, siblings, friends and anyone whom they might consider special in their lives. They are a prescribed societal sentence of implicit isolation, which place at risk of suicide so many innocent adolescents and young adults. They stifle an enormous amount of human potential in the world that otherwise could be put to use for finding cures for diseases, offering better ways of maintaining peace among people and improving the quality of life for everyone in the world.

After the New Ways Ministry National Symposium in March 1997, in good conscience I felt intensely morally obligated to "come out" as a gay Catholic priest to my parishioners at Holy Family Parish, Sparta, Michigan USA, to draw public attention to this implicit form of child abuse. This abuse is caused by the harmful influence of antigay social and religious norms, in particular, for Catholics, the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings. My background study in this area is extensive, far beyond that of the average person. However, since I have come out, I have been subjected to overt as well as covert retaliation coming from the Vatican through the bishops of the Diocese of Grand Rapids. I was ordered to be sent away to be re-educated regarding sexual orientation, to subject myself to conversion or reparative therapy--not a lobotomy, but similar. I refused to consent to this inhuman treatment because of the obvious clinical research data. And because I did so, in retaliation I lost my regular priest salary for the past 13 years, my earned sabbatical terms and my status for any future assignments in the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. Photo

At the same time, an insider to the Vatican
warned me that I could really get hurt severely by people in the Vatican. And even though this person was dead serious, I passed this warning off as being someone’s overactive imagination that was a bit bizarre. I thought, "After all, this is the USA, what do I have to fear?" However, this covert retaliation has been substantial. My car was repossessed in July 2009 and on June 26, 2010, I lost my home to foreclosure...   Photo

STRUCTURAL VIOLENCE and CHILDREN --- “Don’t Make Waves” --- Benedict XVI and Curia’s Child Sexual Abuse Cover-ups and Gay Obsession - 5/15/13

Who would I be serving by obeying Benedict XVI -

Instead of protecting Children, 1997? Photo

If I had remained silent, in 1997, about my sexual orientation and completely forgot my moral responsibility and human empathy to protect children, I could have avoided all the violence directed towards me from Benedict XVI for the past 16 years. However, according to this kind of sociopathic thinking, because I choose to stand up for the truth to protect the lives of children and prevent the self-perpetuation of violence - I am being blamed for all the vindictive attacks made against me. “The message is this: you wouldn’t have so many problems if you were less…YOU(”

Who would I be serving, if I remained silent about the truth of sexual orientation in 1997 and the violence being inflicted on children by the influence of unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms, i.e. the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings? I have always tried earnestly to build my life on truth. When I have made mistakes in the past, I’ve always tired to quickly own up and admit it, make amends and then begin again. I just was never good at lying, it is not that I am virtuous in this regard. I simply cannot remember consistently long enough that I told a lie, the what, how, who, when, and where I told it. This all creates tremendous anxiety trying to remember, including the nagging fact that I am a dishonest person, which all dissipates, once I just own up to the truth.

My silence in 1997, certainly would not be serving God by my ignoring the wealth of factual knowledge of a lifetime I acquired (through, academic studies, lectures, APA National Conventions, spiritual direction, personal psychotherapy, parents of LGBT children, LGBT university student and community centers) and refusing to protect children. For me to obey then Cardinal Ratzinger in 1997 (presently Benedict XVI) I would have had to disregard truth completely and the violence being done to children. This is the direct opposite of what God is all about. This is the very source of the deception and corruption that penetrates the Vatican‘s curia and beyond, which you are seeking to reform ( & & It is shocking even to imagine that I would be serving Benedict XVI’s fierce “intrinsically” and “objectively” disordered” suppression of the truth about homosexual sexual orientation uncaring about the human lives, especially the lives of children that are destroyed
( & me to keep silent for Benedict XVI and his clerical supporters, so that I could have lived a comfortable life for these past 16 years, would be like selling my soul to the devil. Because my life would no longer be building on truth. It is frightening to think what kind of life this would have been for me, possibly, quite similar to and ending up like many of the members of the curia did repressing the truth about their human sexuality ( & & & & What saved me from not ending up like the Vatican’s curia and Benedict XVI, is that I searched for the truth, spent time in prayer and the scripture.

...How I resolved this situation [March 1997] was through hours upon hours of continuous prayer. Afterwards, I came to the realization that my life had already been altered – changed forever. Because there was no way I could pretend I did not know what I knew, how severely children are harmed for life by the Vatican unsubstantiated antigay teachings and antigay social norms. I decided that I could not live with the regret knowing that I had a chance to make a profound difference for the better for others, most especially children and that I did nothing. My life would be nothing. I took the bungee jump and I came out to my parishioners. It definitely was not easy, but one thing that happened to me is - I gained a real sense of peace and well-being that has remained constant and unshaken. The scripture passages that kept repeating over and over in my head were:

“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” Matthew 16:25

“What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?” Luke 9:25

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me;… Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” Matthew 10:36-38

“…whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:6

Even after Benedict XVI and his accomplices’ mistreatment and the serious harm they have caused me that sense of peace has never left me. It is remains rock solid. I believe that is the benefit of spending the time and energy of acquiring a well-informed conscience regarding sexual orientation.

When the Rev. Martin Kurylowicz came out to his Sparta parish eight years ago, he said he had struggled for years with his homosexuality.

The Catholic priest says the struggle would be made harder for many others if the Vatican issues new rules that reportedly would ban gays from becoming priests…

…"I sizzled when I read it," said Kurylowicz, 55. "It's very hurtful, is what it is. In this day and age, there's no reason for it. It sends a message that there's something wrong with gays."

Kurylowicz said he spoke out then to raise awareness of violence against gays and teach others homosexuality is not a choice but an inborn trait. Church leaders still don't understand that and contribute to gays' poor self-esteem, he said…

…"Kids as young as 4 or 5 know they're different," said Kurylowicz, a psychotherapist… "They grow up with this pervasive guilt, which sabotages their growth and motivation." The result is thousands of dollars in therapy to accept their natural orientation, he said, adding, "Does the Vatican want to take that on, like the tobacco industry had to take on for the damage it caused consumers? Benedict XVI's Antigay Crusade - 32 years
Dehumanization in USA

October 12, 2013
November 15, 2013

It is an interesting fact that Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s obsessive unsubstantiated antigay crusade for the past 32 years (1981-2013) dehumanizing gay (LGBT) human beings promoted endlessly was paralleled by the gradual decline of the dignity of human beings not only in the USA, but also globally, as the value and importance of making a profit increased.

In the USA, Ratzinger began in 1981, his obsessive antigay crusade despite the authoritative emerging science on homosexuality of the previous 2 decades that led the American Psychiatric Association, APA removing homosexuality as a mental disorder, it also rendered his antigay teachings as unsubstantiated. Cardinal Ratzinger’s unilateral decision to disregard this vital, life-and-death, authoritative data on homosexuality, was a public act, the epicenter of global criminal dehumanization of innocent human beings, including children. He obsessively repeated his unsubstantiated antigay statements publicly for the next 32 years, without hindrance. No one stopped him. Those who attempted to stop him or challenged him, we learn were abruptly silenced or removed that was heavily publicized throughout the 1980s.

Political Wedge

It is from here, 1981 that all the corruption of the Vatican originated and or was enhanced to the extreme, until it started to implode in on itself. It is also from here that the world dehumanization, devaluing human beings began to flourish, because Cardinal Ratzinger’s unsubstantiated antigay crusade was politicized. For the entire length of Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s career in the Vatican, 32 years, USA Republican politicians have been in public unison with his unsubstantiated antigay teachings condemning gay (LGBT) people. They consistently used these unsubstantiated antigay teachings, as a political wedge, dehumanizing the same group of  innocent people, including children for the past 32 years - to help usher certain people into political offices. Photo

Anyone, in the USA running for political office has the resources to be ethically responsible in researching the authoritative facts on homosexuality from science and the bible, before speaking publicly on homosexuality.  The fact that the majority of Republicans spoke out condemning homosexuality, does not speak well of the level of the moral integrity that exists among the members of Republican Party who are in office.

Though in the recent past, 2010 - 2011, there have been a few courageous Republican politicians who put their jobs and lives on the line - standing up for gay people, voting for gay marriage. They did so (1) publicly and (2) going against the antigay stance of the Republican Party, for the sake of the lives of children. Once, the authoritative facts are thoroughly research on sexual orientation, homosexuality, especially the harm caused to very young children by the unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms, it is hard to turn one’s back on this truth. They heroically demonstrated the dignity and integrity that once existed in the majority of the members of the Republican Party.Photo

Senator Bob Dole made the statement that in the 1950s and 1960s, both political parties had their definite differences, but they could come together and workout their differences, resolve issues and move forward for the sake of the country. It was a different time, a more humane time in the USA history. Though it seems that there is a recent return to these times.

Most Republicans, evangelicals support ENDA - 11/5/13
With seven Republican senators and all 55 Democratic senators publicly on board, it now seems likely that the Senate will debate and vote this week on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would ban employment discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation. If the bill moves forward, it would represent the newest effort since the 1970s to address the issue and the first time since 1996 that the Senate has given the legislation an up-or-down vote...

Anyone, Republican or Democrat, condemning a group of innocent people, including children to get into elected office clearly speaks of a person who is not about integrity, but about extortion and avarice. This the same DNA that is found in the corruption of the Vatican’s curia and bank. Other people have used Ratzinger’s unsubstantiated antigay crusade as a moral sanctioning for further dehumanization tactics for selfish profit i.e. child labor, slave labor, human trafficking, etc.

Sway - USA Catholics - Antigay

At the start, 1981, Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s obsessive antigay crusade exploded in the news media. It has been reported that he did this to establish his position and authority, beginning with his long drawn out (over a decade) investigation of Archbishop Hunthausen of Seattle.

Though, it is denied and no mention is made of it in the investigation, there is strong indication that the reason for the investigation of Hunthausen was related to Reagan’s buildup of nuclear weapons and Hunthausen public stance against it

The focus of the investigation was on doctrinal issues and disapproved of Hunthausen supporting and allowing gay (LGBT) people to have mass in the Cathedral i.e. Dignity, gay Catholic group. Whether or not Hunthausen has being investigated because of his antinuclear public stance, at the request of Reagan's administration, Ratzinger’s antigay crusade remained intact and consistent. Throughout the 1980s, there was a string public silencing and removing notable theologians who were openly discussing the emerging science on homosexuality. Then in 1986, Ratzinger’s releases his letter titled ”PASTORAL CARE OF HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS.”
This title is not indicative of the contents of his letter. It would have been more accurately titled the “dehumanization,” and “abandonment” of and disciplining those who in the Church were caring for homosexuals, particularly during the height of the AIDS crisis in the USA. From then on right up to 2013, he continued his constant global dehumanization tactics by publicly promoting the discrimination against gay people, though always cloaked in the same deceptive terminology, as above, but in reality theses tactics were a complete dissociation from the reality of God’s love.
The intensity of Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s unsubstantiated antigay crusade notably increased around the USA Election campaigns, specifically designed to sway the Catholic population in the USA to vote for the candidates who were antigay. Here it is blatantly obvious that (1) Cardinal Ratzinger and as Benedict XVI was teaching people that it is permissible to dehumanize their fellow human beings, (2) by voting for politicians, who also are dehumanizing their fellow human beings, into office and (3) when they are in office these same politicians can continue dehumanizing even greater numbers of human beings, including those who voted them into office. What is so frightening in these 3 situations listed above is the complete absence of human empathy and contagion effect to willingly dehumanize millions of human beings and worst they call it God’s will. Photo

Downsizing, Outsourcing, Exploiting

Paralleling, Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s dehumanizing obsessive antigay crusade, in the USA began at the same time 1981 with the building up of nuclear weapons, the disassembling of work unions i.e. air traffic controllers’s union and the beginning of endless financial deregulations of laws protecting free market trade. In the 1990s, the USA initiated the Gulf War and the downsizing of corporations and companies that began the gradual process over time of eliminating millions of USA jobs and outsourcing these jobs to third world countries for a mere fraction of the wages and benefits, if any. In less than a decade, the endless financial deregulations allowed for the legal (1) downsizing of USA jobs leaving millions of human beings unemployed without health insurance, the outsourcing of USA jobs (2) exploited millions of human beings in the third world countries and the (3) people who still had jobs in the USA had their workloads increased due downsizing and had to accept decreases in their wages, benefits, including retirement pensions. Almost, as fast as, instant global communication, millions and millions of human beings around the world are simultaneously being dehumanized, instant global dehumanization. This global dehumanizing process continued on from the 1990s and throughout the 2000s, including leading the USA into a war under false pretenses that is still ongoing 2013. Photo

 Bush & Ratzinger
Condemning Gay People

During the past 32 years (1981-2013), while Ratzinger/Benedict XVI continued his obsessive unsubstantiated antigay crusade that paralleled with the gradual dehumanization tactics in the USA, there is evidence that he had relationship with the with the past 3 USA Republican Presidents, a total of 20 years. However, in those 20 years, his relationship would have been mainly with the Bush family, the father was vice president for 8 years with Reagan 1981-1989 and then as president the next four years  and his son was president from 2000-2008. Photo - Inside Man - (movie 2006)
Cardinal Ratzinger relationship (though denied) is related to the Vatican's connection with Reagan’s administration displeasure with Seattle’s Archbishop Hunthausen’s public stand against President Reagan’s buildup of nuclear weapons. There evidence that the FBI was monitoring  Archbishop Hunthausen’s activities, because of “his public stand against nuclear weapons (" Ratzinger did authorize an investigation of Hunthausen that began in 1983, however, there was no mention of his anti-nuclear weapons stance in any reports.  But close advisers to Hunthausen insisted that the investigation was triggered by Reagan’s administration and the Vatican. Though it is denied that the US government granted the Vatican diplomatic status that includes diplomatic immunity, January 1984, for the Vatican's their cooperation with dealing with Hunthausen’s public antinuclear weapons stance through the efforts of Ratzinger. Ratzinger’s antigay crusade was able to camouflage any intent of the Reagan’s administration war efforts in wanting to silence Hunthausen from making public antinuclear weapons statements.

“War Profiteering” & Antigay Crusade

There is an overriding coincidence of the allegations of “war profiteering” made against all 3 men of the Bush Family: Prescott Bush, an international banker, US Senator, the father of President Bush Sr. and grandfather of President Bush Jr. Before and during WWII, Prescott Bush was an international banker and his perceived business association with the Nazi Germany were quite lucrative and considered to be the solo source of the Bush family fortune. Allegations of “war profiteering” were made against Prescott Bush(  The same allegations of “war profiteering” were made against President Bush Sr. for authorizing the ”Gulf War” 1991 and against President Bush Jr. for his authorization of the “War in Iraq,” which the USA entered under false pretenses. The “war profiteering” allegations made against the two Bush presidents were related to oil production and their financial interests in “Carlyle” - a company dealing with furnishing war supplies from equipment to personnel. This coincidence also extends to the close relationship the 2 Bush presidents had with Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, who was raised in Nazi Germany during World War II and a member of Hitler Youth.

Pope Benedict XVI on the Church's Role in Public Life
The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life - 11-14-07
Short excerpts:
Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion. General Principles
In June 2004, five months before the U.S. presidential election, Cardinal Ratzinger sent a letter to Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of Washington, D.C., and Bishop Wilton Gregory of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on the question of whether it is permissible to deny communion to Catholic politicians whose positions on abortion and other issues contradict church teachings.
Congregation for the Doctrine Of the Faith
Cardinal Ratzinger served as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which oversees Roman Catholic Church doctrine, prior to his appointment as pope. The following documents were issued by the Congregation during his tenure.
1. Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and in the World (July 31, 2004)
This letter speaks to the "active collaboration" between men and women in society, the family and the Church.
2. Considerations Regarding Proposals To Give Legal Recognition To Unions Between Homosexual Persons (July 31, 2003)
This document emphasizes the protection and promotion of marriage as the foundation of the family and the stability of society.
3. Doctrinal Note: The Participation of Catholics in Political Life (January 16, 2003) This Note is directed to the bishops of the Catholic Church and to "Catholic politicians and all lay members of the faithful called to participate in the political life of democratic societies." Photo

Vatican Instructs Legislators On
Gays Backing Marriages Called 'Immoral'
Washington Post, August 1, 2003
The Vatican fired a booming shot yesterday in the rapidly escalating political battle over gay marriage, issuing specific instructions for Catholic lawmakers to oppose any effort to give legal status to homosexual unions.
According to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith – the Vatican's agency for policing Roman Catholic orthodoxy - "the Catholic law-maker has a moral duty to express his opposition [to gay marriage] clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral."
… Both documents came from the Vatican bureau headed by the conservative Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger…

Vatican fights Gay Marriages – July 31, 2003
The Vatican has launched a global campaign against gay marriages, warning Catholic politicians that support of same-sex unions is "gravely immoral."
…the 12-page document by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said Thursday…
…It is the second time this year the Vatican has formally issued the instruction, and mirrors similar comments made by U.S. President George W. Bush Wednesday…

Bush's appeal to the Vatican – June 25, 2004
…When Bush rejected the Vatican's moral criticism of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq a year ago, he was criticized for not listening to the pope. Now, however, that Bush has solicited the Vatican's help on "culture of life" issues, especially the anti-gay marriage push, he's blasted for mixing religion with politics.
This perhaps goes to show that where one draws the line on church/state separation often has a lot to do with what one thinks of whatever the church, or the state, has to say.
… in a June 4 meeting with senior Vatican officials (not in his private encounter with John Paul II the same day), Bush, according to a Vatican source, said that "not all the American bishops are with me" on cultural issues. My sources said the president particularly had in mind a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman…

Holy warriors – April 25, 2005
Cardinal Ratzinger handed Bush the presidency by tipping the Catholic vote.
Can American democracy survive their shared medieval vision?
…He [Bush] pleaded with the Vatican to pressure the bishops to step up their activism against abortion and gay marriage in the states during the campaign season.
About a week later, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger sent a letter to the U.S. bishops, pronouncing that those Catholics who were pro-choice on abortion were committing a “grave sin” and must be denied Communion. He pointedly mentioned “the case of a Catholic politician consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws” — an obvious reference to John Kerry, the Democratic candidate and a Roman Catholic…
…In 2004 Bush increased his margin of Catholic support by 6 points from the 2000 election, rising from 46 to 52 percent. Without this shift, Kerry would have had a popular majority of a million votes...moved into Bush’s column on the votes of the Catholic “faithful.” Even with his atmospherics of terrorism and Sept. 11, Bush required the benediction of the Holy See as his saving grace. The key to his kingdom was turned by Cardinal Ratzinger…

Salvaging Democracy after Election 2004 – by  Douglas Kellner
…Likewise, conservative "pro-life" Catholic bishops wrote letters to their parishioners articulating anti-Kerry and pro-Bush positions. Thus, below the media radar, there was something like religious revivalism that turned out the Christian right for Bush. One of the shocking revelations that soon came out was that during the highly contested and close 2004 US presidential election, “then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger wrote a letter to U.S. bishops while the campaign was in progress, instructing them to deny Communion to any Catholic candidate unwilling to criminalize abortion. Ratzinger's letter did not win anything close to unanimous agreement, even among the American bishops, yet he succeeded in creating a public question about John Kerry's status as a Roman Catholic. The shift among Catholic voters in 2004 was small in absolute numbers — President Bush increased his support among Catholics by 6 points from 2000 to 2004 — yet, according to one analyst, it was large enough to turn the election in Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico. Arguably, then, Ratzinger won the election for Bush."

It looks like Pope Francis is serious about cleaning up the Catholic Church - 10/3/13
In some respects, the Catholic Church is like any giant, multinational organization. It has some amount of corruption, bureaucratic dysfunction, even crime. But it's also a religious institution, which we generally (and rightly) hold to higher ethical standards than, say, Coca-Cola or ExxonMobil. The Catholic Church is also different in that its chief executive, the pope, has more control over his organization than any CEO.
Since his election in March, and especially in the past few months, Pope Francis has really shaken up the tone and timbre of the church, particularly in its attitude toward controversial issues like gay marriage and abortion. And people have noticed. Even observers prone to be more critical of the Holy See, like The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, are cautiously welcoming a new morning at the Vatican. On Wednesday, President Obama shot some praise the pope's way, too. "I have been hugely impressed with the pope's pronouncements," Obama told CNBC, when asked...

How can you (we) begin talking about restoring the dignity of human life within the global financial structures, of the major world corporations in respecting human beings more than profits, if you (we) blatantly keep maintaining the Vatican's unsubstantiated dehumanizing antigay teachings that has become by Benedict XVI’s obsessive antigay crusade, a global fountain of self-perpetuation of violence? 7/15/13

We must walk united with our differences:
there is no other way to become one.
This is the way of Jesus.
Pope Francis - 9/19/13

Love is constant. It never changes. No matter with any two people who fall in love regardless, heterosexual, homosexual, transgender and transsexual, or any combination thereof, love remains the same. This was an enlightening experience to realize working with a variety of couples. The joys, the sense of wonder, of being one with another, as well as, the frustrations, the difficulties, of intimacy, of trusting, forgiving, and growing  together are the same for all couples. Love never changes, it always remains the same for every human being. The old saying, appears to be true for any two people  in love that you “Can’t live with them, can’t live without them.” For me, it has been the most profound and unique privilege to be invited into the intimate and private lives of couples professionally, both as a psychologist and as a priest. To be able to witness that love with all its life giving qualities, as well as, the difficulties, struggles and sacrifices involved in actively being in love with another human being, are exactly the same for any two people in love. When it comes to love, true love is independent of sexual orientation and gender. True love never changes. Love is readily identifiable through time, across all cultures and in every individual human being. We also know, from research data that human beings from the very beginning of life will not survive without love. Love is essential for human existence. It is the lack of love that causes a disruptive rippling affects throughout a child’s lifetime.

The cruelest, the most inhuman action to take against any human being is to decide from birth that some human beings will never be allowed to fall in love, to be held, to embrace and to feel as one with another. And to have their every thought, while growing-up, about being in love with another, repulsively scorned and degraded as “intrinsically evil” and “objectively disordered” is demonic, the absence of love - of God. It is monstrous to treat any child in this heartless manner. It forces a child out of overwhelming fear, to live in a self-imposed isolation that is lethal, detached from any meaningful connection with other human beings. Is it any wonder, why some gay youths commit suicide, being constantly subjected to the kind of ridicule that cuts into the very core of a person? And no one is there to protect these gay youths. At least this is the way it has been for the past 32 years under Ratzinger/Benedict XVI.

Restoring the Dignity of Every human being

Though, a most surprising break from those past 32 years came directly from our newly elected, Pope Francis. Privately, out of the blue, at the request of this gay youth, Pope Francis made a personal call to him and reassured him that he is loved and valued and that being gay was not a problem. No news media was involved when the call was made, by Pope Francis, nor would there be. Photo

Because Pope Francis responded to the private concerns of this male gay youth, as a pastor. This means that even though, the seal of confession would most likely not apply to this situation, however, Pope Francis would treated it as if it did apply, in deference to the level of trust that this gay youth had in him in order to confide his personal concerns to him. It is never easy to confide personal concerns to anyone, however, it may at times be extremely difficult to confide them to a priest, I would think most especially if that priest happens to be the Pope.

The reason for making this long explanation above is to explained that Pope Francis  would not have made this call for any publicity reasons.  The only way we learned about this phone call is from the gay youth own admission that Pope Francis had indeed called him.  Notice, when Pope Francis confirms that he did make a phone call, in his interview dated  9/19/13, he never mentioned anything discussed on the phone or even that the youth was gay(

Speculating, I would think that Pope Francis only admitted making the phone call likely because he is aware of his position as the pope and the kind of impact it may have had on this gay youth, likely completely shocked, dazed, stupefied, etc. He, of course, would have wanted to share this unexpected and extraordinary event he had with Pope Francis with others, who wouldn’t. However, possibly in sharing, because even to the rest of world, it seemed unbelievable - everyone around him may have thought him to be delusional, crazy, even mentally unbalanced and some attributing it to his being gay, in any case most people would believe that he made the whole thing up, including the news media. If this may have been the case, Pope Francis would have wanted to restore the credibility of this young man, though not to draw any attention to himself personally or to violate the confidentiality. Regardless, of the above speculation, Pope Francis unexpectedly demonstrated how we are to be Christ to those in need and to one another.

It is completely unprecedented that a pope would do this for one gay youth. However, in reality it really should not be unprecedented, at all, because that is the very essence of what it means being a Christian. “To love one another as I have loved you” is the one command that comes personally from, Jesus Christ, to all his followers. Pope Francis clearly gets its and according to documentation, he got it for the past 30 - 40 years.

Pope Francis was caught off guard doing this good deed that he did in private. If the person he called never said anything, we would never have known about this event. For many of us, we have not seen this kind of sincere love for someone, by a major global leader i.e. Pope Francis, in a very, very long time, if ever, especially, reaching out to someone that many in the world though wrongly considers to be the least.

Though, we may not have seen this example of love extended to a gay youth, by other major world leaders that doesn't mean it hasn’t happened, because it would have been private - not for public display. However, we have witnessed major world leaders, including politicians, and governors in the USA - many of whom risked their jobs to come out and stand up for gay marriage and for the families involved, especially for their children. Tony Blair in 2009 even challenged Benedict XVI to rethink his ideas about homosexuality. The same year, Nancy Pelosi, (our first woman to be) the Speaker of the House, courageously fought to the get the Hate Crimes bill to include sexual orientation passed ( ). Photo

Pope Francis is the first pope to publicly be supportive of gay (LGBT) people and gay priests - unprecedented. However, he follows after the first, President of the USA, Barack Obama, including the first Vice-president, Joe Biden, who publicly came out in support gay marriage, which was unprecedented, but completely unexpected. What is interesting about these three world leaders - is their love and respect for children. This is a trait that is found in nearly every governor and politician in the USA who at great personal risk came out in public support of Gay Marriage - they all had a deep love and respect for children. Photo

However, with Pope Francis, after 32 years of the most obsessive global antigay crusade, makes his whole situation quite astounding and unbelievable. it wasn't a movie. It happened in real time and it was not done for the news media. It was not a PR stunt to gain favorable publicity to make up for the years of the criminal neglect of children by the Vatican. Because, it was empathically denied by the Vatican of the phone call ever happening, disparaging the credibility this gay youth, simply because he was gay. This continued until Pope Francis, in his interview released on September 19, 2013, reaffirmed that he did indeed make the telephone call to this gay youth( Pope Francis explained that he did it in answer to the letter he received from this gay youth, which he said was so simple and beautifully written.

Anyone, who cares about children and the youth like Pope Francis, sounds like "good people" to me. Anyone, no matter how important or busy they may be, who like a parent, is keenly aware when, a child, a youth needs reassurance and without so much as, a second thought, instantly makes the child his top priority for immediate attention, sounds exceptional to me. The whole world can wait, because the needs of children, and of youths come first, before all else. As startling, as it is to actually witness this kind of act of love for children and youths, it should not be the exception, but rather the norm of human behavior. The world would be a better place for everyone, if it was indeed the norm.  Most regrettably, for the past 32 years, this was so not the norm, in fact, the complete opposite was the norm of the Vatican. Photo

We have seen some extraordinary world leadership, including from many of our governors and politicians - all finding the courage to stand up for love - for all that is true and good and loving. They stood up for the love of gay (LGBT) people, especially for children. I do not think these people should ever be forgotten, because they like Pope Francis reminds us all around the world, of the importance and the power of love - it means everything.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels,
but do not have love, I am only
a resounding gong or
a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all
mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have
a faith that can move mountains,
but do not have love,
I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and
give over my body to hardship
that I may boast, but
do not have love,
I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

But where there are prophecies,
they will cease;
where there are tongues,
they will be stilled;
where there is knowledge,
it will pass away.

And now these three remain:
faith, hope and love.
But the greatest
of these is
1 Corinthians 13

 Absence of LOVE

Obsessive Antigay Crusade
Why? To serve whom?  For what purpose?

Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s obsessive antigay crusade, for the past 30 years, was erroneously based on the bible (e.g. Galileo) and completely void of any authoritative scientific data. This is what is truly “intrinsically evil” and “objectively disordered.” Photo

It doesn’t make sense that a person, a priest, a renown academic professor of his scholarly intellectual capabilities, would have known that his antigay teachings had no solid grounding in scripture, or in the emerging science on homosexual orientation.  It is an unexplainable resonating bleep in Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s personality that is so contradictory, so inconsistent. It is a red flag indicating something is not right that needs to be explained.

How can someone be so intellectually gifted and then all of a sudden be clueless on the subject of homosexuality, as it relates to scripture and science?  Then making such  obvious, inaccurate statements regarding homosexuality, publicly and being clueless about the potential harm and violence that such unsubstantiated antigay statements  would cause to people, including children, around the world. It does not make sense, especially, for someone holding the two top positions of power in the Vatican. Something is wrong. Who benefits? Is there more than one reason for this implicit, unacknowledged holocaust of gay people lasting the past 32 years? Photo

The emerging science on homosexuality had already started coming together in the 1950s and 1960s. And continued, reaching a significant level of authoritative data that led to the APA in 1973, reclassifying homosexuality, as a normal and natural part of human sexuality. And yet, this emerging science on homosexuality, sexual orientation and human sexuality continued expanding and coming forth throughout the rest of the 1970s and well into the 1980s to the present day.  And yet in 1981, Ratzinger/Benedict XVI beginning his career in the Vatican, he was oblivious to this substantiated research data on homosexuality from the previous 3 decades and the impact it had on the lives of millions of human beings, globally.

Instead, he turned directly in the opposite direction of love, true love.  He cold-heartedly and expeditiously began a systematic and intense unsubstantiated antigay crusade from the Vatican that lasted the past 32 years, uninterruptedly. Why? For what reason? Who gains from this travesty of God’s love. He began his antigay crusade covertly designed to exterminate every gay (LGBT) person off the face of the earth. A disguise of the complete absence of God, dehumanizing human beings. It was the entrance of the core of evil that eventually devastated the world destroying millions of human lives and far beyond just gay (LGBT) people. Photo

Dehumanization - Promoting

Ratzinger/Benedict XVI mirrored, for the past 30 years, to the world, particularly to the greediest, how to disguised their global human atrocities under false labeling of goodness. And it was copied “to a T.” Often with legislation that is meant to help the poor or protect children, the elderly and minorities by the time it gets passed has often been so water down with add-ons, stipulations, exemptions that it ends up with an impressive label of caring that is almost meaningless. So, the label makes it looks like the poor, the elderly, children, and minorities are being cared for though in actuality very little has been done e.g. “No Child Left Behind Act,” Hate Crimes Bill, the requirement that psychotherapy sessions be covered by health insurances, etc. The presumed thought appears to be a little help, assistance, protection, etc. is better than nothing. The title of any piece of legislation is not indicative of the actual description what is in any particular law passed. It tends to be no more than “high tech” hypocrisy.  It appears that this can, presently, be found in the USA government “shut down” in October 2013. It is centered around “Obama care” by a small group of politicians demanding endless add-ons and stipulations be added, the same watering down tacit used endlessly in the pass 30 years, making it less effective. In the end, it is the poor and children who are left out to suffer and die. This is quite similar to the tactics used by Ratzinger/Benedict XVI and the Vatican i.e. child sexual abuse cover-ups, delaying all lawsuits, presumably allowing enough time to pass that the victims go broke and or die off. This small group of politicians causing government “shut down” seriously limiting the services to the poor, elderly, children, etc.their efforts are clearly seem to center on greed. Though, often such immorality in the US government is backed by a false notion of christianity of self-righteousness and lukewarmness - the absence of God. But it so closely mirrors Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s dehumanizing antigay crusade also in the name of god. Photo

If ever we needed a Pope Francis and those USA Nuns of Charity (that Benedict XVI  2012 had silenced because they were not obsessively preaching against Gay Marriage and spending all their time helping the poor) we need them now. But as Pope Francis said from the start of his papacy that he cannot clean up the Church alone.  Everyone is needed to humanize the world again.

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience
to remain silent.

Dehumanizing Gay (LGBT) People

The amount of substantial authoritative documentation on homosexuality, already accumulated by 1981, would have been enough information for someone of lesser intellectual giftedness to have halted an intensely pervasive antigay crusade.   It would be halted because of the blatant indication from all this documentation of the possible life threatening harm that it could be causing to millions of people, globally. However, as the harm to the lives of children, youth suicides and the violence inflicted human beings became ever more evident from the authoritative research data, even then Ratzinger/Benedict XVI did not subside his antigay crusade, in the least.

He even fought against the United Nations efforts to include homosexuals,  sexual orientation under the protection of human rights act. Photo

In 1997, I learned (i.e. from my post graduated studies at the University of Michigan, at APA National Conventions, New Ways Ministry National Symposium, Richard Isay, etc., as I explain In my letter dated February 10, 2013) the facts related to the severity of the kind of lifetime harm caused to gay children growing-up through their early childhood psychological developmental years, who are subjected to the influence of these unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms.

But what was absolutely appalling is that these antigay norms were and continue to be fueled by the unsubstantiated antigay teachings promoted incessantly by the Vatican coming directly from Ratzinger/Benedict XVI ( and his hierarchy antigay crusade was never more evident than in the couples of years leading up to the USA Presidential elections of November 2012, according the unending news media reports. They seriously cross the line of the separation of church and state in the USA fighting against gay marriage.

During this time, extremely more intensely than his previous 30 years, instead of teaching the value of every human being, Ratzinger/Benedict XVI was teaching how  to dehumanize groups of human beings, as being subhuman not deserving of the human and civil rights shared by the rest of humanity. He aimed his systemic dehumanizing tactics against homosexuals (LGBT), however, because he had absolutely no authoritative data from the bible or science for his violence against gay people (LGBT), he only stressed the point, globally, that any group of human beings can be dehumanized for any reason. It was irrational global violence aimed against  gay (LGBT) people, regardless, who suffers or dies. It is sad to state, that irrational violence seems it is being mirrored exactly by the small group of politicians causing the government “shut down.”

Gradual Decline of the Dignity of Human Beings

It is an interesting fact that Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s obsessive antigay crusade for the past 30 years (1981-2013) dehumanizing gay (LGBT) human beings promoted endlessly by his false propaganda was paralleled by the gradual decline of the dignity of human beings not only in the USA, but also globally, as the value and importance of making a profit increased. It started in USA in the 1980s with the dissemblance of work unions, and the beginning of the endless deregulations of laws protecting free market trade.
How to Lie - & - Get Away With it - & - Become Compulsively RICH

It was followed by 1990s downsizing of employees from the work force in the USA. The explanations given for this drastic cut of millions of jobs were blurred and confusing that it had something to do to save money and to better compete in the global market. But this was not the truth, downsizing, as with the endless mantra the “rising cost of health care” were all lies. The cost of health care was not on the rise, but greed was on the rise, an enormous amount of greed that keeps increasing, endlessly. The downsizing was hardly noticed by the general public, at first, that  there was no downsizing of jobs. Because these vacant USA jobs were then being outsourced to third world countries for a mere faction of cost in wages and health care benefits.

It was all part of a well designed systematic plan of not only dehumanizing workers in the USA but of exploiting workers in third world countries i.e. akin to slave labor.  This global dehumanization continued throughout the 2000s, but not before leading us into a war under false pretenses.

During the past 30 years, when Communism ceased to be a national threat and could no longer be used as a fear tactic, dehumanizing Gay marriage filled that void. Attacks against gay marriage was on the rise, which were, also, dehumanizing attacks against all gay (LGBT) people. These antigay attacks were used as a political wedge to usher certain people office in the 1990s and 2000s. Though mostly all antigay statements were homophobic in nature and it was proven so by a considerable number of politicians making these antigay statements were found having sex with men in public restrooms, parks, etc. (
Though, not all antigay statements were of a homophobic nature, many, as it is now clear to see were used and are being used to preserve and to gain more power and money, at the expense of human lives, globally. This fact has become more evident as the public antigay tide began receding, as the public turned their support for gay marriage.

Pope Francis - Vatican Bank
Ending - Money Laundering

It is the worst form of corruption using people to gain power and use even more people. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s close tries with the Bush family and their 2 USA presidencies, including the thick lack of transparency, the money laundering connected to the Vatican Bank, Pope Francis decided to make a clean break from the past by publishing the first ever annual report of the Vatican Bank

Authoritatively - Renouncing
Vatican's unsubstantiated antigay teachings
Ending “How To” Dehumanize

Unless the unsubstantiated antigay teachings of the Vatican are renounced immediately they will remain “a how to” dehumanize any group of human beings.

But they cannot be renounced in the authoritarian manner, in the way, they were forced on people. They must be renounced authoritatively. It is not an issue of voting whether or not the Vatican's unsubstantiated antigay teachings should be renounced or not. That would be just as foolish as taking a vote on whether or not Galileo was right or not.

It is an issue of teaching people why the Vatican's antigay teachings are unsubstantiated and how they cause life threatening harm to children, which is why they need to be renounced immediately.  This type of authoritative teaching can begin as soon as, possible, because the renouncement of the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings is a long process. It involves guiding people through education of the facts of homosexuality from both scripture and science, then allowing people to form their own consciences. It is a longer, more tedious process, however, the most effective process. Because it allows for the back and forth exchange of thoughts and ideas from everyone and everyone grows in this process. Because in the end this is a process of LOVE, true love, which is never easy or ending, it is timeless. It is the process of respecting and learning from every human being. The renouncing of the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings happens through this education process.

“Top-down” and “Bottom-up”
Global Communication

This can be done today, through a responsible use of the Internet and websites. It is instant global communication. It can effectively be organized to provide 24/7 of the continuous flow of “top-down” and “bottom-up” communication with anyone and everyone in the world, as it is revolving around the sun. Key, essential to this global effort - it needs to be guided by what seems to be Pope Francis’s trademark - his respect for the differences of all people, his demonstrated sense of inclusiveness i.e with Eugenio Scalfari, the atheist founder of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica 10/1/13( Including, his primary concern of working together building a better world for everyone and not attempting to convert anyone, as he stated in his interview with Eugenio Scalfari. Photo

I am positive that Pope Francis would not find that he would be alone in this unprecedented endeavor to raise the dignity of every human being. I would be totally dedicated to such an arduous undertaking, as he would be surprised to find would be the norm from people all around the world, not to mention an endless number of Jesuits. It certainly would bring the world to Pope Francis’s door step and with the technology of the Internet, the ability to learn about, even meet them unfiltered by the curia.

This process above not only helps to renounce unsubstantiated antigay teachings of the Vatican - it mirrors an effective process for learning and resolving problems  essential for all leaders, church, government, parents, teachers, bosses, etc.

It, also, teaches every human being how to solve complex problems in life, how find answers, how to learn to love and find love.

"It is a sin to tell a lie

It would be interesting to wonder what life would have been like had Ratzinger/Benedict XVI used all the time, money and energy that he spent on his obsessive global unsubstantiated antigay crusade for the past 32 years and instead spent it all on teaching a solid truth that has never been disputed - that "it is a sin to tell a lie." He would instead had an anti-lying crusade for 30 years, never saying a word against gay people. Well, of course, if he had to tell the truth, he could then never have said a word against gay people. If more people were promoted to tell the truth, how would the world possibly have changed?

(1) Would there have been a "government shut down?"

(2) Would we have gone to war under false pretenses?  Would 9/11 even ever have happened in the USA?

(3) Would there have been the global devaluing of human beings over profits?

(4) Would there have been the endless problems with the "rising cost of Health Care" that left millions of people uninsured in the USA? Would Obama Care even have been necessary? Would there be more trees standing because there would be much less paperwork needed?

(5) Would we have always been in a never ending recession for the past 30 years?

(6) Would the price of gasoline keep rising?

(7) Would we still be dependent on oil?

(8) Would we have found a cure for cancer? Would there be a lot less stress in the world?

(9) would there be a problem of human trafficking?

(10) Would there have been the enormous number of child sexual abuse cover-ups?

(11) The Vatican's unsubstantiated antigay teachings would have been renounced decades ago.

(12)  Would there have been a lot less violence in the world and more people in love?

It's a Sin To Tell a Lie
Be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie
Millions of hearts have been broken
Just because these words were spoken
I love you, yes I do, I love you
If you break my heart I'll die
So be sure it's true
When you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie
Be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie
Millions of hearts have been broken
Just because these words were spoken
I love you, yes I do, I love you
If you break my heart I'll die
So be sure it's true
When you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie

Kids Are Being Hurt!!!

“Someday, maybe, there will exist a well-informed, well considered and yet fervent public conviction that
