Pope Francis will open the secret archives on Pope Pius XII

Pope Francis announced today that the Vatican archives regarding the pontificate of Pope Pius XII will be opened for consultation by researchers on March 2, 2020.
He said the archival documentation “that goes up to his death at Castel Gandolfo on October 9, 1958,” will be available for research purposes. He said this will happen on the 81st anniversary of the election of Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli as pope.
The documentation will clarify the role played by Pius XII during the Second World War and afterward. Pius, who was pope from 1939 to 1958, has been strongly attacked for not speaking out publicly against the Holocaust but defended by some for the hidden work he did to help many victims of the Nazis, fascists and communists.
Pope Benedict XVI recalled in a homily marking the 50th anniversary of Pius’s death that a letter from the former Israeli foreign minister Golda Meir to the Vatican in 1958 praised him because “when fearful martyrdom came to our people in the decade of Nazi terror, the voice of the pope was raised for the victims.”…
The documentation will clarify the role played by Pius XII during the Second World War and afterward.
In his talk today, Pope Francis revealed that he had made the decision to open the archives after consultation with his closest collaborators. Alluding to the various criticisms against Pius XII and the enormous difficulties he had to face, Francis said he did so “with a serene and trusting soul, certain that the serious and objective historical research will know how to evaluate in the right light, with appropriate critique, the exalted moments of that pontiff and, without doubt also the moments of great difficulty, of tormented decisions, of human and Christian prudence, which to some may appear as reticence, and which were instead efforts, human but also much contested (“combattuti”).”
Francis said Pius XII sought “to keep alive, in the darkest and most cruel periods, the flame of humanitarian initiatives, of hidden but active diplomacy, of hope in a possible good opening of hearts.”…

A notable difference is that Hitler and the Nazi regime exploited societal prejudices against homosexuality from the outside to tried to destroy the Catholic Church's reputation and the curial RC Hierarchy members, in their fierce rejection of the science on homosexuality, strongly continue to believe that the same societal prejudices against homosexuality are valid and they are destroying Catholic Church's reputation from the inside. 

 The repressed homosexual curial members of the RC hierarchy who were in ways as children traumatized by the Nazis false accusations of the Catholic clergy being homosexual may have been duped into believing that they are protecting the Church: by silencing and removing gay priests, never speaking out publicly about the science on homosexuality, including not being supportive of any group of gay people, even during the AIDS crisis in the USA 1980s. But they were not protecting the Church. Instead, they were and are continuing to attack the Church in the same way that Hitler and the Nazi regime exploited homosexual societal prejudices, because as children growing up gay in Nazi Germany during their early childhood years were traumatized and UNCONSCIOUSLY  INTERNALIZED these fabricated exploited homosexual societal prejudices and believed them to be true - even as if coming from God. So they are just repeating the Nazis exploited version of these homosexual societal prejudices - but with the underling deadly ideology of nazism that homosexuals are “less then human” that they not deserving of the dignity of plain human respect, in the same way the Jews were treated. It is wrong to kill a human being, but not to kill a bug. Jews and homosexuals were not considered human - so it was not wrong to kill them  it would be like killing a bug. So, who cares about the science of a bug?  This is the pervasive attitude among the majority of the members of the curia and the RC Hierarchy regarding gay people. Hitler and the Nazi regime are the ones who falsely accused homosexuals of sexual abusing children. They did this to gain the peoples support in their retaliation against the Catholic Church to silence and remove to concentration camps their opposition the outspoken anti-nazi Catholic clergy.

 In addition, this may be another reason why there was such extensive cover-ups of the child sexual abuse cases ordered by the Vatican,  because of early childhood traumatizing fearful memories that people like the Nazis would once again orchestrate highly publicized attacks accusing the Catholic clergy of being homosexuals to silence and remove them to concentration camps never to be seen again.

Many clergy were imprisoned at Dachau Concentration Camp.[71][72] The first theologian arrived at Dachau in 1935, but from 1940, Dachau became the concentration point for clerical prisoners of the Nazi regime.[73] Of a total of 2,720 clergy recorded as imprisoned at Dachau, the overwhelming majority, some 2,579 (or 94.88%) were Catholic. Among the other denominations, there were 109 Evangelicals, 22 Greek Orthodox, 8 Old Catholics and Mariavites and 2 Muslims. In his Dachau: The Official History 1933–1945, Paul Berben noted that R. Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minster of propaganda orchestrated the attacks by once again exploiting German societal prejudices against homosexuals - to obscure Hitler’s real motive of revenge that not only was meant to destroy the Catholic clergy, but the Catholic Church as well. Goebbels was aware that an outwardly attack on the anti-nazi opposition of the Catholic clergy, would not be possible for fear of a public outrage would then be directed at Hitler and the Nazi Regime and make martyrs out of the priests they attacked and killed.  
Instead, Goebbels by exploiting homosexual prejudices he made these attacks against the Catholic clergy look like, again as it did on March 4, 1933 - Hitler’s efforts of being tough on crime. He did this by staging massive public trails of false accusations charging the clergy of the crime of homosexuality, because, at the time, homosexuality was a punishable crime under German law. Through Goebbels’s deceptive propaganda tactics - he not only succeeded in (1) covering up Hitler’s true intent, his barbaric revenge, he (2) silenced, and removed to concentration camps the opposition of the Catholic clergy. In addition, at the same time he was destroying the reputation of both, (3) the Catholic clergy and (4) the Catholic Church, while (5) arousing public violence against the Church and making public statement to (6) instill fear and intimidated others from speaking against Nazism. 

Hitler and the Nazi exploited the social homosexual prejudices of the conservative elites not only to help propel him into the dictatorship of Germany, but to justify his massacre of 150 to 200 victims in the event known as the “Night of the Long Knives” late June 1934, and to cover-up his lethal revenge against the Catholic clergy giving his approval to Goebbels to begin the public staged false accusations of homosexuality in the ‘immorality trials’ against clergy.

The time was not ripe for it…The anti-clericalism and anti-Church sentiments of the grass-roots Party activists simply could not be eradicated…The stranglehold that the Churches maintained over the values and mentalities of large sections of the population was an obvious thorn in the side of a Movement with its own highly intolerant ‘world-view’, which saw itself as making a total claim on soul as well as body. The assault on the practices and institutions of the Christian Churches was deeply embedded in the psyche of National Socialism…
At the same time, the activists could draw on the verbal violence of Party leaders towards the Churches for their encouragement. Goebbels’s orchestrated attacks on the clergy through the staged ‘immorality trials’ of Franciscans in 1937 – following usually trumped-up or grossly exaggerated allegations of sexual impropriety in the religious orders – provided further ammunition. And, in turn, however much Hitler on some occasions claimed to want a respite in the conflict, his own inflammatory comments gave his immediate underlings all the licence they needed to turn up the heat in the ‘Church struggle’, confident that they were ‘working towards the Führer’. 
Hitler’s impatience with the Churches prompted frequent outbursts of hostility. In early 1937, he was declaring that ‘Christianity was ripe for destruction’ (Untergang) , and that the Churches must yield to the ‘primacy of the state’, railing against any compromise with ‘the most horrible institution imaginable’…However, he indicated that at some point in the future Church and state would be separated, the Concordat of 1933 between the Reich and the Vatican dissolved (to provide the regime with a free hand), and the entire force of the Party turned to ‘the destruction of the clerics (Pfaffen)’…
Addressing the Gauleiter in mid-March, Hitler announced that he wanted ‘no ordinary victory’ over the Churches. Either one should keep quiet about an opponent (totschweigen), or slay him (totschlagen), was how he put it. In April, Goebbels reported with satisfaction that the Führer was becoming more radical in the ‘Church Question’, and had approved the start of the ‘immorality trials’ against clergy. It has been stated from historic research on Pope Francis's past that his greatest work to help people is done behind the scenes, simply out of the love of God. It is easily observed over the past 6 years that Pope Francis strenuously through in depth  prayer and actions is totally committed to living the scriptures in all aspects of his life, to the best of his ability, as summed up in the Two Greatest Commandments, Matthew 22:36-40. This rational steadfast foundational principle of TRUTH was the TRUTH that comes from the knowledge and the committed acceptance of the science on homosexuality regarding the proven fact that there is no connection between homosexuality and pedophilia.

This type of metamorphosis effect of TRUTH obtained from the acceptance of the science on homosexuality also indicates that this transformation could not have happen overnight. It indicates that an enormous amount of major strenuous work behind the scenes has been involved possibly even over the past 6 years. This has been the relentless reform work of Pope Francis behind the scenes, skipping all his vacations that has and continues to be inclusive of all God's people - meaning everyone, for verification of these facts - check his past agendas.

     Synergy is defined by Harris and Moran as a cooperative or combined action, and occurs when diverse or disparate individuals or groups collaborate for a commoncause. The objective is to increase effectiveness by sharing perceptions and experiences, insights, and knowledge. (Harris, & Moran, 2011, p.233). People think of synergy as something within an organization. It is usually when two parties collaborate and create a culture of excellence that is mutually beneficial. MILWAUKEE — Rembert George Weakland long has been regarded by his peers as the brightest member of the hierarchy in the American Roman Catholic Church...has politely but forthrightly told the Vatican to, in effect, soften its drive to coerce doctrinal uniformity by punishing dissenters.
He asserted that Draconian measures used throughout Christian history to silence those who challenge traditional church teaching have resulted in “much cruelty, suppression of theological creativity and lack of growth…”
Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton of Detroit predicted that the “cruel (and) demeaning” treatment of Archbishop Hunthausen would effectively “intimidate” his fellow prelates…

In an unusual move, the Vatican yesterday replied to critics of the disciplining of Archbishop Raymond G. Hunthausen of Seattle by issuing a four-page chronology disclosing the findings against him and explaining why much of his authority was superseded.
The chronology chided the 65-year-old Archbishop for putting the onus for the disciplinary action on the Vatican and for ''portraying this whole process as a one-sided affair.'' It said that by last year the Archbishop ''understood that the Holy See considered him lacking the firmness necessary to govern the archdiocese.''
In a move that stirred a national debate in the Roman Catholic church, Archbishop Hunthausen was forced early in September to relinquish authority in five key pastoral areas to an auxiliary bishop. This followed a two-year inquiry ordered by the Vatican into charges that liberal practices were being tolerated in the archdiocese. The conclusions of the inquiry were officially disclosed only in vague terms…

Ex-Swiss guard complains of sexual advances in Vatican

For almost 500 years, young men from all over Switzerland have made the trek to Rome to guard the pope as Swiss guards.
Now a former member of the elite division has revealed that, besides protecting the pontiff, he spent his two years in the Vatican rebuffing unwanted sexual advances from priests, bishops and even a high-ranking cardinal.
The unnamed guard told a Swiss newspaper that he was the subject of 20 “unambiguous sexual requests”.
“One night, after midnight, I received a call on my mobile phone,” said the former guard in the interview. “The person on the other end said he was a cardinal and he asked me to come to his room.”
On another occasion the guard, who said he served during the papacy of Pope John Paul II, found a bottle of whiskey outside his door alongside the calling card of an influential bishop.
He recalled a dinner with a priest in a Rome restaurant that took an unexpected turn.
“As the spinach and steak were served, the priest said to me: ‘And you are the dessert’,” recalled the ex-guard, saying he stood up and left without touching his food. When the guard complained about the incident to his superior in the guard, he said he was told that, as he spoke no Italian, he had clearly misunderstood the priest’s intentions…

ROME—It all started with the usual complaints from disgruntled neighbors: funny smells, slamming doors, loud music, the sound of squeaky beds and laughter late into the night. In almost any other situation anywhere in the world, the angry neighbors would have confronted the noisy tenant, maybe left a mean note on the door or complained to the landlord and the matter would be settled. 
But this particular dispute occurred in one of the most prestigious addresses in Rome, the so-called Ex Sant’Uffizio Palace, in the very apartment owned by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith where Joseph Ratzinger lived for decades before becoming Pope Benedict XVI. The palatial ochre-colored building is home to dozens of high-ranking cardinals who live within walking distance of their jobs at the Roman Curia in Vatican City next door.
The fed-up neighbors were simply sick of what they described as a “steady stream of young men” who frequented Ratzinger’s former apartment, which had been given to Monsignor Luigi Capozzi, the secretary for Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, who heads the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, which busies itself with deciphering and clarifying various points of canon law. So they called the cops, in this case the Vatican’s elite Swiss Guard gendarmerie unit, when the noise and movida nightlife just got to be too much.
The Vatican police showed up to find an orgy in progress, with an untold number of naked men allegedly writhing around the floor with Capozzi and his cohorts, who were apparently under the influence of hard drugs according to the Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano which broke the story that a host of Italian and international media have since picked up…

I spent much of this week reading and trying to absorb the new and devastating book by one Frédéric Martel on the gayness of the hierarchy at the top of the Catholic Church, In the Closet of the Vatican: Power, Homosexuality, Hypocrisy. It’s a bewildering and vast piece of reporting — Martel interviewed no fewer than “41 cardinals, 52 bishops and monsignori, 45 apostolic nuncios, secretaries of nunciatures or foreign ambassadors, 11 Swiss Guards and over 200 Catholic priests and seminarians.” He conducted more than 1,500 interviews over four years, is quite clear about his sources, and helps the reader weigh their credibility. He keeps the identity of many of the most egregiously hypocritical cardinals confidential, but is unsparing about the dead… 
…Martel didn’t expect this remarkable candor, or, clearly, what he was about to see: “Whether they are ‘practising’, ‘homophile’, ‘initiates’, ‘unstraights’, ‘wordly’, ‘versatile’, ‘questioning’, or simply ‘in the closet’, the world I am discovering, with its 50 shades of gay, is beyond comprehension.” 
Among the named sources: Francesco Lepore, a brilliant young gay Latin translator and priest. He soared through the ranks, directly serving Popes Benedict XVI and Francis, until, as a gay man, he found a way to quit his post because he couldn’t abide the double life he was forced to lead, or the rancid hypocrisy of the whole system. He says he saw everything from the inside: “He has had several lovers among archbishops and prelates; he has been propositioned by a number of cardinals, whom we discuss: an endless list. I have scrupulously checked all of those stories, making contact myself with those cardinals, archbishops, monsignori, nuncios, assistants, ordinary priests or confessors at St Peter’s, all basically homosexual.” This is not the peddling of innuendo, or salacious gossip. It’s reporting. 
I’m no naïf when it comes to the gayness of the church. I’ve lived in it as a gay man for all my adult life, and my eyes are open. And so the book did not surprise me, as such, but it still stunned, shocked, and disgusted me. You simply cannot unread it, or banish what is quite obviously true from your mind. It helps explain more deeply the rants of Pope Francis about so many of his cardinals, especially his denunciations of “Pharisees” and “hypocrites,” with their sexual amorality and their vast wealth and power. “Behind rigidity something always lies hidden; in many cases, a double life,” he has said. He has excoriated “hypocrites” who live “hidden and often dissolute lives,” those who “put makeup on their soul and live off makeup”; he has exclaimed in public that “hypocrisy does a lot of harm: it’s a way of life.” 
The only tiny consolation of the book is the knowledge that we now have a pope…who knows what he’s dealing with, and has acted, quite ruthlessly at times, to demote, defrock, or reassign the most egregious cases to places where they have close to nothing to do. And if you want to understand the ferocity of the opposition to him on the Catholic right, this is the key. His most determined opponents are far-right closet cases, living in palaces, leading completely double lives, backed by the most vicious of reactionaries and bigots on the European and American far right, and often smarting at their demotions…
       ...Gay men need to be embraced not as some manifestation of “intrinsic moral evil” but as human beings made in the image of God and capable of mutual love, care, and support. Gay priests with integrity need to be defended as strongly as the hypocrites need to be exposed and expelled. Francis is nudging the church toward this more humane and Christian future, but the more he does so, the more fervently this nest of self- haters and bigots will try to destroy him...
       ... It will also be fascinating to see how the various factions within Catholicism will respond to it. Some liberals — the Jesuit Jim Martin and Frank Bruni — fret that this book provides the far right with all the ammunition they need to wage a new war on homosexuality in the church. Martin is obviously embarrassed by what he calls “an ocean of gossip and innuendo,” although he doesn’t argue that anything in the book is untrue. But if the Catholic right wants to weaponize the book, they’ll have to take on their own icons, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, and a whole range of their closest allies in the church. And the core thesis of the book — which is that it is the hypocrisy of the closet that is the real problem — is not one the right will be able easily to absorb.
        My own view is that all that matters is the truth. “Be not afraid!” as John Paul II once said. “Of what should we not be afraid? We should not be afraid of the truth about ourselves.” Critically, Martel reaches the same conclusion I did recently — the omertà of the closet was a core reason for sex abuse. Gay priests felt unable to report pedophiles or abusers or hypocrites because they too could be outed by the abusers and forced out. There is no vast organized conspiracy. There is no “gay lobby.” There is a “honeycomb of closets,” often insulated from each other, built on deception and self-hatred, that amounts to a system where protecting the image of the church became far more important than saving children from rapists. There can be no meaningful reform until this closet is ended, and the whole sick, twisted syndrome is unwound...

A favorite Argentine national pastime consists of debate over the supposed demise or latest claim to revival of the national dance. Is the tango already dead? Or are the dance and its music not only alive but one of the most complete expressions of Argentine character? Endless discussions of these conflicting opinions and the deep concern expressed on all sides over the death of the tango constitute the most important evidence that the dance, or at least its accompanying complex of music, song, and tradition, lives on in the minds of the Argentines. Other indications of this fact abound in a first glance at everyday life in the nation's cities and towns: the presence in every bookshop of current popularized analyses of the dance; the superabundance of recordings of each tango and each tango artist; the proportion of broadcasting hours dedicated solely to tango; the re-runs of old tango movies; and the use of the dance complex as the subject of new theater productions, art exhibits, and lectures. 
An examination of the continuing role of the tango in Argentina today entails a definition of the interrelated elements of tango as folklore, song, and dance. The following investigation deals with three groups of themes: those consisting of the characteristics of the environment which produced the tango, those forming the moral or emotional base of the tango and explicitly stated in its lyrics, and those found in the choreography of the dance itself. 
…Perhaps the most striking characteristic of the groups of tango enthusiasts is the fact that the membership is exclusively male. Not only that, but none of the female friends or relatives of the members show the slightest evidence of interest in the tango. Active interest in the dance complex appears to be entirely male; women develop an interest in tango only if they develop interest in an hombre tanguero. This seems to be a pattern which has not changed much over the years from the days when men danced together to the organitos and in the brothels through the era of the cafe-bar to the present. Fifty years ago Felix Weingartner wrote, "The majority of the women who dance tango do so quite badly, while the men are almost all excellent dancers" (quoted in de Lara 1961:99). In 1966 a porteno told me that he as a boy in the 1940s had learned tango when he and a group of boys became interested in the subject together. They all learned to dance by practicing with each other. "It was difficult to find women who danced well. I practiced with my sisters and my cousins but the girls did it badly. I did not have a good partner until I married and taught my wife.”…

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in Argentina are among the most advanced in its region. Upon legalising same-sex marriage on July 15, 2010, Argentina became the first country in Latin America, the second in the Americas, and the tenth in the world to do so. The country also "has one of the world's most comprehensive transgender rights laws": its Gender Identity Law, passed in 2012, made Argentina the "only country that allows people to change their gender identities without facing barriers such as hormone therapy, surgery or psychiatric diagnosis that labels them as having an abnormality". In 2015, the World Health Organization cited Argentina as an exemplary country for providing transgender rights. The country also allows bisexual and gay men to donate blood and, in 2016, agreed to join the Global Equality Fund.
In Pew Research Center's 2013 Global Attitudes Survey, Argentina was the Latin American country with the most positive societal attitudes towards homosexuality, with about three-quarters (74%) of those surveyed saying it should be accepted. The country's capital and largest city, Buenos Aires, has become an important recipient of LGBT tourism and has been described as "Latin America's gay capital".

But privately, they kept raising one issue not on the agenda: homosexuality…
…Pope Francis has clearly shifted the discussion, if not church doctrine, to a more inclusive position on homosexuality. 
                In 2013, he responded to questions about a supposed “gay lobby” in the Vatican by saying, “Who am I to judge?” — a remark that liberals celebrated and conservatives lamented…
…Some conservative American prelates have sought to bring down Francis, seeing him as a protector of a gay subculture that is corrupting the clergy. Some have said his positions are eroding the church’s traditional values and planting the seeds of sexual abuse…

Asked about Cardinal Müller’s remarks, Cardinal Cupich told reporters “it’s important to admit the fact” that the predominance of underage victims are male. But he pointed to landmark studies in the United States and Australia showing that homosexuality in itself is not a cause of child sex abuse, and that access to children is a major factor. 
Each day at the meeting, reporters from conservative Catholic news outlets peppered the meeting’s organizers with questions about why they are dodging the topic of homosexuality. 
Their short answer: because it is irrelevant. 
Homosexuality has “nothing to do with the sexual abuse of minors,” Archbishop Charles Scicluna of Malta, the Vatican’s leading sex crimes investigator, said on Friday… 
…Those who attack Pope Francis “are very homophobic and for the large part live a double homosexual life,” Mr. Martel said Wednesday at a news conference in Rome… 
Some advocates for gay equality in the church said their message seemed to have gotten through to church leaders.    
Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry in Maryland, a Catholic organization that supports gay men and lesbians, said in Rome that he was pleasantly surprised at the conference to find homosexuality “debunked as a cause” of abuse…

In the months leading up to the Vatican’s four-day summit on the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, some U.S. prelates, activists and even some journalists tried to link homosexuality with the abuse crisis, in attempts to urge church officials to take a hard line against gay priests. 
But the topic was barely broached during the summit, and when it was, leading prelates dismissed any connection…
…Pope Francis also seemed to dismiss the link between homosexuality and the abuse crisis. During a speech given Feb. 24, the final day of the summit, he said that the abuse of minors is “always the result of an abuse of power.” He also asked bishops to “rise above the ideological disputes and journalistic practices that often exploit, for various interests, the very tragedy experienced by the little ones.” 
Juan Carlos Cruz, a survivor of sexual abuse from Chile who now lives in the United States, told America that he rejects attempts by some Catholics to pin the abuse crisis on gay priests…
               …Pope Francis and his allies have repeatedly blamed a clerical culture that places priests and their well-being above lay people. 
                Speaking to reporters in Rome on Feb. 18, Chicago’s Cardinal Blase Cupich, one of the summit’s organizers, citing academic studies of the abuse crisis in the United States and Australia, said the research has “indicated that homosexuality in itself is not a cause.”
…Some Catholic organizations and activists are leveling a campaign against gay priests, using the ongoing abuse crisis as a platform…

As for Mr. Cruz, he said the heart of the crisis is allowing priests who have abused children to remain in ministry. From early childhood psychological developmental years - gay children are traumatized taught that they are never to fall in love. But more importantly we will see how this Nazi antigay ruthlessness was perpetuated through the unconscious terrorized memories of a very young child growing up during these times, in Nazi Germany, who had a front row seat, as it were - being exposed to these highly publicized antigay events due to the fact that his father was a strong outspoken anti-nazi policemen. This very young child beginning at the age of 6 years old in 1933 would likely have been exposed: to the Nazis, under the orders of Hitler, were closing of gay bars the day before election to give the public impression that Hitler was strong on crime, but it was done to gain public support that ushered him into becoming the dictator of Nazi Germany, in 1934 to the highly publicized event known as the “Night of the Long Knives” when Hitler accused the Stormtroopers and its leaders of the crime of homosexuality, which he did to disguised his real intent which was to kill off his opposition and in 1935-6 and 1937 after the release of “Mit brennender Sorge,” also accusing the anti-nazi outspoken Catholic clergy of the crime of homosexuality in order to silence and remove them to concentration camps were they were killed, to avoid public outrage.

  …Tensions between same-sex camaraderie, revolutionary demands, and the SA’s new pretension to legitimate authority reached a head by mid-1934. The stormtroopers’ loud insistence on their honor and privileges, their rampant corruption and excess, and their continued use of violence in public spaces now threatened to undermine the Nazi movement. Hitler and his cronies took action, purging the SA of its leaders and settling old scores in a national massacre that lasted for days. 
  Hitler then mobilized political homophobia as his prime justification for the purge, arguing that he had acted to extirpate the rot of homosexuality from SA and party ranks. Now that the group was cleansed, he said, every German mother could again feel safe with the party in charge. The stormtroopers had thus fallen victim to sexualized political paradigms that they themselves had strengthened.
 After June 1934, not only were homosexual stormtroopers (who had been accepted or lived undercover) chased out of the organization, all SA men were now under the scrutiny of a Nazi Party able and eager to police its citizens’ sexual morality and family circumstances. In other words, the authoritarian family policies the Nazis later imposed on all Germany came first to the stormtroopers. 
In 1935, the regime chose the anniversary of the purge to publish its extended version of P175, which expanded the category of the crime far beyond “actions resembling coitus,” the previous standard. Now, Nazi judges could decree any act — even a simple touch or look — as evidence of homosexuality. The situation had become so inflamed that denouncers even began to consider negative interest in homosexuality as evidence of same-sex orientation. 
The SA resolved to prevent any association between itself and homosexuality in the public mind. It did so first by hunting down its own homosexual members, no matter how valuable their service had been. Hitler ordered the SA cleansed of any association with homosexuality, whether proven or alleged. Yet even heterosexual men now discovered that the Party and the SA intended to monitor their sexual lives and their family relationships as well…  Photo

    …The quest for national rebirth lay, of course, at the heart of all fascist movements. But only in Germany did the striving for national renewal adopt such strongly pseudo-religious tones…
    …They could find rationality in irrationality; could turn into practical reality the goals associated with Hitler, needing no further legitimitation than recourse to the ‘wish of the Führer’. This was no ‘banality of evil’. This was the working of an ideologically-motivated élite coldly prepared to plan for the eradication of 11 million Jews (the figure laid down at the Wannsee Conference of January 1942), and for the ‘resettlement’ to the Siberian wastes, plainly genocidal in intent, of over 30 million, mainly Slavs, over the following 25 years. That, in such a system, they would find countless ‘willing executioners’ prepared to do their bit, whatever the individual motivation of those involved, goes without saying. This was, however, not on account of national character, or some long-existent, specifically German desire to eliminate the Jews. Rather, it was that the idea of racial cleansing, the core of the notion of national salvation, had become, via Hitler’s leadership position, institutionalized in all aspects of organized life in the nazi state. That was decisive. 
    Unquestionably, Hitler was a unique historical personality. But the uniqueness of the nazi dictatorship cannot be reduced to that. It is explained less by Hitler’s character, extraordinary as it was, than by the specific form of rule which he embodied and its corrupting effect on the instruments and mechanisms of the most advanced state in Europe. Both the broad acceptance of the ‘project’ of ‘national salvation’, seen as personified in Hitler, and the internalization of the ideological goals by a new, modern power-élite, operating along- side weakened old élites through the bureaucratic sophistication of a modern state, were necessary prerequisites for the world-historical catastrophe of the Third Reich.

   …Let me simply note in conclusion four points. First, it is important to appreciate not just the extent to which the Nazis were able to draw upon the imagery and authority of medicine, but also the extent to which Nazi ideology informed the practice of medical science. Secondly, physicians were not bystanders, or even pawns; many (not all, but not a few) helped to construct the racial policies of the Nazi state. It is probably as fair to say that Nazi racial policy emerged from within the scientific community, as to say that it was imposed upon that community. Thirdly, it is commonly said that the Nazis “politicized” science, and that much of what went wrong under the Nazis can be traced to this politicization. The argument I’ve made here is that one can’t consider the experience of the medical profession in terms of a simple “use and abuse” model of science. Among physicians, there were as many volunteers as victims; no one had to force physicians to support the regime. Hans Hefelmann testified to this effect in the euthanasia trial at Limburg in 1964: “[N]o doctor was ever ordered to participate in the euthanasia program; they came of their own volition.”7(p193)
  The Nazis did not have to politicize science; in fact, it is probably fair to say that the Nazis “de-politicized science”—in the sense that they destroyed the political diversity that had made Weimar medicine and public health the envy of the world (with its local outpatient clinics, self-help networks, single-payer reimbursement, and similarly progressive programs). Nazism itself was supposed to transcend politics. The German state was to be a Volksstaat, not a Parteistaat; National Socialism was to be counted a “movement,” not a “party.” The Nazis medicalized politics as much as they politicized medicine; racial minorities were ostracized and then exterminated, and problems of sexual or social deviance (or both) were transformed into “surgical problems” in need of surgical solutions.
  Finally, I do not want to leave the impression that the horrors of this period can be attributed to anything inherent in science or in medicine, or even in “technocracy” or the rule of professional elites. It took a powerful state to concentrate and unleash the destructive forces within German medicine, and without that state, science would have remained impotent in this sphere. In the midst of a war engineered by an aggressive, expansionist state, Nazi ideologues were able to turn to doctors to carry out acts that have come to be regarded as the embodiment of evil…

the Nazi Dismissal Policy of 1933

   In 1933, the Nazi regime in Germany passed the Civil Service Law, which dismissed non-Aryans and the “politically unreliable” from state employment…On top of this, Nazi Germans associated Jews with modern science because of the high number of Jews working in science. These dismissals included scientists from teaching and other governmental positions. Of those dismissed from their positions, some left their homeland and some remained in Germany. In either case, the dismissal of professors from their appointments adversely affected German science.
   During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, German laboratories and industrial institutions had been the best, most innovative, in the world. In fact, between 1901 and 1932, one third of all Nobel Prize winners hailed from Germany…Certainly, the Nazi regime’s Dismissal Policy, especially toward theoretical scientists, spurred the decline in the quality of German science and enriched the scientific establishments of its enemies. By 1939, for example, the level of chemistry in the United States, a country frequently adopted by the German refugees, had risen dramatically…
   …The pace picked up after Adolph Hitler’s ascent to power in January 1933. Between 1933 and 1939, over 1,700 scientists rejected Nazi-imposed restrictions on science and left Germany to seek sanctuary in other lands. 
  Many of the scientists who left objected to Nazi-enforced methods of science. The Nazis’ “new science” was not objective; it was certainly not the “common property of mankind;” and the party used it to serve its own purposes. In June 1936, Dr. Bernhard Rust, German Minister of Science…declared that Nazism and official ideology were more important than was empirical, objective science. Turning the notion of empirical truth on its head, he argued that “Science which is not in accord with it [German ideology] is not objective.”…In Germany, as the New York Times reported, not even “a laboratory worker [could] decide for himself what the philosophy of science [should] be,” implying that science was a merely a tool of the dictatorship to be manipulated by the Führer and his party. Prominent scientists willingly gave themselves and their study to the regime.
  Nazi science naturally contained a racial element to it: theoretical science was “Jewish” and non-theoretical was “Aryan.” The Nazis dismissed the validity of Jewish science, especially physics, a field where Jews were particularly prominent…Dr. Otto Wacker of the Ministry of Education clearly stated the party’s view…in 1936: “The problems of science do not present themselves the same way to all men. The Negro and the Jew will view the same world differently from the Germans.” He also claimed that true science resulted from the “superior qualities of ‘Nordic’ research…
  The Nazi failure to develop an atomic weapon symbolized the disfunctionality of Nazi science wherein a priori ideology trumped scientific accomplishment. The Third Reich promoted a subjective view of science that rejected theoretical ideas. Because of the disproportionate number of Jews in science, the Nazis associated modern science with the Jewish people. The Nazis dismissed hundreds of Jewish and Aryan scientists who practiced theoretical science. Many also left their institutions and Germany on their own volition. The Nazi Civil Service Law of 1933 had set in motion events that led to the downfall of German science and contributed significantly to Germany’s eventual destruction in 1945…

BENEDICT XVI was

It was not Benedict’s fault that he was born and raised the first 18 years of his life in Nazi Germany. The problem with early childhood exposure and or experienced traumatic events is that the memories of such events can be sealed in the unconscious that continue to disrupt adult child victims until if they are able to be recovered and integrate in the person’s life. On continuum from mild to extreme happens to everyone to some degree. It is just that in Benedict XVI case the traumatic situation and events are historically unprecedented way over the top. From my studies and research on the Holocaust - I have learned emphatically not to be self-righteously judgmental, because no one knows how they would react if they were put in the same situation. In Benedict case, his life-long harmful effects have been reenacted throughout his Vatican career of 32 years. Benedict is NOT a Nazi!!! However, unconsciously from endless traumatic events and situations he had been exposed to throughout his early childhood years and until he reached the age of 18 years growing up in Nazi Germany, there are identifiable reenactments that are seeds of Nazism e.g.  in his arbitrary sections of what sciences he considers essential and what sciences he considers not essential, in regards to his formulation of his document on homosexuality in particular his -1986 LETTER TO THE BISHOPS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON THE PASTORAL CARE OF HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS. Benedict’s "regressive unilateral reductionism" of limiting the science on homosexuality to natural sciences - in essence he eliminated the empirical research of Evelyn Hooker's 1957 ''The Adjustment of the Male Overt Homosexual''  finding gay men who are openly accepting of their sexual orientation are mentally as healthy as heterosexual men. This decision of Benedict is the same kind of Nazi irrational thinking that formulated the pseudo-science that became the basis of the “Racial Policy Nazi Germany” that combined a Eugenics Program with Racial Hygiene that led to Compulsory Sterilization and Extermination of the Jewish people as the Untermenschen (“sub-humans”) that Culminated in the HOLOCAUST (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_policy_of_Nazi_Germany). Benedict’s 1986 regressive unilateral reductionism formulation of homosexuality has been culminating in a Holocaust of Structural Violence of children in their early childhood years that far surpasses the atrocities of Hitler’s and the Nazi regime’s Holocaust of the Jewish people and all the other peoples they arbitrarily consider to be “less than human.” And the silence and indifference like it was with the Jewish people 1933-1945 the same is true of the laity the past 30 years, though many have been courageous in trying to rectify these atrocities, but it is especially shockingly true of the RC hierarchy, though not all, however, the majority. 

 It is interesting to note that Dr. Evelyn Hooker was in Berlin from 1937 to 1938 on a fellowship to study at the Institute for Psychotherapy in Berlin, at the time that Goebbels was orchestrating the highly publicized staged homosexual "immorality trials" against the outspoken anti-nazi Catholic clergy (Nazis Unleash Vicious Attacks on Roman Catholic Church - May 29, 1937 - Chicago Daily Tribune). And in addition, Dr. Hooker was also in the United States during the era of US Senator Joseph McCarthy - his witch hunting for homosexuals in the 1950s. Dr. Hooker was a courageous woman researcher because - "At the peak of the McCarthy period, in 1953, she applied and received a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health" to do her groundbreaking research on homosexuals completed in 1957 as noted above.

Understanding Benedict’s unconscious behavior is not unusual, because how often have you heard or even you may have stated that “I am not going to be like either my mother or father regarding some abusive behavior,” only to find - later in life that you learned or it is pointed out to you that you have been exactly imitating their behavior, while all the time you were completely unaware of doing so.  

Only in Benedict’s case his early childhood exposure was to multiple forms of Nazis atrocious behaviors dehumanizing Jewish people and other groups of people based on their arbitrary formulated pseudo-science - choosing only the sciences that supported their ideology of nazism to be able to consider these groups of people to be "less than human," including homosexuals. These Nazi atrocities steadily radically increased in severe inhuman brutality over the duration of his first 18 years of life, a phenomena that has been labeled “CUMULATIVE RADICALIZATION.” Benedict, from extensive documentation imitated the same Nazi procedures solely in regards to his treatment of homosexuals that was based on his arbitrary formation of the science of homosexuality not based on all science. This was not a conscious action of Benedict, it is unconscious behavior stemming from repressed traumatic events - the Nazis ruthless treatment of homosexuals that he was exposed to growing up in Nazi Germany. 

What we can learn from Benedict's behavior is how crucial the early childhood psychological developmental years are to the safety and well-being of the child throughout the child's lifetime and to all the people this child will have influence over in this child's lifetime. Benedict is responsible for the “50 Shades of” closeted gays in the Vatican. Collectively these closeted gay prelates are obsessively concerned over a "gay agenda" existing in the Vatican - this "gay agenda"   solely exists in their own minds - it is their own paranoia stemming from their suppression of their own gay sexual feelings. This is a sample of the lifelong harmful effects caused to children growing up gay during their early childhood years caused by the influence of the Vatican's unsubstantiated antigay teachings. It is the reason why I came out in March 1997 to draw public attention to help identify and to stop this kind of severe form of child abuse. These "50 Shades of" closeted gays in the Vatican helps to clearly define the mentally healthy difference, discovered by Dr. Evelyn Hooker's research 1957, of the gays who are OUT and are accepting and comfortable with their gay sexual orientation and the well  documented mentally dysfunctional violent antics of the Vatican's "50 Shades of" closeted gays.

A deeper look at Benedict’s behavioral, due to the absence of all science on homosexuality on his part - is first an attack on himself - in the form of self-hatred and self-injury. Since, there is not science on the term “Deep-Seated Homosexual Tendencies” it is then a subjective term of the internal state of the person who made it - to describe homosexuality. And using this term to eliminate men to the priesthood it has quite the opposite effect - it opens wide the door for the endless acceptance of numbers of men with the same mental disorder of the “50 Shades of” closeted gay persons already in the RC hierarchy.  Yes it is NUTS!!! But deadly!!! “Deep-Seated Homosexual Tendencies” is a term of a severely fanatically repressed homosexual. Especially RC prelates who eliminate science - all science from their description of homosexuality - becomes in effect their “free association” and tells us everything about their repressed homosexual lives and the difficulties they have had all lifelong trying to repress the natural gay sexual orientation tendencies. As Benedict has stated in Caritas in veritate they have destroyed TRUTH and have twisted the meaning of LOVE to mean the opposite. When reading their demeaning words to attack Pope Francis - just try untwisting them and aimed them back at the person who stated them - see if they fit. Like a global chorus the RC prelates who attacked Pope Francis and the bishops in the Feb. Summit on child abuse who accepted the science on homosexuality that it is not connected to the child sexual abuse - the members of this chorus are publicly “coming out” loud and clear - as gay, though as “50 Shades of” closeted gays e.g. Raymond Burke, Brandmüller, Chaput, Muller, Sarah, Morlino, Vigano, Bertone, Paprocki, Kurtz “a tragic error,” Strickland, Catholic Bishops (USCCB) “profoundly immoral and unjust,” Wenski, Galecki, etc., etc., etc... including priests. What these guys better be worried about is the torpedo or more like a  meteorite aimed at them for the child abuse they caused by their fierce unsubstantiated (by science) anti-gay public statements claiming that it is Church Doctrine, which also won't save them from doing jail time. Doing jail time for the millions of children lives growing up in their early childhood years that they have destroyed. Destroyed  by causing these children to have lifelong mental and physical health problems by forcing them to suppress their natural gay sexual orientation that they could have been prevented. They could have prevented because the science on homosexual sexual orientation is in abundance and readily available to everyone online - forthcoming indictments and lawsuits will be out sight that will make the present child sexual abuse cover-ups scandals seem quite minor in comparison. And lawyers will be able do data mining in this era of social media that was not possible with the decades of child sexual abuse cover-ups, it will also include indicting and suiting the social media networks that promoted people like Burke. Burke will not have to worry about what vestments to wear - he will be wearing stripes or orange jumpsuits. This is not even the tip of the iceberg of what is in store for them for their crimes committed against very young defenseless children (not unlike the Nazi war crimes indictments following at the end of WWII) and that is just here on earth. 

It is the Holocaust of Structural Violence of children that warrants this immediate action. RC hierarchy should study all the science on homosexuality and know yourself. More clinical information will be forthcoming on this topic - later. It is very complex. I  came out, 22 years, in March 25, 1997 that was a two month process of parish education classes on sexual orientation and the parish did not fall apart, however the curia did. I came out specifically to draw attention to this Holocaust of Structural Violence of children who grow up to be gay to help stop the lifelong harmful effects that comes from faithfully following the Vatican's teaching on homosexuality that are unsubstantiated by science. I was really angry about coming out, because I could not understand why the curia did not already know this science on homosexuality and that it should have been their top priority as it was for Jesus. I did not realize they were all victims of this form of early childhood abuse that I came out to protect children from - being forced to suppress their natural gay sexual orientation tendencies. Instead, of the curia getting active to save children - they turned to severely attack me (Burke's & Vigano's style) and to destroy my reputation - though I believe - thanks to some very, very, very generous people they have turned up leads and are working to find the connections to RC hierarchy members - for prosecution including all involved. I am not involved in any of this. I have no time to be involved - because all my time is focused completely on protecting children, and it has remained unchanged since 1997, the attacks (endless) that I have endured meant to intimidate me - had, I assure you, quite the opposite effect. They have exposed more information about the attackers and the networks involved in their orchestration. Knowledge and prayer are powerful in the protection of children! The Good Lord will take care of me.

Catholic LGBT History: 30th Anniversary of the “Ratzinger Letter”

Thirty years ago today,  the Vatican released a document entitle “Letter to the Bishops on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons.”… 
It’s official Latin title is perhaps the most telling about the document’s contents.  Latin titles of church documents are always the first two or three words of the document itself.  In this case, the Latin title is “Homosexualitatis probelma” or “the problem of homosexuality.” From the very first words of the document, the author understood the issue in negative terms, as a problem.  The introductory paragraphs explain that the letter was written in response to a growing acceptance of homosexuality, not only in society, but in the church too:
“The issue of homosexuality and the moral evaluation of homosexual acts have increasingly become a matter of public debate, even in Catholic circles.”  (section 1)
Reading between the lines, and remembering the historical context of this document, it’s important to point out that this Letter was, in fact, a reaction to many positive developments concerning lesbian and gay persons that were occurring in Catholicism.  The 1970s and early 1980s were a rich time for discussion and initiatives in the Church around lesbian and gay issues. Pulse anniversary: Church plays wounding role to LGBT people

When Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded 48 others inside a prominent gay night club in Orlando, Florida, a year ago this week, the city's Catholic bishop, John G. Noonan, denounced what he called a "massive assault on the dignity of human life." The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops lamented the "unspeakable violence." The Vatican's press office released a statement decrying "such terrible and absurd violence." Among these sincere expressions of grief, not one recognized the fact that this assault on human dignity and this horrific crime had targeted gay people specifically. 
Even as nearly every bishop in the country missed an obvious opportunity to express solidarity with LGBT people in the wake of the Pulse nightclub shooting, those in the church hierarchy who did respond clearly — including Chicago's Cardinal Blase Cupich — offer cautious hope that the nation's most influential church can chart a better path forward when it comes to affirming the human rights of LGBT people. 
The first step in what will be a slow healing process is for Catholic leaders to acknowledge the church plays a role in wounding LGBT people by using dehumanizing language. 
While the Catechism of the Catholic Church rejects violence and "unjust discrimination" against LGBT people, it also calls homosexuality an "inclination" that is "objectively disordered." Before he was elected Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger led the Vatican's chief doctrine office for more than two decades. In a 1986 "Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons," Ratzinger described homosexuality as a "tendency toward an intrinsic moral evil." Seventeen years later, he wrote that growing recognition of same-sex civil unions legitimized the "approval of deviant behavior…
Dehumanizing language has consequences. "It doesn't reflect that our experiences as gay and lesbian persons are a gift, something that brings us closer to other people and to God," said Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry, an organization that works to build bridges between LGBT Catholics and the church. "People are alienated by this language and feel rejected. It ends conversations rather than begins conversations." San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy, who has played a key role in encouraging the U.S. hierarchy to adopt Pope Francis' more inclusive attitude, has suggested the church needs to rethink language such as "intrinsically disordered." In an interview with America, a Jesuit magazine, he called that terminology "very destructive language that I think we should not use pastorally." He explained that "in Catholic moral theology it is a philosophical term that is automatically misunderstood in our society as a psychological judgment.”…
For a pope, the way that Francis speaks about gays and lesbians is nothing short of revolutionary. "A person once asked me, in a provocative manner, if I approved of homosexuality," the pope said in a 2013 interview. "I replied with another question: 'Tell me: when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person? We must always consider the person." When asked by reporters about gay priests at the Vatican, his now iconic quote flew around the globe in minutes. "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord, who am I to judge?" Last summer, Francis even said that gays and lesbians deserve an apology from the church, a first for a pope. The prominent author and Jesuit Fr. James Martin hailed it as a "groundbreaking moment.”…

…Spending close to an hour answering questions from reporters traveling with him, Pope Francis was asked to comment on remarks reportedly made a few days previously by Cardinal Reinhard Marx, president of the German bishops' conference, that the Catholic Church must apologize to gay people for contributing to their marginalization.
At the mention of the massacre in early June at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, Pope Francis closed his eyes as if in pain and shook his head in dismay.
"The church must say it is sorry for not having behaved as it should many times, many times -- when I say the 'church,' I mean we Christians because the church is holy; we are the sinners," the pope said.  "We Christians must say we are sorry."
Changing what he had said in the past to the plural "we," Pope Francis said that a gay person, "who has good will and is seeking God, who are we to judge him?"

The above is a subjective statement made by Cardinal Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) in 1986 that is not based on the complete science on homosexuality. It is alarmingly not TRUTH. From authoritative accepted science on homosexuality from both the medical and mental health fields of studies - it is noted that the forced suppression of a child’s homosexual sexual orientation jeopardizes the child’s safety and well-being - causing depression and suicidal ideation significantly limiting the child’s fulfillment and happiness even the child's life. Benedict has managed to commit (most likely unconsciously) THE BREACH in the dialogue between science and religion - what he severely warns against in Caritas in veritate - twisting the meaning of love around to come to mean the opposite: 

…Without truth, charity degenerates into sentimentality. Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. The letter of Pope John Paul II to Rev. George Coyne dated 1988 two years  after Benedict’s LETTER TO THE BISHOPS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON THE PASTORAL CARE OF HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS 1986. John Paul addresses and corrects the specific Breach made by Benedict of his “regressive tendency to a unilateral reductionism, to fear, and to self-imposed isolation.”

Benedict at the very beginning of his letter states:
“1. The issue of homosexuality and the moral evaluation of homosexual acts have increasingly become a matter of public debate, even in Catholic circles.” 

Benedict acknowledges his fears of these public debates: 
“often advances arguments and makes assertions inconsistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church.” 

Benedict then out of exaggerated fear (PTSD?) he regressively overreacts  by asserting a self-imposed isolation of the whole church from any open debate on this issue:  
“…is quite rightly a cause for concern to all engaged in the pastoral ministry, and this Congregation has judged it to be of sufficiently grave and widespread importance to address” which for him is to globally address a letter to all the bishops of the Catholic Church."

Even though Benedict admits the complexities of homosexuality - he nonetheless gives into a unilateral reductionism, by minimizing the complexities of homosexuality to justify his arbitrary understanding of homosexuality:
 “2. Naturally, an exhaustive treatment of this complex issue cannot be attempted here…but we will focus our reflection within the distinctive context of the Catholic moral perspective. It is a perspective which finds support in the more secure findings of the natural sciences, which have their own legitimate and proper methodology and field of inquiry.” 

“…we must overcome every regressive tendency to a unilateral reductionism, to fear, and to self-imposed isolation… 
...Science can purify religion from error and superstition; 
religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish.”

 Both Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI lived through the atrocities that were committed by this blinded mass hysteria of the “Fuhrer-cult” totally built on the pseudo-science and pseudo-religion of the ideology of Nazism. The age difference between John Paul and Benedict is significant. John Paul born 1920 was 19 years old when the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939 and Benedict was born 1927 at the rise of Hitler and the Nazi regime to power and lived the first 18 years of his life in Nazi Germany till 1945 the end of WWII. In brief, adults who experienced traumatic situations as an adult are likely to remember the events and are better able to integrate the trauma "to process, integrate and categorize what" has happened and "to regulate internal states (http://www.traumacenter.org/products/pdf_files/preprint_dev_trauma_disorder.pdf)" the "sensory, emotional and cognitive information into a cohesive whole (http://www.traumacenter.org/products/pdf_files/preprint_dev_trauma_disorder.pdf)" that prevents the adult from repressing the trauma and getting stuck into unconscious repetitive patterns of "repeating trauma in action, mood, or somatic states...adults [like John Paul] can learn to protect themselves and make conscious choices about not engaging in relationships or behaviors that are harmful (http://www.cirp.org/library/psych/vanderkolk/)." This is not true for very young children who live through traumatizing situations depending they tend not to remember. As very young - Benedict lived the first 18 years of his life - through an unprecedented extraordinary violent and barbaric time never found in recorded history. However, for children like Benedict - the traumatic symptoms are more likely to be played out unconsciously later in life. "The only reason to uncover traumatic material is to gain conscious control over unbidden re-experiences or re-enactments."

A history of AIDS hysteria 1980s 
John Paul, as an adult, experienced the barbarity of Hitler and the Nazi regime at the age of 19 years old, and is able to avoid and prevent such horrific events from happening again. It seems likely that John Paul would have recognized emotionally, as in flashbacks, -  Benedict's unconscious disguised repetition of Hitler's irrational configuration of his racial policies. Because Benedict writes his most unempathetic Letter 1986 about homosexuals - during the height of the hysteria of the AIDS epidemic in the USA.  And John Paul responsibly quickly took steps to stop it. It appears that John Paul was likely cognizant of the psychological ramifications of early childhood traumatization and isolation - especially related to exposure to some aspects of the atrocities of Hitler and the Nazi regime. I could be wrong about this - but I do not think that I am. I was traumatized in 2003 in graduate school researching the psychological emotional impact of the Holocaust. This material I am posting here is really meant for experienced clinicians with an academic historical understanding of Hitler and the Nazi regime, a working knowledge of theology, including an in-depth realistic understanding of religious priestly life (free of religious biases) - to evaluate and make constructive criticism and to collaborate to advance deeper insight into this unprecedented horrific situation to help to prevent it ever happening again. 

Developmental trauma disorder:
Towards a rational diagnosis for children with complex trauma histories.

…The traumatic stress field has adopted the term “Complex Trauma” to describe the experience of multiple and/or chronic and prolonged, developmentally adverse traumatic events, most often of an interpersonal nature (e.g., sexual or physical abuse, war, community violence) and early-life onset. These exposures often occur within the child’s caregiving system and include physical, emotional, and educational neglect and child maltreatment beginning in early childhood (see Cook et al, this issue, Spinazzola et al this issue)…
         ...Isolated traumatic incidents tend to produce discrete conditioned behavioral and biological responses to reminders of the trauma, such as are captured in the PTSD diagnosis. In contrast, chronic maltreatment or inevitable repeated traumatization, such as occurs in children who are exposed to repeated medical or surgical procedures, have a pervasive effects on the development of mind and brain. Chronic trauma interferes with neurobiological development (see article by Ford, this issue) and the capacity to integrate sensory, emotional and cognitive information into a cohesive whole. Developmental trauma sets the stage for unfocused responses to subsequent stress leading to dramatic increases in the use of medical, correctional, social and mental health services. People with childhood histories of trauma, abuse and neglect make up almost our entire criminal justice population: physical abuse and neglect are associated with a very high rates of arrest for violent offenses. In one prospective study of victims of abuse and neglect, almost half were arrested for non-traffic related offenses by age 32. Seventy-five percent of perpetrators of child sexual abuse report to have themselves been sexually abused during childhood. These data suggest that most interpersonal trauma on children is perpetuated by victims who grow up to become perpetrators and/or repeat victims of violence. This tendency to repeat represents an integral aspect of the cycle of violence in our society...
John Paul seems to have quickly recognized the Nazi pseudo-science subjective formulation of the Nazi's racial policy the core basis of the ideology of Nazism though unconscious to Benedict, in Benedict’s letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church targeting homosexuals, mirroring in the same way that the Jewish people were targeted by Hitler and the Nazi regime deemed "less than human."  
“…When the Nazis described Jews as Untermenschen, or subhumans, they didn't mean it metaphorically, says Smith. "They didn't mean they were like subhumans. They meant they were literally subhuman.”

 It appears that John Paul in 1988 immediately addressed these seeds of Nazism in Benedict’s 1986 letter regarding homosexuals and states that “…we must overcome every regressive tendency to a unilateral reductionism, to fear, and to self-imposed isolation…” Four years later in 1992 John Paul admits Galileo was right and that the office of the Doctrine of the Faith then was wrong. Hitler mesmerized the German people that led many of them to blindly and emphatically to believe and to follow his every dictate regardless now irrational - never questioning the underlining plausibility of Hitler's direction that led to:
...the most lethal and destructive war in history, and of the most terrible genocide the world has ever seen. He left behind him not just physical, but also moral, ruination such as history has never previously experienced. He represented an extreme pathology of modern society. He showed us the most radical face of modern inhumanity – how an advanced society can undergo a breathtaking descent into modern barbarity that’s quite without precedent…

In 1992, the 1979 investigation commissioned by John Paul into the Galileo Affair was completed and he made his public apology to Galileo that the Vatican was wrong and Galileo was right. “The Vatican's formal acknowledgement of an error, moreover, is a rarity in an institution built over centuries on the belief that the Church is the final arbiter in matters of faith… Pope John Paul II himself has said that the scientist was ‘imprudently opposed (http://www.nytimes.com/1992/10/31/world/after-350-years-vatican-says-galileo-was-right-it-moves.html).’” John Paul by his public apology to Galileo is publicly admitting that the Vatican's Office of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith headed by Joseph Ratzinger and his curial staff members can be wrong!

Hollywood's struggle to 
deal with AIDS 
in the '80s'



















NBC's "St. Elsewhere" was one of the first prime time TV shows to feature an AIDS patient in 1983.

"An Early Frost," in 1985 with Ben Gazzara, Gena Rowlands and Aidan Quinn, is considered to be the first studio production to deal with AIDS.

I know that John Paul, around this same time the late 1980s which was during the height of the AIDS epidemic in the USA - related to Benedict's letter on homosexuality and his response 1988 and early 1990s his apology to Galileo - he had commissioned a group of theologians, psychologists other professional clinicians and members of the hierarchy to study the topic of homosexuality, seemly in direct opposition to Benedict's 1986 letter unilaterally dictating the ending of all open dissusion on the topic of homosexuality. This group continued meeting regularly and they were responsible for producing the first ever papal document focusing on children growing up to be gay "Always Our Children" released on  October 1, 1997. It is interesting to note that I "came out" seven months earlier to my parishioners at Holy Family Parish, Sparta, Michigan that same year - on March 25,1997 at the beginning of Holy Week to draw public attention to the lifelong harmful effects caused to gay children growing up in their early childhood psychological developmental years by the influence of unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms that force the suppression the gay child's sexual orientation.

 It is interesting to note that the majority of the members of the RC hierarchy are victims of this violent form of child abuse of early childhood suppression of their gay sexual orientation, including Benedict. Benedict suffers from the severest form of this form of child abuse growing up in Nazi Germany at the ages of 7, 8, 9, and 10 - during the height of the highly publicized "immorality trials" 1935-6, 1937 orchestrated by Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels exploited the German societal prejudices against homosexuals - to obscure Hitler’s real motive of revenge aimed at Pope Pius XI and Cardinal Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli (future Pope Pius XII) who co-authored “Mit brennender Sorge” that not only was meant to destroy the opposition of the Catholic outspoken anti-nazi clergy by falsely accusing them of homosexuality,  but the Catholic Church as well.

 It is this early childhood trauma that Benedict is unconsciously repeating in a disguised form to him, but seemingly clearly identifiable to John Paul. And that John Paul is counteracting by his subsequent actions taken: his letter of 1988 correcting Benedict's letter 1986, 1992 publicly apologizing to Galileo - WAS ALSO AN admission of the fallibility of the papacy, ESPECIALLY the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and by his commissioning this group of professional to study the topic of homosexuality at the beginning of the 1990s.  This commissioned group by John Paul continued until his death in 2005 when Benedict was elected to the papacy. And again it is interesting to noted that I remained untouched by the Vatican from the time that I "came out" in 1997 until six months after the death of John Paul.

During the formative years of contemporary psychiatry much attention was paid to the continuing role of past traumatic experiences on the current lives of people. Charcot, Janet, and Freud all noted that fragmented memories of traumatic events dominated the mental life of many of their patient…Janet thought that traumatic memories of traumatic events persist as unassimilated fixed ideas that act as foci for the development of alternate states of consciousness, including dissociative phenomena, such as fugue states, amnesias, and chronic states of helplessness and depression. Unbidden memories of the trauma may return as physical sensations, horrific images or nightmares, behavioral reenactments, or a combination of these. Janet showed how traumatized individuals become fixated on the trauma: difficulties in assimilating subsequent experiences as well. It is "as if their personality development has stopped at a certain point and cannot expand anymore by the addition or assimilation of new elements.” …The trauma permanently disturbed the capacity to deal with other challenges, and the victim who did not integrate the trauma was doomed to "repeat the repressed material as a contemporary experience in instead or . . . remembering it as something belonging to the past.” In this article, I will show how the trauma is repeated on behavioral, emotional, physiologic, and neuroendocrinologic levels, whose confluence explains the diversity of repetition phenomena. 
Many traumatized people expose themselves, seemingly compulsively, to situations reminiscent of the original trauma. These behavioral reenactments are rarely consciously understood to be related to earlier life experiences…
Trauma can be repeated on behavioral, emotional, physiologic, and neuroendocriniologic levels. Repetition on these different levels causes a large variety of individual and social suffering. Anger directed against the self or others is always a central problem in the lives of people who have been violated and this is itself a repetitive re-enactment of real events from the past…
People who have been exposed to highly stressful stimuli develop long-term potentiation of memory tracts that are reactivated at times of subsequent arousal. This activation explains how current stress is experienced as a return of the trauma; it causes a return to earlier behavior patterns. Ordinarily, people will choose the most pleasant of two alternatives. High arousal causes people to engage in familiar behavior, regardless of the rewards. As novel stimuli are anxiety provoking, under stress, previously traumatized people tend return to familiar patterns, even if they cause pain…
Childhood abuse and neglect enhance long-term hyperarousal and decreased modulation of strong affect states…Victimized people may neutralize their hyperarousal by a variety of addictive behaviors, including compulsive re-exposure to victimization of self and others. Gaining control over one's current life, rather than repeating trauma in action, mood, or somatic states, is the goal of treatment. The only reason to uncover traumatic material is to gain conscious control over unbidden re-experiences or re- enactments. The presence of strong attachments provides people with the security necessary to explore their life experiences and to interrupt the inner or social isolation that keeps them stuck in repetitive patterns. Introduction
War is a complex, long-lasting trauma composed of multiple stressors such as physical harm, intimidation, loss of loved ones, deprivation, abuse and starvation (Berman, 2001). Children represent a highly vulnerable population, whose rights and needs are usually subordinated to the burden of war (Barenbaum et al., 2004)…
…Differences in the prevalence of long-lasting post-traumatic symptoms after war may be explained by a number of factors, including initial severity, psychosocial milieu after trauma, and continuing disruption, for example as a result of displacement (Barenbaum et al., 2004). The impact of a childhood in war on post-traumatic symptoms in later life is rarely examined. Teegen and Meister (2000) found 5% PTSD and 25% partial PTSD among former German adolescent refugees of World War II. Yet most of the former children of World War II have managed their lives successfully: they have rebuilt destroyed cities, made their careers and had families. They can be seen as the “generation of normality” (Ermann, 2003). However, the complex challenges associated with reaching retirement see many former war children confronting the issues of their childhood (Radebold, 2003). The goal of our study was to determine the level of post-traumatic stress symptoms and current psychopathology in a sample of former German children 60 years after the end of World War II…
Discussion
…The late life effect of war trauma on small children needs further investigation with more appropriate instruments. Qualitative study designs, for example, could assess more subtle changes brought about by a war childhood (Ermann, 2004; 2005). Finally, the long-lasting wounds of World War II are a strong argument for preventing their repetition in current conflicts: countries should take all measures to ensure protection and care of children who are affected by war (UNHCHR, 1990). Read research:

What German children played with in World War Two - the Nazi party sticker books - 21 January 2008
During the austere 1930s, British children enjoyed the simple pleasure of collecting tea and cigarette cards of their sporting heroes.
But over in Germany, their counterparts were carefully gluing pictures of figures infinitely less innocent than the likes of the young Stanley Matthews into their prized albums.
One collection focused on Adolf Hitler, with its 204 cards chronicling the evil dictator's rise to power and pictures of the Führer in uniform with his Nazi henchmen, including his then deputy Rudolf Hess and Joseph Goebbels…
They give a chilling insight into the Nazi propaganda machine and conjure up a disturbing image of youngsters having fun swapping cards of the Nazi monsters and deriving entertainment from getting the latest card of Hitler to add to their collection - while all the time being unwittingly brainwashed by the fascist regime.
Yesterday historical documents expert Richard Westwood-Brookes of auctioneers Mullocks, said: "Children collected these cards and no doubt looked forward to the day when they would have a completed book to show to their friends and families.
"But meanwhile the Nazis storm troopers were going about their business, beating people up, crushing the freedoms of the people and planning the rounding up Jews for extermination as Hitler and his gang plotted world domination.

A Box of WWII Souvenirs Yields a Trove of Nazi Creation Myths

…The purpose of Nazi-era cigarette books was, in short, blatantly propagandist. In the 1930s, after the rise of the Nazi Party, the National Socialist German Worker’s Party (NSDAP) collaborated with the German Cigarette Picture Service to deploy a series of photographs that would illustrate a carefully edited history of the party. The booklet itself contained text, and blank spaces to be filled in later with corresponding pictures. Smokers would find coupons in their cigarette packages, which they could then mail to the company. In return, each customer would receive a group of photographs to be mounted in the book. The end result: a picture-book that any patriotic, i.e., Nazi-affiliated, family could be proud of, chronicling the party’s ascendance under Hitler's leadership…
…“Mass consumption and mass marketing had already come to Germany in the 1920s, and there was an appeal to a ‘collectors' instinct’,” says Professor Volker Berghahn, Seth Low Emeritus Professor of History at Columbia University. “It was part of an attempt to draw a consumer into whatever things you were already producing, and that’s why the cigarette company was involved. And the Nazis had their own interest in getting people to learn their story. I'm sure many Hitler Youth were among the collectors, and were keen to fill their own albums." 
Most of the photographs in the series were made by Heinrich Hoffmann, the official photographer of the NSDAP, and for years the only person authorized to take pictures of Hitler. Hoffmann's photos depict the Führer as heroic patriot; powerful leader; friend to men, women, children and animals. German War Children Begin Facing Suppressed Traumas - February 4, 2008
One quarter of Germans were children during World War II. During the 1950s, researchers were still convinced that the generation had overcome the war traumas. That's not the case, according to recent studies.
When Hildgeard Jost-Berns hears a siren, she regularly winces. While still working as a teacher, the 69-year-old had to disrupt her lessons when a practice alarm went off outside. As a five-year-old, Jost-Berns saw how her parents' apartment in the western German town of Essen went up in flames after an air raid. She was too young to understand why this was happening. She was also too old to ever forget it. Years later, the flames still haunted her in her dreams.
The loss of home and security always goes along with the loss of childhood. That's also what happened to Beatrix Wagner, who witnessed the attack on Dresden in 1945. She can remember the crackling of the bombs and the scary helplessness of her mother.
"It was something completely unexpected and a horrible feeling," Wagner said.
Left alone with traumatic experiences
No one was interested in the hurt feelings of a seven-year-old girl during the chaotic times of war. Bare survival was all that counted. Even after the war, Wagner didn't get a chance to deal with her experiences. Psychologists taking care of traumatized children didn't exist. …I was born 1932 in Schleswig, North Germany and enjoyed a happy childhood in a close-knit family.My baby sister came 1936 on the scene and our brother 1938, about the time when Adolf Hitler was talked about a lot. I remember the the brown uniform ny father had acquired,due to joining the SA (Sturmabteilung).All his colleagues from the Psychiatric Hospital,which was the biggest in Germany and where they all worked as qualified nurses,had joined also.I did not know what was going on, only everybody seemed in good spirits. I suppose thinking back, their future was full of promises-a better life to come. Hitler was Germany's saviour!
In 1939 we, all women and children, waved the long train off, loaded with men who had volunteered to be recruited. Of course, my age group had no idea what was happening. At school, Adolf Hitler's portrait was in every classroom, "Heil Hitler" before we started lessons and the same at the end.Hitler was praised and we fell in love with him, we adored him and showed him great respect. Were we being brainwashed? Every boy and girl old enough automatically became a member of the 'Hitler Jugend' (Youth). We were never bored, due to so many activities! Mainly sport was encouraged and became an obsession. Music too. Religion was not mentioned.I think,'Adolf was God.'
It was an honour to be included in the big parade at Hitler's birthday on the 20th April.What a pretty sight on the stadium!Swastika flags blowing in the wind, girls in navy blue pleated skirts,white socks and short sleeved blouses,long plaits. The boys looked proud too, in their light brown shirts with white neckchief.March music over loud speakers. Dad's letters arrived from Austria, Holland, France ,Poland, after that nothing.Apparently he was "missing." Much, much later I found out that he had been captured with so many others by the Russians and was transported to Siberia to work in the salt mines.One night in 1942 a continuous rumbling noise was heard and prevented us children from going to sleep. Children who did not meet the social or biological criteria of " perfect" children were removed from their homes and communities, isolated in institutions, hospitals, work and concentration camps, and many thousands were murdered (Aly, 1993; Burleigh, 1994; Friedlander, 1994; Peukert, 1987). It is a myth that only children with severe disabilities were killed or that the killings stopped in 1941; the last child was killed almost a month after the war was over. The campaign to remove unwanted children from the community was not only the result of Nazi racial biology and eugenics, it was part and parcel of the effort to impose control and conformity on the entire German population. In the jargon of contemporary homosexual culture, those who hide their sexual identities are referred to as either closeted or said to be in the closet. Revealing one's homosexuality is referred to as coming out. Clinical experience with gay patients reveals hiding and revealing behaviors to be psychologically complex.

Homosexual Identities

In the developmental histories of gay men and women, periods of difficulty in acknowledging their homosexuality, either to themselves or to others, are often reported. Children who grow up to be gay rarely receive family support in dealing with antihomosexual prejudices. On the contrary, beginning in childhood--and distinguishing them from racial and ethnic minorities--gay people are often subjected to the antihomosexual attitudes of their own families and communities (Drescher et al., 2004). Antihomosexual attitudes include homophobia (Weinberg, 1972), heterosexism (Herek, 1984), moral condemnations of homosexuality (Drescher, 1998) and antigay violence (Herek and Berrill, 1992). Hiding activities learned in childhood often persist into young adulthood, middle age and even senescence, leading many gay people to conceal important aspects of themselves.
Closeted individuals frequently cannot acknowledge to themselves, let alone to others, their homoerotic feelings, attractions and fantasies. Their homosexuality is so unacceptable that it must be kept out of conscious awareness and cannot be integrated into their public persona. Consequently, these feelings must be dissociated from the self and hidden from others.
If and when same-sex feelings and attractions can no longer be kept out of consciousness, the individual becomes homosexually self-aware. Individuals to whom this happens can acknowledge some aspect of their homosexuality to themselves. While homosexually self-aware people might consider accepting and integrating these feelings into their public persona, acceptance is not a pre-determined outcome. For example, a religious, homosexually self-aware man may choose a celibate life to avoid what, for him, would be the problematic integration of his religious and sexual identities…

…“Coming out is no longer a matter of popular debate, but a matter of public health,” claim scientists from Louis H. Lafontaine Hospital in Montreal. But for some who spent most of their lives in the closet, it might be just impossible. Whether it is the fear of being rejected by their now grown children, being criminalized by the homophobic society, ostracized by their own community, or the strong belief they would be unable to rebuild their lives with their new identity, these men and women are too broken to start anew.

Here are the main ailments that are likely to develop if you are forced to keep your sexual identity a secret from society and often from yourself:

Dissociative Identity Disorder. Notable psychiatrists Sullivan and Roughton have discovered that closeted individuals routinely separate their attractions and feelings for the persons of the same sex from their identity. That means these men and women find their desires so unacceptable that they keep them out of their conscious awareness, separating their sexual identity from the rest of their persona. Blocking the anxiety-provoking thoughts about their sexuality forces them to lead a double life and are very often unaware of it.
Chronic Depression. Increased fear and withdrawal from friends and relatives and the chronic stress of hiding one’s sexuality can lead to excess amounts of cortisol in the body, which contributes to severe depression as well as the general “wear and tear” of the body. Scientists at the Centre for Studies on Human Stress at Louis H. Lafontaine Hospital in Montreal found that staying in the closet weakens your whole immune system, in addition to leading to chronic depression.
Self-disgust and Self-hatred. Socialized into thinking that being non-heterosexual is somehow “mad,” “bad,” “wrong,” or “immoral,” many closeted gay and lesbian individuals develop internalized homophobia. They find that they do not belong and do not fit in either the “straight world” or the “gay world.” This painful feeling often leads to self-disgust, self-hatred, and contempt for the more open LGBT members. Low Self-esteem and Negative Self-view. Both can lead to avoiding fulfilling relationships with others. Spending the majority of their lives attempting to pass as heterosexuals to gain social approval, many closeted individuals develop low self-esteem and negative body image, which brings with them such issues as fear of intimacy, deep shame about their sexual experiences, and inability to develop emotional intimacy, psychologists claim.
Alcohol/Drug Abuse and Suicidal Thoughts. Growing increasingly withdrawn and depressed, closeted individuals often follow unsafe sexual practices and engage in other destructive, risk-taking behaviors. Being ostracized by the community, fearing shame and physical torture and imprisonment, creating heterosexual families, and dissociating themselves from the gay population altogether leads many to a life of substance abuse and addictions. Constantly haunted by suicidal thoughts, many consider ending their lives…

A new study by a team of researchers from the University of Montreal seems to scientifically support what many have long suspected: For lesbian, gay and bisexual individuals, coming out provides a tangible benefit in terms of both biological and mental health.
The findings, published today in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine (the paper is not yet linked online), are the result of a study originally intended to see if, overall, lesbian, gay and bisexual individuals had higher levels of cortisol—a hormone whose presence in the body reflects chronic stress—as well as a greater chance of self-reported negative psychiatric symptomssuch as anxiety and depression. The researchers’ original hypothesis was that people in this group would be more likely to suffer from these symptoms.
Their main findings were something of a surprise—among their sample of 87 participants, gay and bisexual men actually had a slightly lesser chance of depression and anxiety, along with lower stress levels (as indicated by cortisol and 20 other biomarkers) than heterosexual men.
Perhaps most significant, though, was the secondary finding that they hadn’t even been searching for: In their study, lesbian, gay and bisexual individuals all tended to have lower stress levels and a smaller chance of depressive symptoms if they’d come out to friends and family than those who’d kept their sexual orientation a secret. “Coming out,” the authors write, “may no longer be a matter of popular debate, but of public health.”…

RESULTS: Lesbians, gays, and bisexuals who were out and open about their sexuality had fewer signs of anxiety, depression, and burnout (i.e. emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and feelings of personal accomplishment), and lower cortisol levels, than those who were still closeted to friends and family.
LGB adults who were out were just as happy, healthy, and satisfied with their jobs as their straight counterparts. Out gay and bisexual men actually had lower rates of depression, and were more physically fit, than straight men…

    1. The disease of thinking we are “immortal”, “immune” or downright “indispensable”, neglecting the need for regular check-ups. A Curia which is not self-critical, which does not keep up with things, which does not seek to be more fit, is a sick body… 
    2. Another disease is the “Martha complex”, excessive busy-ness. It is found in those who immerse themselves in work and inevitably neglect “the better part”: sitting at the feet of Jesus (cf. Lk 10:38-42)… 
    3. Then too there is the disease of mental and spiritual “petrification”. It is found in those who have a heart of stone, the “stiff-necked” (Acts 7:51-60), in those who in the course of time lose their interior serenity, alertness and daring, and hide under a pile of papers, turning into paper pushers and not men of God (cf. Heb 3:12). It is dangerous to lose the human sensitivity that enables us to weep with those who weep and to rejoice with those who rejoice!… 
    4. The disease of excessive planning and of functionalism. When the apostle plans everything down to the last detail and believes that with perfect planning things will fall into place, he becomes an accountant or an office manager. Things need to be prepared well, but without ever falling into the temptation of trying to contain and direct the freedom of the Holy Spirit, which is always greater and more flexible than any human planning (cf. Jn 3:8)… 
    5. The disease of poor coordination. Once its members lose communion among themselves, the body loses its harmonious functioning and its 
equilibrium; it then becomes an orchestra which produces noise: its members do not work together and lose the spirit of fellowship and teamwork… 
    6. There is also a “spiritual Alzheimer’s disease”…It involves a progressive decline in the spiritual faculties which in the long or short run greatly handicaps a person by making him incapable of doing anything on his own, living in a state of absolute dependence on his often imaginary perceptions… 
    7. The disease of rivalry and vainglory.[11] When appearances, the colour of our clothes and our titles of honour become the primary object in life, we forget the words of Saint Paul: “Do nothing from selfishness or conceit but in humility count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Phil 2:3-4)… 
    8. The disease of existential schizophrenia. This is the disease of those who live a double life, the fruit of that hypocrisy typical of the mediocre and of a progressive spiritual emptiness which no doctorates or academic titles can fill. It is a disease which often strikes those who abandon pastoral service and restrict themselves to bureaucratic matters, thus losing contact with reality, with concrete people… 
    9. The disease of gossiping, grumbling and back-biting. I have already spoken many times about this disease, but never enough. It is a grave illness which begins simply, perhaps even in small talk, and takes over a person, making him become a “sower of weeds” (like Satan) and in many cases, a cold-blooded killer of the good name of our colleagues and confrères. It is the disease of cowardly persons who lack the courage to speak out directly, but instead speak behind other people’s backs… 
    10. The disease of idolizing superiors. This is the disease of those who court their superiors in the hope of gaining their favour. They are victims of careerism and opportunism; they honour persons and not God (cf. Mt 23:8-    12). They serve thinking only of what they can get and not of what they should give. Small-minded persons, unhappy and inspired only by their own lethal selfishness (cf. Gal 5:16-25). Superiors themselves could be affected by this disease, when they court their collaborators in order to obtain their submission, loyalty and psychological dependency, but the end result is a real complicity…
    11. The disease of indifference to others. This is where each individual thinks only of himself and loses sincerity and warmth of human relationships. When the most knowledgeable person does not put that knowledge at the service of his less knowledgeable colleagues. When we learn something and then keep it to ourselves rather than sharing it in a helpful way with others. When out of jealousy or deceit we take joy in seeing others fall instead of helping them up and encouraging them… 
    12. The disease of a lugubrious face. Those glum and dour persons who think that to be serious we have to put on a face of melancholy and severity, and treat others – especially those we consider our inferiors – with rigour, brusqueness and arrogance (having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities)… 
    13. The disease of hoarding. When an apostle tries to fill an existential void in his heart by accumulating material goods, not out of need but only in order to feel secure…
    14. The disease of closed circles, where belonging to a clique becomes more powerful than belonging to the Body and, in some circumstances, to Christ himself…
    15. Lastly: the disease of worldly profit, of forms of self-exhibition. When an apostle turns his service into power, and his power into a commodity in order to gain worldly profit or even greater power. This is the disease of persons who insatiably try to accumulate power and to this end are ready to slander, defame and discredit others, even in newspapers and magazines…

Evelyn Hooker's pioneering research debunked the popular myth that homosexuals are inherently less mentally healthy than heterosexuals, leading to significant changes in how psychology views and treats people who are gay...
Hooker's work was the first to empirically test the assumption that gay men were mentally unhealthy and maladjusted. The fact that no differences were found between gay and straight participants sparked more research in this area and began to dismantle the myth that homosexual men and women are inherently unhealthy.
In conjunction with other empirical results, this work led the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from the DSM in 1973 (it had been listed as a sociopathic personality disorder). In 1975, the American Psychological Association publicly supported this move, stating that "homosexuality per se implies no impairment in judgment, reliability or general social and vocational capabilities…(and mental health professionals should) take the lead in removing the stigma of mental illness long associated with homosexual orientation." Dear Bishop David, 

I received your letter dated October 2015, that included a request to set an appointment to dialogue with you. At the time, my commitments,obligations and lack of financial means did not permit me to follow through. Furthermore, the around trip from Canton, MI to Grand Rapids, MI would have been about eight hours. However, after seeking reliable spiritual direction I was advised to write a letter to accept your request to meet. In the process of writing this letter, I began to thoroughly research the situation, from the combined insight obtained from three professionals perspectives, as a priest, as a psychologist, and as a historian. Through these perspectives, I have analyzed the many ways in which I was a victim of antigay hierarchal violence, having no judicial oversight to appeal to for protection within the church or civilly. This is an unidentified form of structural violence directed not at me alone but also many priests, theologians, sisters, religious and others, including Pope Francis for the past four decades - all have been victims of this form of violence.

…Direct violence is horrific, but its brutality usually gets our attention: we notice it, and often respond to it. Structural violence, however, is almost always invisible, embedded in ubiquitous social structures, normalized by stable institutions and regular experience. Structural violence occurs whenever people are disadvantaged by political, legal, economic, or cultural traditions. Because they are longstanding, structural inequities usually seem ordinary—the way things are and always have been. But structural violence produces suffering and death as often as direct violence does, though the damage is slower, more subtle, more common, and more difficult to repair. The chapters in this section teach us about some important but invisible forms of structural violence, and alert us to the powerful cultural mechanisms that create and maintain them over generations…
One outcome of exclusionary thinking is the belief that victims of violence must in some way deserve their plight. But certainly it is easy to see that young children do not deserve to be victims…

The main purpose of this form of structural violence is to silence and remove anyone in the Church who openly discusses the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality - gay people. This antigay hierarchical, structural violence has been successful in firmly suppressing this science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. In 1957, world renowned psychologist, Dr. Evelyn Hooker conducted ground breaking research proving that homosexuality is not a mental illness. She proved that being homosexual was just as normal as being heterosexual. For years the hierarchical church has rebuked such scientifically sound findings and have championed the obsessive suppression of gay people. Such actions lead to question who benefits from falsifying truth? The hierarchical church did not suppress the scientific research on heart surgery or cancer for the past 60 years. This vicious form of gay suppression is entrenched in the corruption of the curia in which speaking the truth has become a reprehensible thing. Through my years of analysis, I have come to find that the greatest harm this suppression imposes is on our children.

Truly I tell you, unless you

My “coming out” in March 1997 was all based on substantiated science and scripture. Furthermore, it was motivated to protect defenseless children. How did risking my life by coming out warrant such extreme vindictive retaliation for the past 20 years by members of the curia and hierarchy? 

How did it get twisted around that I refused to return to the Grand Rapids Dioceses, when in fact, it was made clear to me that it was unsafe for me to return by their coercing me to acquiesce to being sent away to be re-educated on the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. They wanted me to leave the priesthood on my own, which would be another grave sin to commit. Since I had no recourse to appeal to for justice in 1997 - what recourse would I have available to me if I returned and more severe immoral tactics were used against me?

This tactic of the curia to dispose of someone was most recently demonstrated by Cardinal Raymond Burke firing Boeselager the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. Burke falsified a papal decision of Pope Francis that no one was to be fired, that the problematic issues with the Knights of Malta should be resolved through dialogue. Burke without any true dialogue with Boeselager stated that it was Pope Francis’s wish that he resign as the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. When Boeselager refused to resign because of “unreasonable circumstances,” Burke fired him on the grounds of disobedience. Sound familiar?  Boeselager, then appealed directly to Pope Francis and an investigation was ordered into the firing of Boeselager. It was later exposed that the grounds that Burke had used against Boeselager were over “condoms.” However, this information was contrived by a group of Burke’s supporters known as “Lepanto Institute for the Restoration of All Things in Christ.” This group is described as a “militant traditionalist organization close to Burke (Austen Ivereigh).” “This ultraconservative organization specialized in the denunciation of "gays” entering the Church and in attacks on the major development associations that question unfettered economic liberalism (La Croix International).” On February 4, 2017, Pope Francis replaced Cardinal Burke as the Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and overnight all over Rome appeared posters of Pope Francis with a sad expression with the words - “Where is your mercy?”

It was the truth from science and religion that morally obligated me to come out for the protection of children growing up gay in March 1997. This was an act of love and my duty as a priest. It is the true meaning of being a priest. Pope Francis  on Thursday, June 22, 2017  in his homily during Mass at Casa Santa Marta confirmed this fact stating,"The Good Shepherd gives his life for his sheep,” using as an example the parish priest of Barbiana, Fr. Don Milani, the from the Diocese of Firenze (Florence). 

The research to find the answers to these questions endlessly kept unfolding more and more information that led back in time - more than a century and a half. The research doors were opened wide once Pope Francis was elected and he along with his team of experts, and cardinals began reforming the curia. The research revealed two main historical events that were dependent on exploiting societal prejudices against gay people to rise and to stay in power. The, first, began with the ideology of Nazism promoted by Hitler and the Nazi regime that led to the deaths of 70 million people unprecedented in human history. The, second, began the with ideology of the “trickle-down theory” known as Reaganomics that led to Globalization and the greatest inequality in human history - “A world where 1% of humanity controls as much wealth as the bottom 99% will never be stable (President Obama’s departing speech to the UN General Assembly September 2016).‟ Ian Kershaw explains what Hitler’s place in history will be:

…Primarily, as the inspiration of the most lethal and destructive war in history, and of the most terrible genocidethe world has ever seen. He left behind him not just physical, but also moral, ruination such as history has never previously experienced. He represented an extreme pathology of modern society. He showed us the most radical face of modern inhumanity – how an advanced society can undergo a breathtaking descent into modern barbarity that’s quite without precedent. That’s what, with the passage of time, we can see was historically defining about Hitler. Never before Hitler’s time had we seen so clearly what human beings are capable of…
…we shouldn’t mystify Hitler’s personality. The uniquenessof Nazism can’t be reduced to that strange personality. Another time, another place, and Hitler would have had no impact at all. He couldn’t have derailed a modern society without that society itself making a major contribution to its own fate… We shouldn’t be complacent about the future. New forms of fascism and racial intolerance rightly appal and worry us…
…what we can do is to remind ourselves of the essential point about Hitler: he represented the most fundamental and frontal assault ever launched on all that we associate with humanity and civilisation.

Over the past year and a half - I have been researching and writing 24/7, since I received your letter - gathering significant amounts of factual data on all three levels (as a priest, psychologist and historian). This research includes my personal experience of being a victim of the hierarchical, antigay violence. As it happens when I do research, such as it did when I was doing the qualitative research on the Holocaust in graduate school for psychology, it is only after thoroughly exhausting every possible avenue several times do all the pieces begin to fall into place like  a jigsaw puzzle that a picture is formed. 

The picture centers on the crucial importance for the safety and well-being of all of humanity present and on into the future and is dependent on maintaining an ongoing dialogue between science and religion. This is necessary to obtain truth that which then gives meaning and value to love. Without this truth formed through this process - 

…Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. It falls prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted,to the point where it comes to mean the opposite…

Pope Benedict XVI goes on to make the warning that “Any breachin this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human development…” St. Pope John Paul II made an early statement to this effect explaining how science and religion cannot be separated. He explains - as Benedict does that science is the study of all of God’s creation and religion is formed from the bible, which is the inspired word of God. They both explain how the dialogue between science and religion becomes a self-correcting mechanism of oversight, preventing abuse and maintaining integrity of both science and religion - thus allowing science and religion to guide us on our journey into the future. Both John Paul II and Benedict XVI are writing from their experience having lived through the atrocities of Hitler and the Nazi regime (1933-1945) that resulted from their manipulation and abuse of science and religion to invent a pseudo-science to legitimize Hitler’s ideology of Nazism and pseudo-religious terms to promote it. They experienced living in a social environment saturated in the racial ideology of Nazism - where the meaning of love was so twisted around that in actuality love meant the opposite. Love meant exterminating people considered to be less than human or subhuman - “Life Unworthy Of Life.” 

With the recent election of President Trump we are experiencing living in a similar social environment saturated with the ideology of the “trickle-down theory.” This led to Globalization that was also legitimized by the manipulation of science and religion that twisted the meaning of love around to mean the exact opposite. In addition to Mr. Trump’s behavior, the Republican Convention 2016 slogans, “Lock her up!” (that sounded like the palpable hysteria of the Nazi Party “Sieg Heil” chant at a Cathedral lit Nuremberg Rally of the 1930s) and his being elected US president are all blatant examples of love twisted to mean the opposite. Both the rise of Nazism and Globalization were depended on the exploitation of societal prejudices against gay people. 

However, in regards to rise of the  “trickle-down theory”of the 1980s that led to Globalization - the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are responsible for the exploitation of societal prejudices against gay people. The research of Dr. Evelyn Hooker and subsequent research completely dispel prejudices against gay people. Instead of the curia and hierarchy acknowledging the truth of this science - they manipulated religion by misusing the bible and continued to wrongly condemn homosexuality. Thus they twisted the meaning of truth around to the point that it continues to mean the opposite. They and their supporters are not about truth and therefore not about love. They are no different than the palpable hysteria of the Nazi Party “Sieg Heil” members at the Nuremberg Rallies of the 1930s. And this is the violence, their twisted meaning of truth - the complete absence of love, they have used against me and against so many others before and after me. Some of our best and brightest theologians and bridge makers, such as, Sister Jeannine Gramick and Fr. Robert Nugent. Gramick and Nugent have been responsible since 1977 for saving millions of people’s lives, especially very young children. To the best of my knowledge, they were the first to begin an ongoing dialogue on the science of the sexual orientation of homosexuality - gay people and religion - scripture and theology.   

S c i e n c e   can purify religion from error and superstition; 
R e l i g i o n   can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. 
Each can draw the other into a wider world, 
a world in which both can flourish. 
For the truth of the matter is that the Church and the scientific 
community will inevitably interact; their options 
do not include isolation.

I came out in March 1997: for the protection of children, as young as 4 and 5 years of age, who are growing up gay. Since then it has become a moral obligation to educate and prevent forced parental suppression and unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms.What has bothered me ever since was the fact that I found it difficult to find the  r o o t   c a u s e  in understanding “how” and “why” and “when” did the meaning of “love” and “truth” get so monumentally - twisted around; notably among the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy to mean the exact opposite.

For the past 10 years I have been writing in an effort to explain how this mindless inquisition that started almost immediately after coming out in June 1997 - of being coerced “behind closed doors” by a directive from the curia conveyed by the bishop for me to acquiesce to being sent away “somewhere” to be re-educated on the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. This directive was not only shocking, but traumatizing as well. 

This irrational directive from the curia completely negated the immediate need of protecting the lives of millions of very young defenseless children from lifelong debilitating harmful effects. It also negated the wealth of the authoritative substantiated research gathered from the major medical and mental health associations, institutions, and organizations, including universities. This was the reason for my “coming out.” 

Through knowledge acquired during my studies at the University of Michigan and attending the American Psychological Association National Conventions my research was reinforced on the science of sexual orientation. The action of the curia and hierarchy was a blatant affront, a direct attack on truth and love, as taught and embodied in Jesus Christ, of which the entire purpose and meaning of priesthood is based on. It was like a supervisor telling a heart surgeon that he is going to be be sent away on a sabbatical to be reeducated on the ancient system of medicine known as “bloodletting.” I cannot explain how twisted it sounded - to be told such absurdity!!! “Who in the hell is running this ship?!?” I was 47 years old at the time.

How did the curia and hierarchy cause a breach in the dialogue between science and religion that ended up twisting the meaning of love around to mean the opposite?

We will learn from studying the - science on sexual orientation that it is composed of interrelated biological and psychological processes that are not able to be consciously controlled or suppressed. These interrelated processes function outside our conscious awareness - automatically and continuously throughout life as part of the autonomic nervous system - like the heart beating and breathing. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation - is essential in meeting our most basic human need for love, attachment, intimacy, through which empathy is developed. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation is as vital to human survival from the beginning of life to the end - as the heart beating and breathing. Any attempt to force the suppression of a child’s gay sexual orientation is the same as suppressing the heart and breathing rate which can cause a number of lifelong adverse effects (persistent form of depression (dysthymia), suicidal ideation, and obsessive dislike for gay people that is implicit, to explicit verbal expressions of hate, to lethal forms of violence, and torture).

The majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are European. They are the ones who grew up in the toxic antigay social environments left behind by Hitler’s Nazi regime. This begins to explain the long history of the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy’s collective obsessive antigay crusade. This collective thought suppressed all emerging science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. For these members of the curia and hierarchy the thought of gay science has been a long closed door slammed shut in their early childhood years. This was out of great fear from their witnessing the terror in the adult’s warnings of how Hitler treated priests who were found out to be homosexuals. As this trauma of the early childhood events are not remembered, only the emotional terror of the event remains. It is this emotional terror that is wronglymistaken as an innate guiding voice of their conscience strongly conveying to them that homosexuality is evil. This misunderstanding then becomes a force that completely obliterates years of scientific research on homosexuality. It is more likely that such scientific research ignites seemingly unending waves of unexplainable terror. That door slammed tightly shut - is the breach in the dialogue between science and religion on the issue of homosexuality. This is a childhood defense mechanism. It is the only means available to the child to stop the unending waves of fear. However, as adults, these childhood defenses must be reexamined in a safe environment - to be challenged in the adult dialogue between science and religion on issues of homosexuality. As Pope Benedict XVI explains, this is the only process to find truth and give real value and meaning to the understanding of love. I do not presume this to be an easy task to unravel and should only be attempted in a safe environment. However, this situation - is not unusual - it brings to mind the words of St. Paul to be understood with great care and empathy.

No, no, no this type of breach in the dialogue between science and religion on gay sexual orientation has to stop! Justice demands that I be exonerated and proper restitution be made for all harm endured, including the lost salary for the past 20 years to be made quickly. Not to follow through on this road of true justice is to continue this breach in the dialogue between science and religion on gay sexual orientation. Am I, like so many others, going to be made an example of what happens when a priest speaks aloud the truth? Will this be a situation reminiscent of Hitler’s regime to remove and silence Anti-Nazi priests? Are you going demonstrate publicly how an advanced society of people made a major contribution to the modern barbarity of Hitler and the Nazi regime by their complicity and indifference?

 My moral obligation as a priest is to protect people, especially children.

I look forward to setting a time to dialogue the reality of this situation in the light of the warnings of both St. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI while maintaining an open discussion between science and religion for the search of truth that leads to love.

Evelyn Hooker's pioneering research debunked the popular myth that homosexuals are inherently less mentally healthy than heterosexuals, leading to significant changes in how psychology views and treats people who are gay...
Hooker's work was the first to empirically test the assumption that gay men were mentally unhealthy and maladjusted. The fact that no differences were found between gay and straight participants sparked more research in this area and began to dismantle the myth that homosexual men and women are inherently unhealthy.
In conjunction with other empirical results, this work led the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from the DSM in 1973 (it had been listed as a sociopathic personality disorder). In 1975, the American Psychological Association publicly supported this move, stating that "homosexuality per se implies no impairment in judgment, reliability or general social and vocational capabilities…(and mental health professionals should) take the lead in removing the stigma of mental illness long associated with homosexual orientation."   In the jargon of contemporary homosexual culture, those who hide their sexual identities are referred to as either closeted or said to be in the closet. Revealing one's homosexuality is referred to as coming out. Clinical experience with gay patients reveals hiding and revealing behaviors to be psychologically complex.


Homosexual Identities
In the developmental histories of gay men and women, periods of difficulty in acknowledging their homosexuality, either to themselves or to others, are often reported. Children who grow up to be gay rarely receive family support in dealing with anti-homosexual prejudices. On the contrary, beginning in childhood--and distinguishing them from racial and ethnic minorities--gay people are often subjected to the antihomosexual attitudes of their own families and communities (Drescher et al., 2004). Antihomosexual attitudes include homophobia (Weinberg, 1972), heterosexism (Herek, 1984), moral condemnations of homosexuality (Drescher, 1998) and antigay violence (Herek and Berrill, 1992). Hiding activities learned in childhood often persist into young adulthood, middle age and even senescence, leading many gay people to conceal important aspects of themselves… 

DISSOCIATION


What psychological mechanisms facilitate separating one's sexual identity from the rest of one's persona? Sullivan's (1956) concept of dissociation may be illuminating, particularly its most common aspect: selective inattention. A ubiquitous, nonpathological process, selective inattention makes life more manageable, like tuning out the background noise on a busy street. However, through dissociation of
 anxiety-provoking knowledge about the self, a whole double life can be lived and yet, in some ways, not be known. Clinical presentations of closeted gay people may lie somewhere in severity between selective inattention--most commonly seen in the case of homosexually self-aware patients thinking about "the possibility" that they might be gay--to more severe dissociation--in which any hint of same-sex feelings resides totally out of conscious awareness. Puerto Rico Republican …Sen. Roberto Arango has previously voted in favor of Resolution 99, a proposal that would block any attempt to permit  same-sex marriages in Puerto Rico. He has also opposed adoption rights for gay people. The AP reports that local news media published photos from the application showing, “a man’s nude upper body with a cell phone obscuring his face,” and another showing “a rear view of a nude man on his hands and knees… 

A child’s sexual orientation is not about sexual behavior - it is about love, wanting to feel one with another. Depending on the severity of this rejection of a child’s expression of love - the child wants to desperately please his parents and will learn to hid from his parent such emotions of love that are disturbing to them. He will even hide them from himself and thus begins the mental dissociation of this child - attempting to suppress the never ending - regular functioning of his sexual orientation of the emotional impulses - to be loved and to love and to feel one with another.

Sexual orientation 
- refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions to men, women or both sexes...

Autonomic nervous system

However, a person’s sexual orientation like the heart beating, breathing, sexual arousal, etc., are all under the control autonomic nervous system that operates automatically and unconsciously - they cannot be suppressed.

AUSCHWITZ - CHRISTMAS 2008 - A flashback far more severe than in
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

Dear Fr. Geoff Farrow,

I have been so saddened by Pope Benedict XVI's cruel words to LGBTQ people around the world, to their parents, families and friends, most ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN. After reading the accounts of this human travesty, I did not know where to find comfort or hope. And then I thought about your blog. And just like receiving a wonderful Christmas present, sure enough I found the hope and comfort I needed to hear. Photo 

I am a priest and a clinical psychologist (MS). And for one of my research projects I chose to do a qualitative research project of the recorded verbal accounts of survivors of the Holocaust, 50 years after the event. It was a difficult research project, because I could not make sense of one of the accounts of the survivors. 

For example, one survivor was describing what it was like riding the train to AUSCHWITZ, but he was describing how he was trying to make conversation with a girl on the train. I listened and wrote out this one account almost 30 times but I just was not getting it. I could not understand how this man could be talking about wanting to make conversation with this girl on the same train to AUSCHWITZ!?! 

Because I had taught high school religion classes for nearly 20 years, it hit me hard, like a flash of lightning. Instantly, all the pieces came together, so fast. Though this survivor was in his late 60’s when he gave his account of his story on audiotape, he was remembering the events that took place, but naturally they were recounted through the mind of a teenager, the age he was on the train to AUSCHWITZ. That is why the dialogue wasn’t making any sense. I was thinking of him as an old man because the voice on the audiotape was the voice of a 68-year-old. As shocking as a bomb going off, all the different aspects of the psychological developmental stages of a teenager kicked in. I realized only too fully that he was just a young normal teenager on that train!!! And so was the girl he was trying to make conversation, and their moms and dads were there with them!!! There was no way to pretend I did not realize what I discovered. It kept hitting me: this is not some script from a movie or TV miniseries on the Holocaust. No; as much as I wished it were. The reality of this horror hit me all at once, on so many different levels of consciousness: what an unbelievable horror it was!!! How could we treat human beings like this! I remember when the realization of the magnitude of this horror first hit me, like an instant reflex. I threw down the transcript I was holding as if it were a blazing hot poker. It kept hitting me over and over again that this is not a movie script or some kind of play – this really happened! It really happened! Oh, my God, how could this have happened!?!!!

My supervisor told me at the time that I was traumatized by the oral content. Qualitative research is an attempt to understand the complexity of emotions, the kinds of emotions, and the degree of intensity involved. Our emotions are what allow us to connect with other human beings. We identify with the non-verbal quality of emotions more immediately and strongly than with the words used to express them. The non-verbal qualities include tone of voice, eye contact, facial expression, body posture, and gestures, all of which express emotions. Emotions are why we can connect with people through time, across cultures, and individually. It is the expression of human emotions in the arts that makes some works of art timeless, because they continually speak to all people through the ages. 

And when I heard what Pope Benedict XVI said about homosexuals and transgendered human beings at Christmas 2008, I felt that same trauma all over again. Because in some way, somehow, he was conveying in a non-verbal manner the horror of the Holocaust, in what appears to be a traumatized, trance-like, accepted social norm from that period of time dictating that some people just don’t count, aren’t important, and can be easily disposed of. And if you rock the boat, you could be next to be disposed of.

I truly have to believe that a person in his position would not be doing this consciously or intentionally. The horror of the Holocaust is like an atomic bomb with fallout so extensive that it spreads over a radius of more than 150 miles. The horror of the Holocaust began in 1933 and ended in 1945. The psychological fallout would have been far more extensive and more deadly, especially when it is not identified as such.

It hit me the way it did when I realized that the research I was doing about a Holocaust survivor, a man 68 years old telling his story, who was remembering what it was like to be on the train to AUSCHWITZ, from the perspective of a young teenage boy who just wanted to talk to a girl. It seemed like the same kind of horror, a tacit assumption that some people don't count and can be disposed of without remorse. Could it be that Benedict XVI is unconsciously repeating Hitler's crime against humanity by taking on a long-accepted social attitude from that period of time? 

The question I asked myself was: what would it have been like for someone growing up gay during the Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933 -1945? 

What would be the severity of the psychological effects on a boy who grew up to be gay in Germany during the time of Hitler’s NAZI PERSECUTION OF HOMOSEXUALS 1933 -1945? During the Nazi regime, homosexuals were publicly defamed and falsely accused for the major social problems of that time, which was done to incite massive public hatred and hostility directed against homosexuals. Homosexuals were used for medical experiments, physically mutilated, brutally tortured and exterminated.

Would this child, as an adult, in a severe dissociated state of mind from his own homosexual feelings (Harry Stack Sullivan MD, Dissociative Processes, Clinical Studies on Psychiatry (1956)), unconsciously perpetuate the terrifying horror of the insensitivity he had experienced growing up? If he found himself in a position of authority would he recreate the same social and political environment of violence and terror for homosexuals that he experienced, as a child who grew up to be gay, during the NAZI PERSECUTION OF HOMOSEXUALS? 

I think in truth on a much deeper level I was frightened, really frightened, to hear Pope Benedict XVI’s Christmas remarks against homosexuals and transgendered human beings and even more frightened by the silence from the larger global community of human beings. What is so frightening is, even if there is agreement that one person does not matter or is not important, in truth then no one matters. Therefore, when I thought about your blog and what you did on October 5, 2008, I felt more reassured, I felt hope, and I felt comforted. NOW, isn’t that the true meaning of Christmas?
