Gay Marriage - Anthropology - Natural Law "LOVE NEVER FAILS"

Statement on Marriage and the Family
American Anthropological Association - 2004 Photo

Arlington, Virginia--The Executive Board of the American Anthropological Association, the world's largest organization of anthropologists, released the following statement on February 26, 2004 in response to President Bush's call for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage as a threat to civilization:

The results of more than a century of anthropological research on households, kinship relationships, and families, across cultures and through time, provide no support whatsoever for the view that either civilization or viable social orders depend upon marriage as an exclusively heterosexual institution. Rather, anthropological research supports the conclusion that a vast array of family types, including families built upon same-sex partnerships, can contribute to stable and humane societies.

The Executive Board of the American Anthropological Association strongly opposes a constitutional amendment limiting marriage to heterosexual couples.

Brief excerpt:

...Perhaps the most profound change of all, and one undoubtedly linked with the above transformations of kinship and the family, is a perceptible change in the cultural construction of kinship in the US. An earlier emphasis on kinship as based on biological connection (what David Schneider termed “shared biogenetic substance” in American Kinship, 1980), is giving way to a new conception of kinship as a relation based on personal choice and commitment (Linda Stone, Introduction, Contemporary Directions in Kinship, Kinship and Family, 2004). The US is in many respects culturally embracing a wider variety of family forms and an expanded construction of kinship through choice and self-definition as much as through biology.

It is within these new dimensions of family variation and choice as a basis of kinship that, I think, we can best view the movement for legalization of same-sex marriage. From an anthropological perspective that focuses on the whole of humanity, what same-sex couples seeking legal marriage in the US are trying to do is not to redefine marriage. They are seeking legal recognition in the US for doing what people around the world have always done, that is to construct marriage for themselves.

Linda S Stone is Professor of Anthropology at Washington State University. She is the author of Kinship and Gender: An Introduction and editor of New Directions in Anthropological Kinship.

Pope Benedict XVI

2004 - USA Presidential Elections

Kerry & Bush

Pope Benedict XVI on the Church's Role in Public Life
The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life - 11-14-07
Short excerpts:
Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion. General Principles
In June 2004, five months before the U.S. presidential election, Cardinal Ratzinger sent a letter to Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of Washington, D.C., and Bishop Wilton Gregory of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on the question of whether it is permissible to deny communion to Catholic politicians whose positions on abortion and other issues contradict church teachings.
Congregation for the Doctrine Of the Faith
Cardinal Ratzinger served as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which oversees Roman Catholic Church doctrine, prior to his appointment as pope. The following documents were issued by the Congregation during his tenure.
1. Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and in the World (July 31, 2004)
This letter speaks to the "active collaboration" between men and women in society, the family and the Church.
2. Considerations Regarding Proposals To Give Legal Recognition To Unions Between Homosexual Persons (July 31, 2003)
This document emphasizes the protection and promotion of marriage as the foundation of the family and the stability of society.
3. Doctrinal Note: The Participation of Catholics in Political Life (January 16, 2003) This Note is directed to the bishops of the Catholic Church and to "Catholic politicians and all lay members of the faithful called to participate in the political life of democratic societies." Photo

Vatican Instructs Legislators On
Gays Backing Marriages Called 'Immoral'
Washington Post, August 1, 2003
The Vatican fired a booming shot yesterday in the rapidly escalating political battle over gay marriage, issuing specific instructions for Catholic lawmakers to oppose any effort to give legal status to homosexual unions.
According to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith – the Vatican's agency for policing Roman Catholic orthodoxy - "the Catholic law-maker has a moral duty to express his opposition [to gay marriage] clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral."
… Both documents came from the Vatican bureau headed by the conservative Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger…

Vatican fights Gay Marriages – July 31, 2003
The Vatican has launched a global campaign against gay marriages, warning Catholic politicians that support of same-sex unions is "gravely immoral."
…the 12-page document by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said Thursday…
…It is the second time this year the Vatican has formally issued the instruction, and mirrors similar comments made by U.S. President George W. Bush Wednesday…

Bush's appeal to the Vatican – June 25, 2004
…When Bush rejected the Vatican's moral criticism of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq a year ago, he was criticized for not listening to the pope. Now, however, that Bush has solicited the Vatican's help on "culture of life" issues, especially the anti-gay marriage push, he's blasted for mixing religion with politics.
This perhaps goes to show that where one draws the line on church/state separation often has a lot to do with what one thinks of whatever the church, or the state, has to say.
… in a June 4 meeting with senior Vatican officials (not in his private encounter with John Paul II the same day), Bush, according to a Vatican source, said that "not all the American bishops are with me" on cultural issues. My sources said the president particularly had in mind a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman…

Holy warriors – April 25, 2005
Cardinal Ratzinger handed Bush the presidency by tipping the Catholic vote.
Can American democracy survive their shared medieval vision?
…He [Bush] pleaded with the Vatican to pressure the bishops to step up their activism against abortion and gay marriage in the states during the campaign season.
About a week later, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger sent a letter to the U.S. bishops, pronouncing that those Catholics who were pro-choice on abortion were committing a “grave sin” and must be denied Communion. He pointedly mentioned “the case of a Catholic politician consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws” — an obvious reference to John Kerry, the Democratic candidate and a Roman Catholic…
…In 2004 Bush increased his margin of Catholic support by 6 points from the 2000 election, rising from 46 to 52 percent. Without this shift, Kerry would have had a popular majority of a million votes...moved into Bush’s column on the votes of the Catholic “faithful.” Even with his atmospherics of terrorism and Sept. 11, Bush required the benediction of the Holy See as his saving grace. The key to his kingdom was turned by Cardinal Ratzinger…

Salvaging Democracy after Election 2004 – by  Douglas Kellner
…Likewise, conservative "pro-life" Catholic bishops wrote letters to their parishioners articulating anti-Kerry and pro-Bush positions. Thus, below the media radar, there was something like religious revivalism that turned out the Christian right for Bush. One of the shocking revelations that soon came out was that during the highly contested and close 2004 US presidential election, “then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger wrote a letter to U.S. bishops while the campaign was in progress, instructing them to deny Communion to any Catholic candidate unwilling to criminalize abortion. Ratzinger's letter did not win anything close to unanimous agreement, even among the American bishops, yet he succeeded in creating a public question about John Kerry's status as a Roman Catholic. The shift among Catholic voters in 2004 was small in absolute numbers — President Bush increased his support among Catholics by 6 points from 2000 to 2004 — yet, according to one analyst, it was large enough to turn the election in Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico. Arguably, then, Ratzinger won the election for Bush."

Paralleled 1981 - 2012
Gradual Decline of the Dignity of Human Beings

It is an interesting fact that Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s obsessive antigay crusade for the past 30 years (1981-2013) dehumanizing gay (LGBT) human beings promoted endlessly by his false propaganda was paralleled by the gradual decline of the dignity of human beings not only in the USA, but also globally, as the value and importance of making a profit increased. It started in USA in the 1980s with the dissemblance of work unions, and the beginning of the endless deregulations of laws protecting free market trade.

Pope Francis Accepts Gay Priests - 2013 - - & - - Benedict XVI Bans Gay Priests – 2005

Impending rules on gay priests create Catholic divide

When the Rev. Martin Kurylowicz came out to his Sparta parish eight years ago, he said he had struggled for years with his homosexuality.

The Catholic priest says the struggle would be made harder for many others if the Vatican issues new rules that reportedly would ban gays from becoming priests…

…"I sizzled when I read it," said Kurylowicz, 55. "It's very hurtful, is what it is. In this day and age, there's no reason for it. It sends a message that there's something wrong with gays."

Kurylowicz said he spoke out then to raise awareness of violence against gays and teach others homosexuality is not a choice but an inborn trait. Church leaders still don't understand that and contribute to gays' poor self-esteem, he said…

…"Kids as young as 4 or 5 know they're different," said Kurylowicz, a psychotherapist… "They grow up with this pervasive guilt, which sabotages their growth and motivation." The result is thousands of dollars in therapy to accept their natural orientation, he said, adding, "Does the Vatican want to take that on, like the tobacco industry had to take on for the damage it caused consumers?     What you cannot do is accept injustice,

YOU MUST MAKE THE INJUSTICE VISIBLE – BE PREPARED

Mahatma Gandhi

My name is Fr. Marty Kurylowicz, a Roman Catholic priest from the Diocese of Grand Rapids Michigan ordained June 16, 1979.

I am writing this letter to inform my family, friends, parishioners, colleagues, government officials, justices, attorneys, and others about the “adverse action” that was taken against me by the Vatican after I came out, as a gay Catholic priest for the protection of gay children in March of 1997.

It may have been a severe intimidation tactic to get me to leave the priesthood, which I refused to do. Regardless, the intent was malicious and made it clear that I was not wanted to remain in the Diocese nor would it be safe for me to do so.  Since, that time, I have been the target of vindictive attacks directed against my reputation aimed at ending my means to financially support myself. There is documented evidence that these types of character assassination tactics are associated with Cardinal Ratzinger’s investigation of Archbishop Hunthausen and as Benedict XVI used against Dino Boffo a catholic journalist and Vatican bank's ex-president, Tedeschi.  These attacks have been ongoing for the past 15 years and have ultimately led to my bankruptcy. The constant related distress eventually led me this past year to be hospitalized 3 times for bleeding stomach ulcers. (http://igitur-archive.library.uu.nl/dissertations/2003-0206-111237/c6.pdf

Now, 15 years later, among the other questionable charges being used to remove me from the priesthood, Benedict XVI is also charging me for “coming out” in 1997 and starting the Thalamus Center, an educational blog on early childhood psychological development.

Two months after I came out, Ratzinger, the Vatican’s official in charge, did not mention one word about my “coming out.”  In 1997, this type of brutality by the Vatican would have been completely unbelievable, but not today in 2013. In 1997, I came out for the protection and growth of gay children growing up. In addition, in 2012, I am making public the type of vindictive attacks that I have endured for the past 15 years by Ratzinger and now Benedict XVI to draw public attention to how those in the Church  attempting to speak out for the protection of children are then severely silenced. This also includes, though not limited to, those who threaten to expose the corruption in the Vatican. And to draw public attention to the fact that there are no USA laws to protect the USA citizens in the Church from this type illegal and life-threatening treatment by the Vatican, even when it is to protect the lives of all USA citizens.

It is of significant importance to research the facts of 1997 related to all those in the Church who publicly supported the science of early childhood psychological development regarding growing up gay.  Because this science was moving forward in the Church among the US Bishops, along with Pope John Paul’s group of scientists and theologians studying homosexuality, and including the New Ways Ministry’s co-founders that had the potential to permanently alter the Church’s teachings on homosexuality, like it did for Galileo. However, the evidence, like that of the child sexual abuse cover-ups, reveals that Ratzinger was the strong covert force in the Vatican working to prevent this from happening.

In March of 1997, I attended the New Ways Ministry National Symposium (Gay Catholic Educational Conference) that was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I learned that children as young as 4 and 5 years of age know that they are “different” not that they are gay.  It is only as adults do they identify this being “different” as being gay. However, the harmful influence of antigay social and religious norms -- in particular, for Catholics, the Vatican’s unsubstantiated antigay teachings -- are severe and last throughout a child’s lifetime, especially disrupting their ability to form long and lasting relationships. The harmful effects are not isolated only to these children who grow up to be gay, but also affect their families, siblings, friends and anyone whom they might consider special in their lives. They are a prescribed societal sentence of implicit isolation, which place at risk of suicide so many innocent adolescents and young adults. They stifle an enormous amount of human potential in the world that otherwise could be put to use for finding cures for diseases, offering better ways of maintaining peace among people and improving the quality of life for everyone in the world (2010 USA letter)... LOVE NEVER FAILS - Gay Couples Kissing in Rome attacked by Vatican | Pope Francis Condemns Narcissistic Leprosy “Vatican-centric view” 10/5/13 (Revised - 10/15/13) Photo

"It is a sin to tell a lie

It would be interesting to wonder what life would have been like had Ratzinger/Benedict XVI used all the time, money and energy that he spent on his obsessive global unsubstantiated antigay crusade for the past 32 years and instead spent it all on teaching a solid truth that has never been disputed - that "it is a sin to tell a lie." He would instead had an anti-lying crusade for 30 years, never saying a word against gay people. Well, of course, if he had to tell the truth, he could then never have said a word against gay people. If more people were promoted to tell the truth, how would the world possibly have changed?

(1) Would there have been a "government shut down?"

(2) Would we have gone to war under false pretenses?  Would 9/11 even ever have happened in the USA?

(3) Would there have been the global devaluing of human beings over profits?

(4) Would there have been the endless problems with the "rising cost of Health Care" that left millions of people uninsured in the USA? Would Obama Care even have been necessary? Would there be more trees standing because there would be much less paperwork needed?

(5) Would we have always been in a never ending recession for the past 30 years?

(6) Would the price of gasoline keep rising?

(7) Would we still be dependent on oil?

(8) Would we have found a cure for cancer? Would there be a lot less stress in the world?

(9) Would there be a problem of human trafficking?

(10) Would there have been the enormous number of child sexual abuse cover-ups?

(11) The Vatican's unsubstantiated antigay teachings would have been renounced decades ago.

(12)  Would there have been a lot less violence in the world and more people in love?

Vatican reportedly threatens legal action after artist photographs gay couples kissing inside churches -9/29/13

Spanish artist Gonzalo Orquin created a photo series featuring images of couples in love—both gay and straight—kissing inside churches in Rome. The Vatican reportedly sent a letter to Orquin’s gallery, threatening to fight back if the photos were put on public display...

“I am a Catholic. I believe in God deeply,” Orquin told The News in an email. “I think if you look closely at my pictures no one can find blasphemy or sacrilege. A kiss is a gesture of love, of tenderness between human beings.”

The photo series was part of a larger exhibition that focused on the theme of marriage. Orquin said he created a large-scale painting representing the wedding night. He also constructed an installation about the memory of marriage in the past, using hundreds of vintage pictures, sounds, and video. But the last part of the work was the most controversial...

Gay Conversion | Religious Conversion - Transforms The Damned Into The Saved | COVERING - Kenji Yoshino – 2002 - The Yale Law Journal
Excerpts:
A. Gay Conversion

…What does it mean to convert? Generally defined as a “ [c]hange in character [or] nature,” 37 conversion encompasses mundane, value-neutral, and reversible transactions such as changes of measure or currency. Yet as the above account of electroshock therapy suggests, this general definition may fail to capture what conversion denotes for human identities. In such cases, I believe conversion often has a more specific meaning inflected by the instance of religious conversion—“ [t]he turning of sinners to God; a spiritual change from sinfulness, ungodliness, or worldliness to love of God and pursuit of holiness.” 38 Conversion in this formulation is not a mundane event, but a sacred one; not a value-neutral event, but one that transforms the damned into the saved; and not a reversible event, but in theory a unique occurrence.

Under such an account, human conversion differs profoundly from either passing or covering. Passing and covering are both perceived to be compromise formations in which the underlying identity is ostensibly preserved, modified only for popular consumption. In contrast, conversion is thought to be a more complete embrace or surrender. It is believed to change not only the expression of an identity, but the underlying substance of it.39

In this discussion, I describe the history of attempts to convert homosexuality into heterosexuality in the nonlegal field of mental health, as well as in the legal field. In both contexts, I document the same trend…

What you cannot do is accept injustice.
From Hitler – or anyone.
You must make the injustice visible
– be prepared to die like a

Kids Are Being Hurt!!!

“Someday, maybe, there will exist a well-informed, well considered and yet fervent public conviction that
the most deadly of all
possible sins
is the mutilation of
a child’s spirit.”

…whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.Matthew 18:6

Important note: No disrespect meant to Pope Benedict XVI or the hierarchy, the one and only concern is the safety and well-being of children.
