The
letter, written under the letterhead of the Congregation for the Doctrine of
the Faith, is businesslike in structure and tone, and even its more personal
touches have a formal, perfunctory feeling to them. Thus Ratzinger addresses
Hunthausen as “Your Excellency” (a politeness convention) and his words of
praise for Hunthausen are often indirect, coming forth as opinions voiced by
others: “Numerous people spoke of your laudable and conscientious efforts to
involve the laity in the work of the Church… You have been repeatedly described
as a man of Gospel values…”
The letter is unfailingly polite (strategy of courtesy).
Not once does
Ratzinger criticize Hunthausen directly. This is something of a
feat, because the letter is full of bad news for Hunthausen (an abundance of
problems in the archdiocese are identified), and that bad news amounts to a
thoroughgoing critique of the pastoral ministry he has overseen. Ratzinger’s
politeness strategy involves first providing a cushioning layer of
introductory comments which make a case for the Vatican’s rationality and fairness
(many were consulted, the information was carefully assessed, “extremist”
opinions were dismissed out of hand), then praising Hunthausen (“There
are many indications that you have striven with heart and mind to be a good
bishop…”), and finally smoothing out the critique with euphemisms (“visit”
/“visitation” for investigation; “it has been our purpose to assist you”
– emphasis mine) and sentence constructions that avoid the assignment of
culpability (“It is important that the nature and mission of the Church be
taught in their entirety” – who has failed to do this?). A notable disjuncture
in the letter lies in the fact that what praise there is goes to Hunthausen
personally (with no direct blame), whereas the assessment of the archdiocese

Definition
of a Sociopath and Psychopath
A sociopath is a person who is plagued with a
personality disorder that is marked by traits of anti-social behavior. On the
other hand, a psychopath is a person
who has an antisocial personality disorder that is seeping with an aggressive, perverted, criminal mind
with an amoral behavior that lacks empathy and remorse.
You may find both are a part of antisocial personality disorders and find
no difference between the two. But the facts state otherwise. There are marked
differences between a sociopath and psychopath.

Many think sociopaths and psychopaths are people
with no emotional feelings towards others and no regard towards the laws of the
society. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition
(DSM-IV), is a manual that is referred by mental health professionals when
diagnosing mental illnesses. It is seen that the DSM-IV has labeled both the
conditions, sociopath and psychopath under the section of antisocial
personality disorders. It states that there is a pervasive pattern of disregard
for violation of the rights of others that occur since the age of 15 years.
The
following factors are indicative towards antisocial personality:
[1] The person fails to conform to the social norms and
lawful behavior that is shown by the repeated occurrences of arrests
by the police.
[2] The person is deceitful and is used to lying repeatedly,
uses aliases and cons people for personal gain and pleasure.
[3] They are impulsive and do not plan for the
future.
[4] They are easily irritated and become
aggressive, which is indicated by their involvement in physical fights and
assault cases.
[5] They have little or no regard for the safety of others
and even their own.
[6] They are irresponsible people, who cannot
sustain themselves with consistent work behavior and cannot honor financial
obligations.
[7] These indications are highly accurate and
valid by the DSM-IV. They are applicable to both sociopath and psychopath. But
these indications clearly fail to give a more clear distinguishing factor
between the two antisocial behavior and many times may lead to unfortunate
treatment conclusions.
Difference
Between Sociopath and Psychopath
There are very few differentiations between
sociopaths and psychopaths. There are many medical dictionaries that consider
them synonymous. Both, sociopaths and psychopaths are involved in antisocial
behavior that is related to extreme violence. Though psychiatrists group
sociopaths and psychopaths together, criminologists have given some difference
between sociopaths and psychopaths.
Behavior of
a Sociopath
Sociopaths are very disorganized people.
Psychopaths are obsessively organized people.
Sociopaths cannot maintain normal relationships
with their family, friends and co-workers. Psychopaths tend to have normal
relationships with the people around them and are even able to take care of old
parents and get married.
Sociopaths are not able to maintain a steady
employment or house.
Sociopaths are found living at the periphery of
the society. A study carried out with the homeless people of New York as
subjects, showed that most of them were sociopaths. Psychopaths are found
living in large apartments and houses and cannot be distinguished from normal
people.
Sociopaths are very erratic and unplanned with
their acts of extreme violence. Their inability to plan and be organized, makes
them leave trails of clues. This makes it very easy to identify and zero-in on them.

a Psychopath
Psychopaths are very successful career-wise. Their ability to organize makes them
very likable and trustworthy among people.
Psychopaths tend to understand the emotions of
others, but they do not feel any
emotions or are basically shallow. Thus, it is very easy for them to
manipulate people with emotional games.
Psychopaths

[2] They plan every single detail of their crime and make
sure that they remain undetected.
[3] This organized and detailed planning makes it very difficult to
catch them.
Characteristics
of Sociopaths
Sociopaths tend to see their victim as an
instrument to be used for personal gains. They try to dominate others and
humiliate their victims. They have no qualms lying and it becomes very
difficult for them to be truthful. This makes them believe falsely about their
own greatness and powers. It is seen that they can easily pass a lie detector
test. They have problems keeping friends, show cruelty towards people and even
animals. They have no problems when they play havoc in the lives of others and
break their dreams. They do not feel guilty about their act, instead play the
blame game and make others feel responsible for their acts committed. They tend
to have promiscuity and often get involved in child sexual abuse or rape and
indulge in sexual acting out of all types. They tend to change their image very
often and their life story so convincingly that it helps them avoid prosecution.
Sociopaths tend to develop their characteristics due to the effects of
environment on their psychology. The factors that lead to their antisocial
behavior include poverty, delinquent friends, neglect by parents, family,
friends or society, etc.
You will find sociopaths are very charming
people. They use their charm in manipulating people and situations around them.
Sociopaths are liars and will lie to get what they want. Thus, as mentioned
above, they can easily pass a lie detector test. One will observe their
happiness or emotions only when they feel it will help them get their way.
Otherwise, they will never portray any emotions. Love is of no value to them
and they love living their lives on the edge. These people have a history of
behavioral problems as well as unlawful behavior. As they fear their true self
being discovered, they will keep moving from one place to another.
Characteristics
of Psychopaths
Psychopaths are not often murderers, but maybe
your next door neighbors, co-worker or even your lover. Psychopaths have a
persuasive personality that is so dazzling, that it tends to blind your eyes into a make belief world, till
realization dawns when it's too late. They have a personality that is
similar to Jekyll and Hyde. They get what they want. Their lovers are showered
with excessive attention and care, that makes them believe whatever they say.
Thus, making it very easy for them to reach their wallets and bank accounts for
money more than often. They have no conscience whatsoever. Self- gratification
is their whole and sole aim of life. Their up-bringing plays very little role
in their behavior and is mostly due to biological or genetic factors. Psychopaths tend
to think of themselves as victims and play on the fact that most of
their victims are trusting and forgiving people. They tend to be great lovers
and never let their partners suspect about the other lovers in their lives.
They do not seek help voluntarily and are sent for counseling under the orders
of the court most of the time. Psychopaths tend to hang around with you, till
you have been sucked out of all the money and emotionally drained. Then, they
exhibit their true self and the best thing to do is move on yourself.
Psychopaths tend to be very aggressive and can lose their temper over trivial
matters. They have problems controlling their behavior and are basically
remorseless to the pain or embarrassment caused to others due to their actions.
Psychopaths are extremely self-centered and need
to keep doing something to avoid boredom. They live impulsively and will never
have a realistic outlook towards their life. They find psychological
satisfaction after carrying out a criminal activity or sexual crime…
A psychopath
tends to have a calm
demeanor and is very organized with his or her manipulation. To the
society the person appears absolutely normal. However, due to his/her organized
thinking, he/she can get away with their wrongdoings without arousing any
suspicion. Even under threatening situations, the person will
display little emotion and take control of the situation. A sociopath on the
other hand is disorganized and can easily become agitated. They act
spontaneously and never think of the consequences.

these people appear to be human beings like us, this is merely a façade.
Beneath the surface they are really subhuman creatures, fit to be hunted down
and destroyed. The immense destructive power of dehumanization lies in the fact
that it excludes its victims from the universe of moral obligation, so killing
them is of no greater consequence swatting a mosquito, or poisoning a rat. If
dehumanization is a key factor in war and genocide, we ought to be working very
hard to prevent it.

The way that
Benedict XVI and the hierarchy are able to maintain this false notion about
homosexuals is by publically dehumanizing homosexuals. It is their
relentless condemnation of homosexuals using anti-gay propaganda trying to
convince the public that homosexuals are less than human, are subhuman and
therefore, homosexuals can be “excluded from the system of moral rights and
obligations that bind humankind together ('Less Than Human' - by David
Livingstone Smith 2011).”
What is it that enables one group of human beings to treat
another group as though they were subhuman creatures?
…A rough answer isn't hard to come by. Thinking
sets the agenda for action, and thinking of humans as less than human paves the
way for atrocity. The Nazis were explicit about the status of their victims.
They were Untermenschen — subhumans — and as such were excluded from the
system of moral rights and obligations that bind humankind together. It's
wrong to kill a person, but permissible to exterminate a rat. To the Nazis, all
the Jews, Gypsies and others were rats: dangerous, disease-carrying rats…
Dehumanizing the enemy allowed German soldiers and officers to agree with
the Nazis' new vision of warfare, and to fight without granting the Soviets any
mercy or quarter."
…The Holocaust is the most thoroughly
documented example of the ravages of dehumanization. Its hideousness
strains the limits of imagination. And yet, focusing on it can be strangely
comforting. It's all too easy to imagine that the Third Reich was a bizarre
aberration, a kind of mass insanity instigated by a small group of deranged
ideologues who conspired to seize political power and bend a nation to their
will. Alternatively, it's tempting to imagine that the Germans were (or are) a
uniquely cruel and bloodthirsty people. But these diagnoses are dangerously
wrong. What's most disturbing about the Nazi phenomenon is not that the Nazis
were madmen or monsters. It's that they were ordinary human beings…

(AP) Pope Benedict XVI weighed in against anti-discrimination laws, which
have raised fears at the Vatican that the Catholic Church could be prosecuted
for refusing, for example, to hire gays or transsexuals.
Benedict blasted proposed laws before the British Parliament that are intended
to prevent employers from denying jobs to applicants on the grounds of gender,
sexuality, age or race. Current legislation exempts religious organizations,
but the planned new law would effectively apply to lay people employed by
churches.
Benedict told the bishops that they needed to take a firm, public stand against
