Pope Francis recently met with groups of LGBTQ children and children with autism, and offered words of encouragement and acceptance to two marginalized communities within the Catholic Church.
The pope told both groups that God was accepting of them just as they are, statements that have drawn praise from many on social media.
“God created the world with a great variety of flowers of all different colors,” he told children with the Austrian group Sonnenschein at the Vatican on Monday, according to the Associated Press. “Each flower has its unique beauty. And each one of us is beautiful in the eyes of God, who loves us.”
Sonnenschein, which translates to Sunshine, is a clinic where children with autism can undergo therapy, Vatican News reported.
Days earlier, on Wednesday, Pope Francis met with a group of LGBTQ children and their parents and offered similar words of acceptance — a stance he has been known for since assuming his position in 2013.
“God loves your children as they are,” he told the group, which was part of an Italian LGBTQ Christian association called Tenda di Gionata, according to the Jesuit weekly America magazine.
He added: “The church loves your children as they are because they are children of God.”
Mara Grassi, the group’s vice president, said she gave Pope Francis a book that chronicled the often-difficult experiences parents of LGBTQ children face within the church [see - Archbishop

Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI both experienced first hand the unprecedented multitude
human atrocities ever recorded in human history resulting from ideology of Nazism the product of Hitler and the Nazi regime. The ideology of Nazism was formed by the breach in the dialogue between science and religion, between faith and reason, arbitrarily blurring the distinct boundaries between science and religion. Thus it marked the death of TRUTH and without truth there is no LOVE. What spontaneously followed was the cult that was formed around the myth of Hitler that grew out of the mesmerizing effect that his rousing speeches had on the German populace that were given at a moment in time when they were most vulnerable. Hitler’s speeches given at any other in history would not have had the same mesmerizing effect that allowed Hitler to rise to power (Ian Kershaw). However, Hitler promises to make Germany great again resonated deeply with the German people who were severely suffering from their humiliating defeat in World War I and the harsh sanctions that ensued.
Hitler relentlessly scapegoated the Jewish people for Germany’s humiliating defeat in World War I that gave rise to Hitler and the Nazi regime twisted use of science to give legitimacy to their dehumanizing concocted preposterous racial ideology of Nazism and that they uniquely camouflaged in the terminology of religion (Ian Kershaw) claiming that German people were the direct descendants from the “master” Aryan race. This breach in the manufactured dehumanizing ideology of Nazism led to the death of TRUTH and the end of LOVE that resulted in the total devastating destruction of Nazi Germany, and the deaths of 70 million people by the end of World War II 1945.

It is understandable that both John Paul II and Benedict XVI would have suffered from possible symptoms of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) the resulting aftereffects of having lived through these multiple horrific events of the actualization of Nazism that is noted in their writings. Their papal writings meticulously detail the urgency of maintaining an ongoing dialogue between science and religion that is immediately followed by their stark stern warning that isolation is not an option and that “Any breach in this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to

John Paul II expeditiously after being elected to the papacy authorized an objective investigation into the curia’s Inquisition (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) of Galileo. It revealed the travesty of the Galileo affair that separated the science out of their judgment made against Galileo, ordering him to recant his belief in the idea that the earth revolves around the sun.
John Paul II seemed to have been set on a relentless mission to seek public forgiveness for the Church’s many past committed dehumanizing events and atrocities in 2000. His efforts appeared to have been made to firmly secure that the foundation of the Church be directly built on the rock of Christ’s teachings. Why? It would seem that at the age of 80 years old, John Paul was likely fully recalling the numerous unending atrocities of Nazism and wanted to assured that beacon Christ’s TRUTH would shine brightly through the Church “the people of God” hopefully preventing that such atrocities from ever happening again.
Struggle???
It was surprising to read at that time that Pope John Paul had to struggle through the curia in order to make his public apologies for the Church’s past atrocities in 2000. Struggle??? It was an indication how far the RC curia, the members of the RC hierarchy, had drifted away from the TRUTH of being firmly built on the foundation of Christ’s teachings.

In 1975, Selma Fraiberg, a clinical social worker and child psychoanalyst, introduced the metaphor of “ghosts in the nursery.” This concept refers to the relationship between a parent’s early, often negative experience of the way they were raised and their own parenting style. Since 1975, the American Psychological Association has called on psychologists to take the lead in removing the stigma of
mental illness that has long been associated with lesbian, gay and bisexual orientations. The discipline of psychology is concerned with the well-being of people and groups and therefore with threats to that well-being. The prejudice and discrimination that people who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual regularly experience have been shown to have negative psychological effects. What is sexual orientation?
Sexual orientation refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions to men, women or both sexes. Research over several decades has demonstrated that sexual orientation ranges along a continuum, from exclusive attraction to the other sex to exclusive attraction to the same sex. Homosexual identities can be described as closeted, homosexually self aware, gay/ lesbian and non-gay identified. This classification privileges the role of self-definition. In coming out, gay people integrate, as best as they can, dissociated aspects of the self. As gay people must decide on a daily basis whether to reveal and to whom they will reveal, coming out is a process that never ends.
In the jargon of contemporary homosexual culture, those who hide their sexual identities are referred to as either closeted or said to be in the closet. Revealing one's homosexuality is referred to as coming out. Clinical experience with gay patients reveals hiding and revealing behaviors to be psychologically
complex.
Homosexual Identities
In the developmental histories of gay men and women, periods of difficulty in acknowledging their homosexuality, either to themselves or to others, are often reported. Children who grow up to be gay rarely receive family support in dealing with anti-homosexual prejudices. On the contrary, beginning in childhood--and distinguishing them from racial and ethnic minorities--gay people are often subjected to the anti-homosexual attitudes of their own families and communities (Drescher et al., 2004). Antihomosexual attitudes include homophobia (Weinberg, 1972), heterosexism (Herek, 1984), moral condemnations of homosexuality (Drescher, 1998) and antigay violence (Herek and Berrill, 1992). Hiding activities learned in childhood often persist into young adulthood, middle age and even senescence, leading many gay people to conceal important aspects of themselves…
DISSOCIATION
What psychological mechanisms facilitate separating one's sexual identity from the rest of one's persona? Sullivan's (1956) concept of dissociation may be illuminating, particularly its most common aspect: selective inattention. A ubiquitous, nonpathological process, selective inattention makes life more manageable, like tuning out the background noise on a busy street. However, through dissociation of anxiety-provoking knowledge about the self, a whole double life can be lived and yet, in some ways, not be known. Clinical presentations of closeted gay people may lie somewhere in severity between selective inattention--most commonly seen in the case of homosexually self-aware patients thinking about "the possibility" that they might be gay--to more severe dissociation-- in which any hint of same-sex feelings resides totally out of conscious awareness. More severe forms of dissociation are commonly observed in married men who are homosexually self-aware but cannot permit the thought of themselves as gay (Roughton, 2002).

From decades of public antigay statements it is clear that these RC Prelates are saturated with intense internalized homophobia and guilt not being able to totally repress all their spontaneous homosexual thoughts, feelings, attractions to members of the same gender and sexual arousal. Being in this mental state makes them prime targets to be exploited by antigay Catholic groups and by political groups to gain ever more power and wealth by means such as blackmail.
This is the severe ever continuing crumbing effects of the Vatican’s Unsubstantiated (the Absence of Science on Homosexuality) Teaching on Homosexuality of not being built on TRUTH. It is a direct product of the Vatican’s Organizational Culture of Repressed Dissociated Homosexuals - all grounded as victims in the symptoms of the process of Groupthink (the practice of thinking or making decisions as a group in a way that discourages creativity or individual responsibility). It is destroying the moral credibility of the RC curia and hierarchy. It is ever more globally destructive than climate change, in fact, it is what leads to the denial of the science on climate change, because it destroys the development of EMPATHY.

This humble, kind unassuming cardinal who just the day before was elected Pope Francis, is observed by reporters very early the following morning - notably not to be in sync with the expected long established papal hierarchy’s formalities, their rigid observance of rules of convention - leaves the Vatican - under the radar of the papal guards - startling people by his greeting - a long the way to pay his hotel bill.
What we were witnessing (and continue to witness) is a fully functioning adult human being - not encumbered with the trappings of “Internalized Homophobia” that has become the ingrained pervasive organizational culture of the Vatican’s curia and hierarchy: the immaturity characteristics of the psychological developmental stagnation, victims of early childhood abuse caused by the influence (in varying degrees of severity) of the unsubstantiated (void of science) societal antigay prejudices causing lifelong harmful effects.

Pope Francis’s 2013 entrance into the Vatican’s curia that was the entrance into the “organizational culture” of the stagnated immaturity of the pervasive - repressed dissociated homosexual prelates and as endlessly reported is saturated in clericalism careerism and entrenched corruption. Most likely Pope Francis was struck and was still reeling from the awesomeness of the responsibility of work that was set before him that of being the pope - preoccupied with concerns about how to meet the needs of the poor and suffering in the world (the man who does not take vacations) then in stark contrast he enters into this surrealistic “organizational culture” of the curia almost completely oblivious to the needs of people, instead they are absorbed into the world of clericalism. In January, Pope Francis traveled to South America to spread peace and hope. Many cheered him on, but he also wound up causing emotional pain when he dismissed accusations that Chilean clergy had covered up sexual abuse.
In the weeks that followed, the Vatican's leading sex crimes investigator looked into the allegations, and the pope did an about-face: He acknowledged making mistakes.
Now, Francis has been apologizing and listening to some of those he offended most.
Last month, three men who had been molested by a Chilean priest in their youth were invited to the Vatican by Francis so he could speak with them personally and ask their forgiveness.
One of the Chilean abuse survivors, Juan Carlos Cruz, now a communications professional in Philadelphia, describes how moving the experience was for him…

…JUAN CARLOS CRUZ: I know that the topic was very serious, but honestly, it was spending a week in the pope's residence with him living right on top of you and him coming down for lunch like it's nothing and spending hours with me. It was just an experience that I - I don't know. It just surpasses me.
MARTIN: The pope had faced widespread criticism for the issue of sex abuse in the church, and he ordered an investigation into what was happening in the Catholic Church in Chile. Cruz says the pope listened to his story and then told him this.
CRUZ: In this case, I was part of the problem. That's why you're here, and that's why I wanted to see you personally and tell you how sorry I am. And of course, I was a bit choked up, and he just let me be silent or cry, even, or he would just sit there with me and listen to me. And the almost three hours were a very, very frank conversation. It was just like I was talking to my grandfather…
CRUZ: Yes. The pope in January called me a liar. And first, he apologized for that, of course. But then we talked about it, and I said, Holy Father, you cannot imagine what this does to someone who is trying to tell the truth. I don't ever want for you to fall into what other bishops have been falling, which is blame the survivors, destroy the honor of many victims. And he agreed, of course. And I told him this was not only Barros who watched while we were abused. And the Cardinal Errazuriz, it's unbelievable that he is actually close to you when he has a whole history of covering up and being a terrible person. And that message that you are sending to the world - I don't think it's the one you should be sending…
CRUZ: ...I met with some other cardinals, and Rachel, it was unbelievable for me to be telling them the perspective of someone who they never get to see, right? We're all names on paper, and here, a man in flesh and blood was telling them my experience and the urgency that there is to deal with this because this cannot wait. There are so many people that are dealing with this right now and that don't get to be heard and don't get to be nurtured, and some end up killing themselves...

ROME — A Chilean survivor of clerical sex abuse has said that Pope Francis told him in a private meeting this month that God had made him gay and that both God and the pontiff loved him that way, a remarkable expression of inclusion for the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
…Mr. Cruz had already said that Francis had apologized in the meeting for the large-scale sexual abuse scandal involving Chilean clergy members…
Mr. Cruz, through tears, explained that he had told Francis in their nearly three-hour private meeting that he had maintained his
Catholic faith even though the Chilean bishops had apparently told the pope that he had left the church “for a life of perversion.”
…Mr. Cruz said that his lawyer warned him in 2009 that the church would focus on his homosexuality, leaving him
vulnerable and threatening to make life extremely difficult for him.
He said that his lawyer later told him that Cardinal Francisco Javier Errázuriz, a confidant of Francis, had raised the question of whether Mr. Cruz could even be considered a victim because, Mr. Cruz said, “I was gay and I might have liked it.”
“It was horrible,” he added. “This has always weighed on me.”

Internalized homophobia
—In the most proximal position along the continuum from the environment to the self, internalized homophobia represents a form of stress that is internal and insidious. In the absence of overt negative events, and even if one’s minority status is successfully concealed, lesbians and gay men may be harmed by directing negative social values toward the self. Thoits (1985, p. 222) described such a process of self-stigmatization, explaining that “role-taking abilities enable individuals to view themselves from the imagined perspective of others. One can anticipate and respond in advance to others’ reactions regarding a contemplated course of action.”
Clinicians use the term internalized homophobia to refer to the internalization of societal antigay attitudes in lesbians and gay men (e.g., Malyon, 1981–1982). Meyer and Dean (1998) defined internalized homophobia as “the gay person’s direction of negative social attitudes toward the self, leading to a devaluation of the self and resultant internal conflicts and poor self-regard” (p. 161). After they accept their stigmatized sexual orientation, LGB people begin a process of coming out. Optimally, through this process they come to terms with their homosexuality and develop a healthy identity that incorporates their sexuality (Cass, 1979, 1984;Coleman, 1981–1982;Troiden, 1989). Internalized homophobia signifies the failure of the coming out process to ward off stigma and thoroughly overcome negative self-perceptions and attitudes (Morris et al., 2001). Although it is most acute early in the coming out process, it is unlikely that internalized homophobia completely abates even when the person has accepted his or her homosexuality. Because of the strength of early socialization experiences, and because of continued exposure to antigay attitudes, internalized homophobia remains an important factor in the gay person’s psychological adjustment throughout life. Gay people maintain varying degrees of residual antigay attitudes that are integrated into their self- perception that can lead to mental health problems (Cabaj, 1988;Hetrick & Martin, 1984;Malyon, 1981–1982;Nungesser, 1983). …my group and I did the very first neuroimaging study on people having flashbacks. That turned out to be a very interesting study. We discovered that when people relive their trauma, a fair amount of their brain actually goes offline, particularly in the left anterior prefrontal cortex where the capacity for analyzing, understanding, and language is located. So, essentially we were able to visualize how people become dumbfounded...
...and struck with speechless terror. That is a very big issue. The other thing we discovered or confirmed was that when people relive their trauma, their survival brain, their emotional brain, becomes very activated, and their frontal lobes, their more rational brain, gets deactivated, so that people sort of “take leave of their senses” in some ways—so that people’s cognitions fail them. We learned that the insula, the part of the brain that’s involved in registering and noting what is going on in your body, becomes impaired, so there’s a decreased body–mind connection that needs to be reactivated. Various people have discovered that the medial prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain that allows you to feel yourself, notice yourself and be in touch with yourself—gets quite thrown off track, basically, so that it is really hard to notice what goes on inside of you and to manage what goes on inside of you…

Through the documentation of one of “the leading United States investigators at Nuremberg, Gen. William J. Donovan (http://www.nytimes.com/2002/01/13/weekinreview/word-for-word-case-against-nazis-hitler-s-forces-planned-destroy-german.html)” we learn the facts of the unprecedented severe brutality of Hitler’s revenge inflicted on the Catholic Church, that followed in the wake of the distribution of “Mit brennender Sorge.” Gen. William J. Donovan’s records stored at Cornell University were released through the collaborative efforts between Cornell and Rutgers Universities in 1999, known as the Nuremberg Project. “The outline, ‘The Persecution of the Christian Churches,’ summarizes the Nazi plan to subvert and destroy German Christianity, which it calls ‘an integral part of the National Socialist scheme of world conquest.’” From these records - it was clear that Hitler did not want to make martyrs out of the Catholic priests. Hitler wanted them to died as criminals.
Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minster of propaganda orchestrated the attacks by once again exploiting German societal prejudices against homosexuals - to obscure Hitler’s real motive of revenge that not only was meant to destroy the Catholic clergy, but the Catholic Church as well. Goebbels was aware that an outwardly attack on the anti-nazi opposition of the Catholic clergy, would not be possible for fear of a public outrage would then be directed at Hitler and the Nazi Regime and make martyrs out of the priests they attacked and killed.
Instead, Goebbels by exploiting homosexual prejudices he made these attacks against the Catholic clergy look like, again as it did on March 4, 1933 - Hitler’s efforts of being tough on crime. He did this by staging massive public trails of false accusations charging the clergy of the crime of homosexuality, because, at the time, homosexuality was a punishable crime under German law. Through Goebbels’s deceptive propaganda tactics - he not only succeeded in (1) covering up Hitler’s true intent, his barbaric revenge, he (2) silenced, and removed to concentration camps the opposition of the Catholic clergy. In addition, at the same time he was destroying the reputation of both, (3) the Catholic clergy and (4) the Catholic Church, while (5) arousing public violence against the Church and making public statement to (6) instill fear and intimidated others from speaking against Nazism.
Hitler and the Nazis exploited the social homosexual prejudices of the conservative elites not only to help propel him into the dictatorship of Germany, but to justify his massacre of 150 to 200 victims in the event known as the “Night of the Long Knives” late June 1934, and to cover-up his lethal revenge against the Catholic clergy giving his approval to Goebbels to begin the public staged false accusations of homosexuality in the ‘immorality trials’ against clergy.

Addressing the Gauleiter in mid-March, Hitler announced that he wanted ‘no ordinary victory’ over the Churches. Either one should keep quiet about an opponent (totschweigen), or slay him (totschlagen), was how he put it. In April, Goebbels reported with satisfaction that the Führer was becoming more radical in the ‘Church Question’, and had approved the start of the ‘immorality trials’ against clergy. Pope Francis recently met with groups of LGBTQ children and children with autism, and offered words of encouragement and acceptance to two marginalized communities within the Catholic Church.
The pope told both groups that God was accepting of them just as they are, statements that have drawn praise from many on social media.
“God created the world with a great variety of flowers of all different colors,” he told children with the Austrian group Sonnenschein at the Vatican on Monday, according to the Associated Press. “Each flower has its unique beauty. And each one of us is beautiful in the eyes of God, who loves us.”
Sonnenschein, which translates to Sunshine, is a clinic where children with autism can undergo therapy, Vatican News reported.
Days earlier, on Wednesday, Pope Francis met with a group of LGBTQ children and their parents and offered similar words of acceptance — a stance he has been known for since assuming his position in 2013.
“God loves your children as they are,” he told the group, which was part of an Italian LGBTQ Christian association called Tenda di Gionata, according to the Jesuit weekly America magazine.
He added: “The church loves your children as they are because they are children of God.”
Mara Grassi, the group’s vice president, said she gave Pope Francis a book that chronicled the often-difficult experiences parents of LGBTQ children face within the church [see - Archbishop

Pope Francis’ emphasis has been on “a poor church for the poor” and the church as a “field hospital.” But the agenda of the American bishops at their annual meeting in Baltimore last month was business as usual, with a focus on abortion, same-sex marriage, religious liberty and, especially, pornography.
The bishops labored over a document highlighting the evils of pornography and went into great detail about erotic stimulation, orgasm and masturbation, reminding us, as some of them do on a regular basis, that masturbation is always gravely evil. Because the church has repeatedly condemned pornography, it is not clear why the bishops put so much effort into this policy paper at this time.
What is clear is that a majority of U.S. Catholic bishops continue to be obsessed with things sexual and continue to ignore the pope’s exhortation to instead focus on issues relating to charity and justice. Thomas Reese, reporting on the bishops’ meeting for National Catholic Reporter, wrote, “Francis wants a pastoral church, preaching a Gospel-based message of love, compassion and justice — not a nagging church wagging its finger at people.”
San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy, a native San Franciscan, has embraced the pope’s message and took his best shot at the bishops’ meeting to integrate Francis’ values into the deliberations on the bishops’ document regarding conscience and voting. Each election cycle, the bishops have issued a paper called “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” which hasn’t been revised since 2007, and was only lightly revised for this 2015 meeting. The document, offered as a guide for Catholic voters, focuses on abortion and euthanasia and repeatedly references same-sex marriage. McElroy eloquently argued that the document was basically flawed in that it does not account for the impact of Francis prioritizing Catholic social teaching…

In May 2014, a Chicago-area Catholic priest was arrested, allegedly for exposing himself to other adults at a gas station. He turned himself in after he was identified by the license plate on his car. Even now, I imagine the man is sitting in a police station, tormented by his actions, in agony for his mistakes. I sympathize with the pain he must feel, and his fear of the rejection, judgment and scorn he will surely experience from his Church and congregation.
The irony of his hypocrisy is made worse by the monsignor’s recent campaign against the seductive, insidious and “addictive” dangers of Internet porn. The clergyman has written and spoken publicly about how Internet pornography, so readily accessible to teens on their phones and computers, causes neurochemicals changes in their brains, and warps the young people’s ideas of sex, love and intimacy:
“One huge concern is the personal isolation that porn creates. It is such a fake form of intimacy and love, it does the absolute opposite of fulfilling each person’s need for intimacy and love. ... There are great negative effects on people on a social, personal, family and relational level.
“It is just a lie, a false presentation (of love and intimacy) … Many, if not most, kids are starting to get addicted.”
He went on to suggest that the crisis of Internet pornography was something that parents, congregations and communities needed to act on, because “Kids ages 11 to 17 are the highest consumers of pornography, according to recent statistics.”
This man’s well-meaning but destructive
campaign was based on misconceptions,
driven by fear, probably his own fears, of the power that sexual arousal
has in his life and that of others.

it doesn’t change one’s brain, and children under 17 are definitely NOT the highest consumers of pornography.

As an advocate against the sex/porn addiction industry, I am regularly challenged with fear-based rhetoric, that porn and sex can lead people to dangerous, destructive, frightening sexual acts…
A reaction formation is a psychological concept, whereby a person with a strong, uncomfortable desire, develops an even stronger, exaggerated, public stance against that secret, shameful desire. …Animosity against LGBT Catholics is nothing new, but it seems to be increasing in intensity, perhaps in response to an overall growing acceptance and support for LGBT people in the United States and even by Pope Francis, who famously responded "Who am I to judge?" in response to a question about homosexuality…
But there is plenty of judging still happening, say LGBT activists, theologians and ministers, who believe the decidedly anti-Christian tone of recent threats and attacks mirror a lack of civility in the broader culture.
Fueled by well-funded conservative groups that represent a minority of Catholics but are disproportionately vocal, especially on social media, this "Catholic alt right" also has seized upon this summer's news about sexual abuse in the church to scapegoat gay priests and homosexuality.
These traditionalist Catholics say they are only defending church teaching on homosexuality and calling LGBT people to practice chastity, as was the message from speaker after speaker at the "Authentic Reform" conference sponsored by the Napa Institute earlier this fall.
But conservative Catholics' near- obsession with the issue is concerning to those who support LGBT Catholics…
"Is this how we as a Christian community behave toward those who are different than us?" asked Stan "JR" Zerkowski, executive director of Fortunate Families, a Catholic organization that tries to build bridges between families, friends and allies of the LGBTQ community and the church.

For some, the animosity is internalized and can become a life-or-death issue. Studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that LGBT youth seriously contemplate or attempt suicide at higher rates than heterosexual youth. At least one study has connected higher suicide rates among LGBT youth with increased importance of religion in their lives (unlike for their heterosexual counterparts, for whom religiosity is a protective factor)…
"I'm seeing the people of God rise up and saying 'This is so ugly, and this is not who we are," said Zerkowski, who sees growing acceptance of LGBT people as the "voice of the people expressing the will of the Spirit."
Roughly two thirds of U.S Catholics favor same-sex marriage, with even larger numbers opposing discrimination against LGBT people in jobs, public accommodations and housing, according to the 2017 "American Values" data from the Public Religion Research Institute…

But as acceptance increases, especially among younger Catholics, the opposition becomes more extreme, as it did in past civil rights movements. Many LGBT Catholics are concerned about a ratcheting up of animosity against people in a number of marginal groups since the election of President Donald Trump.

Conservative Catholic groups that oppose homosexuality, such as Church Militant, LifeSite News and the Lepanto Institute, are using even more extreme tactics similar to Breitbart News or other alt-right organizations in the broader culture, said theologian Jason Steidl, who terms such groups the "Catholic alt right."
