LGBTQ Youth At Higher Risk For Homelessness, Sex Trafficking

…Nationally, about 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. In Springfield, the average is higher - at 55 percent.
Reynolds says their sexual orientation is most likely the reason they ended up on the streets. Because they need shelter and food, homeless youth are a vulnerable target for labor and sex trafficking.
…”The biggest target right now is young gay men," said Reynolds.
It's a situation that can be even harder to spot. For any person looking from the outside, it can look like a normal relationship.
"A typical scenario would be if a young gay man would go to Martha's and then two or three days later he would tell me that he's been staying at an old gentleman's house," said Reynolds. "And everything was going great for a while, and then the older gentleman started asking for favors in return for staying there. That's sex trafficking."
The situation can escalate and go as far as that person forcing the youth to perform favors for others in exchange for shelter and other goods.
A lot of the at-risk population that we have are the ones that are engaging in that survival sex, or having to give something in order to have a place to stay, and we would consider that unsafe housing," said Sudduth.
Reynolds says young gay men are also less likely to report.
"That's the last thing they're going to do, is to tell someone that they are being taken advantage of every night by another person," said Reynolds.
Reynolds believes what they are fighting are overwhelming religious implications in the area.
"It's sort of top heavy. There really isn't another answer. It's either this religion or not," she said. "It's difficult to fight that money and that power when that's what existed for so long. It sort of tends to lead a blind eye to what's happening on the underside of society."
"No one chooses to be homeless. No one chooses to be taken advantage of by an older gentleman. No one chooses to be sex trafficked," said Reynolds. "We've got to get past the religion oppression. It cannot matter anymore what you believe religiously, you have to look at them as a human being. It's that simple.”…

Pope Francis issuing the new Vatican rules on reporting all sexual abuse cases old and new - is most remarkably unprecedented in exposing the truth and promoting honesty regarding child abuse in all its complexity and holding all local bishops accountable including regional “metropolitan bishops (archbishops)” for all cover-ups and negligence.
From Pope Francis’s lifelong past history it seems very clear that he is a man who is not afraid of facing the truth about himself or in difficult situations. Pope Francis began his very first interview as pope August 2013 by stating emphatically that - he is “a sinner” further emphasizing that he meant this statement literally. This gives us a bit of insight into the depth of Pope Francis’s lifetime practiced spirituality - no easy journey of faith - constantly being refined and shaped by Christ’s love - helping us in loving others as Christ has loved us. Pope Francis expressed spirituality reminds me of the fierce rigorous spirituality of the 16th century, Carmelite nun, “Doctor of the Church” - St. Teresa of Ávila and her friend St. John of the Cross. The purpose of reporting this history is to give some idea of what appears to be over decades - Pope Francis’s intense level of commitment to Christ that is ever exhaustive of one’s whole heart, soul and mind - to help explain what I think Pope Francis means about how “God surprises us.” I believe the rigor of this type of total absorbing spiritual journey gives us the strength of flexibility (the sea legs) to withstand some of God’s surprises, because as Pope Francis reminds/warns us that God does not meet our expectations - God instead surprises us (Jul 8, 2018). Pope Francis has been at sea for a long, long time. This is only speculation and not meant to be any actual description of Pope Francis. However, from observations Pope Francis has always been concerned about being truthful, having no false ideas about himself - announcing publicly that he is a sinner. Having that degree of honesty about himself it would seem that facing the child sexual abuse crisis Pope Francis would not sugar coat the truth. It is that depth of truth that seems to set off tsunamis - never knowing for sure what will happen. It is the belief in the words that the TRUTH will set us free.
The process of how Pope Francis arrived at the formulation of these new global rulings to protect children - has the possibilities of initiating an extraordinary powerful and endlessly revealing tsunami waves of reactions beginning at the core depths of our faith in Christ. A tsunami is not just one huge wave but a train of tsunami waves like the one that hit Japan in 2011, and while at the same time the tsunami propagation waves are radiating outward as it did from Japan that within 22 hours it had spread out affecting the entire coastal shores of the Pacific Ocean.
Tsunami Propagation Waves
Pope Francis’s major spiritual tsunami for the protection of children - was finding through extensive research that CLERICALISM was the root cause of the child sexual abuse crisis and NOT homosexuality. It was a direct hit at the wall of CLERICALISM that was a lot more than just the abuse of the hierarchy’s power and authority to coverup the decades of child sexual abuse. In response, the RC hierarchy’s explosive reaction led by Vigano and all their accomplices August 2018 against Pope Francis for his refusing to be coerced, or intimidated by all their threats, and public character assassination attacks to force him to go against the science on homosexuality and to continue scapegoating homosexuals - exposed how deeply rooted the delusions of CLERICALISM had become seamlessly a part their personality, collectively. It revealed that CLERICALISM as the root cause of the child sexual abuse crises is only the tip of the iceberg of what CLERICALISM is covering up for the RC hierarchy individually.
The degree of the RC hierarchy’s fierce negative emotional intensity behind this unprecedented attack led by Vigano against Pope Francis all without any supporting substantiating evidence - it became clear that this attack was solely triggered by Pope Francis refusing to irrationally condemn homosexuals. This exposed the fact that the CLERICALISM of the RC hierarchy has always been consciously or unconsciously - first and foremost a coverup for their continuous and constant repressed homosexual thoughts, feelings and sexual arousals that has been generating since their adolescence years to the present. These have been endless years for them of tremendous fear and self-hatred depleting them of enormous amounts of psyche energy, energy that was meant for them to be used in becoming a distinct and fully functioning human being in love, caring for others and helping to build a better world for all. It is only through this process of personal growth that one obtains a sustaining sense of self-esteem and purpose. Instead, they lack the necessary need for self-esteem and therefore they seek for it outside themselves clinging to positions of perceived power and affluence, however, never being satisfied. This helps to explain why they are unconcerned about - especially children. OF COURSE, this is not true of every member of the RC hierarchy or the clergy - just seemly the majority. WE do have some, more likely many great or almost great members of RC hierarchy who are devoutly concerned about the lives other people, who are truly disciples of Christ and you will know this is true when you meet them. Right now, Pope Francis is a phenomenal example of what a disciples of Christ is like and he was like this long before he was elected to be pope. There are others who are cut from the same cloth, including an endless number of lay people and many women who deserve to be ordained.
This demonstrated RC hierarchy's irrational intense emotional hostility directed against HOMOSEXUALS, at the time of Vigano’s attack August 2018 is only an escalation of the same kind of reaction that first was exposed when Pope Francis in July 2013 made the statement in support and respect of gay people “Who am I to judge?” It was same extreme reaction against homosexuals at the time of the release of the midterm report of the synod session 2014 and again 2015 and whenever any support or human respect was shown to gay (LGBT) people.
The tsunami continuous propagation waves radiating outward globally - from Pope Francis attacking the wall of CLERICALISM, from the Vatican’s February 2019 Bishops summit on child abuse and now at the release of the new Vatican rules on reporting all sexual abuse cases old and new - has the potential of exposing the extreme complexities of the many forms of child sexual abuse and the root causes. And revealing that they all are stemming from the decades of the RC hierarchy's negligence of forcefully refusing to accept the science on homosexuality and maliciously attacking anyone to openly begins to discuss it - just like they attacked Pope Francis, it is deadly when they attack a gay priest, who has no refuge for safety. The RC hierarchy’s ignorance about the science of human sexuality, in particular on homosexuality - has led them to become isolated being - out of touch, confused, in denial or dissociated in regards of their own sexuality. Their un-policed abusive tactics of clericalism has for decades been allowed to wrongfully scapegoated homosexuality for the child sexual abuse. They have viciously been harming children and homosexuals that over the decades has become normalized and their criminal negligence failing to protect children has also become invisible. It is this that has tremendously contributed and exacerbated the crises of child abuse in the Catholic Church.
These new Vatican rules on reporting all sexual abuse cases old and new - begin to EXPOSE the decades of the RC hierarchy's negligence of forcefully refusing to accept the science on homosexuality, SEVERELY punishing anyone who openly discusses this science or is supportive of gay people e.g. Pope Francis and instead they fiercely continue promoting the Vatican’s unsubstantiated teachings on homosexuality THAT THIS HAS CONTRIBUTED greatly to the sexual confusion, homelessness and suicides of gay adolescents. RC hierarchy are not only to be held accountable for the child sexual abuse coverups BUT also for gay sexual confused adolescents, who are dissociated from their sexuality and who inappropriately act-out sexually. These are not adolescent pedophiles - this is a crucial distinction!!! However, the RC hierarchy are to be held accountable for not knowing this difference and for the severe psychological harm they cause to these adolescents and for the damage they caused to these adolescents’ reputations. These RC hierarchy members need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This legal enforcement most definitely includes the curia of the Vatican. These new Vatican rules on reporting all sexual abuse cases old and new will help to PROMOTE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS against the members of the curia - including the local bishops, their respective “metropolitan archbishops” and their clerical staff.

From the sincerity of this unprecedented depth of humble faith in Christ - the truth and love that ensues is likely to be more that of Christ - identifiable by the words of Christ given to us “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35).”

One fact about TRUTH that is obtained through the rigor and at times the excruciating refining process of God changing our stony hearts to be closer to the heart of Christ, as noted above (especially in following the spiritual journey of St. Teresa of Ávila) that regardless how tiny this TRUTH may be - if it truly comes from God - IT has the power of expanding and growing because it contains the LOVE of God.

Accepting even a small part of the science on homosexuality, such as the public validation made by hierarchy members of the global Bishops Summit meeting on the child abuse crisis, this last February 2019, - clearly stating and adhering to the scientific research that found that there is no connection between homosexuality and pedophilia: "In the Vatican, they don’t buy the theory that gay priests are the cause” of the abuse crisis." The single defining difference between Pope Francis's new rules on child abuse and the fierce antigay resistance - is that the new rulings are about LOVE and effectiveness, as opposed to meanness and destructiveness of the fierce antigay resistance. The TRUTH contained in the new rulings, as well as, the mindset of those who helped to composed them - has already begun to expand - penetrating the decades of darkness - bringing light to dark secrets. Only, in honestly identifying problems can healing begin. The child sexual abuse crisis is indeed most complex, I believe that Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna understands this quite clearly. I believe that he speaks from experience - of honestly and diligently dealing with some of the most difficult cases. I also found that we are changed - expanded by every human being we meet with sincerity. There are no one size fits all kind of cases.

In the months leading up to the Vatican’s four-day summit on the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, some U.S. prelates, activists and even some journalists tried to link homosexuality with the abuse crisis, in attempts to urge church officials to take a hard line against gay priests.
But the topic was barely broached during the summit, and when it was, leading prelates dismissed any connection.
“To generalize, to look at a whole category of people is never legitimate. We have individual cases. We don’t have categories of people,” said Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna, who has become one of the Vatican’s point man in the fight against sex abuse.
Responding to a reporter’s question during a press briefing on Feb. 21 about why the Vatican was not discussing homosexuality, he said that homosexuality and heterosexuality are “human conditions,” adding, “they are not something that predisposes to sin.”
“To generalize, to look at a whole category of people is never legitimate. We have individual cases. We don’t have categories of people.”
“I would never dare to indicate a category as a category that has a tendency to sin,” Archbishop Scicluna said.
Archbishop Scicluna said that when it comes to sexual abuse, it is most helpful to eschew “categories” and instead to look at “single cases.”…

I believe that Pope Francis from his lived experience has concisely in just a few short words - summed up this most extraordinary complex situation and the healing process that is involved. God calls, God surprises, God loves. Do not be misled by these few simple words that this task is an effortless one. Though it can be, because God is the boss - but generally in ways that are different for everyone - it will involve giving to GOD all the strength of our hearts, souls and minds for an indefinite amount of time. At times, it may feel as we are going to die that we cannot go for even another moment, but amazingly we are given new strength the continue. Although, if we get the love of God and our neighbor - right - we will find that after we have given our all - we are never empty. We are expanded in many different ways and we find we are not filled with hate endlessly condemning others. We find that we are at peace - not in the way the world gives peace. It is unlike any destructive addiction problem i.e. drugs, hatred that becomes our all-consuming obsession that robs us of all our strength and we are left empty with nothing.

Panettiere: What kind of teaching did you receive at the seminary on homosexuality?
Gumbleton: My moral theology classes were very inadequate regarding teaching on homosexuality. There was never any distinction made between homosexuality as a choice or as part of a person’s identity. I came out of the seminary with the conviction that it was a choice and therefore a sin. I was not prepared well to accompany gays and lesbians in their struggles.
Did you make mistakes, as a parish priest, in your pastoral accompaniment of gays and lesbians?
Yes, because I heard confessions with the mindset of homosexual actions being sinful because the penitent was choosing to go against nature. When I tried to counsel them, my counseling was of no help because according to the teaching, developing an intimate friendship with someone of the same sex would be a sin. My advice to them was to break off any such friendships because I felt that it was simply a choice and not a friendship that was based on their identity as a homosexual person. In fact, asking them to give up friendships, obviously, was not the right advice. Everyone needs close friends. I felt I was guiding them away from occasions of sin when in fact I was eliminating their opportunity for real friendships…
Does the church share some of the guilt for the homophobia in society today?
Yes, the church bears some responsibility for homophobia in society. According to one of the church’s documents, gays and lesbians are “intrinsically disordered.” This insistence on the fact that they are intrinsically disordered creates fear, anger and causes people to make false judgments about LGBT people. All of this contributes to homophobia.
Do you think the church has arrived at a definitive teaching on homosexuality?
No. The church’s teaching is still developing. Research has shown that LGBT people are LGBT at birth and that this is part of their identity. However, that is not universally accepted and so there are still negative judgments about them. The church must continue to explore this issue more profoundly from a scientific point of view.
According to Catholic teaching, a parent should tell his or her gay or lesbian child that homosexuality is "objectively disordered." Don't you think this idea would hurt that child?
Yes. No parent should ever tell a child that he or she is intrinsically disordered. For the church to teach such a thing is insulting to the parent and child. I’ve had parents become very angry if that is even suggested, and I don’t blame them…
Do you think chastity is the only correct way for a same-sex couple to live?
According to church teaching at the present time, celibacy is the only choice for a gay or lesbian person. However, we need to heed the example of Pope Francis, who welcomes gay people into his circle of friends. In doing so, he asks the question, “Who am I to judge?" If two people are following their conscience, I have no right to interfere.

We still have a long ways to go because the antigay violence is severe and lethal and it is extensive and global. The Vatican's teachings on homosexuality are unsubstantiated - they destroy LGBT children lives, they rob these children of love, isolating them in a loveless existence that last a lifetime - far worst than foot-binding - all done in the name of God! These unsubstantiated Vatican's teachings on homosexuality are completely void of the science on homosexuality - need to be renounced. Again, Pope Francis has several times initiated an open dialogue on gay people - because that is what is truly needed. I know the psychological lifelong harm caused to gay children growing up by these unsubstantiated Vatican's teachings on homosexuality. This harm is easily observed, especially in the obnoxious antigay members of the RC hierarchy, such as Burke, Chaput, Muller, etc., who emotionally are condemning of homosexuality, but they offer absolutely no supporting scientific facts. Without any supporting scientific facts their antigay statements are their own subjective thoughts that reveal their repressed homosexuality. Their input is useless, except to be used as an example of the psychological antigay harm caused in childhood and how it is played out in adulthood.

What they were taught and experienced love to be was disguised cruelty and hatred. THEY WERE ROBBED OF DEVELOPING A HEALTHY SELF LOVE - because the RC hierarchy were plagued with never ending demonic and self-destructive LIE!!! This lie twisted the true meaning of love around to mean the exact opposite which is hate - disguised as love. And so when they were taught the commandment to “Love your neighbor as yourself” their self-love was self-hatred and self-contempt and this is how they treated their neighbor. As church leaders they taught others this twisted form of love, which is hate. THEY have recreated globally their early childhood demonic abusive social environment, which they believe is love. It is build on their twisted understanding of love, which means it was built on hate!!!
The repressed homosexual RC hierarchy lived so long with this twisted form of love, which is painfully hateful that they no longer trust love. In fact, when they come close to true real love - out of fear and anger - they tend to push this real love away - even attempt to destroy it. Because consciously or unconsciously it brings back painful early childhood memories that whenever they trusted love and expressed their love outward, it was shockingly without warning harshly rejected. The love that the RC hierarchy had trusted turned against them and became unbearably overwhelmingly painful. The Vatican’s unsubstantiated teaching on homosexuality is responsible for this abusive treatment of very young gay children robbing them of love and teaching them how to hate!!! FOOT-BINDING!
This is a severe invisible form of child abuse causing lifelong harmful effectives, as well as, generating overwhelming amounts of unwarranted nearly incapacitating self guilt and self-hatred. It is this guilt that appears to have been and is still being exploited by such as - what appears to be the manipulation of Cardinal Burke 2017 by “militant traditionalist organizations” as the “Lepanto Institute for the Restoration of All Things in Christ” and the recent Steve Bannon - “Booga Booga" scare tactics - by threatening the investigations of the lives of the RC hierarchy.THESE SCARE TACTICS always crop up the year before a US presidential election year.

Catholic leaders greeted the news on May 9 that the Vatican will require all bishops to adopt procedures aimed at holding church leaders accountable for reporting sexual abuse with optimism. Victim advocacy groups appear more cautious, however, saying the new measure is only a first step.
Cardinal Blase Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago who in November floated an idea for bishop accountability similar to the outline released by the Vatican, called the new measure “revolutionary” and said it “closes a loop” when it comes to holding church leaders accountable.
“What’s quite extraordinary about this is that if in fact there is a mishandling by a bishop who’s responsible for an investigation, then he is liable to be investigated for any cover-up,” he said in an interview with America…
Kim Smolik, who heads the Leadership Roundtable, a lay-led reform group that promotes transparency and accountability in the church, called the new rule “an important step forward for Catholics around the globe.” But Ms. Smolik cautioned that more must be done.
“While it does not yet address the breadth of culture change necessary to address the root causes of the crises of abuse and leadership failures, it does provide the foundation for bishop conferences to create meaningful accountability policies for their region,” she said….

The sweeping new regulations are Francis' latest effort to combat sexual abuse involving the church, a long-running and painful issue that has cast a shadow on his papacy.
The papal decree also sets up new procedures to hold more-senior church authorities such as bishops accountable for committing abuse or for covering up the crimes of others. And it requires that within a year, churches must establish "one or more public, stable and easily accessible systems for submission of reports.”…
…It also outlines procedures for how to report and investigate a bishop for these kinds of abuses, including involving lay experts.
The Pope has repeatedly stated that the specializations and professional skills of the laity represent an important resource for the Church," Vatican News reported.
"People must know that bishops are at the service of the people," said Archbishop Charles Scicluna, the Vatican's sex crimes prosecutor, told The Associated Press. "They are not above the law, and if they do wrong, they must be reported."
The papal decree could impact cases from years ago. The AP notes that because the reporting requirement "is procedural and not criminal in nature, it can be applied retroactively, meaning priests and nuns are now required to report even old cases of sexual wrongdoing and cover-ups — and enjoy whistleblower protections for doing so."

Simply put, internalized homophobia happens when LGBQ individuals are subjected to society’s negative perceptions, intolerance and stigmas towards LGBQ people, and as a result, turn those ideas inward believing they are true.
It has been defined as ‘the gay person’s direction of negative social attitudes toward the self, leading to a devaluation of the self and resultant internal conflicts and poor self-regard.’ (Meyer and Dean, 1998).
Or as “the self-hatred that occurs as a result of being a socially stigmatized person.” (Locke, 1998).
Internalized Homophobia ....Because of the strength of early socialization experiences, and because of continued exposure to antigay attitudes, internalized homophobia remains an important factor in the gay person’s psychological adjustment throughout life. Gay people maintain varying degrees of residual antigay attitudes that are integrated into their self- perception that can lead to mental health problems (Cabaj, 1988;Hetrick & Martin, 1984;Malyon, 1981–1982;Nungesser, 1983). Gonsiorek (1988) called such residual internalized homophobia “covert,” and said, “Covert forms of internalized homophobia are the most common. …—In the most proximal position along the continuum from the environment to the self, internalized homophobia represents a form of stress that is internal and insidious. In the absence of overt negative events, and even if one’s minority status is successfully concealed, lesbians and gay men may be harmed by directing negative social values toward the self. Thoits (1985, p. 222) described such a process of self-stigmatization, explaining that “role-taking abilities enable individuals to view themselves from the imagined perspective of others. One can anticipate and respond in advance to others’ reactions regarding a contemplated course of action.”
Clinicians use the term internalized homophobia to refer to the internalization of societal antigay attitudes in lesbians and gay men (e.g., Malyon, 1981–1982). Meyer and Dean (1998) defined internalized homophobia as “the gay person’s direction of negative social attitudes toward the self, leading to a devaluation of the self and resultant internal conflicts and poor self-regard” (p. 161). After they accept their stigmatized sexual orientation, LGB people begin a process of coming out. Optimally, through this process they come to terms with their homosexuality and develop a healthy identity that incorporates their sexuality (Cass, 1979, 1984;Coleman, 1981–1982;Troiden, 1989). Internalized homophobia signifies the failure of the coming out process to ward off stigma and thoroughly overcome negative self-perceptions and attitudes (Morris et al., 2001). Although it is most acute early in the coming out process, it is unlikely that internalized homophobia completely abates even when the person has accepted his or her homosexuality. Because of the strength of early socialization experiences, and because of continued exposure to antigay attitudes, internalized homophobia remains an important factor in the gay person’s psychological adjustment throughout life. Gay people maintain varying degrees of residual antigay attitudes that are integrated into their self- perception that can lead to mental health problems (Cabaj, 1988;Hetrick & Martin, 1984;Malyon, 1981–1982;Nungesser, 1983). Gonsiorek (1988) called such residual internalized homophobia “covert,” and said, “Covert forms of internalized homophobia are the most common. For almost 500 years, young men from all over Switzerland have made the trek to Rome to guard the pope as Swiss guards.
Now a former member of the elite division has revealed that, besides protecting the pontiff, he spent his two years in the Vatican rebuffing unwanted sexual advances from priests, bishops and even a high-ranking cardinal.
The unnamed guard told a Swiss newspaper that he was the subject of 20 “unambiguous sexual requests”.
“One night, after midnight, I received a call on my mobile phone,” said the former guard in the interview. “The person on the other end said he was a cardinal and he asked me to come to his room.”
On another occasion the guard, who said he served during the papacy of Pope John Paul II, found a bottle of whiskey outside his door alongside the calling card of an influential bishop.
He recalled a dinner with a priest in a Rome restaurant that took an unexpected turn.
“As the spinach and steak were served, the priest said to me: ‘And you are the dessert’,” recalled the ex-guard, saying he stood up and left without touching his food. When the guard complained about the incident to his superior in the guard, he said he was told that, as he spoke no Italian, he had clearly misunderstood the priest’s intentions…

What must it be like to be among the majority of the members of the RC hierarchy who are repressed homosexuals, who fiercely reject the science on homosexuality - where the defense mechanism of “projective identification” reigns supreme by and against each member. Meaning that each member is inducing their individual personal intolerable repressed homosexual EMOTIONAL guilt and fear into every other member continuously. And then to witness the dynamic of every member trying to manage their individual personal intolerable repressed homosexual EMOTIONAL guilt and fear in every other member. To witness that no one is taking responsibility for their own personal EMOTIONAL guilt and fear must be beyond belief. And no one sees the insanity - it must be something like being “Alice in Wonderland.” This may explained why they are obsessed with endless infighting and character assassination plots - always accusing each other of closeted homosexual behavior, to forcefully try to keep repressed (out of conscious awareness) their being homosexually aroused i.e. the Vatileaks, "boffo method,” cold-blooded killer, etc.

And then these insane repressed homosexual RC prelates are going to judge my case NOW that is vivid insanity, because my CASE is solely BASED on the science and religion on homosexuality. They are going to judge something they know absolutely nothing about - which is the science on gay sexual orientation and the lifelong harmful effects caused to very young children growing up gay. They do not realize that the science being revealed in my case, which is fundamental reasoning for my "coming out" MARCH 1997, Holy Family Parish, Sparta, Michigan. This science not only exposes and identifies the RC prelates' repressed homosexual behavior, but it details the "why" and the "how" of its onset that begins in their early childhood years growing up.
The RC Prelates without the truth acquired through the dialogue between the science and religion on homosexuality - they are unknowingly using the defense mechanism of “projective identification.” They are frantically acting like “a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” to project their intolerable repressed homosexual feelings of guilt and fear onto. However, in my case their attempt - to induce their individual intolerable repressed homosexual feelings of guilt and fear onto me and then their trying to control to manage their guilt and fear through judging me/my case does not work. This is because it is not based on objective truth. It is a travesty of justice, a false, absurd, and distorted representation of the facts, just as it was with the Chilean bishops demonizing Mr. Cruz.

It is based on their own SUBJECTIVE ignorance of the SCIENCE on homosexuality, their repressed homosexual fear and guilt ridden self-centered perspective. They are not dealing with reality, OBJECTIVE TRUTH, regarding themselves and especially with me/my case. However, their attempt to induce their guilt into me DOES NOT WORK! WHY NOT? Because I with all my heart, soul, mind and strength have struggled to continually try to be “alert and of sober mind” by MAINTAINING the balance between my emotions and the objective rationale of TRUTH - acquired through the dialogue between the science and religion (Christ's Love) on homosexuality. Why it does not work is because all that they have is the negative emotional outbursts against homosexuality - completely absent of any objective rationale regarding homosexuality.

I spent a great deal of time (several years), effort and prayer working at removing the plank from my own eye and had stopped trying to first - to remove the speck in my brother’s eye. I began by first, facing the truth about myself and by studying the authoritative science and religion on gay sexual orientation and seeking reputable spiritual direction. So, now I am aware of their sick violent behavior. I am not susceptible to their repressed homosexual guilt ridden inducement, because I know what it is like to be in that repressed guilt ridden state of mind. And my case is all about preventing children from being forced into that guilt ridden state of mind. Whenever we lose the dialogue between science and religion - we are no longer alert and sober of mind. This perspective is easy to lose.
This is why I have warned them that unless my case is judge free of all their trumped charges and instead ruling that I have always remained a priest in good standing - my case would judge them and it has. Even the formulation of their phase “deeply rooted homosexual tendencies” has no authoritative substantiated basis in science or religion. It is a clear product emerging from their collective use of the defense mechanism “projective identification.” “Deeply rooted homosexual tendencies” is subjectively formed from their intolerable repressed homosexual feelings of guilt being induced into other people, like seminarians and then their insane attempt to manage it in seminarians. Bananas!!! It is nuts!!!

The reason why the psychological defense mechanism of “projective identification” reigns supreme among the Repressed Homosexual members of the RC hierarchy - is that if we study the science on sexual orientation we would learn that it is composed of interrelated biological and psychological processes that are not able to be consciously controlled or suppressed. These interrelated processes function outside our conscious awareness - automatically and continuously throughout life as part of the autonomic nervous system - like the heart beating and breathing. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation - is essential in meeting our most basic human need for love, attachment, intimacy, through which empathy is developed. The automatic and continuous functioning of our homosexual sexual orientation - becomes dangerously problematic - when it is not identified and fully accepted during our adolescence stage of psychological development that allows us the awareness to manage it appropriately throughout our adult lives, otherwise without this accepted awareness it becomes inappropriately disruptive throughout our adult lives e.g. the Obsessive Antigay RC Hierarchy Repressed Homosexuals - “50 Shades of” CLOSETED Gay Adult Sex Scandals, and the 17 Antigay Leaders Exposed as Gay or Bi, & Republican Who Spread Butt on Gay Sex Site Resigns.

Becoming a Catholic priest (not true of all, just the majority), a young man is entering an organization that is strongly based on enforcing and maintaining the denial, dissociation and repression of the reality and the functioning of the sexual orientation of homosexuality. It is an organization that idealizes the failure to achieve the developmental goal of adolescence that is understanding and accepting one’s sexuality, sexual orientation and for them accepting their homosexuality as a GIFT from GOD. It is an organization the highly values the stagnation of the psychological developmental stage of adolescence. In essence, it is an unnatural organizational sexual repressed guilt pressure cooker. Therefore, it does not take much, in fact, very little instigation to triggered an hysterical emotional outburst of guilt over anything sexually homosexual. And it takes nothing to start a hierarchical collegial sexually repressed contagion effect, like kindling wood. “Projective identification” is first a projection of the guilt of unwanted homosexual feelings followed by inducing the guilt of these unwanted gay feelings into another person and then trying to manage those feelings in the other person. The majority of the members of the RC hierarchy have over the past 3 decades well established to the public their obsessive antigay crusade. The guilt contained among these antigay members of the hierarchy when triggered - they act like the uncontrollable forest wildfires. To some extent this was demonstrated at the Synod session on Family 2014, at the time of the release of the mid-term report revealing that an open discussion favorable to respecting gay people took place. This hysterical emotional outburst of guilt immediately circled the global among the RC hierarchy and surprisingly, they reacted publicly in almost lockstep fashion - meaning they used nearly the same words and had the about the same degree of emotional intensity. Burke led this sexual repressed hysteria and in fact he fueled it all the way through the second session on Family 2015. It most noticeably abated instantly once it was announced midway through the synod session 2015 that the scheduled open discussion on gay people was canceled.
Pope Francis’s respectful attitude towards gay people is a most striking contrast from the hostile antigay attitude of majority of the members of the RC hierarchy. Whatever Pope Francis’s sexuality is - it clearly appears it is not obsessively problematic for him that he successful completed the developmental stage of adolescence.
Successfully, completely the developmental stage of adolescence means accepting and feeling comfortable about one’s sexuality. This allows for understanding and managing one’s sexuality in adulthood. There isn’t a tremendous amount of time and psychic energy used up trying to keep suppressing one’s sexuality that cannot be suppressed, and feeling ever growing amounts of unwarranted guilt, which is living a life in stagnation. A person who is not sexually stagnated uses all the time and energy building a life, developing one’s individual skills and talents, living a full and productive life.

Homophobes should consider a little self-reflection, suggests a new study finding those individuals who are most hostile toward gays and hold strong anti-gay views may themselves have same-sex desires, albeit undercover ones.
The prejudice of homophobia may also stem from authoritarian parents, particularly those with homophobic views as well, the researchers added.
"This study shows that if you are feeling that kind of visceral reaction to an out-group, ask yourself, 'Why?'" co-author Richard Ryan, a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester, said in a statement. "Those intense emotions should serve as a call to self-reflection.”
The research, published in the April 2012 issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, reveals the nuances of prejudices like homophobia, which can ultimately have dire consequences. [The 10 Most Destructive Human Behaviors]
"Sometimes people are threatened by gays and lesbians because they are fearing their own impulses, in a sense they 'doth protest too much,'" Ryan told LiveScience. "In addition, it appears that sometimes those who would oppress others have been oppressed themselves, and we can have some compassion for them too, they may be unaccepting of others because they cannot be accepting of themselves.”…

…The research may help to explain the underpinnings of anti-gay bullying and hate crimes, the researchers note. People in denial about their own sexual orientation, perhaps a denial fostered by authoritarian and homophobic parents, may feel a threat from other gay and lesbian individuals. Lashing out may ultimately be an indicator of the person's own internal conflict with sexual orientation.
This inner conflict can be seen in some high-profile cases in which anti-gay public figures are caught engaging in same-sex acts, the researchers say. For instance, evangelical preacher and anti-gay-marriage advocate Ted Haggard was caught in a gay sex scandal in 2006. And in 2010, prominent anti-gay activist and co-founder of conservative Family Research Council George Rekers was reportedly spotted in 2010 with a male escort rented from Rentboy com. According to news reports, the escort confirmed Rekers is gay.
"We laugh at or make fun of such blatant hypocrisy, but in a real way, these people may often themselves be victims of repression and experience exaggerated feelings of threat," Ryan said. "Homophobia is not a laughing matter. It can sometimes have tragic consequences," as was the case in the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay man.

Pope Francis has told a group of celebrity pilgrims who walked to Rome from the Alps for a BBC Easter documentary that anyone who “discards” a gay person “doesn’t have a human heart”.
His remarks came during a private audience with the eight UK celebrities, including actor Les Dennis, comedian Katy Brand and Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford, that marked the end of their 1000 kilometre walk along a section of the ancient Via Francigena pilgrim route.
During the audience, due to be broadcast in the third and final episode of Pilgrimage: The Road To Rome at 9pm on BBC Two on Good Friday, British comedian Stephen K Amos told Pope Francis that, as a gay man, he didn’t feel accepted by the Church.

Dear Bishop David,
I received your letter dated October 2015, that included a request to set an appointment to dialogue with you. At the time, my commitments,obligations and lack of financial means did not permit me to follow through. Furthermore, the around trip from Canton, MI to Grand Rapids, MI would have been about eight hours. However, after seeking reliable spiritual direction I was advised to write a letter to accept your request to meet. In the process of writing this letter, I began to thoroughly research the situation, from the combined insight obtained from three professionals perspectives, as a priest, as a psychologist, and as a historian. Through these perspectives, I have analyzed the many ways in which I was a victim of antigay hierarchal violence, having no judicial oversight to appeal to for protection within the church or civilly. This is an unidentified form of structural violence directed not at me alone but also many priests, theologians, sisters, religious and others, including Pope Francis for the past four decades - all have been victims of this form of violence.

…Direct violence is horrific, but its brutality usually gets our attention: we notice it, and often respond to it. Structural violence, however, is almost always invisible, embedded in ubiquitous social structures, normalized by stable institutions and regular experience. Structural violence occurs whenever people are disadvantaged by political, legal, economic, or cultural traditions. Because they are longstanding, structural inequities usually seem ordinary—the way things are and always have been. But structural violence produces suffering and death as often as direct violence does, though the damage is slower, more subtle, more common, and more difficult to repair. The chapters in this section teach us about some important but invisible forms of structural violence, and alert us to the powerful cultural mechanisms that create and maintain them over generations…
One outcome of exclusionary thinking is the belief that victims of violence must in some way deserve their plight. But certainly it is easy to see that young children do not deserve to be victims…

The main purpose of this form of structural violence is to silence and remove anyone in the Church who openly discusses the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality - gay people. This antigay hierarchical, structural violence has been successful in firmly suppressing this science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. In 1957, world renowned psychologist, Dr. Evelyn Hooker conducted ground breaking research proving that homosexuality is not a mental illness. She proved that being homosexual was just as normal as being heterosexual. For years the hierarchical church has rebuked such scientifically sound findings and have championed the obsessive suppression of gay people. Such actions lead to question who benefits from falsifying truth? The hierarchical church did not suppress the scientific research on heart surgery or cancer for the past 60 years. This vicious form of gay suppression is entrenched in the corruption of the curia in which speaking the truth has become a reprehensible thing. Through my years of analysis, I have come to find that the greatest harm this suppression imposes is on our children.

My “coming out” in March 1997 was all based on substantiated science and scripture. Furthermore, it was motivated to protect defenseless children. How did risking my life by coming out warrant such extreme vindictive retaliation for the past 20 years by members of the curia and hierarchy?
How did it get twisted around that I refused to return to the Grand Rapids Dioceses, when in fact, it was made clear to me that it was unsafe for me to return by their coercing me to acquiesce to being sent away to be re-educated on the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. They wanted me to leave the priesthood on my own, which would be another grave sin to commit. Since I had no recourse to appeal to for justice in 1997 - what recourse would I have available to me if I returned and more severe immoral tactics were used against me?
This tactic of the curia to dispose of someone was most recently demonstrated by Cardinal Raymond Burke firing Boeselager the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. Burke falsified a papal decision of Pope Francis that no one was to be fired, that the problematic issues with the Knights of Malta should be resolved through dialogue. Burke without any true dialogue with Boeselager stated that it was Pope Francis’s wish that he resign as the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. When Boeselager refused to resign because of “unreasonable circumstances,” Burke fired him on the grounds of disobedience. Sound familiar? Boeselager, then appealed directly to Pope Francis and an investigation was ordered into the firing of Boeselager. It was later exposed that the grounds that Burke had used against Boeselager were over “condoms.” However, this information was contrived by a group of Burke’s supporters known as “Lepanto Institute for the Restoration of All Things in Christ.” This group is described as a “militant traditionalist organization close to Burke (Austen Ivereigh).” “This ultraconservative organization specialized in the denunciation of "gays” entering the Church and in attacks on the major development associations that question unfettered economic liberalism (La Croix International).” On February 4, 2017, Pope Francis replaced Cardinal Burke as the Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and overnight all over Rome appeared posters of Pope Francis with a sad expression with the words - “Where is your mercy?”
It was the truth from science and religion that morally obligated me to come out for the protection of children growing up gay in March 1997. This was an act of love and my duty as a priest. It is the true meaning of being a priest. Pope Francis on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in his homily during Mass at Casa Santa Marta confirmed this fact stating,"The Good Shepherd gives his life for his sheep,” using as an example the parish priest of Barbiana, Fr. Don Milani, the from the Diocese of Firenze (Florence).
The research to find the answers to these questions endlessly kept unfolding more and more information that led back in time - more than a century and a half. The research doors were opened wide once Pope Francis was elected and he along with his team of experts, and cardinals began reforming the curia. The research revealed two main historical events that were dependent on exploiting societal prejudices against gay people to rise and to stay in power. The, first, began with the ideology of Nazism promoted by Hitler and the Nazi regime that led to the deaths of 70 million people unprecedented in human history. The, second, began the with ideology of the “trickle-down theory” known as Reaganomics that led to Globalization and the greatest inequality in human history - “A world where 1% of humanity controls as much wealth as the bottom 99% will never be stable (President Obama’s departing speech to the UN General Assembly September 2016).‟ Ian Kershaw explains what Hitler’s place in history will be:

Over the past year and a half - I have been researching and writing 24/7, since I received your letter - gathering significant amounts of factual data on all three levels (as a priest, psychologist and historian). This research includes my personal experience of being a victim of the hierarchical, antigay violence. As it happens when I do research, such as it did when I was doing the qualitative research on the Holocaust in graduate school for psychology, it is only after thoroughly exhausting every possible avenue several times do all the pieces begin to fall into place like a jigsaw puzzle that a picture is formed.
The picture centers on the crucial importance for the safety and well-being of all of humanity present and on into the future and is dependent on maintaining an ongoing dialogue between science and religion. This is necessary to obtain truth that which then gives meaning and value to love. Without this truth formed through this process -
…Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. It falls prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted,to the point where it comes to mean the opposite…
Benedict XVI - Caritas in Veritate 2007 2009
Pope Benedict XVI goes on to make the warning that “Any breachin this dialogue comes only at an enormous price to human development…” St. Pope John Paul II made an early statement to this effect explaining how science and religion cannot be separated. He explains - as Benedict does that science is the study of all of God’s creation and religion is formed from the bible, which is the inspired word of God. They both explain how the dialogue between science and religion becomes a self-correcting mechanism of oversight, preventing abuse and maintaining integrity of both science and religion - thus allowing science and religion to guide us on our journey into the future. Both John Paul II and Benedict XVI are writing from their experience having lived through the atrocities of Hitler and the Nazi regime (1933-1945) that resulted from their manipulation and abuse of science and religion to invent a pseudo-science to legitimize Hitler’s ideology of Nazism and pseudo-religious terms to promote it. They experienced living in a social environment saturated in the racial ideology of Nazism - where the meaning of love was so twisted around that in actuality love meant the opposite. Love meant exterminating people considered to be less than human or subhuman - “Life Unworthy Of Life.”
With the recent election of President Trump we are experiencing living in a similar social environment saturated with the ideology of the “trickle-down theory.” This led to Globalization that was also legitimized by the manipulation of science and religion that twisted the meaning of love around to mean the exact opposite. In addition to Mr. Trump’s behavior, the Republican Convention 2016 slogans, “Lock her up!” (that sounded like the palpable hysteria of the Nazi Party “Sieg Heil” chant at a Cathedral lit Nuremberg Rally of the 1930s) and his being elected US president are all blatant examples of love twisted to mean the opposite. Both the rise of Nazism and Globalization were depended on the exploitation of societal prejudices against gay people.
However, in regards to rise of the “trickle-down theory”of the 1980s that led to Globalization - the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are responsible for the exploitation of societal prejudices against gay people. The research of Dr. Evelyn Hooker and subsequent research completely dispel prejudices against gay people. Instead of the curia and hierarchy acknowledging the truth of this science - they manipulated religion by misusing the bible and continued to wrongly condemn homosexuality. Thus they twisted the meaning of truth around to the point that it continues to mean the opposite. They and their supporters are not about truth and therefore not about love. They are no different than the palpable hysteria of the Nazi Party “Sieg Heil” members at the Nuremberg Rallies of the 1930s. And this is the violence, their twisted meaning of truth - the complete absence of love, they have used against me and against so many others before and after me. Some of our best and brightest theologians and bridge makers, such as, Sister Jeannine Gramick and Fr. Robert Nugent. Gramick and Nugent have been responsible since 1977 for saving millions of people’s lives, especially very young children. To the best of my knowledge, they were the first to begin an ongoing dialogue on the science of the sexual orientation of homosexuality - gay people and religion - scripture and theology.
S c i e n c e can purify religion from error and superstition;
R e l i g i o n can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes.
Each can draw the other into a wider world,
a world in which both can flourish.

I came out in March 1997: for the protection of children, as young as 4 and 5 years of age, who are growing up gay. Since then it has become a moral obligation to educate and prevent forced parental suppression and unsubstantiated antigay social and religious norms.What has bothered me ever since was the fact that I found it difficult to find the r o o t c a u s e in understanding “how” and “why” and “when” did the meaning of “love” and “truth” get so monumentally - twisted around; notably among the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy to mean the exact opposite.
For the past 10 years I have been writing in an effort to explain how this mindless inquisition that started almost immediately after coming out in June 1997 - of being coerced “behind closed doors” by a directive from the curia conveyed by the bishop for me to acquiesce to being sent away “somewhere” to be re-educated on the science on the sexual orientation of homosexuality. This directive was not only shocking, but traumatizing as well.
This irrational directive from the curia completely negated the immediate need of protecting the lives of millions of very young defenseless children from lifelong debilitating harmful effects. It also negated the wealth of the authoritative substantiated research gathered from the major medical and mental health associations, institutions, and organizations, including universities. This was the reason for my “coming out.”
Through knowledge acquired during my studies at the University of Michigan and attending the American Psychological Association National Conventions my research was reinforced on the science of sexual orientation. The action of the curia and hierarchy was a blatant affront, a direct attack on truth and love, as taught and embodied in Jesus Christ, of which the entire purpose and meaning of priesthood is based on. It was like a supervisor telling a heart surgeon that he is going to be be sent away on a sabbatical to be reeducated on the ancient system of medicine known as “bloodletting.” I cannot explain how twisted it sounded - to be told such absurdity!!! “Who in the hell is running this ship?!?” I was 47 years old at the time.
How did the curia and hierarchy cause a breach in the dialogue between science and religion that ended up twisting the meaning of love around to mean the opposite?
We will learn from studying the - science on sexual orientation that it is composed of interrelated biological and psychological processes that are not able to be consciously controlled or suppressed. These interrelated processes function outside our conscious awareness - automatically and continuously throughout life as part of the autonomic nervous system - like the heart beating and breathing. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation - is essential in meeting our most basic human need for love, attachment, intimacy, through which empathy is developed. The continuous functioning of our sexual orientation is as vital to human survival from the beginning of life to the end - as the heart beating and breathing. Any attempt to force the suppression of a child’s gay sexual orientation is the same as suppressing the heart and breathing rate which can cause a number of lifelong adverse effects (persistent form of depression (dysthymia), suicidal ideation, and obsessive dislike for gay people that is implicit, to explicit verbal expressions of hate, to lethal forms of violence, and torture).
The majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy are European. They are the ones who grew up in the toxic antigay social environments left behind by Hitler’s Nazi regime. This begins to explain the long history of the majority of the members of the curia and hierarchy’s collective obsessive antigay crusade. This collective thought suppressed all emerging science on homosexuality for the past 60 years. For these members of the curia and hierarchy the thought of gay science has been a long closed door slammed shut in their early childhood years. This was out of great fear from their witnessing the terror in the adult’s warnings of how Hitler treated priests who were found out to be homosexuals. As this trauma of the early childhood events are not remembered, only the emotional terror of the event remains. It is this emotional terror that is wronglymistaken as an innate guiding voice of their conscience strongly conveying to them that homosexuality is evil. This misunderstanding then becomes a force that completely obliterates years of scientific research on homosexuality. It is more likely that such scientific research ignites seemingly unending waves of unexplainable terror. That door slammed tightly shut - is the breach in the dialogue between science and religion on the issue of homosexuality. This is a childhood defense mechanism. It is the only means available to the child to stop the unending waves of fear. However, as adults, these childhood defenses must be reexamined in a safe environment - to be challenged in the adult dialogue between science and religion on issues of homosexuality. As Pope Benedict XVI explains, this is the only process to find truth and give real value and meaning to the understanding of love. I do not presume this to be an easy task to unravel and should only be attempted in a safe environment. However, this situation - is not unusual - it brings to mind the words of St. Paul to be understood with great care and empathy.

No, no, no this type of breach in the dialogue between science and religion on gay sexual orientation has to stop! Justice demands that I be exonerated and proper restitution be made for all harm endured, including the lost salary for the past 20 years to be made quickly. Not to follow through on this road of true justice is to continue this breach in the dialogue between science and religion on gay sexual orientation. Am I, like so many others, going to be made an example of what happens when a priest speaks aloud the truth? Will this be a situation reminiscent of Hitler’s regime to remove and silence Anti-Nazi priests? Are you going demonstrate publicly how an advanced society of people made a major contribution to the modern barbarity of Hitler and the Nazi regime by their complicity and indifference?
My moral obligation as a priest is to protect people, especially children.
I look forward to setting a time to dialogue the reality of this situation in the light of the warnings of both St. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI while maintaining an open discussion between science and religion for the search of truth that leads to love.

Hooker's work was the first to empirically test the assumption that gay men were mentally unhealthy and maladjusted. The fact that no differences were found between gay and straight participants sparked more research in this area and began to dismantle the myth that homosexual men and women are inherently unhealthy.
In conjunction with other empirical results, this work led the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from the DSM in 1973 (it had been listed as a sociopathic personality disorder). The problem with early childhood exposure and or experienced traumatic events is that the memories of such events can be sealed in the unconscious that continue to disrupt the adult-child victims lives - until if these repressed memories are able to be recovered and integrate in the person’s life. In the jargon of contemporary homosexual culture, those who hide their sexual identities are referred to as either closeted or said to be in the closet. Revealing one's homosexuality is referred to as coming out. Clinical experience with gay patients reveals hiding and revealing behaviors to be psychologically complex.
Homosexual Identities
In the developmental histories of gay men and women, periods of difficulty in acknowledging their homosexuality, either to themselves or to others, are often reported. Children who grow up to be gay rarely receive family support in dealing with anti-homosexual prejudices. On the contrary, beginning in childhood--and distinguishing them from racial and ethnic minorities--gay people are often subjected to the antihomosexual attitudes of their own families and communities (Drescher et al., 2004). Antihomosexual attitudes include homophobia (Weinberg, 1972), heterosexism (Herek, 1984), moral condemnations of homosexuality (Drescher, 1998) and antigay violence (Herek and Berrill, 1992). Hiding activities learned in childhood often persist into young adulthood, middle age and even senescence, leading many gay people to conceal important aspects of themselves…
DISSOCIATION
What psychological mechanisms facilitate separating one's sexual identity from the rest of one's persona? Sullivan's (1956) concept of dissociation may be illuminating, particularly its most common aspect: selective inattention. A ubiquitous, nonpathological process, selective inattention makes life more manageable, like tuning out the background noise on a busy street. However, through dissociation of
anxiety-provoking knowledge about the self, a whole double life can be lived and yet, in some ways, not be known. Clinical presentations of closeted gay people may lie somewhere in severity between selective inattention--most commonly seen in the case of homosexually self-aware patients thinking about "the possibility" that they might be gay--to more severe dissociation--in which any hint of same-sex feelings resides totally out of conscious awareness. A child’s sexual orientation is not about sexual behavior - it is about love, wanting to feel one with another. Depending on the severity of this rejection of a child’s expression of love - the child wants to desperately please his parents and will learn to hid from his parent such emotions of love that are disturbing to them. He will even hide them from himself and thus begins the mental dissociation of this child - attempting to suppress the never ending - regular functioning of his sexual orientation of the emotional impulses - to be loved and to love and to feel one with another.

Dear Fr. Geoff Farrow,
I have been so saddened by Pope Benedict XVI's cruel words to LGBTQ people around the world, to their parents, families and friends, most ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN. After reading the accounts of this human travesty, I did not know where to find comfort or hope. And then I thought about your blog. And just like receiving a wonderful Christmas present, sure enough I found the hope and comfort I needed to hear. Photo
I am a priest and a clinical psychologist (MS). And for one of my research projects I chose to do a qualitative research project of the recorded verbal accounts of survivors of the Holocaust, 50 years after the event. It was a difficult research project, because I could not make sense of one of the accounts of the survivors.
For example, one survivor was describing what it was like riding the train to AUSCHWITZ, but he was describing how he was trying to make conversation with a girl on the train. I listened and wrote out this one account almost 30 times but I just was not getting it. I could not understand how this man could be talking about wanting to make conversation with this girl on the same train to AUSCHWITZ!?!
Because I had taught high school religion classes for nearly 20 years, it hit me hard, like a flash of lightning. Instantly, all the pieces came together, so fast. Though this survivor was in his late 60’s when he gave his account of his story on audiotape, he was remembering the events that took place, but naturally they were recounted through the mind of a teenager, the age he was on the train to AUSCHWITZ. That is why the dialogue wasn’t making any sense. I was thinking of him as an old man because the voice on the audiotape was the voice of a 68-year-old. As shocking as a bomb going off, all the different aspects of the psychological developmental stages of a teenager kicked in. I realized only too fully that he was just a young normal teenager on that train!!! And so was the girl he was trying to make conversation, and their moms and dads were there with them!!! There was no way to pretend I did not realize what I discovered. It kept hitting me: this is not some script from a movie or TV miniseries on the Holocaust. No; as much as I wished it were. The reality of this horror hit me all at once, on so many different levels of consciousness: what an unbelievable horror it was!!! How could we treat human beings like this! I remember when the realization of the magnitude of this horror first hit me, like an instant reflex. I threw down the transcript I was holding as if it were a blazing hot poker. It kept hitting me over and over again that this is not a movie script or some kind of play – this really happened! It really happened! Oh, my God, how could this have happened!?!!!
My supervisor told me at the time that I was traumatized by the oral content. Qualitative research is an attempt to understand the complexity of emotions, the kinds of emotions, and the degree of intensity involved. Our emotions are what allow us to connect with other human beings. We identify with the non-verbal quality of emotions more immediately and strongly than with the words used to express them. The non-verbal qualities include tone of voice, eye contact, facial expression, body posture, and gestures, all of which express emotions. Emotions are why we can connect with people through time, across cultures, and individually. It is the expression of human emotions in the arts that makes some works of art timeless, because they continually speak to all people through the ages.
And when I heard what Pope Benedict XVI said about homosexuals and transgendered human beings at Christmas 2008, I felt that same trauma all over again. Because in some way, somehow, he was conveying in a non-verbal manner the horror of the Holocaust, in what appears to be a traumatized, trance-like, accepted social norm from that period of time dictating that some people just don’t count, aren’t important, and can be easily disposed of. And if you rock the boat, you could be next to be disposed of.
I truly have to believe that a person in his position would not be doing this consciously or intentionally. The horror of the Holocaust is like an atomic bomb with fallout so extensive that it spreads over a radius of more than 150 miles. The horror of the Holocaust began in 1933 and ended in 1945. The psychological fallout would have been far more extensive and more deadly, especially when it is not identified as such.
It hit me the way it did when I realized that the research I was doing about a Holocaust survivor, a man 68 years old telling his story, who was remembering what it was like to be on the train to AUSCHWITZ, from the perspective of a young teenage boy who just wanted to talk to a girl. It seemed like the same kind of horror, a tacit assumption that some people don't count and can be disposed of without remorse. Could it be that Benedict XVI is unconsciously repeating Hitler's crime against humanity by taking on a long-accepted social attitude from that period of time?
The question I asked myself was: what would it have been like for someone growing up gay during the Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933 -1945?
What would be the severity of the psychological effects on a boy who grew up to be gay in Germany during the time of Hitler’s NAZI PERSECUTION OF HOMOSEXUALS 1933 -1945? During the Nazi regime, homosexuals were publicly defamed and falsely accused for the major social problems of that time, which was done to incite massive public hatred and hostility directed against homosexuals. Homosexuals were used for medical experiments, physically mutilated, brutally tortured and exterminated.
Would this child, as an adult, in a severe dissociated state of mind from his own homosexual feelings (Harry Stack Sullivan MD, Dissociative Processes, Clinical Studies on Psychiatry (1956)), unconsciously perpetuate the terrifying horror of the insensitivity he had experienced growing up? If he found himself in a position of authority would he recreate the same social and political environment of violence and terror for homosexuals that he experienced, as a child who grew up to be gay, during the NAZI PERSECUTION OF HOMOSEXUALS?
I think in truth on a much deeper level I was frightened, really frightened, to hear Pope Benedict XVI’s Christmas remarks against homosexuals and transgendered human beings and even more frightened by the silence from the larger global community of human beings. What is so frightening is, even if there is agreement that one person does not matter or is not important, in truth then no one matters. Therefore, when I thought about your blog and what you did on October 5, 2008, I felt more reassured, I felt hope, and I felt comforted. NOW, isn’t that the true meaning of Christmas?
