A festive sea of revelers marked the 40th anniversary of the era-changing Stonewall uprising during Sunday's Gay Pride Parade even as they looked ahead toward another struggle - the fight for gay marriage.

"Stonewall was a time to stand up to authority and to our government," Tetta Kurland, an activist and openly gay candidate for City Council, said of the Greenwich Village riots that sparked the gay rights movement. "This year is the time for us to do it again."

Gov. Paterson - who remains hopeful the state will pass a pending same-sex marriage bill - marched as grand marshal of the parade alongside Christine Quinn, the first openly gay Council speaker.
